Lucy

The bird’s feathers ruffled, and then, with a triumphant flutter, it stretched its wings and sat up its side. It got to its feet and let out a soft song before taking to the air. Hito’s stern expression softened into a smile as he nodded. Duke leaned forward on the table, wavering on his feet. His chest was heaving from exertion. I wanted to clap.

Hito turned to me with a wry smile. “This would be the time to clap.”

I flushed, but I clapped anyway as the bird continued to fly circles around Duke. “You did well,” Hito said.“I did not expect you to incorporate any alchemy. You must have been practicing.”

Duke flushed.“A-A little”

He poked him in the side.“And that is why Blue is so upset with you. Sit, rest, eat something with your cheerleader. I will get you a potion, but you will still have to deal with Blue’s wrath.”

Duke winced and sank into the seat.

Hito pressed a hand to his shoulder. “For what it is worth, you have the talent, but you must allow yourself the time to recov

LucyWe walked in silence for a little while. The air felt alive with something I couldn’t name. Being this close to David was doing crazy things to my insides. We reached the dining room and found only Duke there and no one else.“Blue?” David asked. She poked her head out of another doorway. “You said you wanted to cook tonight.”He huffed. “I forgot, but Lucy--”“It’s okay,” I said quickly. “I can—”“Sounds like you have a culinary audience,” Blue said and darted away.David shook his head and looked at me with an apologetic smile before looking back at Blue. “Blue, you can’t just—”“Ready?” Amos asked, coming up behind us. “Yep,” Duke said, getting up from the table with a grin. Hito, who had just entered the room, raised an eyebrow as if curious about the sudden change in atmosphere.“And where are you all going?” David asked.“Out,” Blue said, coming back with a purse on her arm. “Kitchen’s all yours.”“Wait a second—““Let’s go,” Hito said. "We have to expand your palette

LucyI thought I would hesitated to answer, but I didn’t. "I think I'd like to stay," I said, looking directly at David. "If that's okay with you."David smiled, his gaze warm and relieved. "Of course, Lucy. Whatever you're comfortable with. How about a tour?"“Sounds great.”He offered me his hand, and I took it, twining our fingers together nervously. His eyes grew a little brighter as he led me out of the kitchen and turned off the lights. He led me down the corridor of the silent Estate. Hunter flew overhead, roosting high up in one of the long corridors for the night. Soon, we headed outside. The night wind greeted us as he led me away from the house. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a silvery glow over the Blood Moon Estate gardens. David and I strolled through the winding pathways, surrounded by the scent of blooming flowers and the soft rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze. It was late into the night, yet the serenity of the gardens was comforting.“Roses?” I asked.

DavidThe sun's warm rays filtered through the car window, casting a golden hue over everything as Amos navigated through the bustling streets of Blood Moon City. I couldn't help but smile to myself, a contentedness settling over me that was as soothing as the gentle breeze ruffling my hair. It was a feeling that had become increasingly familiar ever since Lucy had really stepped back into my life.As the car hummed along, my thoughts drifted, weaving between the present and the future. The Crescent Moon Festival was in a few weeks, and the excitement in the air was palpable. A sense of anticipation mingled with the energy of all the supernatural cities and even the mundane task at hand – getting fitted for tuxedos – couldn't dampen my spirits.Last night, I had nearly kissed Lucy. No. Last night, Lucy had wanted me to kiss her. I couldn’t even pay attention to whatever Trent, Duke, and Amos were chatting about as I thought about the way she had looked up at me. I was a little frust

LucyJessie and anyone she told about me coming back with David’s jacket hadn’t stopped hounding me. I had never been so grateful to be living at Stacy’s. I still wasn’t sure what to do with the jacket, and if I considered keeping it long-term, I tried not to be too embarrassed about it. Today was another combat training class. The training room was alive with the sound of clashing staves and the rhythmic thud of footfalls on the polished floor. Duke and I had gotten better. He wasn’t struggling as much, and I could actually channel my magic into the staff. We worked slowly as we were both struggling with the task. “I guess growing roses really helped,” Duke said, grinning at me. “Maybe I should grow a bush or two.”I scowled at him. “Stick practicing your scales. You’ll need it for the high notes.”He laughed. The sparring session came to an end, leaving me drained. Duke and I exchanged a high-five, grinning like we had just conquered the world. Lucian called a halt to practice.

