Two days Zoya was at home without doing anything. On the third day she started to get bored because all she could do was eating, sleeping and talking with her family. She wanted to go out, but was reluctant to go alone because she had no friends. His two younger siblings, Rahul and Danishka, were busy with their school activity.
She wanted to talk to his father about the possible job at the Vishaya Group company, but her father had not said anything about it. Narendra Prashadh thought Zoya still needed a break before she actually deployed at the company.
Suddenly she remembered to call her old friends. No one knows that she had returned to India, not even had close friend, Ramya. The last time Zoya phoned her six months ago while still in Boston. They talked for a long time on the phone at the time, reminiscing memories from high school.
Ramya Shilpa was the daughter of an influential public figure in Mumbai. Her father was a well known politician. Zoya even heard that Ramya's father was almost elected Mayor of Mumbai, but he didn't succeed because his party could not gain dominance in the vote.
And Ramya seemed to follow her father to become politician, she is currently studying political science at the University of Mumbai.
Suddenly she wanted to call Ramya, telling that she had returned to Mumbai. She hoped the girl had some free time so they could meet.
Zoya quickly grabbed her phone. She looked for Ramya's number in the contacts, and a moment later she was connected to the number. Of course Ramya was shocked that Zoya called her. Her voice sounded so happy.
"How are you? How's Boston, Pretty Girl?"
"Hey, not in Boston anymore. I am in Mumbai now."
"How long? Why didn't tell me you were in Mumbai?" said the girl excited and curious.
Zoya told everything. She told her that she had finished college and going to work in his father's company. Ramya listened intently.
"What a coincidence that you are already in Mumbai. Today, in the afternoon to be exact, I'm having a small party by inviting my friends. You must come!"
"On what occasion?" asked Zoya.
"Hey! Don't remember what date it is? It's my birthday!" Ramya almost screamed, half annoyed.
"Oh my goodness!" Zoya covered her mouth and then patted her forehead. How coud she forget? Only then did she remember that Ramya Shilpa, her close friend from high school had a birthday.
"You have to come, huh? Don't look for excuses. If you don't come, I don't want to see you again. Okay?"
Zoya laughed hearing her friend's threat. What a strange way of inviting.
"Oh yes, of course I will come. What time does the party begin and where? Just tell me to get ready."
"The Oberoi Hotel, at four."
"Okay, okay! I'm definitely coming. Are there other provisions, a kind of dress code?"
"Nope! Up to you! Definitely a party dress. But if you want to wear Sari to my birthday, that's fine too." Ramya chuckled at the other end.
"Okay, fine, Sweetie, I'll come . Alright then?" said Zoya about to cut off the conversation. She knew that Ramya must be very busy with the preparations for the party, so she wanted to hang up the phone.
"Okay, I'm waiting for you. Bye…"
The conversation was cut off. Just a moment to call was enough for her because they will meet each other later. Maybe she met not only Ramya at the party, but also with the others. She should also be prepared to determine what dress she would wear.
The clock showed 2:30. She was ready to go. Her make-up looks unobtrusive in fact it seemed simple. Knee-deep short sleeve cotton dress. Her neck was slightly open, but she wore a necklace. There are small maroon floral motifs adorning the waist and chest as well as on the arms. Other accessories was only a gold bracelet and ring on the right index finger, and a small party wallet that can only fit cellphones and cards. So simple. It's just that the most charming was the hairdo which she usually tied back was now flowing beautifully with the ends of her hair curled up in a roll. The makeup was also not too attention-grabbing.
But it was precisely with a simple appearance that she looks elegant, not inferior to the appearance of Bollywood celebrities.
She din't need any more recognition. After all, everyone knew that she was a daughter of a tycoon named Narendra Prasadh.
"Where are you going?" her mother asked as she came out of her room. Her mother was surprised to see Zoya's appearance which was different than usual.
"I want to attend Ramya birthday party, Mom. She invited me earlier."
"Who are you going with?"
"Alone."
"You'd better be accompanied by a bodyguard. Let me call one of them."
"No need. I can go alone."
"Alright then, but don't come home late. If anything happened, just calling. By the way, how you get there?"
"I drive the car."
"Your new car?" her mother asked.
"Of course not. I drive my favorite car."
"Up to you. The important thing is that you have to be careful."
"Yeah, I am going now." Zoya hurried out of the house towards the garage which was separate from the main house. She had to hurry because she didn't want to be late. From her house to the Oberoi Hotel in the Nariman point was approximately 23 kilometers.
