Brian's jaw clenched the moment he heard their family attorney's statement. With every member of their family, Atty. Guerrero officially read the document declaring that Ariana Kate Soriano, an orphaned daughter of their deceased maid, is now officially his legal sister.
After the announcement, everyone in their family welcomed her except for one person; Brian Gil who sat on the corner of the room, spacing out on a single seater sofa. He's still processing everything that's happening right at that moment, everything that Atty. Forth Guerrero has said.
"Congratulations Mr and Mrs dela Vega, from this day onwards, Ariana Kate Soriano-dela Vega is now officially your legal daughter."
Brian wanted to curse as those words echoed in his head like a tape loop. Ariana is now a legitimate member of their family. Someone who will likewise bear their surname dela Vega and be referred to as his sister.
Brian blinked several times when he felt the wetness in his eyes. He looked around the room, realizing he is the only one here in his father's study room. All those with him have left. They are probably already in the kitchen. Celebrating because finally, they managed to ruin his life! They are now rejoicing because he suffers from a bleeding heart.
Brian’s dramatic moment was cut short when the study room door opened. His Grandfather Klimt entered following his Daddy Renoir. They seemed to be talking and didn’t notice him sitting in the corner. They just continued the conversation and sat in the lounge opposite of his father’s office table. The old dela Vega sat on the single seater couch while his father was on the longer couch next to it.
Brian glared at the two old men, these bastards didn't even try to consider his feelings! They simply decided everything on their own, not even asking for his opinion.
"Brian, my grandchild. What are you doing in the corner?" He scoffed as he turned to them.
"Heartless…," he muttered. Still upset with the two old men.
The old dela Vega frowned as he couldn't understand what his grandson had said. "What's with the long face?" Klimt asked his grandson.
"Let him be dad, he's just being dramatic since he's against Chae and I's decision of adopting Ariana." His father said as he shook his head to his grandfather. After all, his father is aware of his feelings and yet he still did the one thing that hurts Brian.
His father really is heartless!
"Why tho? Ariana is a kind child. Why don't you like her?"
"I like her!" He cried as if he were a child who had been deprived of his beloved toy.
"See Renoir, he likes her. My grandson isn't being dramatic or what. Now go downstairs and welcome Ariana into our family." The old man waved his right hand as if he's swatting a fly away in every motion of his hand.
"Just kill me instead, grandpa! She's not welcome in our family!"
"Brian Gil dela Vega!" Renoir snapped. "What kind of attitude is that? Your mom and I didn't raise you to be like that." Brian scowled as his father started to lecture him.
"Don't be such a jerk will you? You do realize that Ariana is an orphan right? Her mother is dead and she doesn't even know her father, not even where her mother's relatives are. Don't you feel sorry for her?"
"Of course, I do feel sorry for her…," he said, pouting. He does feel sorry for Ariana and more than anyone else, he feels hurt the most for the girl. "But I'll never accept her as my sister, daddy! That will never ever gonna happen. Never!"
"You stupid brat!" His dad furiously stood up and was about to grab him when his grandfather immediately interrupted.
"Brian, my grandchild. Come here," Klimt calmly called his grandson. Brian is hesitant at first thinking that his father will punch him but the moment he sees his grandfather's reassuring smile, he comes forward and takes the seat opposite of his father's couch, on the other side of his grandfather.
"Brian, I thought you like Ariana? Tell me the reason why you kept on refusing to accept her into our family. Don't you know that everyone likes her so much?" The scowl on Brian's face grew bigger. He knows too well that everyone likes Ariana, being in a family full of men, they are excited to finally have a female member.
"I like her grandpa. But now that she's my sister, how on earth am I going to make her my girlfriend?" He sulked.
The older dela Vega was surprised at his grandson's remark. He glanced at his own son and shook his head. Renoir lowered his gaze and took a deep breath before releasing it. The old man didn't realize that his grandson had feelings for the maiden. Now that the cat is out of the box, he can finally understand why Brian kept on rebelling. Renoir didn't say anything about that matter to him before that's why he agreed on his son's decision of adopting the orphaned maiden. If only he knew that his grandson is in love with that girl, he should've just requested a marriage contract instead of an adoption paper. Poor Brian Gil.
"Grandson, I understand how you feel. But the adoption process is already over. Ariana's papers are done and now, she's legally your sister. There's nothing you can do about it. It already happened." Hearing his grandfather's remark, Brian could hear his heart breaking into tiny pieces. He lowered his head and let a single drop of his tear slip out of his eyes.
"I'm sorry, grandson. I know you can move on from this, you're still young and there's still so many fish in the sea."
"But Ariana is the one I like, grandpa." His small whimpers were replaced by sobs. "She's the only one, grandpa. She's the only one for me!"
"But you can't be with her." Brian's cries engulfed the whole room. He's a crying mess and he can't find a way to stop his tears from flowing. The pain in his chest is unbearable; the agony and failure that he's feeling right now are too much for him to handle.
"Just look for someone else, grandson. Because from this day onwards, Ariana is your sister. She's off-limits for you, Brian Gil. She's forbidden."
"Darling, can you call your father and grandfather here? Tell them that dinner is ready," Chaeyoon calmly called her daughter. "Alright," Ariana enthusiastically replied as she lowered her tablet. "Hey, don't cheat okay? I'll just call grandpa and daddy upstairs," she told Yves before leaving the young man. "Faster!" the young man yelled to his cousin. Laughing, she ran out of the dining area and proceeded upstairs. When she's finally near her father's study room, she slowed down her pace With a big smile on her face, she moved towards the door. Who wouldn't be overjoyed to be welcomed into the dela Vega family? They've treated her as if she's been one of them since she was a child, which is why she's so delighted now that she's officially a member of their family. Ariana felt like she wasn't different from them, that she wasn't an adopted daughter, because they accepted her with such tenderness. "Just kill me instead, grandpa! She's not welcome in our family!" "Brian Gil dela
"Are you sure you don't want to spend your holiday vacation in the Philippines?" Chaeyoon asked Ariana while they were eating lunch. From her own plate, she looked up at her parents and shook her head repeatedly. "I don't want to, Mommy. I'm perfectly fine to spend my vacation in California." "Okay, I respect your decision." Her mother cleared her throat. "But, don't you want to see your brothers? They already miss you, Ariana," her mother said, trying to convince her. She then looked down on her own plate. "Babe, let our daughter do whatever she wants." Her father chimed in. "Let her stay if she wants to. The doctor advised us not to force our daughter. It won't be of any help if we force her to do things she doesn't want. Besides, Rick and the others can just go and visit here if they want to see Ariana since it's their vacation time in the Philippines." She paused when she heard her father. Does that mean she'll see her brothers? It's been months since Ariana and her adopted
