"Hey there, pal! Has your flight arrived in New York?" Just after I emerged from a lengthy surgical procedure, I talked to my best friend on call. As usual, the hospital was inundated with patients and crises, and as usual, I was engrossed in treating them to the point that I neglected to arrange for my driver to get my friend from the airport. He and I have had our respective hectic schedules over the past year, so we haven't seen each other For the past year.
"Regarding that, I know I said I would see you, buddy, but something came up. Because one of my comrades was injured in combat and is unable to continue the operation, I have been ordered to fill in for him." In a low, remorseful voice, he informs and continues, “As much as I want to meet you, I can’t, and hope you are going to understand. Duty calls. I became a soldier to serve this country and to dedicate myself in protecting its people, and by refusing to attend the mission, I feel like I am doing wrong to my country and its citizens.”
“Oh, so it means you are not coming?” I asked in an upset tone as I looked forward to meeting him. Zacharias and I have been childhood best friends and studied until high school together until he decided to join the army and I decided to become a surgeon. In a way, we both are serving our country and its citizens so I understand what he is referring to.
“But, don’t worry. I understand because if I was in your position, I would have done the same. Take care of yourself and don’t die on me. You have promised to meet me, dude, and it’s not just me, who was looking after to meet you today.” I said, with a genuine smile taking over my face. When I said that, I heard Zacharias sigh and speak.
“I know, which is the biggest reason why I am feeling so sad right now.” He answered “ I miss her, Nicholas. I miss her so much and want to be there for her, but it’s just I can’t ignore my duty. I know what I was signing up for when I joined the army.” His tone was sad, as he spoke about his biggest weakness in his life, well, not just his weakness but my weakness too, but she doesn’t know that “I promised Juliet that I would be coming to celebrate her birthday this year, but like always I have failed her by not being there.”
As soon, as he mentions and takes the name of his beautiful sister, I got lost as I remembered her beautiful blue eyes, long black hair, milky white skin, a perfect body of a goddess, and damn, just by thinking of her, and her perfect body I was getting hard in my pants and if that wasn’t enough, my thoughts took me to the one beautiful mistake that she and I made three years ago, the mistake of sleeping with one another on the night of her birthday when we both got drunk, only to wake up regretting the very next day.
She might have regretted that beautiful night, but I didn’t. Why? Because since the day, she turned sixteen, I began to build feelings for her inside of me, and by the time she turned eighteen I had already fallen head over heels in love with her but I was scared of confessing my feelings to her without breaking my friendship with Zacharias and his trust. Zacharias trusted me the most with his sister, and I couldn’t break that trust, no matter how madly I was in love with his sister.
“Juliet is a smart and understanding woman, so I am sure she will understand and besides no one is proud of you like your baby sister is of you.” I comforted him.
“I know, man. It’s just when I called her half an hour ago, she felt upset, and her voice was weak and broken like she had been crying.” Zach informs, and just with the mention of her crying, I was on my feet, ready to go and see for myself if she was safe or not.
She moved to New York one year ago when she got the job and since then I have been keeping an eye on her, she doesn’t know that, but I always do. Yeah, we had sex, but it was only once, three years ago. We decided to forget about it and move on without letting Zach know about it. I don’t know if she has forgotten about that night, but I am sure I haven’t as that beautiful night, hunts me every night in my dream.
“What? Did you ask her what happened?” I asked, worried as I made my way out of the hospital.
“I asked but she wouldn’t tell. Something tells me that her asshole of a boyfriend has hurt her. I don’t like that bastard. I swear I want to kill him with my own hands, and I would have if it wasn’t for Juliet being madly in love with him. Why can’t she see that man doesn’t deserve her?” Zach growls on the other side of the phone. I heard some murmurs in the background when he said.
“Listen, I am getting late. I need to get going right now. I have called to ask you for a favor. You know I don’t trust anyone when it comes to Juliet except for you. I swear if I was there I wouldn’t have been asking you for this, but while I am away on this mission, can you please look after my baby sister? I don’t know why, but I am having a strange feeling in my heart like something isn’t right.” He said out of concern and fear in his voice.
“Don’t worry, you go and protect our country. This country needs patriotic soldiers like you. I give you my word that I will look after her. I am just heading to her place right now to make sure that she is doing alright.” I said, breathing heavily because by this time I was running.
“Thanks, man. I knew I could count on you. Talk to you later. Bye.” Zacharias hung up. I was just about to step my foot out of the hospital exit, when an ambulance pulled up, with a paramedic team steering a wounded yet beautiful woman on the stretcher. The woman was bleeding from several places with really serious injuries. When I looked at the woman closely, I stopped dead in my tracks because that woman was none other than my Juliet. The woman I just promised Zack, to protect and look after while he is away.
“Help! It’s an emergency. The case of an accident. The patient’s vital is dropping quickly.” One of the paramedics announced with a terrified look on my face and my pulse racing from fright, I sprinted over to the paramedics who were carrying Juliet inside and shoved them aside.
"Get ready for the surgery immediately!!" I yell out instructions. "We have to do surgery immediately or she's going to die."
