KAELEN’S POV

☆☆☆☆▪♧♧♧♧

The mahogany table in the Estate’s meeting room gleamed under the dim chandelier light, reflecting the tense faces of the men gathered around it. I had tightened my grip on the Estate, replacing Darius’s loyalists with men I could trust. There were a few whispers of dissent, rumblings of discontent, and they needed to be crushed swiftly and decisively.

I sat at the head of the long table, my gaze sweeping over the faces of my so-called allies. They looked at me, some with a semblance of respect, others with a flicker of doubt in their eyes. It was the doubt I needed to squash.

“Darius,” I began, my voice calm, even, “ruled this Estate like it was his personal playground. Like we were his toys to command. He made decisions without consulting anyone, as if his word was law, and ours meant nothing. Did he ever once consider us, the strength of this territory, in his decisions?”

A murmur rippled through the room. Good. They were listening, their resentment simmering

DARIUS’ POV☆☆☆☆☆☆I crept through the hidden tunnel, my heart pounding like a war drum, flanked by two of Sylas’s men who owed me more than a few favors. The passage was damp and dark, and every sound echoed in my ears as if warning me of what lay ahead. I had to be silent, every step measured, every breath controlled. My mind raced with thoughts of betrayal and impending danger. That snake. Kaelen. I’d been so blind. He wasn’t just some ordinary beta, no way. He had power, real power, and plans I never saw coming. He played me, the bastard. Pretended to be nothing, just another face in the crowd, while he was plotting, waiting for his chance to stab me in the back. And he took it. He actually did it.Now, his presence corrupted the estate like a cancer.I could see that changes had been made. The familiar architecture was still there, but it was overrun by new guards and unfamiliar symbols. It was clear that Kaelen had strong allies, ones I never expected him to have. I scanned the

DARIUS’S POV☆☆☆☆☆☆☆“Darius?” She whispered, her voice filled with disbelief.“Emmeline,” I breathed, my heart aching at the sight of her. She looked pale and thinner. Her eyes, usually so bright and full of life, were clouded with fear.“How… how did you get here?” she asked, taking a step towards me.“Who's there!?”A guard appeared in the doorway before I could respond, his eyes widening in alarm. I could see his eyes narrow as he reached for his weapon.“Intruder!” he yelled, raising his weapon.“Get behind me, Emmeline!” I shouted, pushing her back. The guard lunged, and I met him head-on. He was strong, but I was fueled by adrenaline and pure, unadulterated rage. We exchanged a few brutal blows. I blocked his punch and drove my fist into his gut. He doubled over, groaning. I didn’t wait—I kicked him in the side, sending him sprawling to the ground, his weapon clattering away. But the noise had attracted attention. I could hear more guards approaching, their heavy footsteps poun

EMMELINE’S POV☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆His roar shook the very air around me. I flinched, squeezing my eyes shut as the sound bounced off the walls of this… this prison. Vases shattered against the wall, the heavy wooden chair he’d been sitting on splintered into pieces as he hurled it across the room. I flinched with every crash, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. Darius’s failed rescue attempt had lit a fire in him that I hadn’t seen before, a wild, uncontrollable rage that was now directed squarely at me, even though I hadn't done a damn thing.“You stupid girl!” he bellowed, his voice thick with fury. I didn’t dare open my eyes. I just curled in on myself, wishing I could disappear, become invisible. His footsteps came closer, heavy and menacing. I could feel his presence looming over me. “Look at me!” he snarled, and I finally forced my eyes open. His face was contorted with rage, his eyes blazing with a dangerous light.“That… that idiot!” He yelled, and another crash fo

