Chapter 28 In love with her

Alexander's POV

"Father, I'm not in the mood for this. Tell me where Mia is right now!" I thundered, glaring at him. Can't he see how mad I am?

"So, you do care for her?" He shook his head, looking at me in disappointment - a look I'm so used to seeing on his face whenever we speak.

"Just so you know, I don't know where this Mia girl is, and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you." I smirked, shaking my head at his calmness.

"Father..." Or could it be that Victoria did this on her own?

"Next time, before you come here all fired up to make accusations, make sure you know for sure who you're accusing and have evidence. I thought I taught you better, but you disappoint me every time. Maybe your half-brother would do better."

My lips hooked up in a sinister smirk. "You say that every time, yet you've never brought that brother of mine back into the family, have you?" I said, provoking him.

He gave me one of his calm smiles that had been on his face since I stepped into the office. "The way you're acting now, it won't be long before I do bring him back."

You know what... I don't care! I don't give a shit about your fucking money or legacy, I wanted to shout back at him, but held it in. It wasn't time yet. I'll reveal everything the day he brings George back. I had a bigger problem on my hands right now - finding Mia.

"Do as you please, and if I find out that you or your precious daughter Victoria had a hand in Mia's disappearance... You won't like what's going to happen." I threatened before walking out of the office, slamming the door shut.

What was I going to do now? The old man already denied doing anything to Mia, and it wasn't in his nature to lie. If he really did it, he would've even bragged about it to me before I asked. What the hell happened to Mia!

I took the elevator back down to the garage and drove my car out, heading back to the mansion. Maybe Mia just went out? Yeah, so early in the morning... where did she go? My inner mind answered me sarcastically.

My mind went back to Lilly. The girl would be coming back home today, and she would definitely ask about Mia's whereabouts if she wasn't back by then. She and Mia had formed such a bond that she would be devastated if she didn't find her.

I drove into the house, and my eyes widened when I saw Lilly running out to greet me. No... Gosh, why did I just think about her? I got down from the car and forced a smile to my cheeks.

"Baby..." I caught her and swung her around before letting her down. "How are your grandparents?" I asked, holding her hands and leading her inside.

"It was fine, they were fun. But I'm more excited about starting school again tomorrow." She replied, and I raised a brow. She was excited to go to school? This was a first. Lilly never liked going to school; some of her past nannies, like Mia, had confessed that they'd seen her coming back from school in tears. But anytime I asked why, she always dismissed the topic. I could feel that it was because she was being bullied, but Lilly just refused to say anything about it, so I couldn't just upwardly confront the school about it. But now she was excited? About school?

Lilly raised her head to look at me; she must have felt me looking at her. "Why are you looking at me like that? Mia told me of a few tricks I could try on my classmates." She said, rolling her eyes. Mia? She did this? She made Lilly like school? How? When? A lot of questions popped into my head as I watched my little girl.

"Talking about Mia, where is she?" She asked, her voice suddenly sharp, snapping me out of my trance.

"My... I haven't seen her since I came back." My heart skipped a beat. How was I going to reveal to her that I had no idea where Mia was?

"Dad?" She called out gently, tugging my hand.

"Huh?"

"Where's Mia?"

"Well... I don't know."

She tilted her head to the side, her eyebrows crunched in confusion. "What do you mean you don't know? Is she not in this house?" Her breathing became labored as she shouted.

"Alice!!"

"Yes..." Alice ran towards us, bowing her head down.

"Where's Mia?" She questioned again, this time her voice breaking.

"I... I don't know."

"How can you say you don't know? She's your friend, isn't she! You have to know where she is" Lilly shouted as she climbed up the stairs rushing to Mia's room while yelling her name

"Mia! Mia!!"

I sighed following her with Alice right behind me.

"Lilly, sweetie calm down". I said trying to calm her down, but she was behold consolation. She everywhere in the room calling out Mia's name until she became exhausted and collapsed on Mia's bed.

I walked up to her but before I could reach her she was already on the ground searching under the bed.

"Lilly stop it. Alice and I had searched this entire room, the whole house in fact, she's not here". I said solely trying to get her up from the floor.

" Wait a second, I can see something ". Lilly exclaimed coming out from under the bed. It was a letter.

From Mia, it read at the back.

I looked at it warily, what is this?

Lilly gestured for me to open it slowly tugging on my shirt, so I did, carefully unwrapping the envelope. It was a letter, addressed to Lilly.

"Dear Lilly..." I read inwardly.

"I'm addressing this letter to you because I can bet you're the one who found it since I hid it under the bed.

I'm leaving, well, by the time you'll be reading this, I'm already gone. It's not because of you, trust me. You are the most amazing, sweet (sometimes) and cutest kid I know, and I've grown to love you. But I just have to leave.

I can't stay under your father's roof forever. I owe him a lot of money, and I feel like a captive in this house, so I've decided, well, I decided to run away.

Alexander, if you're reading this, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for coming into your life, I'm sorry that you can't ever be with a person like me. Don't try to look for me, because I promise you won't find me, not like you would anyways.

PS: In case you thought Victoria kidnapped me or anything, she didn't. Actually, she can't, not because I don't think she would try it, the truth is I won't put that past her, but because I won't let myself get kidnapped for the second time, I just left. I hope we never see each other again, (not you, Lilly, only your father).

Your nanny, slash maid, slash slave, slash your friend

Mia."

The letter slowly fell out of my hand after I was done reading it.

No no no... She heard me. She left because she heard what I told Victoria about never wanting to be with someone like her. Why didn't she just ask me? This was all a misunderstanding!

Lilly eyes were fixed on me, her face etched with worry and fear "Daddy, what did it say?" She asked, her voice trembling.

I was still in a daze from what I just read so I couldn't answer her, then she picked up the letter and red it aloud.

"What! Daddy!" Tears began slipping from her eyes as she faced me. "She left because of you, Mia left because of you!" She yelled at me, her small hands hitting me as hard as she could. "Why... The only person who truly cared for me, you chased that person away!"

Lilly shouted before running away. "Lilly!" I yelled after her, but the loud sound of a door being shut was my only answer.

I glanced at the letter Mia wrote. Lilly was right, she left because of me. The one person my heart began to open for, and I fell in love with - yes, I was in love with her, I agree to that fact now... But she was gone, far from my reach.

I felt a soft liquid trickling down my face, and I raised my hands to touch it. Water? No, tears. I was crying?
