Shapeshifters, humans had written tales and myths about shapeshifters. Most tales are complete fibers like the sexual depicting of sirens, many had written them sexual beings, others even portray them as similar to mermaid, they could not be more wrong.
Well, the are other truths about shapeshifters I have read in books, the most common one is how a shapeshifter’s life partner is decided for them by destiny, otherwise named mates. Annoying system I know, but it is more annoying when your mate is a different spice from you, I know of a story of a werewolf mated to a mermaid, or that one witches mating with vampires.
Mating in between races goes down centuries that purebloods are rare. Pure blood is most common with the royal family of said race.
“This is a jackpot not only did we catch mermaids we found the rarest siren.”
Running away from home was not the cleverest idea, well it is father who made me angry, angry enough for me to leave our home, submerged under the water, where us sirens live.
“I thought they were supposed to be sexy; I never knew sirens where this ugly and scaly. Even mermaids are better.”
Ugh how dare these traffickers compare us to that specimen of cowards, mermaids were also endangered like us, but us unlike most shapeshifters live underwater for protection, but mermaids are always getting caught, pretty dumb like their king.
“They say it is their voices and their blood that is valuable.” One of the men said, I roll my eyes, how naïve are they, they just caught their own death willingly. I do not have to pity them. “His majesty the second prince would be very happy with our new catch.”
“Hi,” that was my first words, a simple hi is enough to make these dumb fools be under my spell, I can tell them to get me out of the net or jump of the ship to kill themselves, I watch as these obedient fools gather in front of me.
The other merfolk seems to be mesmerized too; it would be nice to show them how different sirens are to mermaids.
“This is the last time you will catch a siren.” I say, taking off the net was quite easy, it melts quickly with my scales.
And the effortless way to die is not what I aim for, I want to show them why sirens are feared, why they should not mess with me especially, the one and only princess of sirens.
With one smile I continue to sharpen my teeth before biting one of the men’s neck off, yes, we are brutal creatures. The other men seem to have snap out of the illusion my voice enchanted them in. but it will never stop me, stop me from biting their necks off and watching them scream and shiver in agony.
“Ha ha ha ha …... they are so pathetic.
“Your majesty you needed not to do that, you could have just compelled them to let us go.”
One of the only sirens caught, Ophelia says, the little protection my father said I needed. I do not hate Ophelia, she is cute and highly organized and most importantly she is really strong, she is a bit too morally disciplined, but she adjusts well when she is around me.
“Oh, Lia should not worry about me, I am okay.”
“Your Majesty, one of the men mention a second prince, it is clear this is a royal family ship.”
“And?”
“We can start a war with attacking the other royal family.”
“So? We can take them.”
“We cannot afford a war, many of our species would be killed.”
“But we will win, wouldn’t we?”
“No one wins in a war Your majesty.”
I roll my eyes again, fine she might be right, but it is not like I attacked a prince or princess. Besides, they started it by kidnapping our people.
“Um… thank you” one of the mermaids kidnapped speak.
“Ah... it is nothing her majesty is happy to help, besides, she was saving herself as well.” Ophelia says before smiling to compel everyone to forget us before they jump to see to return to their homes.
“We should go too.” She says, “your majesty you should not change into human form, we are returning to sea.”
“Ugh, come on Lia, let's have some fun, look there at those lights, we will be only there for a few hours.”
“Avisa please just do this once for me, let us return home, I will tell his majesty it was my fault we got kidnapped.”
Avisa Aqua Photim, his majesty Kyrtos Photim’s only daughter, with the beauty of her mother but the nasty attitude of her father. Ophelia’s worst nightmare but also the best thing in her life.
“Come on Lia, lets live a little, I have never set foot on land my entire life.”
Avisa’s words are cut short when they hear steps entering the ship. Even though they had anchored the ship for a few moments people did not seem to want to approach the boat.
“Hide, now” Ophelia tells Avisa, she already knows unlike the men they had killed, the approaching two are not to be taken lightly.