DARIUS’ POV★★★★★★★Seriously, these damn stab wounds still throbbed like a bastard drum. Every time I shifted, it sent a jolt of pain through my side, but I couldn’t stay still. Emmeline needed me. The image of her terrified face when Kaelen’s goons dragged her away kept flashing in my mind. That bastard wasn't going to mark her under the full moon. I won’t let that happen.Sylas fussed over me, trying to get me to lie back down, but I waved him off. “I’m fine,” I lied, the words catching in my throat. Fine? I felt like I'd been ripped apart and put back together with rusty nails. But compared to what Emmeline must be going through, this pain was nothing.“You’re bleeding again, Darius,” Sylas said, his voice laced with concern. Lately he’s been my closest friend, more like my right-hand man. He knew the way I loved Emmeline, knew how much she meant to me. “Doesn’t matter,” I grunted, pushing myself up to a sitting position against the rough bark of a tree. The forest floor was damp

EMMELINE♣︎♣︎♣︎♧♣︎♣︎♣︎Ugh, these silver robes felt like they weighed a ton. Every step they made me take felt like dragging myself through thick mud. Weak and tired didn’t even begin to cover it. I was running on fumes, and those fumes were mostly made of sheer stubbornness and the tiny spark of hope that Darius would somehow, someway, find me.They shoved me into this room in the Estate that Kaelen had turned into his creepy ritual chamber. Firelight danced on the walls, making everything look all shadowy and ominous. And there he was, Kaelen, standing there like he owned the damn place, waiting for me. My stomach churned. I tried to keep my face blank, to not let him see how terrified I was, but it was hard. There were other men in the room with him, big and burly, and their presence just amplified the fear that was already clawing at my throat.Kaelen looked at me, a smug look on his face that made my blood boil despite my exhaustion.. “See? I told you she’d come willingly.” He sm

EMMELINE’S POV♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♧♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎My heart leaped into my throat the second I saw the crimson stain blooming on Darius’s side. “No!” The word ripped from me, a raw, desperate sound. I wanted to run to him, to shield him, to somehow make the blood disappear, but his hand shot out, a silent command. “Stay back, Emmeline,” he grunted, his voice tight with pain.Stay back? How could I? He was bleeding, for goodness sake! My vision swam with unshed tears, and a cold dread coiled in my stomach. And then I saw him – Kaelen. That smug, hateful smile stretched across his face as he took slow, deliberate steps towards Darius. The sight of him, so pleased with himself, made my blood boil despite the terror gripping me.Darius, as stubborn as always, straightened up, his hand pressed against his bleeding side. He swayed a little, and my breath hitched. “You’ll die here, Darius,” Kaelen sneered, his voice laced with satisfaction. Then, he lunged. It happened so fast. One moment Kaelen was stand

DARIUS’ POV★★★☆★★★My eyelids felt like they were glued together with dried blood and sweat. Every inch of my body screamed in protest as I tried to shift, but a soft weight on my arm stopped me. Emmeline. Her head was resting on the edge of the bed, her dark hair spilling over the white sheets. She looked so damn tired, but her grip on my arm was tight, like she was afraid I’d disappear if she let go.A wave of guilt washed over me. She shouldn’t have had to go through this. It was my job to protect her, and I’d almost failed. The memory of Kaelen’s sneering face and the cold steel of his blade flashed in my mind, followed by the searing pain in my side. I clenched my jaw, the anger bubbling up inside me despite my weakened state. That son of a bitch would pay.I managed a weak cough, and Emmeline’s head snapped up. Her eyes, red-rimmed and puffy, widened with relief. “Darius!” Her voice was hoarse, barely a whisper.“Hey,” I croaked, my throat feeling like sandpaper. “You okay?” St

EMMELINE’S POV ♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♧♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎♣︎My feet felt heavy as I walked through the familiar halls of the Estate. Everything looked the same, but the air was thick with the lingering tension of what had happened. It was like a ghost of fear still floated around, clinging to the walls and furniture. My own body ached in places I hadn't even realized were bruised, a constant reminder of Kaelen's attack. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the ache in my chest, the raw fear that still flickered in my heart every time I thought about Darius. He was getting stronger, thank goodness. Seeing him lying there, so pale and still… it had been the worst moment of my life. I’d honestly thought I’d lost him. And the thought of it… it still made me want to throw up.As I walked, I noticed some of the servants and pack members who had been… well, *under* Kaelen's thumb, for lack of a better word. They looked nervous, their eyes darting around like they expected to be punished any second. Some

