Chapter Three
With the raindrops starting to fall, I couldn't bear to ride his car, so I set off on foot, each step a wet echo of my heartbreak. The raindrops soaked through my clothes, a cold, unwelcome companion as I walked. The world around me was a blur, the heavy rain obscuring my vision as I plodded on my steps slow and heavy with the weight of betrayal. As I was walking slowly, a car then parked beside me, I tried looking up, but everything was blurry. The person came out inside the rain and opened the car, I sat down with my soaked cloth. “I would have taken you home, but you need somewhere to stay right now, you can't go home this way, do you mind dropping you to the nearest hotel” I could recognize the voice, he's Noah, Leo's brother. “How do you know I am here” “Oh! Then, I had a meeting in the hotel, I couldn't wait any longer. I decided to leave when the rain was falling, but how would you go out without taking your phone along? And where's Leo?” I was just speechless, he gave me a face towel to wipe off my wet face. “I'll drive you off to a hotel and tell my personal assistant to get you clothes to put on, then you can decide to go to your house” I shook my head. He drove off to the hotel, and paid the bills. “Rachel, take care of yourself, I need to go now” I hold unto his big shirt, pulling him towards me. “Please don't go, don't go yet, I need your help” He looked at me keenly on my face, and then sat beside me. “What's that?” He asked “Your brother doesn't want me anymore, I caught him twice with my step sister, the wedding won't be holding again, I broke the engagement ring” “What?” When did that happen, I have invited CEO’s and so on? How? I haven't heard anything like that from my brother, let me call him” he tried touching his pocket for his phone but I stopped him “No, don't call him, I didn't tell him that the wedding won't be holding on again, just help me, I need your help” “My help? How? How do you need my help?” “I want us to pretend like we are in love” “How? I don't get, you are engaged with my brother and you still want to pretend to be in love with me, how's that possible Rachel” “You are aware that tomorrow is the family gathering right? And I can't tell them it had been canceled, I think announcing to them that it has been canceled at the family gathering and then stating everything he had done is the best” “Well, announcing that it has been canceled and Informing them that you are in love with the brother of your ex finacé, that doesn't really sounds good to me” “So then what do you think?” “I am ready to that though, but on one condition” “What condition?” I said hastily “Pretending to be in love with me and then dumping me later, oh No! Why not sign a contract marriage with me” “Contract marriage?” I breathe in and out deeply. “Yes, if you are interested in that, you can meet me at my office tomorrow to sign it” “Oh! Alright” He left the hotel room, and I was left to myself I was thinking he would call, I was staring at my screen the whole time, but I never got notified of his call. I didn't know when I slept off **** Half a month to the wedding and the day of the family gathering. I woke up with the thought of accepting his offer, so I went straight to his office. “Good Morning I am asking for Mr. Noah” “Good Morning, do you have an appointment with him? The receptionist asked “Oh! Not really, but you can tell him that Rachel is asking for him” “Oh! We don't do that here, he needs to have appointed a day for you to come, this isn't a place where you can come anytime you wish, he has people he wants to attend to today” “Don't you know me, I am Rachel, his brother fiancé” “You are well-known model and I know you well, but that does not mean I should allow you enter, you can see him in his house so far you have a close relationship with him, or better he appoint a day for you to come” I breathe in and take my phone to dial his number. “Hello, Noah your receptionist won't allow me to enter” “Oh! I will text her now” I hung up the call. A sound of notification buzz on her system, I knew well that it was him who sent her a message. “Madam, I am sorry for not allowing you in” “It's fine, can I go in now or you still have questions to ask” “I am sorry, how is your wedding preparation, it's the talk of the town, I am sure going to be present, I don't mind being absent from work a day” I ignored her then left for Noah's office. I couldn't help but express myself when I got to his office. I have been to different offices as a model for signing contracts with companies and different things, but I haven't been into an office compared to Noah's office. The design is so beautiful, everything there is luxurious, no wonder some people think he is into illegal work. “Whoa! I love those I love this design, so cute that I don't want to leave here anytime soon” “You can always come here Rachel, you are welcome always” “So I'll always have to disturb you then” “It's fine by me, so about it, have you thought about it, any news?” “Yes, i have, and i am ready to accept the offer, I am ready to sign the contract marriage” “A minute, let me tell my assistant to bring the file so you can sign” I watched him call him, and within a minute he brought it to his office. “I'll be leaving now” The assistant said before leaving. “Read it carefully before signing” Noah said as he handed it