The Premier Padmini had been accompanying Zoya for a long time. The metallic blue car was a typical Indian car. Small and cute, resembling a Fiat. Even though her friends often teased her because of the vintage model, Zoya didn't care. People who are really rich, no longer need recognition about the brand and the car they have.
The Oberoi hotel was a tall square-shaped building overlooking the ocean. Prestigious venue for Mumbai jetset events. And Zoya knew the guests who will come at least having influential parents in Mumbai. One thing that very interesting was the view along the beach at night. The yellowish street lamps lined up neatly giving off a golden gleam. People calling the area the Queen's Necklace, because it looked like a necklace.
She was on the road for almost an hour and almost arrived at the Oberoi Hotel. She parked her car in the parking lot and walked to the entrance. Alone.
She walked confidently even though when she got out of the car the crowds glanced at her with a mixture of wonder and awe. A beautiful classy girl with a western appearance driving a vintage car? What a weird girl!
But Zoya was indifferent. She just felt comfortable with the look. While inside the hotel she asked the receptionist, which banquet room Ramya Shilpa had his party.
The receptionist was seen checking something on the paper, then said.
"May I see the invitation card, Miss?"
"What invitation card?"
"Sorry, this is a restricted party, only those who have an invitation can enter," he said with a smile even though it looked artificial.
"Oh, I see? I just got invited by phone. But tell to the party host, Zoya Bipasha Vijayalakshmi is waiting in the lobby."
He is a young man with a baby face. Maybe he had just finished school and was working. For a moment he seemed to call and informed Zoya's arrival. At first his face looked normal, but after a few seconds it seemed to change and he said, "Okay...well..."
He hung up the phone and said,
"Sorry Miss Zoya, I was just carrying out the procedure and didn't know you were one of the VVIP invitees. Go ahead, the party is over there" he pointed south.
Zoya just smiles. Before she could take a step, the receptionist said again,
"Wait a minute, it's best if you escorted by our staff."
"It's okay, I can do it myself."
Zoya stepped into the banquet room. The semi-high heels she was wearing sounded clatter on the shiny marble floor.
The entrance to the banquet room had been decorated with party decorations. There were real flowers that decorate on both sides. And she was greeted by the receptionist, two well-dressed men and ushered her in.
For a moment she stared at the atmosphere in the room. So many have come, maybe dozens. The party atmosphere was clearly felt. She took a deep breath and kept walking.
This was the little party that Ramya told. The event being held at a prestigious venue, the guests were clearly not random people. It could be seen from their appearance. The clothes they wore clearly from famous designers also from the smell of perfume.
The atmosphere she felt clearly showed it. Zoya stared at some familiar faces, like rising Bollywood stars. But she didn't know their names.
Ramya immediately welcomed Zoya. She stretching her arms and hugging her .
"You look very beautiful," said Zoya with compliments seeing Ramya. Her appearance was so classy. Ramya's lips was sweet marsala in color.
"You came alone?" she asked in surprise. Zoya nodded. They chatted for a moment. A waiter came with a tray of cocktail glasses. Zoya picked one, and thanked him. The waiter left to walk around.
"Okay, please join the others first, I will greet the guests," said Ramya again. Zoya was left alone.
She scanned again in case someone recognized her and she could join.
Suddenly her eyes caught a man he knew very well. The man who had filled her days before leaving for Boston. Sunil Chakraborty. He was son of the Mumbai Police chief, Amaneesh Chakraborty. Sunil seemed to be holding a woman whom she also knew well because she was also her friend, Sharmila Swetha.
It turns out that Sunil also saw Zoya. They looked at each other and both were shocked.