Vampires, one of the races Avisa hates passionately since she remembers her mother’s bloodless body that submerged, those bloodsuckers had drunk her mother dry.
It was two men, they had dressed formally, they wore shiny black shoes and black suits, one had a white shirt, and the other wore a black shirt.
“Can’t we just attack these bloody bloodsuckers?” Avisa whispers, “they were trafficking us, let us get our revenge.”
“You cannot just kill them carelessly; they could be royal.” Ophelia lies, she knows they are royal, she heard the other man call the scary tall man in the black shirt your majesty.
“Ugh, fine I will stay put.”
But they could not stay put, because after something fall where they were hiding the two men were in front of them before they could hide again.
“Hi,” Avisa had thought on her feet to compel them before they could attack them.
“Sleep.” She says, but only one of the men had done what he was told, the other men stood there, looking at them with a menacing glare, his canines already showing.
“Damnit…” he cursed, but Avisa was one to always think on her feet she had already hit the man on his head before he could so anything.
“Ugh... that was close, let me compel him while he is unconscious.” Avisa scoffed, she hated how she had to do extra work because these d*mn vampires could mind their business and assume the sound must have happened because of the wind.
The man’s grey eyes had looked at her with so much contempt that he fell unconscious, she had hissed in fear for the first time, danger, he was danger itself. She had felt her skin crawl with both anger and fear, a man that brought fear in her the fear even her father could not.
They had left the ship soon after leave the two man out cold on the floor, and to Ophelia’s dismay the had went offshore. Metropolis, a city of opportunity they call, a city a certain siren princess is about to mess her life up at.
He had lived his life in agony and fear, a vampire who had a target on his back from birth all because of a title. The crown prince, son to the vampire king and his late queen, he had lived to be a ruthless man because of this cruel world, he was not born a man he is. Dean Stoker, the crown prince, the man known for his temper and cruel nature. Though his little half-brother and stepmother had always been the source of his problems all the time, this time he had an even bigger problem, his mate. He had wished to never find a mate in his life, but fate seem to want to turn him into an even more vile man that he already is. In the back of his neck lay his biggest problem yet, the mark that keeps growing, the mark that ignites pain every morning, those blue scales. "Your majesty, a ship was spotted in the harbor, it must be the second prince again." His friend and partner Holden chimes, though it did not stop the mark from furiously soring it made him focus on his other problem. "He is
“How is this possible Lia? he is not supposed to remember.” She shouts as she struggles to break free from Dean’s arm, “is it because he is some royal highness?” “This quite a brutal scene you have created little siren.” “Do not call me that you bloodsucker let me go.” She glares at him with her deep blue eyes, he had never submerged under the ocean but somehow, he felt like her eyes symbolized the beauty of that is under the sea. “Ugh… let me go.” She struggles, before she swings her free hand, he knows this too well, he is not getting knocked out cold again, he catches her other hand. “You should behave little siren, I just want to talk,” he says, “at least for now, first let us apologize for the incident this morning, and by us, I mean you.” “Huh. How overconfident, let me go your highness, she might care about your status, but I do not I do not mind biting your head off right now.” She says shifting into her siren form, mesmerizing sight, her blue scales shined so beautifully
Though she was still confident, she had a hint of fear, enough for her to avoid the queen’s gaze. “What do you want Briar?” Penelope asks angrily, she had lived peaceful after that fateful day, and now this woman threatens her. “I want my daughter as the next queen, I do not know how her majesty would do it, but I believe you are capable.” She Briar Arnold answers confidently, she and Penelope were on the same boat, they were two greedy women who would do anything for power, and she need not to be embarrassed about her greediness as she felt Penelope was the greediest. “How bold of you to claim to kill the previous queen without a single hint of remorse.” “But her majesty killed her only friend for a throne.” Briar speaks, “does she has the right to act nobler than me? We are both wicked women and have no right to act higher than thee.” Penelope had busted into a laughter at Briar’s words, her confidence seems to amaze her, she had always known Briar Arnold to be a dumb woman ev
