Chapter 5

KENNA 

My heart was beating way too fast and my legs felt too heavy for my body weight, I was dragging myself to move closer to the magnificent building in front of me.

“I have to do this … I don’t have any choice!” I closed my eyes and reminded myself, breathing heavily to calm myself down.

Looking around the inner building with awe and amazement while some passerby fixed their gaze on me like I had lost my mind, I wouldn’t blame them because I would have thought the same if I was someone else.

“Ma’am welcome to our cooperation, please what can we do for you?” a young lady with so much makeup walked toward me to ask, the “please” in her sentence felt weird because she was gnawing at me and wasn't smiling. Instead, she had this annoyed look.

I realised at once that I had been standing in one place for over ten minutes. I shook my head at her and cleared my throat. 

“Uhmmmm, I came … Can I? Hmmm” my eyes were wide open In fear. I realized that I couldn’t breathe properly as tension and dread gripped me, so many questions were running around in my head.

“You will have to take your leave now, you look suspicious and the securities are going to kick you out if you try to…

“Hey! Who do we have here!” It wasn’t a question and I recognized the friendly and lively voice, my ears raised in relief at once, I couldn’t hide my excitement, and I sighed loudly in relief as well.

“My goodness, you work here too?” I didn’t know how to start our conversation, of course, he’s Sean's best friend and business partner!  knowing fully well that he’s my only key to seeing Sean right away, I walked briskly toward him with a wide smile…

“Of course, I’m Sean’s right-hand man and he can’t breathe without me!” He joked again, forcing me to burst into a burst of short laughter even though it was the last thing I wanted to do. My smile increased as I remembered how my brian was very friendly and nice to me the first night we met.

“I need to see your friend, please! it’s urgent …. Please” I added the last sentence when I noticed how the woman standing in front of me kept staring at me like I had grown two horns.

“You can go back to your table Alice, she’s coming with me!” He ordered the chubby and rude woman who bowed quickly and walked away from us but she did it backwards before finally facing her front.

She turned around to stare right into my eyes and I saw the disgust and anger there, her look was so creepy and intense, that it had my skin crawling. 

“What’s with Sean’s workers and their obsessions with him?” I asked Brian who was already leading me to another wing of the enormous and high ceiling building.

“We Will use this elevator here to meet with Sean before he leaves for his meeting by four pm and that’s in” he checked his wristwatch, “in five minutes… oh and yes they are all obsessed with him even though he doesn’t give a damn about them” Brian responded to my question.

He smiled sweetly at me and took my hand as soon as he realized that I was scared of lifts.

At that moment I wished that he was the one I had a one-night stand with, “you are so kind and sweet, thank you but I think I should go back, your friend will tear me apart, we all know how crazy he can be” I stuttered.

“You can’t get here now and run away, you wouldn’t be here if it isn’t important, what’s the issue? Can you share with me?” he asked me, pressing the button to Sean's office, I guess.

 

“I’m pregnant… for Sean '' I blurted out, didn’t try to cajole or sweetmouth the problem, it is what it is and I need to let it out. Maybe I would be able to do the same in Sean's presence.

“Are you kidding me now? wow! This is unbelievable Kenna, it’s good news and I can't wait to see the look on my man’s face!” The look of genuine excitement for me mixed with the fact that he remembers my name warms my heart greatly. 

But my smile and excitement soon waned away as we stepped into Sean’s office, I didn’t know why I was so angry that another woman was practically almost naked and strapped on his legs.

 

“Yo man, your meeting with the shareholder managers is in about three minutes and you are still here with your secretary, doing whatever!” Brian looked disgusted and flushed too but he seemed to be used to the occurrence.

“I won’t be attending the meeting, it’s cancelled… Anthony was moving some strings to use against me so I changed the date … he won’t be aware, and yes! There’s a mole in my company, someone is …'' he stopped talking at once and finally stood up slowly from his chair.

The lady stood up slowly along with him with a smile on her face, she didn’t look ashamed or pissed that we were standing right there in Sean's office and she was practically almost naked.

“Who’s this and what is she doing in my office, you don’t work here right?” He shot the question at me and Brian used that moment to step away from my vision to allow me to talk directly to Sean.

“Coming here is a big mistake as I can see but I need you to know this fact, I’m carrying your child, I’m two months pregnant and I..” just like I feared I couldn’t stand firm and express myself, I bursts into tears and looked down at my trembling feet, choking on my words.

Of Course, I was scared of facing the multi-billionaire and arrogant man but seeing how he was scowling and looking at me when I told him about the baby softened my little determination at once.

“Brian why did you ring in a crazy woman to my office and you, what are you doing here? Get out!” He yelled at the woman who he was holding a few minutes ago, she glared at me and pranced out of his office at once.

“Listen to her first Sean, you can’t remember her? The waitress in the mini branch bar, you took her to your hotel room, strike a cord?” Brian was trying so much to help me, I looked up at him and grinned sadly.

 

“He might not believe me but I’m ready to do any test, I don’t want your money but you have to know about it” I summoned the courage to tell him.

“Brian! I don’t know if you are a friend or an enemy. How many women have tried to lie their way into my life and lie against me impregnating them?  You know too well that they all want my money and fame, they are nothing but a bunch of thieves!” He roared at Brian.

But I know he was talking to me, “We don’t need you in our life, I just came to tell you, that’s all!” I didn’t know where the strength and courage came from, so I shot at him and turned around to face the exit door.

“Get out of my office you whore… you can open your leg for a stranger but you are angry when that same stranger calls you a thief, why did you sleep with me that night if you had no ulterior motion” he screamed at me.

At that moment I felt like crumbling onto the floor and just dying, the insult was too much, the one thing I feared was happening,  I told Nikki but she insisted on me coming here, to humiliate myself.  

“ Kenna please I’m sorry on his behalf, he believes that all the women in the world are after his money, and his ex-girlfriend has destroyed his belief in love and family, I will call you … please” Brian was by my side at once, holding me up from losing my balance.

“Just get her out of here! Now! He yelled from across the room, at that moment I felt like a million knives cutting me all over my body.