Zoya never thought she would meet Sunil here. But the reality spoke differently, the man who once filled her days appeared suddenly from the middle of nowhere. She had forgotten about him, throwing away all memories of him. And she succeeded. But why was he here?Uh, of course Ramya invited him. They went to the same school including the girl with Sunil, Sharmila Swetha. At least, the girl used to be Zoya's friend.Sharmila, a girl who was not only smart but also beautiful. Her intelligence was from her father, a leading Professor and internist in Mumbai. Supposedly Sharmila also completed her studies in medicine.Sunil affectionately brought Sharmila towards her. They both smiled although in Zoya's eyes looks like artificial smile."Hi Zoya, how are you?" said Sunil. Zoya couldn't help but smile back and replied, "Good. How are you guys?""As you can see." It was Sharmila who answered."Back from Boston?" Sunil asked."Yeah, just a few days ago.""On vacation or what?""I've graduate
"Are you crazy?" Choletti Sai Kumari scolded his only daughter. There was no cause suddenly she asked to be married to a man who had been making her heart flutter wildly. That man was none other than Praveen Jayachandran.Since getting to know Praveen, Ranjana had fallen in love with him. Every moment the young man's face haunted her, dancing in her eyes. Make her heart always pounding, and blood flow faster. In her mind, Praveen was so charming.Praveen before leaving for Mumbai, worked at Choletti's pottery factory. For four months he worked there secretly to raise money. He worked so diligently, from morning to evening making various clay tools. Starting from taking clay, processing and shaping it to the burning process, he did it. Although at first he was not very skilled, but he learned quickly so he was able to make pottery in greater numbers than other workers.Choletti, the business owner, liked Praveen. At first he didn't expect the young man to work hard at his place, but se
The memorial service of his mother was only a few days to come. Nearby neighbors had been invited. Of course, no one would refuse because they would be served with many foods and drinks. Some poor people had also been invited. Auntie Neha had been shopping for necessities at the market using the of Praveen's mother savings and also donations from mourners on the day of death. She bought more than enough that she came home with a bajaj almost full of all kinds of groceries. Rice, flour, sugar, chicken meat, eggs, various vegetables, and spices. Enough for a hundred people. They invited only dozens, but just in case there would be more than that. Luckily the money was more than enough and there were a few thousand rupees left. Later it would be the women who cook. Usually in cooking events, they also use it as a gathering for residents. They chatted and joked with each other to increase their intimacy. Praveen had also collected a lot of firewood for cooking. At that time he took a sh
"Dad, I'm really bored at home. I want to start working, dedicating myself to the company as well as practicing the skill I have. Why didn't you ask me to join the company?" Zoya asked Narendra Prasadh that morning at the family dining table.Narendra Prasadh took a sip of his black coffee and put the cup back on the saucer. He looked his eldest daughter straight in the eye. Looks like she really bored at home, without doing any thing productive."Maybe I should look for a job at another company, if you don't give me a position. I'll just apply at the Central Bank then. There is a job vacancy there," Zoya said more like a threat.Narendra smiled hearing that."I sent you to the best campus in the world, how can someone else take advantage of your intelligence? No way!""Then why until now you make me unemployed?""So you feel unemployed now, My Dear?""Exactly! That is what I feel right now!""Don't worry, there's no way I won't give you an honorable position in the Vishaya Group. I'm
Zoya jumped onto the bed. Suddenly the bed shook. She did not accept his father's decision. Dharavi? Why go there? Even though her father had explained why she was sent there, Zoya still didn't accept it. This was a really crazy idea, it didn't make any sense. If it's to galvanize her sense she don't have to go to Dharavi. Asked her to stay there for three months would be like living in hell. She never thought whether she could survive or not. Why bother if only perceive life of the lower classes? After all, she had a high level of sympathy and empathy for the poor. At school, she often involved in social actions. Even while studying in Boston, she also participated in charity activities. She thought her father's idea was too ridiculous. How dare to galvanize his daughter in such a way? Moreover, she was a girl. Sending her to Dharavi could clearly threaten her safety especially if people knew she was Narendra Prasadh's daughter. She can be a target for extortion and even kidnapping
Praveen stared sorrowfully at the small river where his mother's ashes dispersed. It's been ten days since she died and only memories remain in his head. All the memories with his mother from childhood to leaving her three months ago swirled in his head. Like the fragments of a mosaic that broken up and he tried to put them back together, into a whole picture. He knew, the remnants of the ashes that he dispersed, had no trace at all. Only the brownish-colored of water flow not far from he stood. He wanted to say goodbye to his mother because tomorrow he would return to Mumbai. Memorial event had been held and went well. As a child he had fulfilled his responsibilities. Nothing else was left.Praveen also wanted to overcome the sadness he felt. He wanted to be a new person, a better new man. He wished to throw away the dream of becoming a Bollywood star, and live the live according to reality. Never mind to bury that dream here, no need to be realized in Mumbai there. In front of the
