I was putting on my jacket when I heard her room door open. Perfunctorily, Maxine walked over to the kitchen to drink water. She didn't notice that I was standing. I stood there and put on my jacket, waiting for her to notice me.

"You better not drop that glass," I said, my voice thick from unuse.

Maxine yelped, jumping as she turned. She held on tightly to the glass cup this time. "You're up!" She said, putting the cup down on the kitchen island and walking towards me. "How do you feel?"

I put a hand up to stop her advances. I know that she had saved me but this level of affection between the two of us was unnecessary. She was only here to satisfy my needs.

"Where are Varis and Kris?" She looked like she was hurt by my behaviour but I didn't care. She looked at the time on the clock.

"They're supposed to be here any moment from now." She replied standing away from me. "Master." She added.