“Your majesty, we have looked everywhere, I don’t think there are sirens.” Holden reports for the fifth time this week, he had been tasked with the search of a certain siren that attacked Dean, but it seems there is no way to be found. “Also, it seems the queen and second prince has stopped their mermaid kidnapping.” “Is that so I wonder what that woman is up to now.” Dean sighs, he knows his stepmother well enough, she is the woman that gaslighted him into killing thousands at a tender age of 10. “And the new alpha for the Crescent pack is here to see you.” Holden says before holding his breath for an outburst, wolves and vampires we natural enemies but Dean Stoker and Arnoux Crescent were a different type of enemies. Arnoux Crescent was always known as the alpha of his pack from the first time he breath the oxygen in this earth just like how Dean was a crown prince from birth. And with Arnoux’s mother's relationship with the late vampire queen, Dean grew close to Arnoux, and the
“What the hell is that Arnoux?” Dean yells angrily. “My mate marks.” Arnoux sighs buttoning his shirt, “well that is what the warlock told me at least.” “But you found your mate already, that is why you became alpha of the pack.” Dean said. “No, my father had already made a plan on how he was going to fool everyone into thinking I am already mated.” Arnoux says, “glad it worked, anyway tell me where you found your mate and help me find mine.” “Are out of your mind do you know what can happen to you if they find out?” Dean speaks angrily, though he and Arnoux did not get along he still cared for him, well a little bit. “Relax there, you found your mate, what is stopping me from doing so?” Arnoux says nonchalantly, “I am here to get help not get scolded.” Though Holden was heavily hurt by this new development he was still happy to see the two friends care for each other. “I don’t even know who my mate is Arnoux, I don’t know where I met her.” Dean shouts, he was angry, angry at Ar
“I swear mother I don’t remember anything.” Dean’s youthful drowsy voice can be heard in echoes, a little 10-year boy made to shoulder the burden older than him. “You killed the Crescent pack’s Luna that is what you did, how ruthless of you.” Penelope scolds, the little vampire who stood next to a lifeless body, “did the tittle make you feel so unstoppable enough to kill the Luna?” “I didn’t, I didn’t do it, I swear.” Young Dean cries. Penelope had called the guards to drag him to the dungeon, “make sure he is locked in tight; we have many guests, we don’t want this ruthless animal to kill any more of our guest.” Penelope chimes with a smirk on her face. “Your majesty?” Holden shouted for the second time, he ran to Dean’s room as soon as he heard screams and groans. With the third call Dean had woken from his nightmare, his body drenched with sweat with both his pants and shirt drizzling droplets of his sweat and gasping with every breath. “Get me some water.” He tells Holden in
Holden had liked Anne for a long time, well since they met when they were just 12 years old, but he had already known she was too obsessed with Dean to give him the time he needed. He had given up long ago that she will never be his, but look how cruel fate is, he is now stuck with some dumb mate bond that linked him to the woman who will never love nor respect him.“Ah……” Holden screams as loud as he can, not with anger but with sadness, he is going to have to wake up early next morning and work with the very man that keeps his mate’s heart. The next morning, he had woken up rather late, later than Dean who had knocked at his door when he woke up.“Good morning your majesty.” Holden says softly.“What happened?” Dean asks, “you have been sulking since our last hunt.”“I… well… It is nothing, I am just not having a good day that is all.”He knew Dean suspected something, after all they had been friends long enough for them to know when the other was not having a good day.“Good mornin
