IN A BLINK of an eye, the most beautiful day in my life had become the most tragic one. The guests would remember this as the bloodiest wedding in history. Most of the knights who had sworn allegiance to my family were now on Uncle Titus’ side as they killed our guards who tried to protect us.

I screamed when their blood splashed onto my wedding dress.

“What is the meaning of this?” Dad hollered as he exposed his claws.

Uncle Fredrick, one of the Council members, firmly announced, “Traitor Adam Valenciaga, your status and all of your power as a member of the royal family are hereby revoked from this moment on for committing a treason. You colluded with the Vampires to secure your daughter’s position as the crown princess.”

Dad looked dumbfounded as he glanced at his best friend. “It was you who did that and now you are trying to put the blame on me? And the Council believed you just like that? Where are your proofs that it was me?” he screeched at Uncle Fredrick. “Show me!”

“As punishment, you and your clan shall be beheaded three full moons from now in front of all the wolf packs to serve as a lesson they would never forget,” Uncle Fredrick continued to announce as if he heard nothing. “If you or any of your family members resist the arrest tonight, we will be forced to execute the punishment as soon as possible.”

Hope rose in my chest when I finally saw Nicole, my best friend and Uncle Titus’ only child. She said she was too sick to attend the wedding that’s why at the last minute, we had to change the maid-of-honor, but to my surprise, she seemed okay now. She was even wearing the same gown as mine. The only difference was that hers was red.

Still, I tried to hold her hand. “Nicole, this is a misunderstanding. You know my father. He would never do what your father is accusing him of-“

I didn’t get to finish what I wanted to say when she suddenly slapped me. And since I was not expecting it, I lost my balance and fell on the carpet. Her claws scratched my cheek and because I was not a normal wolf, the scratches did not heal easily.

“Nicole?” I asked, flabbergasted, as I held my cheek that had become numb from the impact of her slap.

We were the best of friends since we were toddlers. Dad even fondly called us twins because we were always glued to each other. We were bombarded by criticisms our whole lives.

Uncle Titus’ humble beginning was an open secret. His father was a rogue and his mother was a human. When his parents died, Grandpa decided to adopt him and raise him like his own that’s why despite his bloodline, Dad still treated him as an older brother.

When Grandpa wanted to make Uncle Titus into a Valenciaga, the Council protested. That was our only disappointment although his surname had never become an issue to us. Nicole grew up being judged by the nobles as the daughter of a lowborn while I grew up being compared to her. Many of the citizens were saying that my best friend was better suited as the crown princess because unlike me, she could shift. Unlike me, she could do many great things that I could only dream of doing.

Nicole was a gray wolf. In our kingdom, female gray wolves were rare. Gray indicate strength that’s why several male betas sought for her hand in marriage although she refused them all.

Nicole was praised for the color of her fur and I was proud of her. I had wished that I could shift and run with her. I loved her like my own sister. Growing up, we never had arguments because our thoughts, desires, and dreams were always aligned with each other. We supported each other.

Until tonight.

Tears stung my eyes. What happened to her? To us? Where did things start to go wrong?

“Shit! That felt so good! I have always wanted to do that!” she said in a loud voice as she spat on my face, contrary to the meek, soft-spoken, and gentle Nicole Lancaster that I knew.

“Why are you being like this?” I asked in a broken voice. “We’re best friends!”

“Best friends? Me and you? Oh, please! My stomach would churn every time you’d call me that!” Nicole scoffed. Her fingers dug deep in my skin when she clutched my face. “You think I would let myself be acquainted with a weakling and stupid girl like you? I feel so tired of faking it this whole damn time! Tell me, ‘princess’. How does it feel falling from your royal seat? What was it like to force your head to look up at others’ faces? As for me, it was hell every time I had to look at this moronic face of yours! But at last, the moon goddess finally heard our prayers! I no longer have to do all of those shitty things now. Our goddess is truly a merciful one. You have no idea how hard I prayed for all these to happen.”

When Nicole laughed, our group of friends laughed with her. They were the same ‘friends’ who showered me with praises, who I thought liked me and accepted me for who I was.

I had been blinded by my overwhelming desire to be acknowledged by at least a few wolves outside my clan that I didn’t mind whether I would end up losing money, another bag, or another precious jewelry each time they would visit me in my chambers. Those were just material things anyway. They could be replaced, but not my friends’ affection.

They were quick to run to me in every celebration, but they were also the quickest to run away from me at times of tribulation. I wanted to scream. Just how many times do they plan to break me and my family apart tonight?

Where was the moon goddess’ mercy when we needed it?

It turned out that aside from my family and Chester, nobody else had been real to me. I looked up to search for my groom. My eyes widened when I saw him shift and ran away along with his family members.

