"Thank you for your patronage."
Christen nodded at the cashier’s gratitude, as she walked out of the supermarket, a bag of groceries in hand. Once she was out of the store, she pulled her phone out and checked to see if she had received any new messages, only to sigh upon seeing none.
‘Still no response,’ she thought in gloom, as she put her phone away.
Christen was hoping to get a response from her husband about dinner tonight. Specifically, if he was going to be home tonight. Sadly, she didn’t get any response from him, as was the apparent norms between them.
They had been married for three years now. Rather than a couple of any kind, the two may as well be strangers, with how little they interact. It was not as though she liked this lack of interaction- if anything, she wanted to get close to him- but so as to not be a bother to him, Christen decided to respect his privacy. Besides, given his occupation as owner of Riverdale Corp- one of the largest and top corporations in the world- it would be a given that he would be extremely busy. If she were to call Forrest- her husband- while he was in the middle of an important meeting, that would not fare well for him or whoever he was meeting with.
And it wasn’t as though they never did anything a married couple would do, for there were times when Forrest took her out on dates. Though they were usually business related, with other people around, rather than an honest date between lovebirds. Happy as she was that Forrest still took her out every once in a while, for those times to all be related to his work instead of out of love, it did sting a bit.
‘I guess it can't be helped, given how busy he is. Still, it would be nice if he could give a response on this day. At the very least, on our anniversary…’ she thought, feeling even more saddened by this fact.
That’s right. Today also happens to be the day of their third anniversary. And yet, on a supposed happy occasion, Christen was anything but. What with her husband so busy with work, and not even bothering to send a text or a voicemail to wish her a happy anniversary. Sure, there were times when she did see him around in public while she was grocery shopping, but she did not dare call out to him. Not when he was usually with other people. She feared that he may still be doing something business-related and did not want to be a bother to him during those times. Although, lately, there had been times when he was with just one other individual and...
Christen shook her head, ridding her mind of any negative thoughts that was beginning to form.
“I should at least make his favorite for tonight,” she decided. “There’s always a chance that he remembers and returns early.”

As soon as she arrived in their little home, Christen got to work in making roast beef for dinner. Unlike what one would expect from a rich family, their house was like any other normal home. It wasn’t small, but it wasn’t all that big, either; just an average two-story house with very little neighbors.
Christen didn’t mind it, though. If anything, she liked this house better than her family’s house, where it was so big, it made her feel so distant from her relatives. In fact, that was exactly what her family was like towards her; distant. All because she was a failure and useless daughter.
Growing up, Christen had no talent in anything. She sucks at sports, and when it came to academics? She was always below average. Because of this, she was always treated poorly by her own family, and seen as an outcast to others, to the point that it led to her being bullied. At one point, she even wondered if there was a point in her living, if she had to live her life in misery.
It was when she met Forrest at a company party that everything changed. She was more or less forced to attend by her parents, who hoped to sell her off to a famous executive to save their declining company.
“You’re never good at anything else. You can at least make yourself look appealing to others, can’t you?” she remembered her mother say.
It hurts how little her own family thought of her, but she couldn’t say or do anything to prove them wrong. Not when it was the truth.
After meeting plenty of ‘suitors’ at the party, Christen wanted to get some air, and thus left to the balcony, where she met Forrest, who just happened to be making his way there as well. Though more to get some space away from the many ladies hounding over him. At first, Christen wanted to leave, not wanting to be a burden to him, when he asked her keep him company instead. From there, the two talked a bit about the party- rather, Forrest was the one who did the talking, while Christen merely listened to his problems- and after a while, Forrest said something Christen didn’t think anyone would say to her.
“You’re not like the other girls. I like that.”
It was only a simple statement that held no hidden meaning behind it. To her, though, it meant everything. Even though she was just a mediocre girl, she genuinely caught the eye of someone else. Moreover, someone who already made a name of himself in the world of business. And when Forrest publicly announced her to be his fiancé right after, it was nothing short of a miracle for her.