to me. I collected it and glanced through it, and then signed. “So when are you moving to my house?” He asked after I have given him the file “What do you mean” “I told you to go through it carefully, one of the rules there is that, after it has been signed you start living with me, this is contract marriage” “What? You should have informed me about this, but anyhow it's, I am okay with it provided that you pretend like we are in a relationship this night” “Of course I will, even when it's about confusing my own family, by now you should be getting ready for the gathering” “Yeah, I'll be on my way, see you at the gathering, don't come late Noah” I waved bye as I left his company to my house. With a sense of determination, I began to get ready for the gathering. I bought my new gown purposely for the gathering. My light makeup accentuated my features and my heels clicked against the floor with every step I took. I admired myself in the mirror and I saw that I am good to go. I went inside my compound and sat behind the wheel of my car and I drove off. I got there and I met Isabella and Leo there, I sat down without exchanging greetings with them. “Your arranged marital home is nice, we had fun there last night” Isabella said, sipping his drinks. “And you can continue having fun there as much as you like” “So what are you doing here? Are you here to steal my man” “You can have him all to yourself, I don't care” Just then, Leo's parents arrived and I greeted them warmly. I am beginning to get scared now that I didn't see Noah. “Was he lying to me or what?” I was very worried. “Why are your parents not here yet? Is this how they will get late here at the wedding?” Leo's mother yelled. “They will soon be here ma” I tried calming down. I texted Noah but he was not replying, then I began to breathe harder “How's your brother?” I summoned the courage to ask Leo, even when I haven't talked to him since we gathered there. “He will be fine” “Is he coming over? Where is he?” “I thought you don't want to talk to me, why then are you asking about my brother” “Why wouldn't I want to talk to you?” “What's going on here?” Leo's mother asked. “I am not sure they are compatible” Isabella added. “And who invited you to this gathering?” Leo's mother shunned. Some minutes later, My parents arrived, I wasn't concentrating, I was so disappointed that Noah had deceived me My eyes darted around the room, searching for Noah, but he was nowhere to be found. I felt a pit of unease growing in my stomach. Had he deceived me? The thought sent a chill through my body. “I am not sure Noah will be joining us, he's a busy person that we all know, probably he has conferences to attend to and we can stop him from attending, but he will sure be present at the wedding” The gathering continued, but it felt more like a trial by fire than a celebration. Isabella's smug face, Leo's coldness, and the parents' obliviousness all compounded your discomfort. “So what do we talk about, do anyone wishes to share his or her funny past, we can't make this gathering boring, you all know that, it's meant to share us up, for fun, to gather us together and to know more things about us, we can't be acting strange on the wedding day” Leo's mother added. “Yeah, I think the Parker's family should tell Rachel more about your family, getting into a very wealthy family might not be easy for us, she's not born into one, and I don't know how she will get along” Isabella said. “Well, she's not born into one, but she's one, we can all day that every citizen of the country knows her, she's a well-known model, a fashionista and she's the one that makes her family one, it won't be hard for her, but Miss. Isabella what about you, you are not born into one, how have you tried to become one?” “Mum, this is not what we are here to do” Leo said. “If you say I am not born Into one I totally agreed but if I am to marry into one, like Parker's family, they wouldn't regret marrying me” I watched them exchange words, but I am not really interested in them, I just want Noah. My mother coughed, and added “Isabella can you just keep your mouth shut for once?” Noah arrived, I left where I was sitting, I ran to hug him. My heart felt relief as I went to hug him, I threw my arms around him and everyone watched the way I embraced him. “Thank you for coming Noah '' I whispered. “Anything for you darling” Now I began to think if this is truly acting, my heart began to melt. “What's going on? What are you two doing?” Leo said, curiously. Holding onto the arm's of Noah, I addressed Leo, “Mind your business; you should call me your sister-in-law”Chapter FourThe tension in the room was palpable, like a charged magnet ready to attract mayhem. Leo’s eyes narrowed as his mother shifted uncomfortably in her seat, while Isabella wore an expression that could curdle milk. And then, like a light switch being flicked, the atmosphere changed. I clasped to Noah’s arm, stared Leo down with a defiant glint in your eye. It was as if a new energy had taken hold of me, making me bold and unafraid to speak my mind.“I am not the type that explain and talk too much but I think I owe the family explanation, I caught Isabella and Leo two times, they were kissing each other and the other at our bridal suite”Their mouths were wide open.“I tried forgiving him because I don't want to turn the wedding down, how do I go around and tell people that the event is not going to come up, I invited celebrities and all,I keep on forgiving him, it's high time, I don't want to keep loving someone who doesn't value or respect me, I have broke the engagement r
