HER THOUGHTS swirled chaotically, her stomach twisting and her arms tightening as she glanced at the man sitting on his swiveling chair and looking at her intently.
"What did you say?" she asked, her voice fainting, seemingly unable to believe what she had just heard and hoping she had heard it wrong.
"Your father was arrested. He got himself into gambling trouble again."
Michelle caught her breath. Her eyes widened at the sudden news that struck her to the core. Even though she did not receive the love and affection from the old man, she couldn’t deny how worried she had become right now. Even her palms were sweating.
"At which police station is he imprisoned? I need to go check on him," she asked, going into an instant panic.
Ethan let out a sigh and leaned his back against his chair. "I already took care of it."

"I paid the penalty so the cops could let him out."
