Chapter 69

KRISTEN

I don't know what this is, and I don't want it to end.

The moment I saw her text, I felt this strange happiness flow into me. My mentally exhausting day instantly felt better.

When I got to the house to find June sleeping while waiting for my return, I got this nostalgic feeling of June playing the role of a wife.

It was a perfect picture, at least, for me.

She was seated on the front porch in that picture-perfect imagination, her beautiful dark hair a curtain behind her back.

I could see the setting sun reflecting on and bouncing out of her brown orbs. She got up, arms outstretched for my neck.

The bags I was holding fell to the ground so I could grab her waist and kiss her...

Just the imagination of it gave me chills. It sounded perfect, but the battles we would fight would literally drain her.

June wasn't giving up. From what I've seen of her all these years, she doesn't place her fingers on something and look back—even literally.