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the wonders of the world, where you get sweet beautiful mermaids at low price.” The commentator says, “unfortunately we do not have many mermaids today, we still have sweet little women to appease you, and a special main event.” The auction starts, though many complained about not getting mermaids they still opened their filthy wallets. “And now the main event, a special little wonder,” the commentator says opening the box to show the little scared elf, “come on sweet it your time to shine” he whispers to her tugging her to stand. “Let me demonstrate,” he says calling some men to come with swords in their hands, “let me show you a little trick,” The men swing their swords slashing her and she screams in pain and agony, they stopped, and after a few seconds her blood stopped all together, and all her wounds heal mysteriously. “Yes, just like those vampire sweets you just bought, this wonder can heal magical too, and what is the plus
[Avisa’s POV]Shock. I cannot make out what Dean was thinking, but I could feel the anger he felt. This stupid mate bond, I had felt the hate he felt when Anne hugged him, his anxiety when I left the room.He always acted like he had no emotions, but this man had so many emotions.Emotions I myself was having trouble handling.“What did you say?” he growled, “what did Penelope do to my mother?”Anne was filled with shock, “I…. I…… I was just trying to get a rise out of her.”“Don’t lie to me Anne, what did the queen do to my mother?” This mates sharing emotions thing doesn’t sit well with me.“I…... I…...”I rolled my eyes at her sorry state, she must be lying to make me angry, but still, she could be telling the truth.“What happened to the previous queen?” I whispered my compelling words, one of the best features of being a siren.Vampires couldn’t compel other vampires and mates could compel mates, but sirens could compel anyone with their voices. She started blabbing about how the
[Dean’s POV]A war? This time? What is that evil witch thinking?“Okay Aloe, breathe have some water,” Avisa is busy calming the elf girl down.Wars are not foreign to shapeshifters; we have had our fair share of wars. But it was said that wars were banned after the end of the blood war, the Goddess had restored peace to all shapeshifters.Every shapeshifter has been given their own place where they need not cross over to the other territory, thus preventing wars.“What do you mean they want to start a war? There is no species that has angered vampires since every shapeshifter is in their designated area.”“Don’t yell at her,” my sweet mate growls. I am never going to get used to her being this casual with me.But was this casual? I still did kill her mother and she hasn’t even asked me about it.How? Everyone knew her mother was the most powerful being in all the oceans. Why? She doesn’t think I am a cold-blooded killer, does she?“Well, the queen said they want power, and to get pow
[Avisa’s POV]Was this some sort of joke? What did I just do? Why did I even do that?My father’s back was now against me, he was getting ready to leave the room.He wants to kill him. I know my father hates this union so much he would kill my mate here. And I am supposed to hate him, I do hate him, I hate this man.“Are you okay,” Dean’s voice rings, his grey eyes shining with nothing but sincerity.“You killed my mother, and now I am stuck with you for life. How do you think I feel?”“I asked you Avisa!” he yells, “ I asked you if you were serious about us bonding and you said yes.”His voice now gentle and delicate, “I…… what did you want me to do, Dean? You are my mate.”He looks at me both angry and confused, “the same thing we agreed to do.”“Wow, so you wanted to reject me so you can go mate with that Anne chick?”The way I pounced on him probably confirmed what my father has always talked about.Greed, I was a greedy woman, “you are mine Dean Stoker, you hear me,” I growled at
[Third person POV]The waves roared and the seas cried. It was unheard of. In all their lives, this was an abomination.“What? The princess is mated to the man who killed her father?”“That unruly princess! Surely, she is no longer fit to be heir.”Elder sirens complained when the news that the princess had found her mate, may rejoiced. The man or woman was supposed to keep her grounded, keep her from her rebellious ways. But it seems the kingdom was doomed from the moment she was born.“Aran is still going to be king; he is strong and very mature.”“You think the king will allow that? That man who can’t see his daughter is nothing but a bad pimple to this kingdom.”“She should stay with the vampires; she clearly fits the criteria.”But if the princess is not to take the throne, who will? Many didn’t trust Aran was strong enough after the humiliation he suffered recently. They had never had a weak ruler, even the previous empresses were strong, and the current king, who was the first