The river was shallow, but due to a lot of mud at the bottom the water surface was as high as Ranjana's neck. She seemed to be gasping for air to keep her head above the water but the mud seemed to swallow her feet.Praveen was already in the water alone with Ranjana. He swiftly tried to grab Ranjana's big arm, but he couldn't because it was too big to hold. Finally he grabbed her wrist."Let go! Let go of me! I'd rather die than not be able to marry you!""What are you doing? Don't be a fool to end your life in such a ridiculous way!" Praveen shouted with difficulty dragging Ranjana. But the huge body didn't move at all. Ranjana continued to struggle and the muddy water splashed down her head and Praveen's head. With all his strength Praveen dragged her out and she struggled even more trying to get out of Praveen's grip and desperately threw herself into the water and made her drowning. Praveen was panic. He tried to lift her up, but the body was so heavy. It's like lifting a hippo
"Hey, why do you look like a drowned rat? Did you fall into the river or something?" asked Auntie Neha seeing Praveen coming home bedraggled. Praveen ignored her, just went to the room to get a towel and change of clothes. In the living room the spinster auntie still waiting for him. Ten minutes passed, her nephew had not yet come out of the bathroom behind the house. Actually this afternoon he had taken a shower but the incident earlier, he had to take a bath again."Praveen, I want to talk to you," she said when Praveen had come out of the bathroom.Praveen stopped his steps and looked back at his aunt with a surprised look."Auntie, what do you want to talk about?""Someone was here looking for you this afternoon. A woman named Ranjana. I said you were out.""I've met her," Praveen replied curtly."So then she looked for you all the way to the riverside field?""Yes.""Who's she? Is she your lover?" Aunt Neha asked for an explanation."My lover?" Praveen raised his eyebrows."She
Meanwhile, far away in Mumbai, Sunil Chakraborty still could not accept the reality of what had happened. He was angry, but did not know how to vent his anger. Why did all this come to light? This must be the result of Roohan's failure, the man he had assigned to eliminate Praveen. If only he had succeeded, it would have been a different story. That man would have rotted at the bottom of the river! He had paid Roohan. He had to take responsibility for this failure! He should not deny it like that day, at least he should get his reward!Sunil still felt his chest burning with emotion. He would teach Roohan a lesson! He immediately left the house. But his steps stopped when Amaneesh stopped him."Where are you going?""I have some business to finish!""No! You stay home for now! Let me take care of everything!""No, Dad!" said Sunil, ignoring his father's words. He continued walking towards his car and soon the car was out of the garage.Amaneesh was furious, but could not do anything.
The afternoon was approaching. The Balinese bridal make-up artist had finished dressing Zoya. She seemed satisfied with her work.“It’s done. You can look in the mirror now!” said her with a smile.Zoya turned her body slowly to face the large mirror not far from her and was immediately stunned. Is that really her?She looked very different wearing a typical Balinese bridal kebaya in maroon and decorated with gold thread embroidery. Her head was decorated with a majestic floral metal crown that was also gold in color. Both of her wrists wore gold color bracelets. Prada songket cloth with a color that matched the kebaya she was wearing further enhanced her appearance. The make-up on her face was not striking so that her beautiful face looked even more beautiful. She stared at her reflection in the mirror for a long time, not expecting it to be herself. However, she had a little difficulty moving her head because the crown was quite heavy, around three kg.She convinced herself that she
The Balinese woman looked so graceful in the traditional dress. She wore a short white kebaya with a silver Prada cloth with a floral motif. Her black hair was pulled up into a bun. She was around mid-thirties and spoke fluent English.“So you two will be married with Balinese customs and rituals?”“Yes, of course. I have longed to marry with Balinese rituals. It just so happens that India and Bali have similarities,” Zoya explained. She smiled and looked at the two of them alternately. There was a sense of amazement in her eyes. The girl looked beautiful and the man was so handsome. They both looked so harmonious, especially later when they wear Balinese traditional clothes. Of course it would be even more charming. She had served quite a lot of clients who were about to get married, and most of them were Westerners, but this time she met a unique client from India.Judging from their appearance, they were not from just anyone. If not the upper class, then they must be public figures