Before this, Chester and I had already made a vow to each other. We did it the night of the full moon, just the two of us. That was when he slipped the diamond ring onto my finger and I happily accepted it. The man who swore to be true to me at all times, to love me, and to protect me ran at full speed when I needed him the most. It was enough to completely crush my heart. It took that last piece of hope inside me.

What have I done to be betrayed like this?

“Release my daughter at once!” Mom screamed.

She tried to get in between me and Nicole. She shifted, but the knights were quick to catch her. And when she fought back, Uncle Fredrick stabbed her in the leg.

“No!” I cried out. “Mom!”

I tried to stand but Nicole stepped onto my hand, she buried the heel of her stilettos deep into my finger which made me scream from pain.

With tears still streaming in my eyes, I held the hem of Nicole’s gown using my other hand. “Nicole, please… don’t do this to us, to me. Save my mom at least. I’m begging you.”

The tender smile Nicole used to give me was now wicked. Was she always like this behind my back?

“Do it more. Beg some more, ‘princess’. And maybe I’ll reconsider.”

I SHIVERED when I felt the coldness from the tip of the knight’s blade on my nape. I felt it pierced my skin. And I could smell my own blood dripping. “Katniss!” Archer, my eldest brother, called out just when I was about to lower my head and beg Nicole. He was bleeding profusely already. Still, when he saw my situation, he shifted and bit the knights who stood in his way as he ran to me along with Earl, my second brother, while Dad and Ronan ran to save mom. Nicole and others shrieked when Archer roared. Despite the situation he was in, pain still crossed his amber eyes upon seeing what happened to me. He quickly rubbed his cheek against mine as if to give me some warmth, as if it was his way of comforting me before he released me. He put himself in front of me like he was shielding me from everybody. Earl ran to my side and lowered himself. And when I understood that he wanted me to ride him, I climbed over him. He did not waste another minute and sped away. Earl was the fastest

THE PHONE slipped through my trembling fingers. It fell onto the floor, but the sound of the screen cracking was nothing compared to the sound of my heart shattering for the umpteenth time. I stood there for God knows how long, my body was convulsing. I pulled my hair and screamed, but even my own voice had failed me. It was hoarse because of what I did last night until this morning. My knees shook until I fell down on the floor. My mind was yelling at me, telling me to keep it all together, but I couldn’t breathe. I kept hearing the sound of people rejoicing as they burned the two most important men in my life. I remember their faces. Those were the same people who knocked on our gates, crying and begging for help in an ungodly hour because of the problems in their packs that they couldn’t seem to solve on their own. My parents were busy all the time. They were exhausted and they needed rest too, but even if we stopped them, Mom and Dad still opened their gates for their people and

(Nicole) “OPEN your eyes and look at me, Chester. You belong to me now. I need to know it’s me you are thinking of while I lie here beneath you and not some ugly bitch-“ I didn’t get to finish my sentence when Chester suddenly covered my mouth with his big hand. He thrust himself inside me. I glared at him, aroused and annoyed at the same time, but all the irritation I felt flew out the door when I felt how hard he was. Well, he should be. I sucked him off. And no man in this world could refuse my mouth. Once they get a taste of my tongue, they can’t get enough. The Council members would die to feel my tongue against their rotten dicks once again. All it takes was just a quick tongue play and all those old bastards would cum deliriously and would beg for more. But I would never do that. Not anymore. I am the crown princess now. It doesn’t matter what I did to be here. I own this seat now. And there is no way in hell I will let somebody steal my throne away from me. Nobody can ever

THE FIRST thing I noticed was his long, silver hair which I wanted to grab and touch to find out if it was as velvety as it looked. He was tall, maybe a couple of centimeters taller than my beloved. Both of them had the same built. And both of them looked… tasty as hell. So, this was the infamous hybrid, the Devil King? I licked my upper lip. When he slowly walked inside our domain, it was as if he was marking the land as his. He walked with absolute grace and power. The devil was wearing a black suit which made him look so domineering and so expensive from head to toe. This is bad. I can’t stop thinking naughty thoughts. The nonstop ringing of the bell from the tower near the castle must have irked his eardrums. The hybrid glanced at the tower and casually set it on fire which had me giggling.Unlike most of the wolves, I didn’t feel fear at all. That word does not exist in my vocabulary. Instead, what I felt was desire and it burned inside me. I didn’t think I would meet someone who

(Katniss)“I’M DISAPPOINTED. We came there expecting a battle, but all they did was bark. They are wolves, but they acted like puppies. Those bastards could only open their mouths, they could not even bite.”“On second thought, we ought to be glad, Drake. His Grace could only spare a few minutes of his time and energy in that place. His body is still recovering. He had already exhausted too much of his energy when he went there himself. Had he stayed longer, the enemies would have known that he is currently not in his best form. They would use it against him.”“Well, you have a point there, Khal. What amazed me though was the crown princess and her fiancé. Did you smell them? They went out like that; their bodies smell of after-sex as if they were advertising it to the whole kingdom. She had the guts to touch His Grace with those hands. It looks like they tried to finish it off even after we barged in. And they call her a ‘princess?’”I woke up when I heard those voices. The one calle