Juliet Carrington:-I was out doing some grocery shopping and running errands with my security team, of course, since Nicholas, Zach, or Chyrs won't let me go alone. I was in the fresh produce section when I felt someone place something sharp behind my back, making me gasp when I felt the familiar smell of the cologne.Jared.I looked around to alert my security team, or signal them with my eyes, when Jared leaned close to my ear and whispered."Don't you dare try to be clever or signal your bodyguards, or I will pierce the dagger right in your heart from behind, and then we are going to see if you make it out alive and head back to your husband and children." he threatened, pressuring the tip of the dagger against my upper back to let me know he wasn't bluffing."You're not going to make it out alive from here, so it would be better if you surrender yourself," I tell him, and he heard me chuckle and said."Follow me out to the parking lot silently, and calmly as if everything is fine
Nicholas Carrington:-"Jule....Juliet...where....where is Juliet?" I woke up with my wife's name on my mouth, needing to see her face, "Need to see Juliet."The room was dark, with only the monitors comforting them with their low not-bright light and the slight streak of daylight shining through the blinds. My throat was burning, my body was aching everywhere, and my chest was like it was struck by a truck, which, luckily, was close to the truth. I attempted to move, when I felt a sudden aching down my ribs. Tubes and wires pulled against my skin keeping me like chains invisible.Juliet, I said, again, more wretchedly. I was hoarse and cracked and hardly audible, but that was all I could think of. I needed her. Her voice, her touch, her smell, anything that would be able to remind me that I was alive and that she was safe. Some nurse rushed away at the corner, and I have a feeling that her eyes were large when she realized I was awake. "Dr. Carrington? You're awake. Don't try to move,
Juliet Carrington:-I sat, prayed, and sobbed while waiting for Nick's surgery to finish. This whole time, only I knew what pain and agony I was going through, what my heart was feeling, as if I heard any bad news about losing my husband, I would die right here, and right now."Mrs. Carrington," I heard the masculine voice of the door speak."Doctor," I instantly stood up, with hope in my eyes., Zach and Chrysander were instantly by my side, for the same news and hope. "How is my husband?""The surgery was successful. "We managed to save Dr. Carrington," the doctor said, with a calm, yet assertive voice. The world suddenly ceased to spin. The breath came back in through my lungs in relief. I felt like my legs were nearly giving way, and Zach grabbed me by the shoulders before I fell.Thank God, I said, and put a shaking hand to my chest. "Can I see him? I have to see my husband, please. The doctor sighed softly. "You will be allowed soon, but not much longer than a few minutes. He is
Juliet Carrington:-After one month.I was heading to the shower after putting the twins to sleep for their nap. After a lot of convincing, Nicholas finally agreed to hire the nanny since he needed to go to the hospital. His patients needed his emergency assistance, so, as every other day, he left for the hospital to check on and perform surgery on them.Just as I was about to step inside the bathroom, I watched Chrysander and my brother enter the room after a light knock. Their expressions were full of worry as they looked at me, making my heart sink instantly, and fear took over me because I knew whatever they were about to tell, wasn't good."What....What happened? Why are you both looking at me like that?" I asked when Zach reached forward to hold me before announcing the bad news."Juliet, my baby sister. I need you to be strong and calm when I tell you this," he murmurs softly, preparing me before giving the news."Nicholas....where is Nicholas?" I asked, "Where is my husband?"
Juliet Diaz:-I looked at my husband, stressed and tried. He hasn't slept a wink in the last forty-eight hours, and that is beginning to concern me. He is going to pass out and get sick if he continues like this. He needs rest to function and find the bastard Jared, who is still hiding in the shadows and playing the game of hide and seek, but at a dangerous level."Nick, can you please come to the bed and lie down with me for at least two or three hours. You know I can't sleep without your arms wrapped around me. The twins are finally asleep, and I want to rest." I made that up about my rest because I know if I say he needs to rest, he won't, but when I put it on myself, he would leave everything and be by my side instantly.Just as I had expected, it did. When I told Nicholas that I could not sleep without him, his eyes seemed to be softer, and the furrow on his brow seemed to relax slightly. He didn't even argue this time. He kicked off his shoes with a deep breathing, threw his jac
Nicholas Carrington:-I was standing up against the door frame of our bedroom, just watching, with my arms crossed. The afternoon sun had penetrated the curtains and was falling warmly on the room in a golden light. Juliet was sitting against a heap of pillows with her hair hanging about her face, weary yet beautiful, as she suckled our baby. Rhea was seated across her, and was rocking our son, with the practised ease of a lullaby-humming to the infant, of which she alone had known the meaning. It was the kind of silent time that was unreal. All that had occurred, including the menaces, the hysteria, the terror, it all seemed somehow like a long-dreamed-of dream I did not want to bring myself to wake.Rhea happened to see me standing there and smiled knowingly. "This is something you have to get used to, Nick. Now, your entire world revolves around them."I laughed inwardly and went deeper into the room. "Trust me, I already know."Juliet raised her eyes to me, with the little, sleepy