Lucy Someone gasped beside me. “No way.” Lucian hummed. “Impressive.”“What?”“Casting a restraint on a shifter to keep them from shifting is a very hard piece of magic,” Lucian said. “He’s… definitely been practicing.”Duke laughed. “When would he have the time? I swear he barely sleeps.”He huffed. “The more I think about it, the more irritated I am about it. No one nags him when he doesn’t sleep.”I watched as the rest of his opponents struggled to keep up, their defenses slowly chipping away under his relentless assault. As the battle raged on, I could almost see the way his magic changed. It changed colors as he used different attacks and strategies. He was focused, his concentration unwavering as he anticipated his opponents' moves and countered with his own. With a final, well-placed strike, David disarmed the last of his opponents, sending their staff flying through the barrier and clattering to the ground. The others groaned, still struggling to get up after being beaten d

LucyWe rode together back to the White Moon Pack house. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the Hecate City. Lucian, Duke and I climbed out of the car. David had been dozing off on the ride. “Still haven’t returned the jacket, hm?” Lucian asked as we headed inside. “Leave me alone!”Duke and Lucian laughed as we entered. The scents of the Pack House enveloped me. It had become almost a second home for me, a place of belonging and family. Duke walked beside me, his steps confident and easy. Lucian had said that he had an announcement to make, so everyone was there. As we entered the Pack House, the hum of conversations and laughter filled the air. It was heartwarming to see familiar faces. I spotted Jessie across the room, engaged in a lively conversation with a few others. We made our way over to Jessie, who turned towards us with a bright smile. "Lucy, Duke, you made it! You two look terrible. Magic training?"I nodded. “We got to watch a le

LucyThe sun was just beginning its ascent as I joined the group of supernaturals gathered at the edge of the woods. The air was crisp and carried the promise of a new day. We were here for a Habitat Restoration event organized by Helping Hands. I wasn’t sure what sort of habitat we were going to be working on, but I was kind of excited. Duke was beside me, his expression bright as he released Hunter into the sky. It circled overhead, cawing happily. "Don’t go too far,” Duke said, looking up at him. “And don’t pick up anything shiny.”I grinned at the magpie's antics, watching as it darted and swooped through the air. "He's quite the show-off, isn't he?"Duke chuckled. "He likes to be the center of attention."The leaders of the event started to divide us up for the minor work. As we began our work, I focused on the task at hand. I could feel the energy of the earth beneath my fingers as I planted saplings and pulled the tangled brush apart. Throughout the morning, we worked togeth

DavidNext time, I would just take Lucy to a fairy grove, just the two of us. To be fair, it wasn’t Amelia’s fault she had terrible timing. And it wasn’t the organizer’s fault for sending her with me, but none of that made it any better. When I got back, the mood had gone, and I hadn’t known what to say to Lucy about Amelia. Lucy looked uncomfortable, so I hadn’t brought it up yet. It definitely ruined the rest of the trip. I couldn’t decide if I should be upset about it or relieved that I didn’t cross a line that neither of us was ready to cross yet. That evening, after I’d returned to the Blood Moon Estate, I descended the hidden staircase to the secret room. I solved the puzzle and entered the room, noting that the air inside was colder than before. The crystal necklace glinted in the darkness, emanating an otherworldly glow that seemed to beckon me forward and push me away. I set my magical analysis kit underneath the single torch, grabbed the necklace, and sat down. The kit was

LucyThe morning sun, a mischievous wink through the blinds, painted golden stripes across our bed. I snuggled deeper into the warmth of David's embrace, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest a soothing lullaby. He slipped his hand across my lower back. The warmth of his bare skin against mine set a spark of pleasure through me. He rumbled low and content into my hair. “Wake up,” David rumbled. He kissed my head and twined a curl around his finger. “We have things to do.”“You shouldn’t have kept me up all night.”He chuckled. “You didn’t say that last night.”I nudged him. He dipped his head to nip my lips. “You know, if it’s too much, you can always tell me to slow down.”He’d been saying that for five years now, and I never found a reason to tell him to. He knew that. His eyes flickered between colors. I nipped his lower lip. “Give me a reason.”He smirked and rolled me onto my back. “To slow down or…”“To get up,” I said as he kissed

LucyI sat on the cold stone, watching her, but she didn’t move another muscle. I didn’t know how long it had been, but it didn’t matter. The spectral glow around her was starting to dim, and my mind was just too stressed to do too much thinking. The light of the ritual, the spell I’d used, the blood on my hands all flashed through my mind, and part of me wondered if it was all just a dream. I looked down at the stained and ruined gown. The armor was as pristine as ever, but most of the embroidered roses were torn or stained. This dress would never be white again, let alone whole. I flicked a piece of the long, gossamer fabric and shook my head. I really liked this dress.“Lucy!”I turned my head toward the sound of David’s voice, wrung out and relieved to hear him. He was rushing through the air towards me. He dropped down a few feet from me, looking so worried I could cry.I smiled at him as he dropped to his knees beside me and threw his arms around me,

LucyI sailed through the air, landing with a jarring thud within the ritual circle. With a trembling hand, I pushed myself up, my senses on high alert. A figure, cloaked in darkness, appeared in front of me. My blood ran cold. Selene."Well, well, Lucy," her voice, honeyed yet laced with venom, slithered into the darkness. "Thank you ever so much for making this easy at last.”I grit my teeth. I wouldn't go down without a fight. Straightening my shoulders, I met her gaze, my voice shaking but resolute. "You underestimate me.” “No, Lucy,” her voice dropped, and a cruel smile twisted her lips. "You underestimate me.” The chanting grew louder around me. I lunged for the necklace, my fingers grazing its cold surface before Selene snatched it away, a triumphant gleam in her eyes. But that touch, fleeting as it was, ignited something. I felt her pushing at my mind. I felt her shoving me back until I could see the forest from before, and we were fighting in a ci

