Years ago, Mea's departure brought a sense of relief, even though Benjamin often felt her absence. Still, that feeling was somewhat alleviated because they remained connected through phone calls and messages.

Being childhood friends had made Benjamin and Mea’s relationship resemble that of siblings. Neighbors frequently asked Benjamin about Mea’s well-being even after she moved away, as though they instinctively knew the two would always stay in touch.

Hot summer days used to be spent by Benjamin and Mea at one of their houses, enjoying ice cream together. After Mea left, Benjamin faced summer days alone in his home. Jenna repeatedly invited him to join her and her siblings at the backyard pool to cool off, but Benjamin stayed in his room all morning, engrossed in messaging Mea via his computer.

They endlessly discussed Mea’s new neighborhood: the bakery she mentioned for the thirtieth time, the routes around her new home that became a recurring topic after school, and even her lunch

Bonita had been cycling around the city for over three hours using a borrowed bicycle from one of Edith’s employees, where Edith’s butcher and fish shop was located. At the time, Edith was busy at her shop, hosting two marketing representatives from a major company who were pitching a business collaboration.Bonita explored various bookstores, bakeries, ice cream parlors, and clothing shops. Her stomach was full from all the snacks she indulged in, and her heart felt slightly lightened. It had been a long time since she had wandered alone, though it felt odd. This would have been much more enjoyable if she were with Velica.Sitting at a countryside-themed café, Bonita ordered a cup of coffee and started reading a newly purchased book. The sunlight streaming through the nearby window illuminated her, making her stand out. Several men attempted to strike up conversations, but she politely dismissed them with a friendly smile and a few courteous words.Just as she turned the page, her ey
