first encounter

One

MORGAN'S POV:

Everything was perfectly set.

The dishes were all in their right places. I had even purchased a new seat of plates and cutlery just for this dinner. I had cooked his favourite dish and even included some intercontinental dishes that embraced both his culture and mine. I made sure to pour my heart into this dinner.

I bought scented candles of different scents and placed them at different angles. My husband's favourite scent was sunlight.

I never understood how sunlight could have a scent but to my greatest surprise, it existed in the market.

For three years now, I had been married to Dante Fontaine, the love of my life.

Where Dante was to sit, I lit a sunlight scented candelabra, each by his side. While on both sides of where I sat, I lit hibiscus scented candelabra. And for the one in the middle of the table, I lit a candelabra consisting of three sunlight scented candles and three hibiscus scented candles.

At the door, I lit the exact same combination as I did for the center decoration of the table.

I hung in the fairy lights that I had purchased together with the candles on the roof of the four corners of the dinning room even at the corners of the table. When I was done with my decorations, I switched off the lights.

It took all the nerve I had to prevent me from squealing. Dante was so going to love this!

We had met in highschool, after so many years we dated for a while back in college. The happiest day of my life was the day that we got married and I had just discovered today, that I was pregnant. And tonight, I was going to break the news in the best way ever, a lovely romantic dinner set up in a fairy tale mode. After all, that was how our very first meeting was, out of a fairy tale.

The joy and happiness flowing through my veins down to my entire body, made it impossible to calm down or even sit down. Dante was meant to be home by now. Half past nine.

Was he working overtime? Should I put a call through?

I took out my phone contemplating calling him then I decided against it. I sat down on my seat, envisioning the look on his face when he walks into the room. And then the look he would have when I drop the bombshell.

"Honey, you are going to be a father." I spoke out loud listening to the sound of my voice. He would be thrilled.

***** Flashback *****

"You're pregnant, Mrs Fontaine," The doctor said, a wide smile on her face. "Accept my congratulations."

My eyes widened, my jaw dropping.

"What?" I asked doctor Shirley smiling from ear to ear. "I'm pregnant." I said matter of factly. "I'm pregnant." I repeated my smile widening.

Doctor Shirley was still smiling. "Your happiness knows no bounds Mrs Fontaine. I'm really happy for you." Doctor Shirley said to me.

"Thank you doctor." I said to her rising to leave. She rose with me. "Thank you so much." She gave me a wide smile of genuine congrats and saw me to the front door of the hospital.

Outside, the birds seemed to be singing me a song of congratulations. The sun and it's fragrance shone upon my face giving me a congratulatory message. A feast this was to be. Tonight!

I hopped into my car heading for the supermarket to get food items and new cutlery for the feast tonight. I put a call through to Dante, unreachable. I called again and just left a voicemail telling him that I had a surprise for him tonight, that he'd better be early and off to the feast shopping, I went.

**** End of flashback ****

Fifteen minutes to ten pm. The food was getting cold and Dante had still not shown up. Where was he? He usually called to inform me when he had to work overtime.

I picked up my phone and dialled his number. It rang but there was no response instead, it went into voicemail. I called the second time, still no response, only voicemail. The third time, I decided to leave a voicemail.

"Hey honey." I said not knowing what to say. I just summed it all. "Is something wrong at the office? Or are you working overtime? Call me back when you get this."

I checked the food, it was getting cold by the minute. I switched the lights back on, covered the food and sat down on his seat.

"Ma'am," I heard a soft voice call. I turned to see our head housekeeper, a middle aged woman named Clara. She walked up to me, a kind smile on her face. "You're still up?"

"Yes," I sighed, rubbing my eyes. "I'm still waiting for Dante, he should be home any minute now."

She nodded. "Please let me know if you need anything."

"It's fine," I said with a smile. "You can go home now, let me handle the rest of the evening."

She didn't look too convinced but she smiled nonetheless and left.

Five minutes later, he hadn't returned my call neither was there any sign of his return. I walked to the living room and went outside the house. It was still and quiet. I tried his line again, still unreachable.

I paced up and down, from one end of our house to another. After waiting outside for what seemed like three minutes, I went back inside, to the dinning room.

Fifteen minutes to eleven pm! I had slept for more than forty five minutes and the house was just as quiet as it had been when I had dozed off.

The candles had burnt out half of their waxes while the food had gone cold. I picked up my phone and I tried Dante's line one more time, unreachable.

Ha something happened? My mind ran far and wild as I tried to imagine all the possible scenarios. Why is he late?

Not knowing the next step to take, I got up from the seat, stretched myself and began clearing the table of all the food. What a waste, I thought to myself. Then I heard the sound of his car. I glanced at my wrist watch, it was almost midnight.

I dropped the plates and cutlery I was with and moved as fast as I could to the living room. As I was getting to the living room, he was coming in. My heart hitched at the sight of him.

Dante Fontaine. The head of Fontaine group of companies. He had features that could make any Greek god cower. He walked into the living room, tall and exuding a powerful aura. I felt my heart skip a beat as his eyes turned to me, dark eyes that I could stare into forever and not get lost. Sometimes, u can't believe that this handsome man is my husband.

"You're late, I've been..." I started to say, but then a woman walked into the room right behind him, dragging a suitcase.

My eyes widened. I knew that face, I knew her so well and I had hoped never to meet her again. Those dollish eyes that looked much like mine, her innocent appearance, the signature mole under her eye, the very same spot I had mine.

"Hello love," She said, tilting her head to the side and waving at me. "Long time no see huh?"

What is Nova doing with my husband?!