EMMELINE’S POV■■■■■□□□■■■■■The way Seraphine looked at him… it was subtle, almost imperceptible to anyone who wasn’t me. But I saw it. The slight tilt of her head, the lingering in her gaze just a fraction too long. And the way she spoke to him, her voice a little softer, a little more… sugary than it was when she addressed anyone else. It made my teeth grind. They were in the war room again, poring over maps spread across the large table. The dim light of the oil lamps cast long shadows, making the atmosphere feel even more secretive. I’d been trying to distract myself with needlepoint in the corner, but my fingers kept fumbling with the thread. Every now and then, a laugh would drift my way – Darius’s, usually, prompted by something Seraphine had said. It was a casual laugh, the kind he used with his friends, with his commanders. But it still felt like a punch to the gut.Jealous? Maybe. A little. Okay, maybe a lot. It wasn’t just about Darius, though. It was about the way she was

EMMELINE’S POV■■■■□□□□■■■■The roasted meat tasted like ash in my mouth. Not because of the cooking, Martha always made the best food, but because the relief was still too new, too fragile. Darius sat across from me, his eyes tired but a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. We were alive. Kaelen’s bastards had finally been pushed back, the ones who weren’t running had met their end. Good riddance.“Do you think it’s truly over?” I asked, my voice no more than a whisper. The silence in the room felt strange, almost out of place, after all the shouting and clashing steel of the battle just passed.Darius reached across the small table, his hand covering mine. His touch, warm and solid, was a grounding force. “For now, love. For now.”We ate in comfortable silence for a while, the only sound the clinking of our cutlery. It was a small slice of normalcy, something we hadn't had in what felt like forever. Just as I was starting to relax, a shadow fell across the doorway.“Alpha,” a young

DARIUS POV◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆I was dead asleep, finally managing to drift off after the tense day we’d had. Emmeline was curled up beside me, her breathing soft and even. For a few precious hours, the worry had receded, replaced by the simple comfort of having her close. Then all hell broke loose.A bloodcurdling yell ripped through the night, followed by the unmistakable clang of metal on metal. My eyes snapped open, my senses instantly on high alert. Emmeline stirred beside me, her eyes wide with fear.“What’s happening?” she whispered.“We’re under attack!” I shouted, throwing the covers off. There was no time for explanations. I grabbed my sword, which I always kept within reach, and raced towards the door. The sounds of fighting were getting louder, closer. Shouts, the clash of steel, the thud of bodies hitting the ground. Kaelen’s bastards. They weren’t wasting any time.I burst out of our room and into the hallway, which was already swarming with guards, their faces grim and determined.

DARIUS POV◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆The damn alarm was still blaring, its shrill cry grating on my already frayed nerves. I burst out of the Estate, ready to tear into whoever was causing this racket. But what I saw stopped me dead in my tracks.Arrows. Fucking arrows were raining down on us. They whistled through the air, thudding into the ground, bouncing off walls, and embedding themselves in trees. Guards were scrambling, yelling, pointing up at the sky like it was about to fall. One arrow landed just a few feet away from me, its fletching quivering in the dirt. I bent down and picked it up, my fingers brushing against the cold metal of the arrowhead. Tied to the shaft was a small, folded piece of paper. Before I could even think about opening it, Sylas was at my side, holding up another arrow. “This one’s got a message too,” he said, his voice tight. I saw the same telltale piece of paper tied to his arrow.“There are more,” he added, his eyes scanning the sky as another arrow whizzed past us.I