(Katniss)“EARL, it’s me, your little sister. Don’t you recognize me?” I asked and held my brother’s hand. Ronan woke up tonight, but we didn’t get to talk properly because he shifted and had turned wild again. He ran into the woods. The knights caught him and placed him in the room next door but he has yet to return to his human form.Until now, I could still hear him howling. My little brother was crying. Just what kind of torture did they go through for them to be like this?I wished Archer was here. Ronan looked up to him. I’m sure he could pacify Ronan easily since he inherited Dad’s personality. Archer was the kindest and the most responsible among us. But he could also be the most domineering and authoritative when he wanted to discipline someone. And the recipient of that disciplinary action was often Earl who was the most playful among us. Whenever Archer would talk, it was impossible for a person not to listen to him, including Earl.My eldest brother had that kind of magic.

“I WAS told that I’d find you here, your grace. Did I disturb you?” I asked Blade after I stood beside him in the bar counter. He was drinking alone.“Can you hold your liquor, little wolf?” he asked instead as he motioned me to sit.“I don’t know,” I answered after sitting beside him. “I guess I will find out tonight.”The corners of his mouth lifted into a smile. “You haven’t had a drink before?”“I tried it once when I turned eighteen; I didn’t enjoy it. I had never taken a sip since then. But I think I’d enjoy it tonight. Can I have some, your grace?”Blade rose from his seat and took a shot glass. He spooned some ice cubes from the bucket before filling the glass with whiskey and then he handed it to me. I grimaced after one sip and he chuckled. It still tasted awful to me. It burned in my throat. He looked into my eyes and said, “You will get used to it.”Why do I feel like he wasn’t only referring to the whiskey?I shrugged. A SMILE curved the devil’s lips. But I didn’t feel any hostility in that smile. He just looked amused when he said, “I always knew you were brave, little wolf. It takes an immense courage to reach that part of the tower, to make a deal with me, and to ask me to cut your ties with your mate.” He stood straight and rolled up his sleeves. “So, when do you wish to start the spell?”I stole his shot glass from the counter and drank the remaining whiskey before saying, “Right now, your grace.”I bit my lower lip until it bled. I needed to do it to prevent myself from fainting from the pain. It kept getting worse every second. When will Chester stop? Wasn’t he tired yet?He was an Alpha indeed. His stamina was one of a kind.“Then one glass will not be enough for you to survive the long night.” He opened another bottle of whiskey and handed it to me. “Take it. You will need the whole damn bottle, trust me.”Without another word, I took the bottle and drank straight from it.“Are you ready?”

Six years later… (Blade) ISABELLA quickly hid the box of chocolates she was munching on when she saw me. She put it behind her. She looked like a little ball of sunshine with her yellow school uniform, yellow sandals, and yellow ribbons. “Were you eating chocolates again?” I asked. She averted her eyes and denied, “No, daddy.” I grinned. She had traces of chocolates on her plump cheeks. Even her tiny fingers had them. Anyone from a meter away could smell them in her. “Really?” She pouted. “Fine. I lied. Sorry, daddy.” She took out her chocolates and with a proud expression, she added, “But I worked hard for these! You can’t take these away from me.” “You worked hard?” I asked, amused. “Alright. Tell me, princess. What did you sell this time?” Last time, this tiny negotiator sold her stick drawings to the council behind our backs. We only found out when Katniss and I came home and saw countless cakes and cookies in the kitchen. The ministers were so fond of Isabella that she c

(Katniss) EARLY in the morning, I woke up, ran to the bathroom, and threw up. I was already on my second trimester but there were still mornings like this although the doctor had already assured me and Blade that there were some cases when this happens. It was not easy carrying the baby of the most powerful man in all the kingdoms but I was told that our mate bond was helping my body recover from fatigue and the difficulties. And I think it was true. Whenever I see Blade, the stress seems to fade away all at once. I sat on the tiled floor, leaned against the toilet bowl, and took a deep breath. Not long after, Blade showed up beside me. He wiped the sweat off my face. He often sees me like this but his expression was still the same. He looked like he was the one in pain. “I know what you’re going to say next, love. And no, you don’t have to call a doctor for this. This is perfectly normal,” I told him in a hoarse voice. “I wish I could carry her for you,” Blade said instead in a

