Chapter 19

I felt the silver on my ankles. My eyes peeled open and I coughed slightly. Looking around, I was lying on the wood floor, my blood coating it. It must have been a while because it was sticky and congealed. Pushing up, my hands hurt but then again, everything hurt. The walls and roof were made of the same wood on the floor. Turning behind me, my ankles were chained with silver. Locked into a hoop that was drilled into the floor.

Pulling slightly against it, my brow furrowed. It wouldn’t even budge or give. No matter how hard I tried to pull against it. The clasps were too tight for me to be able to slip my feet through. Coughing, I turned to inspect the rest of the floor. Smoke had started to wisp under the single door that was on the opposite side of where I was sitting. Trying to pull, the chain was only about two feet. So my little arms and legs couldn’t even reach the door, let alone the handle above me.

“Em?” My voice was hushed, quiet, and small.

I tried to call out to my brot