[Third person POV]Metropolis, a city with dreams and secrets, a city burying a lot of history, history that has suddenly started glowing as a new historical event is about to happen.“Princess Adelina, the roots of the dead tree are glowing,” a distraught cry enlightens the enchanted forest. For the first time in a thousand years, the tree that was deemed dead after the blood war has awakened.“What? Why? What is the Goddess thinking?” all the elderly mythical shapeshifters of the enchanted forest grumble.“What is going on? Why did the dead tree glow?” the fairy princess asks.“It is to prepare for blood shed,” one of the elders said, “it also prepares for the death of a kingdom.”The princess is both bewildered and terrified, though shapeshifters in the enchanted forest are more mythical creatures than they are shapeshifters, and they rarely go to wars and their kingdom is never challenged. It was worrisome, because though it was brief, she befriended Avisa, who went on to rescue h
[Third person POV] Dylan rushes to the king’s office, today seems to be gearing up to be a bit more chaotic than usual. “Your Majesty, a word,” Dylan says. “We are busy here mage, you will have a word with him later,” Kyrtos interjected. “But your majesties, this concerns both of your kingdoms,” Dylan says. “What is it, Dylan?” “Well, the prince and princess have mated,” the sudden silence that hits, it is clearly the calm before a storm. Kyrtos could feel his blood boil, this is not how he thought this would go. He knew his daughter was one to hold grudges, she would have killed Dean the moment he gotten close to her. “How?” he asks in disbelief, “how is that possible, they were busy fighting just now.” “I am not sure how myself because they had told me they would reject each other during the blood moon,” Dylan says, he is trying to act shocked. But if he is being honest, he is not surprised they bonded, he is just surprised they took that long to do so. When the Goddess pa
[Third person POV]A mate is one of the most important things in the shapeshifter world, those who never met their mates go on to wander the world with lost souls as their mates are supposed to complete them. Those who meet their mates are lucky, especially if they are of a different race, because after the blood war, many shapeshifters went into hiding refusing to meet their mates and wandering lost in the world. When two mates meet, and agree on mating, the two would mark each other before being intimate.“Avisa!” Dean moaned, trying his best to restrain himself. This is not what she wants, he knows very well this isn’t what she wants, he cannot bond with her, it would be unfair to do so.But Avisa’s manner of testing his self-control and patience seemed to be working overtime this instant. The way she moaned his name like it was the only thing she knew, “you don’t want this,” he whispers to
[Dean’s POV] Fate sure was funny, the way her voiced cracked as she asks me, the way her prideful face falls in sadness when I confirm I had indeed killed her mother. I now understand why she hated it when I spoke of the queen, I didn’t even protect myself when she attacked me. “Fight back!” she screams, her beautiful eyes filled with tears, her whole body had adorned in beautiful blues scales, scales I used to hate when they were attached to me. Her sharp fingernails cutting into my flesh effortlessly, but it didn’t hurt, it didn’t hurt because I had already experienced the most hurtful thing when I found out my soulmate was deprived of a wonderful mother because of me. “Fight back! You are the all-powerful vampire prince, fight back,” she screams, everyone had stopped to look, no one wanted to intervene, rightfully so this is between me and my mate. “I don’t have the right to,” I calmly say making her angrier, releasing and even a greater wrath unto my skin, she had continued
[Third POV]Kyrtos Photim felt uneasy, the Crescent annual ball, where everything went wrong, if it weren’t for the ball his soul would still be intact and he would have still been the strongest of all seas.He still is the strongest, after his daughter, well soon, he knows she is going to be the strongest siren in the world, he just hopes her attitude dies down before she is to ascend the throne.“Your Majesty, should I send a letter to let know the Crescent alpha that we will not be attending?” Naiad chimes, “or should I send the duke’s family instead, it would be nice for Aran to know his fellow heirs.”“Naiad it has already been established that Avisa is my only heir,” Kyrtos firmly says, “and no, I will be attending this year, hopefully I will be able to go meet Avisa’s new friends after the ball.”“Hmph,” Naiad hated it, she hated how the king was so unaware of his daughter’s lack of leadership skills.“Of course, your majesty, I will get the vessel ready, and we will travel to