Chapter FiveNoah stood up and gestured towards his bedroom. "I’ll be back in a flash.” He disappeared through the door, leaving me to mull over the kind of person he was—his empathy and consideration were almost disarming, and I couldn't deny that there was a sense of security in his presence.Moments later, he returned with a bundle of clothes in his arms. "Here are some of my clean shirts and tracksuit bottoms. They might be a bit big on you, but they should do the trick.”I collected it, but I was moved by his love. The way he talks and everything, is it that he's being nice to me? or he's just nice to everyone this way.“Alright, thank you, I'd go look for Anna”“No, just call her name, she will answer, she works around here not far from my room at all and I kind of trust her, that's why I want her to be your maid, if you are not free with me, make sure you are free with her, she's so nice”“Alright, thank you” I said, I moved closer to his door and I shut his door.“Anna” I call
Chapter Six“Noah, can you please give me a moment?” I request, trying to mask the sudden rise of emotion that threatens to overwhelm you.“Of course,” he replies, his eyes never leaving yours. There’s a moment of stillness as you navigate the sudden intrusion of the outside world into your private sanctuary. The message- ‘Rachel, I see you’re still playing games. Guess you’re not over our breakup yet, huh? Just so you know, I saw you are trying to play games by dating my brother. Don’t you think you’re going a bit too far with your little revenge plan? Or maybe you’re just that desperate for attention. Let’s be honest, we both know you’re not over me.’As I read the message, I was lost and I couldn't control myself. “What are you reading?” Noah asked as he moved closer to me.“Nothing” I said as I cover the screen”“Are you keeping something from me now?”“No, I said No”“Your words may say no, but your body language tells a different story”Noah's gaze narrows, as if he can sense th
Chapter Seven. With the gale of courage at my back, I crossed the threshold of Noah's room, determined to see what was going onAfter several persistent knocks, the door finally swung open."What is going on here?" I demanded, my voice wavering slightly as I took in the sight of Noah in a boxer and singlet while the so-called secretary was wrapped in his towel. My indignation masked the shock that reverberated through my mind.“I thought this is a business discussion but now I know this is a bedroom discussion”Noah was speechless, after so many minutes, the secretary broke the silence, “Mr. Noah, I thought she's your brother's fiance, what's she doing here?”Swallowing hard, I turned your attention back to Noah. "I am going to dinner room now and I expect to see you in less than a minute”I was leaving, when the secretary left the bed she was sitting on to drag me back. “You can just command anyone you feel like because you are a model. Do you know who you are talking to? A CEO and y
Chapter Eight As I woke up the next morning, I found Noah beside me and it dawned on me what had happened between us yesterday night.I thought it's just a contract marriage to make his brother jealous, and probably he would get back his senses.I slipped out of the bed gently, not wanting to wake Noah. As I was walking out of the room, I heard his voice, as he was stretching up.“Good Morning Rachel” I pretended not to hear him.“I am sorry for what happened yesterday”“Was it not your intention?”.“I am sorry, I never forced you, it happened out of our will, I am sorry”“Oh! You want to use me so you can dump me the way your brother did?”“Rachel. I love you, and last night only made me more certain of that."I swallowed hard, the words catching in my throat. "Noah, this is all so complicated. We started this as a contract, an arrangement to help both of us. And now... now we're talking about love. What if this changes everything in a way we can't handle?""Maybe it will change ev
Chapter NineThe weight of public scrutiny pressing down like a vise. My voice shook as I spoke, barely keeping the panic at bay. “And what do I have to do? My fans are against me. How do I keep getting work from my clients? How?”Noah leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, a calm expression on his face that did nothing to soothe my anxiety. “I’ll just call Leo,” he said, his voice steady. “He can release a statement to clear the air about what happened, and that he caused all this.”I turned to him, incredulous. “And do you think that’s going to happen? Do you think he will do that?”Noah didn’t flinch, didn’t even hesitate. “He will. I know he would.”His certainty unsettled me.It wasn’t that I didn’t want to believe him, I wish to believe him . But the reality of Leo’s betrayal was too fresh. The idea that he would step up now, after everything, seemed like a joke.I shook my head, trying to make sense of it all. “You really think he’ll just come out and admit it? Take the b
