VIVIAN

I sprawled myself on the couch as drowsiness gradually overtook me. When the clock struck 4, I decided not to wait any longer.

I dragged myself toward the bathroom and took a quick shower. The cool water running down my body helped refresh me a bit. I walked out of the bathroom with a towel. As I searched for a robe in the closet, I was stunned to find a bag of embroidered black lingerie hidden behind a mountain of nightdresses.

I remembered buying it from a lingerie store with Jessica a few years ago after our high school graduation. Back then, I was still that naive girl who believed Nathan was interested in me. Jess had suggested that I wear this sexy lingerie to seduce him, saying that no man could resist me in it.

But I never had the chance because not long after, Annika appeared, and Nathan hopelessly fell in love with that girl.

I looked at the lingerie. It must have been packed away in my bags when I moved here. For once, I was curious about how I might look in it.

I decided to try it on. There was no one at home, so I would have plenty of time to admire my body.

I didn't hear the door close downstairs, or the footsteps padding across the hall. I was engrossed in dealing with the bras, which looked complicated with clasps and straps.

Of course, I didn't expect Nathan to enter my ensuite. He had always preferred his study. So, it startled me completely when I stared into his misty eyes.

"Let me help you," he said with a smoky voice, walking toward me. He extended his hand and reached for my back.

His fingertips felt cool and calloused, sending tingles down my spine. I shivered as he quickly fixed the clasp. His stormy gray eyes locked with mine through the mirror. "Mrs. Sadoc, you look amazing," he cooed in my ear, his voice as smooth as melted chocolate.

His hot breaths mingled with the pungent smell of alcohol. His lips trailed down my neck as he wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin against my shoulder. It reminded me of how tall he was, standing at six-foot-seven. He was huge and strong, like a Greek God, with chiseled features and captivating eyes. Muscles bulged from his button-up shirt, as if they were about to burst free. His chest heaved against my back, and I could feel the rhythm of his heartbeat.

He started to kiss my nape slowly, nibbling my skin inch by inch. His raven hair, usually styled to perfection, was slightly tousled tonight, making him look hotter than ever. Stubbles dusted across his jawline, and he grazed it against my neck deliberately, eliciting a gasp from me. He chuckled.

"You smell sweet," he said, taking a sharp inhale of my scent like a hungry wolf. He was clearly drunk.

My heart skipped a beat as he unbuckled the clasp that he had just fixed a minute ago. "Oops..." he grinned mischievously.

My bra slipped down to the floor, and he cupped my breasts in his big hands. I moaned. I should have said something to stop him, but my body betrayed me; it yearned for his touch.

"Hm-hm…" I mewled.

He chuckled.

He chuckled. The air was inebriating, my mind was spinning, and my heart was thundering against my chest. I wanted him, I wanted him so badly.

It had been a long time since he appreciated a woman, and the sense of his bulge in his crotch was clear.

I purred, "Nate…"

His grasp tightened, and he gritted his teeth, grazing my earlobe with them. "Fuck!" he cursed. "It turns me on when you say my name like that…"

I chuckled with a naughty smile on my face. I'm not boasting, but I've always known that I'm an attractive woman, with my slender body and ample bosom. Boys in college had glued their eyes to me as I walked through the halls. Girls hated me for having such a seductive body. Back then, I didn't care about their gossip. I had my heart set on Nathan Sadoc.

Encouraged by my moan, Nathan unleashed the lace of my thong. The thin cloth saturated by my juices slid across my legs down to the floor. He growled at the sight of it, plunging a finger inside.

I panted and shuddered, tilting my head against his shoulder, silently requesting a kiss. Our lips locked together like two magnets. It wasn't gentle; it was frantic and urgent. His breathy moans melted my heart like honey.

I fumbled with his waistband as he held me tighter against his chest. The heat of his body enveloped mine, and his masculine cologne filled my lungs. We were both dazed, driven by instinctual lust like beasts.

"Take your time. I'm off work tomorrow," he chuckled, as he gently pulled a strand of hair behind my ear and planted a reassuring kiss on my shoulder.

"I love you, little bird," he cooed.

I froze. My heart sank at his use of that nickname. Shame, anger, and resentment boiled in my veins. Refraining from the impulse to slap his face, I snorted, "I am NOT your little bird, Mr. Sadoc."

He stopped, squinting at me through the mirror, his handsome brows furrowed in confusion. I turned around to stare directly into his eyes, which looked cryptic under the dim light.

"Sorry to disappoint you, but I am not Annika Summers. I am Vivian Cunningham, your wife. Remember?" I said sarcastically before running out of the closet.

I did my best to hold back my tears and not cry in front of him, but my emotional armor shattered as soon as I rushed into the room and locked myself inside. It was just a mistake, a drunken mistake. Nothing else. What did I expect? Of course, he's still in love with his little bird. Of course, he didn't want me.

I mumbled to myself as I crouched on the floor, the slickness down my inner thigh cooling in the fresh air. You foolish girl! You still fantasize about him. You hopeless idiot! I cursed my stupidity for believing that Nathan might want me. How could he ever want me? He loathed me. He resented me for shaming his beloved little bird. I had been the villain in their love story, always ready to prosecute the poor heroine. Or at least, that's what he believed. That's what they all believed.

It was reasonable for them to think that way. A spoiled wealthy girl and a naive innocent one. Who was the villain? Apparently, no one was on my side. People believe what they want to believe, and I was the one who got their anger.

That was that. They couldn't be changed. But I did hold some grievances. I was pissed not because everyone hated me, but because of Annika Summers, the girl with an innocent face I used to take as my best friend.

That was the biggest mistake I'd ever made in my life.

VIVIAN The story was rather cliché, but if you'd love to hear me out, here it goes. Everything started to change four years ago with Annika's appearance. It was our first day in college, and Nathan and I had chosen the same program, finance. Well, I wasn't interested in finance at all; I just followed him. After a long and tedious enrollment process, I was on my way to check the student accommodation building. Back then, I was eager to escape my father's control, and not living at home was the first step to independence. I accidentally bumped into a girl while I was fascinated by the quaint buildings around me. She collapsed onto the ground. "Oh god. I'm sorry!" I apologized hastily and offered her a hand. She got up and said, "It's okay." Her head was lowered, and she looked timid. "My name is Vivian Cunningham, a freshman here," I gave her a broad smile, "what's your name?" She nervously clutched the books against her chest and forced a nerdy smile, "My name is Annika Summers.
