“So we really need your help, and I know, apart from the mafia stuff, you are against people like Barlow who harm innocent civilians just for the fun of it,” I explained, trying to keep my focus despite the intrusive thought of cradling his lap and inhaling his intoxicating scent.

God save me.

“My people are already trying to protect the civilians. Somehow, they trust us more than the police,” he mocked, making me look down at my proposal and nod in reluctant agreement.

I couldn’t even deny that. We lived in a world where people often thought the mafia’s justice was fairer than the judicial system.

“I know, and I agree. But there are thousands of reports filed in all the precincts as well. We want to help these people, but we have no information. We really need your help,” I pleaded, though I could tell he wasn’t convinced and might send me home empty-handed.

“Doll, you can send them here, and I’ll help them out. But helping the police out is a bit of a gray area for us,
