“Are you sure you can sleep alone in your room, Sierra?” Callie asked while hugging Sierra from the side.

Axton watched them and sat on the sofa near the window—allowing Callie to lie down with Sierra in her bed after dinner.

“Alright, I’ll go back to my room. But remember, you can call me if you need anything. I’ll also ask a maid to stand by near your room so you can call them,” Callie said as she got out of bed.

“I’m just going to sleep, Callie. I don’t need a maid.”

Callie sighed, “Alright, no maid then.” she concluded.

Axton put his phone into his pocket and immediately followed Callie to Sierra’s room door.

“What are you doing?” Callie furrowed her brow.

Axton stopped with confusion. “What?”

“Stay here, Axton. Why are you following me?” Callie asked.

Axton saw the change in her face, and her gaze was full of sadness.

“Callie,” he murmured, reaching for his wife’s hand—trying to change her mind.

“Stay here, and don’t forget to lock the door,” Callie said, turning quickly and closing the door before Axton could catch up.

Axton stood there, staring at the closed door of Sierra’s room. He knew he couldn’t leave after Callie's decision, and unfortunately, he also knew what her intentions were.

When he turned his head, Sierra was staring at him with the same expression, and Axton had no idea what to do.

“I’ll ask someone to fix it again. I think it’s better if you sleep in another room for now,” he said, holding Sierra’s arm. “Do you want me to take you to Callie’s room?”

“Yes,” she looked up, “I really need to go to the bathroom.”

After hearing Sierra’s response, Axton immediately opened the door to help her walk to Callie’s room. Actually, it would have been easier if he carried her, but he felt like he couldn’t do that now, as his mother might see them, and he didn’t want that to happen.

Sierra nodded and immediately turned to walk into her room with a limp that seemed painful. Just before the door closed, his mother stepped forward and stopped her. “Leave us, Axton,” she said, staring straight at Sierra.

“Mom,” Axton gave his mother a warning look. “Can you just talk to me? I’ll explain everything if you need an explanation.”

“Sierra, can we talk?” His mother ignored Axton and grabbed Sierra’s wrist as she stood at the door.

“Don’t do this, Mom. This is just a misunderstanding. You’ve misunderstood, and I will explain it to you,” Axton touched his mother’s arm, but she pulled away harshly.

His mom looked at him with disappointment, then turned back to look at Sierra, who was still standing quietly in place. “I want to talk to you, Sierra. And I don’t think I need permission to enter your room because this is the house of my son and daughter-in-law. But I do want to ask you. Do you allow me to come into your room?”