DARIUS POV◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆“Sylas, you see anything out of the ordinary?” I asked, my voice low as we walked the perimeter of the Estate. There was a thick tension in the air that I couldn’t shake. Kaelen was gone, finally rotting in the ground where he belonged, but the snake had shed its skin, leaving behind a bunch of venomous little shits who still believed in his twisted cause. They were planning something, I could feel it in my gut, and I wasn’t about to let them catch us with our pants down. Not again.Sylas, my right-hand man and a brother in all but blood, scanned the dark with his usual hawk-like gaze. “Nothing yet, Darius. But the men are on edge. They feel it too.”“Good,” I said with a grunt. “Make sure they stay sharp—eyes wide, ears alert. Every single tunnel leading here needs to be under watch. Don’t forget how I slipped in back then… like a ghost.” I let out a dry chuckle. The tunnels had once been my secret weapon. Now, they could just as easily be used against me.We st

EMMELINE’S POV★☆★☆★☆★☆Waking up in Darius’s arms was becoming my new favorite thing. The warmth of his body pressed against mine, the steady rhythm of his breathing in my ear – it was a feeling of safety I hadn’t known I craved so deeply. Especially after last night. His words, his promise to make me Luna… it still felt like a dream. I snuggled closer, burying my face in his chest, a stupid, happy grin spreading across my face. Luna. Emmeline, Luna of the Blood Moon Pack. It had a nice ring to it, didn’t it?I closed my eyes, letting the image of myself standing beside Darius, strong and confident, wash over me. I could almost feel the weight of the responsibility, but it wasn’t scary. Not with him by my side. A soft chuckle rumbled in Darius’s chest, and my eyes fluttered open. He was already awake, watching me with that familiar, intense gaze that always made my heart do a little flip.“What’s got you smiling like a loon?” he asked, his voice husky with sleep.I playfully punched

DARIUS★☆★☆The moment Emmeline told me what those two brainless hens had said, something inside me snapped. Pure, unadulterated fury. They dared to question her? They dared to speak ill of her in my pack? They clearly hadn’t learned a damn thing.“Stay here,” I told her, my voice low and tight. I saw the worry in her eyes, the way she reached out to stop me, but I was already gone. I needed them to understand, to truly understand, who Emmeline was to me and what their place was in this pack.I stormed through the packhouse, my command echoing through the halls. “Everyone! Gather in the main hall. Now!”The flurry of activity that followed was immediate. Wolves, young and old, stopped what they were doing and headed towards the main hall, their faces a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. They knew that tone. They knew when the Alpha was pissed. When everyone was assembled, the hall was packed, the air thick with anticipation. I stood on the raised platform, my gaze sweeping over ev

EMMELINE’S POV♧♧♧♧♧♧♧♧♧I tried. Honestly, I really tried to act like everything was normal. Like the shadows didn't seem to cling to me a little tighter these days. I even went for a walk, just like I used to. Remember those days? When a stroll through the pack lands would actually clear my head, make me feel… better? Yeah, those were the days. Now, every rustle of leaves, every hushed conversation felt like it was about me.I was halfway through the usual path, the one that winds past the training grounds and towards the garden, when I heard it. Just the faintest murmur at first, like the wind whispering secrets. But then it got clearer, sharper. It was coming from near the laundry shed, where a couple of maids were usually busy. Curiosity, and maybe a morbid sense of self-punishment, made me stop. I crept closer, hiding behind a thick oak tree, and listened.“Honestly, I still think she’s the reason all of this happened,” one of them said, her voice low and laced with something th

DARIUS★★★★★Okay, Kaelen was dead. Finally. But that didn't mean the shitshow was over. The bastard had managed to worm his way into my Estate, which meant he had help. Someone on the inside had betrayed me. And that thought alone made my blood run cold. I couldn't let that slide. Not for Emmeline, not for the pack.My first priority was making sure the Estate was secure. I wasn't taking any chances. I gathered all the guards in the main hall, and you could cut the tension in the air with a knife. Their faces were a mix of relief and apprehension. They knew something was up."Listen up," I said, my voice hard, leaving no room for argument. "Kaelen didn't just waltz in here. He had help. Someone among you decided to turn traitor. And I'm going to find out who."I could see the fear in their eyes, and good. They should be scared. I wasn't in the mood for games.I started questioning them one by one. Not just the usual "Where were you?" bullshit. I asked specific questions, things only