Chapter TenThe press gasped, cameras capturing every angle of Noah’s admission. I could hardly believe what I was hearing—Noah was telling the world his feelings for me, right there in front of everyone.“Noah,” one reporter pressed, “are you confirming that you’re in a relationship with Rachel now?”Noah didn’t flinch. “I’m confirming that Rachel deserves better than what she’s been given. She should be a role model to every young lady who wants to be independent in their room. And for the relationship aspect, that's between us, we don't owe anybody explanation about how we feel”The questions kept coming, but Noah remained steadfast, giving them nothing more than what he already had. I could see the determination in his posture, the protective edge in his voice as he defended me against every insinuation, every half-truth.While watching the videos I can't stop staring at him, his handsomeness, his sexy eyes, and posture. He watched them talk, without giving any reply, he then turn
Chapter Eleven Third PobRachel cooked the food, and she served it out in the dining room. They both sat down.“This is delicious! you see you should run a very big restaurant alongside being a model” he said after a bite.“You see I always make sure to get home not too tired so I can be able to prepare food myself. When you were underestimating me, I don't want to brag so I won't be hyping myself” Rachel said as she watched him savor another bite.“This is more than hyping yourself, some certified chef can't prepare what my baby prepared! Wait, have you worked as a chef before?”“Let's leave that, let's eat, and when we are done we would continue on the bed”“Really?” He was mute, and he continued on eating. Moments later, his phone rang.“Hello mum” Noah said after picking.“I have seen various rumors about Rachel and you. Are you two in a relationship? Contract marriage? Or what's going on”“Mum, I can't say exactly but what I know is I am in love with her, and I wish to let the w
Chapter Ninety Six: PeaceThe room was quiet, the hum of the evening outside barely heard through the windows. Rachel sat on the bed, pulled her knees up close to her chest, and looked down at her hands. It had been an emotional day in surges which would leave one drained and still feel lighter than it had in weeks. She had heard Noah's words, taken the weight of his forgiveness, and finally-finally-allowed herself to believe that moving on was possible. But it was not only the past that weighed upon her with Noah. It was something deeper, far deeper, which she carried with her for much longer: the weight of decisions taken and actions she had led herself into in this position she is in presently. And none of these would have been possible without Vanessa. That made Rachel stop and think. Her friend, her confidante-her best friend-had always been there for her. In the maelstrom of their pain together, however, there was a part inside Rachel that wondered whether those choices had been
Chapter Ninety Five: The Unannounced VisitThe air was cool that evening, with that certain sting that made one clinch the jacket tighter and quicken the steps. Noah and Stephanie just stepped out of the restaurant, with the silence between them thick with dinner. Noah's mind had raced since their conversation, but his resolve had only been strengthened. He had to do this. He needed to see Rachel, to tell her he had forgiven her and wanted nothing other than for the two of them to be free to move on in life and find peace.Stephanie walked beside him, her hand clasped in his. She knew what he was doing, and as much as the wiser part of her still harbored her own reservations about the situation, she did understand that Noah needed this for his healing. She couldn't deny that a part of her was nervous, too-this wasn't going to be an easy conversation. But they couldn't ignore the past forever. Sometimes, closure was the only way forward. They turned to the building that housed Rachel's
Chapter Ninety Four: A Dinner Between HeartsEvening had worn into the comfortable silence; Noah sat opposite Stephanie, watching as she carefully placed the settings of the dishes she prepared for the better part of the afternoon. The hum of the kitchen at the restaurant behind him was accompanied by clinking of fine china and silverware, with wafting smells of fresh vegetables and herbs that reminded him of how much he had missed homely comforts. With a quiet contentedness that only can come from cooking for somebody dear, Stephanie smiled brightly at him across the table. She had always been a fantastic cook, and tonight wasn't going to be an exception. There was such delicacy in the balance of tastes and flavors on his plate to confirm her genius, but more important than anything was the fire that lit with her presence there, and her laughter that danced around the room in its voice. You know, she said, sipping her wine, I think this might be the best meal I've made in weeks. Mayb
Chapter Ninety Three: Rachel's Inner StruggleRachel sat alone in the darkened room of her apartment, hands clasped tightly around a mug of tea that she hadn't sipped. The warmth from the cup seeped into her palms but did nothing to quell the chill gnawing at her chest. She hadn't been able to get out of bed for the past few days, but today, her mind couldn't afford the luxury of lingering in self-pity any longer. She knew no longer what to do with herself as the world kept blurring into one big confusion of pain. The weight of her actions weighed heavily upon her, at times insurmountable. She quit her job, the one thing that anchored her into some kind of routine, just to get away from the tension slowly choking her. The thought of facing Noah after everything that had happened-after having betrayed him and watched him move on with Stephanie-was just too much to bear. Her guilt was eating her from the inside out, spiraling further down each passing day.The betrayal nipped at her con