‘DON’T be like me, son. Do not let them down: your woman and your child. I saw it when I held her hand.’ Those were Pierre’s last words. When I heard it, I felt like cold water had been splashed onto my face. That was when memories of me and Katniss started flooding back in my head. And now after all this time, here we are. When I opened the door, I saw her there. The woman who told me to hurry back home was now peacefully sleeping. It was only two in the afternoon. A soft smile curved my lips when I saw her nesting, it was what female shifters do when they are in heat or pregnant. They would wrap themselves with the clothes of their mate to calm down. She was covered by so much clothes that I could only see her face. “Blade…” she whispered in her sleep. “Yes, love. I’m here now,” I replied and gave her a kiss on the forehead. I quietly took the pile of clothes off her to make sure she would sleep more comfortably. My throat went dry when I saw that underneath all my clothes whic

(Blade)I DID not think that a day like this would come, a day when I would look him in the eyes and I would feel nothing. Today, I received a call from one of the nurses who was in charge of Hawk saying that he was hysterical and was calling for me.I looked around. This place was where Katniss had sent him. In a mental asylum.“What did you do? You are not supposed to look like that! You don’t look broken at all!” Hawk screamed. “Why? You have to suffer! You owe it to me!”He wanted to get up but his knees wobbled and he fell back onto the bed. After I took away his mana, his old age caught up to him quickly. His hair had turned gray. He may look like he was only in his fifties but his body was rotten and was dying inside.Hawk’s glorious days were gone. Now, he appeared as an old miserable man, a fitting end for someone like him.I dragged a wooden chair and placed it in front of him. I sat there and stared at him. OUR wolves immediately sniffed the air. There were no signs of intruders anywhere. My mind went blank. While Blade rushed to check their bodies, my knees trembled and I fell onto the floor.I stared at their blood on the carpet. All the memories we had made together flashed before my eyes. “No, this isn’t happening. Not them.” My voice trailed off. “This can’t be real!” I held my mentor’s hand. “Get up, please! Don’t do this to us!”“These bunch of morons,” Blade uttered after some time. His jaw clenched.“What are you saying?” I asked, confused.“They are alive.”“I don’t understand. I can’t hear their heartbeats anymore, Blade.”“There is still a faint heartbeat. These idiots are like this because they tried a spell without informing me.”And he was right because after a while, I heard the hybrids cough. And when they opened their eyes, their hair started to change its color. From blonde, I witnessed how their hair had turned… dark.“Please don’t scream. You are ruining our eardrums

HE knows. And he lied to me. He didn’t wait in the bedroom like he told me would. Instead, he stayed where I could easily see him once I was out of the hall.Blade was aware that I only faked the confidence I wore when my brothers and the council were there. He knew when I was wearing the mask and he knew when it was time to unmask me.When Blade saw my expression, he smiled and welcomed me in his arms because as always, he understood me even when no words could come out of my mouth. He understands my heart and my soul better than anyone does. But first, I’d like to visit Chester to say goodbye.”“Alright.”Together, we walked hand in hand until we reached the gate. The hybrids were already waiting for us outside. BLOOD was still trickling from my mouth when I released Blade.“Your majesty, that was a sin against the moon goddess!” The council members were still pale when they hurriedly kneeled on the ground and looked up at the sky. And together, they uttered, “Oh, merciful Goddess! Please forgive our Queen!”I stared at Blade’s neck when I saw the bitemark. He usually heals in a few seconds but the mark did not heal this time. It stayed right where I wanted it to be.When my wolf howled, I heard his wolf answer.“You imprinted on me?” he asked, still astounded.Instead of responding, I closed my eyes and leaned on him while caressing his ears. The voices, the ringing, they had all stopped at once.I opened my eyes and our gazes met. I linked up with him.“There. You will no longer hear the voices, love. We are one now. (Katniss)THIS morning, when I woke up and didn’t find Blade by my side, for the first time, I didn’t panic. My heart was calm. There was warmth in the room. I could smell his scent from the pillow beside me, a sign that last night was not a dream, that he was truly with me.And there were petals falling out of nowhere, filling the room with his presence, which meant that he did not leave. This time, he was… staying. It was just like the first morning I woke up in his tower. I was young, afraid, and unsure about everything. It felt like just yesterday when it happened.Blade knew that I would be worried. Every petal falling on my skin had his warmth.I know that there were many unresolved issues that he and I still need to face. After our encounter with Magnus and his army last night, I still hadn’t discussed anything with the council yet. The hybrids, including me, froze when we failed to hear Katniss’ heartbeat. I took a step back; my face had gone pale and my heart was pounding. It was all my fault.Just when the king’s darkness was slowly disappearing, just when he was starting to go back to normal, I did something so outrageous. The King stared at Magnus and his pack. In the middle of the dark, we saw the fire blazing in his eyes. He was about to go on a rampage, I was sure of that, but then we suddenly heard a gasp.It was Katniss.Just like before, each time we thought all hope had lost, she would do the unexpected. She had always been the game-changer.My jaw dropped when we witnessed her shift in her wolf form. It was as if she had never lost her wolf, like it was still inside her and w