Zoya and Praveen had landed in Bali three hours ago and now they had checked in at a resort in the Seminyak region. Zoya had made a reservation before so they didn't have to bother booking a hotel.Praveen didn't expect to go this far. This was the first time in his life he saw the outside world directly. It never even crossed his mind to be on this island of the gods. Not for leisure pursuit but to get married! No! He didn't feel tired after a long journey, in fact when he set foot in Ngurah Rai Airport his chest was still beating fast. Since leaving India, he felt like he entered a new world.Uncertain? Alienated? No! He didn't feel lost as long as Zoya was by his side. She gave him energy and determination so strong that he was a man who could overcome all obstacles. He had passed the biggest obstacle perfectly, taking away the lover he loved so much to escape from the one-sided match made by her parents.Coming out of the airport he was already fascinated by the pleasant atmospher
“What’s wrong? What are you guys talking about in there?” Sunil asked curiously.Stupid kid!If there were no other people around, Amaneesh would have slapped him. But he held back his anger so as not to raise further suspicion.“Come on, go home! I want to talk to you at home!”“Just tell me here now. I want to know!” Sunil said curiously.Amaneesh shook his head. He saw several of his subordinates standing looking at him in surprise.“You guys go back to the office now! We’ll talk later!”His subordinates took a respectful position,“Yes, sir!” said them.Sunil couldn’t accept it, he just walked briskly into Narendra’s room and opened the door,“What are you talking about with my father, Mr. Narendra?!” he asked loudly.Narendra was sitting on the sofa realizing the mistake he had made. Seeing Sunil act like that, his disgust surfaced again, he really didn’t want to see the young man’s face again.“Just ask your father! From now on I don’t want to see anymore! Get out of my room now
Rajesh Kumar was cheered. He quickly got up and half ran out to his car. In less than half an hour he was at the cafe that Narendra usually visited.Apparently Rajesh had arrived first. Narendra was not there yet. He immediately took a seat in the corner of the cafe and ordered a drink. Not long, finally Narendra appeared alone. He entered with brisk steps and sat across from Rajesh.“How are you, sir! Long time no see!” he said, starting the conversation.Narendra ignored him and went straight to the point.“Why did you tell me this now? Why?”“Because this is the best time to reveal everything!”“No! It’s too late!”“Not for me!”“Where did you get that evidence?” asked Narendra.Rajesh then explained in as much detail as possible.Narendra Prasadh listened with an angry expression. How could a police officer do something bad to get his personal desires and the police officer was… his future son-in-law? Truly, he had been deceived!“Your daughter has found a suitable man as her life
Two investigators came to see Mr. Amaneesh that night. They brought very important news.“We have checked the immigration data at the airport and got the names we are looking for, Sir! It turns out that Miss Zoya and Praveen Jayachandran took a flight abroad. They managed to escape to Singapore!” said a police officer named Sukhdev excitedly. His other colleague nodded in agreement.“That’s right! They left at 4:10 in the morning, and this data has been matched with the airline passenger manifest!”“They fled abroad?” said Amaneesh as if in disbelief. He did not know whether this was good or bad news because if this was true, their pursuit would be more difficult unless they asked for help from Interpol. But was it possible, considering that they were not criminals or perpetrators of crimes that harmed the country?Nothing is impossible. He could have used his authority as the Mumbai police chief.“What else did you get?”“That’s it. I think this is a very important clue, so I reporte
There were no significant results of the investigation even though Amaneesh had ordered many of his personnel. Some were ordered to Dharavi, some to modeling agencies, and advertising agencies and more to guard the borders. But none of them yielded results.Towards evening, Mrs. Fateema was even more shocked to see Sunil and his men arrive at her house. They interrogated her again, even though previously in Doorna she had been visited by the police asking about Praveen's whereabouts. Of course she did not know where he was. Since Zoya's identity was revealed, he had never been there again. What shocked her the most how Sunil knew where she lives?"Don't try to hide something from me, Mrs. Fateema!" said Sunil intimidatingly."Why would I hide him whereabouts, Sir! I have no idea at all. Since Ashita, I mean... Miss Zoya is no longer in Doorna, he has also never come again! Especially since he started to become famous!"“You don’t know where he lives?”“I don’t know exactly! But he sa
The wedding ceremony that was planned to take place this morning really ended in a mess, even though the hotel had made good preparations. The hall had been neatly arranged, both the stage and the arrangement of chairs and tables for the guests. Decorations full of flowers were already available. So was the catering. But all that was in vain because the bride ran away.Approaching 10 o'clock, the hall was actually quiet. Guests who did not know and had already come were not allowed to enter the building. The hotel was closed to guests.Of course, many guests were shocked, not expecting the party to be canceled. Not a few were disappointed because they had already come.In connection with being closed, Narendra's family could not hide their shame. This was the first time in his life he felt humiliated, not by someone else, but by his own child. Was there a wrong decision that made his daughter choose to run away rather than follow his wishes? But what was wrong? Isn't it his duty as a