Wanting to keep that miracle, from that point onwards, Christen studied on being a fitting housewife to Forrest, as a way to thank him for seeing her for who she was. Accepting her as a person, instead of only seeing the many faults she had. While it may be pointless to learn these things when they would have servants taking care of the housework, Christen couldn’t think of anything else she could support him with. She’d be of no help in business, and it would be pointless for her to find a job anywhere else. At the very least, if she could make their home more welcoming to him with each return…
After they wed, when she moved out of her family’s house to her new home with her husband, she wondered if someone told him about her wanting to be a good housewife to him, for she was surprised to find themselves in front of a small house in which Forrest dubbed ‘home’. Most girls in her position would be disappointed to not live in a lavishing house, but her? She absolutely loved it. And since it was small enough to not need to hire a housekeeper, much less a servant, Christen felt closer to Forrest.
That is… She thought they had gotten closer to one another. Even though they had just gotten married back then, Forrest had instantly gone back to work, instead of being with his wife. They never even went on a honeymoon together. Sad as Christen was, she understood how busy Forrest must be, and decided to just support him, as any good wife would to their husband. Besides, it wasn’t as though they never see each other after their marriage. Still…
“I hope he comes back tonight…” Christen prayed, watching the roast beef cook in the oven with a saddened expression.
She may be telling herself she was content with the way things are, deep down, she truly wished she could do more with him.
The sound of the front door opening reached her ears, followed by a familiar voice calling out. “I’m back.”
Christen instantly perked up at the call in disbelief. Was that truly who she thought it was? Could it truly be?
She wasted no time heading to the front door, where she was overcome in joy to see a certain handsome face walking in. “Forrest!” She was tempted to just rush to her husband for a hug, but held back upon seeing his usual stern expression on his face, assuming him to be tired from working for so long. “You’re home,” she simply said instead.
“Yeah, yeah,” Forrest simply waved off. An action that made Christen feel a bit conflicted. “Look. I want to talk to you about something important.”
“Is it to attend another business party?” Christen guessed, as it was usually the only important matter Forrest would speak to her about. Particularly since it is the only time when she would have to be with him.
“It’s something else.” Christen was taken aback by the correction. Something other than the party? What could he possible want to talk about then?
A thought came to her mind as she had reminded herself of what today was, and a small smile forced on her face. “Then, how about we talk over dinner? You must be hungry. I’m making roast beef. It'll be ready in a few.”
“This will be quick,” Forrest indirectly denied, confusing Christen even more. “We’ll talk in the living room. The sooner we get this over with, the better.”
The confusion she felt turned into concern at that part. What does her husband want to talk to her about that could be so urgent?
"Sit." Christen sat on a small sofa in the living room upon Forrest’s insistence, curious and worried about what it was he wanted to talk to her about. She may not know what the topic will be about, but for some reason, something in her told her that it wasn’t anything good. Especially not with the tone he had used earlier. “Okay. What did you want to talk about?” she hesitantly asked, deciding to put her trust her husband. In the one man who accepted her as a person. Forrest let out a sigh at the question, and pinched the bridge of his nose. “You know… I was actually hoping I would think of something to say this in a lighter tone, but in the end, it has to be blunt,” he spoke, bringing upon more worries to his wife. “Firstly, I want to be sure of one thing. Christen. Do you love me, truly?” Christen became more worried than she was confused by the sudden inquiry. Her dislike at the situation steadily growing. “Of course I love you. So much, I’d do anything for you. I have always
"Hello. Is Forrest Riverdale here?" Christen's eyes widened at the question that came out of this visitor's mouth. Who was this person? Why was she here at her doorway? She certainly didn't look like an advertiser with the fancy clothes she was wearing. More importantly, why was she asking about Forrest? No, even more so... Who was she to just call him by his given name? "Um... Did I ask a bit too low or something?" she asked, snapping Christen out of her thoughts. "S-Sorry, uh... Who are you?" she asked. "Kiara," came a response. Not from the visitor, but from Forrest, who followed Christen to see who was at the door. Christen was quite shocked to see her husband out in the halls, but not as much as she was to hear him call this visitor's name... and see a smile on his face. Forrest was never one to show any sort of emotion before. Not on the day of their wedding, nor on any of their 'outings'. Why, she's never even seen him have a neutral smile on his face when speaking to his