MattMy vision pulsed and flickered, a strobe light of pain blurring the edges of reality. Tony rained blows down on me, slashing with claws. Each hit chipped away at my resolve and my control, leaving behind a raw desperation to end this quickly. My armor protected me from most of the damage, but still. He was always the stronger of the two of us. I thought it was just because he was the older of the two of us, but this was different. I thought for sure he was going to bite off my head. Then, a flash of golden light arced through the air, and a spear lanced past my shoulder, catching Tony square in the chest. I turned back to see Ginevra hovering in the air. Her golden dress glowed as she passed me with a glowing winge spreading from her back. What the absolute fuck?Tony staggered, falling to the ground, and Dad darted forward, encasing Tony in a shimmering web of light. The wave turned to chains. He thrashed and howled, straining against the magical bonds, but t

LucyPeter's breath hitched, rasping, and shallow, then deepened into a cough that wracked his battered body. His eyelids fluttered, eyelids so pale they were almost luminous in the dim torchlight. He struggled to get up, leaning on his Spear and on Michelle. The light pulsing through the Spear rippled over his skin. He let out a soft sigh and stumbled a little. “Peter?”“I... It’s gone.”“What?” Michelle gasped as his hair started to change, losing the gray color and growing dark. His face turned younger until I was sure that he was all of twenty-something. He grew a bit taller, too, bigger until his shirt strained against his chest and his buttons popped. He flushed. “Well… that’s not…” He cleared his throat as Michelle smiled up at him. “So this is what you looked like in your youth?”He scoffed. “I’m much younger than you think.”He grunted, pressing a hand to his side. “Wish the Spear would heal the wound, though.”I winced. “Sorry… it’s a

PeterMy feet pounded a frantic rhythm against the uneven earth, branches whipping at my face, thorns tearing at my clothes. How long had I been running? How much further did I have to go? I didn’t know, and it didn’t matter so long as I got there. My lungs burned, legs screaming in protest, but still I ran. The trail of blood behind me and the patchwork of wounds across my body, chunks of missing and regrowing flesh, weren’t my concern right now. The creature—the wolf was after me, and unlike before, it didn’t seem willing to back off or slow down. It was going to kill me, and what happened after that was anyone’s guess. Behind me, the guttural snarl of the wolf echoed through the trees. Too close to be comfortable. Too close to make sense. This was too much like that dream, but worse. So much worse. The sky was a kaleidoscope of images I could barely make out. They flashed in the sky and in my vision, making it hard to see. I saw Lucy. I saw Michelle. The long

Peter—”“He’s possessed,” I said. “Just keep running for now!”I saw my Allison up ahead, leading me down another tunnel. Behind us, I heard Peter's guttural snarls, the rhythmic thud of his feet echoed eerily in the confined space. We had to lose him and the other one quickly, but we didn’t seem to be putting enough distance between us. Panic coiled in my gut, urging me to run faster and push my body beyond its limits. Michelle kept up relatively well. We twisted and turned, navigating the treacherous path by torchlight and the spectral murmurs of White Moon's fallen. But the passage seemed to twist back on itself. When we were back at the forked path, the faint light that had been illuminating the tunnel went out, plunging us into darkness.Michelle shuddered. She drew closer to me and tightened her grip on m

LucyI was back in that house with that couple that adopted me. I felt the floorboards creaking as I went downstairs. I saw the men in suits. I shrieked, turning. Not again. I couldn’t be back here. Where was David? How had I gotten back here? I looked down. I wasn’t… wearing the dress or the armor. I had no daggers. My hair was just as uncombed and dry as it had been then. When I looked in the mirror, the skinny young woman who had barely had anything more than ramen and school lunch stared back at me. My stomach lurched. The door opened, and I turned to run, knowing what was about to happen. I dug my heels in as dark shadows pulled me towards the door. I felt myself being lifted onto someone’s shoulders. I fought and kicked, but all my training and all my strength were gone. I saw the calendar on the wall, but the date was different. It wasn’t my birthday. It was the day of the Crescent Moon Festival. I screamed, grabbing anything I could manage. Then, Sele

Then, all hell broke loose. The shimmering barrier around the Ball faltered, rippling like a pond, before collapsing entirely. Hunters poured into the arena, their snarls blending with everyone's shocked gasps. “Defensive measures, now!” I yelled, my voice carrying over the sound of the attack. A group of dragon shifters took to the sky as my blade clashed with the first hunter. How had they gotten through the barrier? I saw a flicker of a ghost and growled. “Selene!” I shoved the hunter back, slicing through him before sending out a shockwave of air. She’d been behind this, and maybe she’d been planning this for years, using the werewolf virus to spy on the preparations. It would make sense to try and get rid of me. I was the direct descendant of Fenris. More than that, it was their movements. Each and every one of them moved e