Chapter Ninety Two: The fight of Rachel and Vanessa's Growing PressureShe sat on the edge of her bed and stared into the quiet night out her window. The city glowed alive, but every one of its lights, so it seemed, was farther away from the storm brewing in her heart. An ache inside her chest made her feel the air thicken enough to suffocate her with every desperate attempt to get more air in. It wasn't the night that was heavy, but the torment inside of her, her guilt, the betrayal, and all her wrong choices. Each time her mind drifted to Noah and the days with him, she remembered how he loved her, took care of her, and was there for her during the days when she needed it most. It now felt like the memories had been poisoned. Every touch he had given her, every word of love, every gesture was clouded in the knowledge that she had betrayed him. Not just once but twice-first by dating James, then by her part in Stephanie's kidnapping. She had crossed lines she could never uncross.Tea
Chapter Ninety One: GuiltThe soft, rhythmic sound of the rain tapping against the windowpane provided almost a melancholic soundtrack to Rachel's thoughts. She sat alone in her small apartment, the dim light from the lamp casting long shadows on the walls. She stood stiff, her hands curled into fists where her nails had dug deep into her palms to steady some unevenly escaping breaths from her chest. The whirlwind of turmoil, guilt, and regret all swirled within her mind.Rachel had sat here for hours without the slightest idea how much time had actually elapsed since she last checked her watch. Outside, the world had dulled to a gray haze, rain diffusing reality and fantasy. Her head was filled with visions of what had taken place during the last days. The look on Stephanie's terrified face when they took her away-when she and Vanessa dragged her away-stayed in her mind, awake or asleep. It was a memory that she could not shake, no matter how hard she tried. She thought of Noah and h
Chapter Ninety : A Flash of JoyThe day was dying, and the golden softness of the setting sun cast its warm light upon the city. In the house, a mixture of excitement and anticipation filled the atmosphere. Noah had spent hours preparing for this moment-this day he had been planning for weeks. The room was set up, candles lit, flowers put out, and soft music was playing-perfect to set the tone of the evening just right. Everything was so intricately planned, and finally Noah was ready. He stood at the center of the room, feeling his heart beating much faster than normal. Inside him, there was some nervous energy-a mixture of anxiety and excitement-but besides that, deep and calm, one realization: This was going to be the biggest move of his life with somebody he truly cared about. The door creaked softly open, and Stephanie walked in; her eyes lit immediately with the romance of the atmosphere. Her expression softened further at the sight of Noah, who stood awaiting her. The air seeme
Chapter Eighty Nine: The Unexpected She went to the window and adjusted the sheers to let in the soft light of the afternoon sun. The room was intricately set: candles on elegant holders, casting a warm glow in the room; rose petals scattered all over the bed and floor; a table at the corner had all kinds of delicate desserts and champagne glasses. The mood in the room was romantic, to say the least-perfect for Noah's proposal to Stephanie. He readjusted a small, velvet box stuck into his jacket pocket and scanned the surroundings critically over it. There was an almost palpable sense of contentment in the air: Things were going according to schedule, and he could already not wait to see Noah pop the question."Is it ready?" Sophia asked him, turning from the window toward him.Almost. Just putting the finishing touches on everything," he replied, readjusting the position of flowers that had been put in a vase on the table.Sophia beamed and moved over beside him, looking at all that
Chapter Eighty Eught : Betrayal and LoyaltyThe words stuck in her head while she felt her heart hit her stomach. Stephanie was the one Noah was going to ask to marry him. The woman who once had been her secretary , a woman who had been the catalyst of so many changes between her and Noah. And now, to hear that Noah was seriously considering a future with her-to hear that he loved her-left Rachel so exposed. As if every mistake she had ever made, the choices she had ever regretted, were coming back to haunt her in the worst possible way.Her mind swam with thoughts of her past with Noah: how she had betrayed him by cheating on him with James, his best friend. Guilt weighed in, and she had lain awake on many nights trying to account for her actions. She'd thought she could bury it, that time would cure the wounds, but that moment it threw itself at her-that Stephanie could have a future with Noah-everything was right back there in her face. Un-forgetful-the manner in which Noah looked