"That concludes today’s meeting. If anyone has further concerns about what was talked about today, this is your only chance to speak now,” Forrest said, meeting with his employees of Riverdale Corp’s Advertisement Division about creating an ad for one of their business partner’s new product. Finding no one speaking up, he then said, “Very well. Then meeting adjourned.”The crowd dispersed at his call, returning to their usual business or getting started on ideas for the advertisement. One man, however, approached Forrest. “Excuse me, Mr. Riverdale.”“I believe I called the meeting adjourned, Mason,” Forrest interrupted.“Yes, I understand, but-”“I also already gave you the chance to speak earlier. In the world of business, you cannot hesitate to take whatever chance you get. Otherwise, it will slip by, and you may as well be faced with nothing but regret.”“It’s not about the meeting.” Forrest sighed then and finally turned to Mason with his hands up, fingers intertwining each other,
After a pleasant time with Kiara- who left to return to her father’s company- Forrest has spent the rest of the day tending to his own company’s business. Be it to fill out some forms, look over his employee’s works, and speaking to his many clients. As he worked throughout the rest of the day, he could not understand why, but that nagging feeling of incompleteness still had its hold on him. Truth be told, he had been getting this odd feeling for the past few years now. At first, he thought it was because he was in disbelief that he was finally together with Kiara, without having to keep up the whole ‘married’ act with the human he bought. If not that, then perhaps there was something in that roast beef the human made that had a funny side effect, but that couldn’t be possible. For after all, as a werewolf, he would’ve sniffed something out if she had smeared it with anything suspicious. But it truly tasted like a good roast beef- the best he’s had, if he would dare say it. Even Kiar
After spending hours in bed relishing in Kiara’s body, Forrest and his mate both lied in his bed, panting in exhaustion, but not tired enough to be lulled to sleep. While Forrest was trying to gradually let sleep overtake him, for Kiara, she was more bothered to be put to sleep, even after what they did. “Forrest. Is something wrong?" she dared ask. Forrest took a moment to take an a breath and exhale, answering, "Nothing. Nothing at all.” Kiara turned to her side, facing her mate, and propped up on an elbow. “Forrest. I'm a werewolf, just like you are. You know how sharp our hearing is. Or did you really think hours of sex was enough to mask your problem?” While Forrest would normally not like to be questioned for his actions, if it was his beloved mate asking, who was he to deny her a response? "A thought has been plaguing my mind all day today. Been trying to push it away, but it kept persisting.” Kiara raised a brow at the response. “Is that really it?” Confused by the quest
"’Christen’? That little bitch? Sure. I’ll let you speak to her. If that piece of shit of a bitch ever comes back!"Forrest thought he was shocked enough by how kindly Kiara was seeing humans these days. Upon hearing the retort given to his request, he was left even more baffled."What do you mean by that, Michael?” he questioned.“Gee, I don't know. How ‘bout the fact that the useless girl never came home after you broke off our contract? Not that she is allowed back to start with, if she did anything to upset you. Clearly she's outlived her usefulness! Least she was smart enough to stay out of our home. Her being here is nothing but a waste of space!" Michael harshly answered, increasing Forrest’s bafflement even further, in which the werewolf hid.“She’s your daughter, isn’t she? What right do you have as her father to say such a thing?” he carefully questioned.“Daughter?! Pah! That thing may have my blood, but she's a mistake! She should be old enough to make her decisions! And o
Her body felt heavy, tired in exhaustion. The hands that gripped her lower half released their hold on her at last. A sigh was heard from above, and a weight moved away from her body.“… pleasant as… usual…” she could faintly hear, her mind distorted from what she went through. Both physically, and mentally.Christen managed to force her eyes open, watching a man- her customer- dress himself and leave a few bills on the table. ‘Payment', to he exact. An amount far too little for what they did.She opened her mouth, trying to let out a word of protest at the amount left there, when the man turned to her with a glare. “What? You feel it’s too much for what we did? I thought the amount is perfect,” he spoke in slight mockery. “Besides, I already paid for the service upfront. This is all the spare change I have. Or is there a problem with this?”Christen knew he was lying. Though he did pay for the room, the ‘service’ was different. It doesn’t come with the room; it had its own fee, and h
"You still haven’t found her?” Forrest asked, as he was getting his tie tied by Kiara.“My men are doing everything they can, just as much as yours are. Unfortunately, it’s like she disappeared from the face of the earth,” she informed, finishing her work on her mate’s tie.Her response did not please Forrest one bit. If anything, it brought down much of his mood, as it had been lately.A few months passed since the call he made to the McGuire’s, and learned what became of Christen. Since then, Kiara had sent her pack wolves who have already blended in with the humans to try and find the missing human. Thankfully, Kiara still had the handmade handkerchief Christen once made for Forrest on her person, finding it too valuable in its own way to toss away. Sadly, in the time that passed, Christen’s scent on it had been fading away, making it far too difficult for the wolves to get a good whiff on it, and properly search for the missing human. Even Forrest, who had used some of his time t
"What do you mean ‘you don’t know what’s wrong with her’?” Fenris demanded the healers, after spending hours watching them do their jobs, constantly checking Christen’s condition and comparing notes with one another, and even overheard them coming up with various theories as to what became of her. Theories shot down but the other healers.“Exactly as we mean it, Alpha. We checked over as many things as we could, and even took blood samples to see if there was anything wrong. Unfortunately, as far as we could tell, there was nothing wrong with her at all,” one of the healers explained.“‘Nothing wrong with her’ would mean that she would have no problem with waking up. Yet, she hasn’t so much as respond to our call to her one bit. You cannot be telling me that this is all nothing,” he demanded. “Check her again. Use every method you can think of to find out what is wrong with her. Try to get her to wake. And if I see so much as a scratch on her, I will hold all of you accountable. Is th
Fenris ran in the snow in his werewolf form on all fours at full speed like his life depended on it. Desperate to get to his house in the Diamante-Krawler Pack as quickly as he could. Only it was not his life that needed the saving, but Christen’s, who was strapped to his back with the blanket. Body practically limp on him.“You’re going to be just fine, Christen! I promise you, you’re going to be okay!” he shouted to her, not receiving any response from her at all.‘How could this have happened?! Right after I promise her!’ he frantically questioned. That indeed. How could it be possible? He had just woken up from the nap he was having with her, feeling refreshed, and wanted to make some light meal to have with her. By the time he woke, she was still asleep, not that it bothered him. And since her body was warm- a sign that she was still alive- Fenris just thought to let her sleep peacefully a little longer while he was getting lunch ready for them. While her appetite may not drasti
Fenris was shocked enough with everything he had found out that involved Christen. The way she so nonchalantly accused him of being like the other guys who toyed her really took the cake. “I would never play you like they did!” he exclaimed.Christen was unfazed by the shout, though, as she shook her head. “Of course you wouldn’t. You’re not human like my customers are; maybe you have a different preference in games, too. And now that you’re married, maybe this game you’re playing is one that your wife would be okay with. So long as it ends with my blood being spilled or something.”Shell shocked, Fenris did not know what to think or say about this. “How could you have so little view of yourself? Of me?” he could only ask.“Like I said. It wouldn’t matter what I say. Not to anyone else. Only Christian- my own son- cared, but now he’s gone. With a much better family, who would give him more than I ever could.”“You really think I don’t care? When I saved you from death, cared for you,
Fenris did not know what to think at this point, when he saw Christen crying for her son’s leave. Not out of sadness or desperation for him to come back, but accepting the leave? Accepting that he was happier with another family? But what about him? When he didn’t even know he had a son until now? Not that it was her fault, he supposed…“So… That was our- uh… ‘Your’ son I saw?” he asked.“Yes. And he’s happier with another family,” Christen answered, not daring to look at him, as she only sat on the bed, hugging her legs close to her, with the blanket wrapped around her body.Running a hand across his face in an attempt to calm himself down from this revelation, he asked, “And you know that. How?”“Because I was with him at the time.” The response confused Fenris. She was with Christian when he was with his new family? He had thought that once a child is given to another family, the original would not be allowed to see the kid. Then again, it was not as though she lost custody over hi
Fenris was shocked enough when Christen responded to him, then when she wanted him out of her life- when she wanted to have no further involvement in anything at all- but that last one? That one claim she made in her plea? Did he even hear her right?“Baby? What baby?” he asked, kneeling down to her side. As he was about to place a comforting hand on her shoulder, before he could even touch the blanket, Christen toppled over a bit, leaning against the door, with the blanket falling off her body. To his shock, astonishment, bewilderment, and all other words he could think of to describe the sight before him… Her belly was swelling. No, not ‘swelling’. “Pregnant… You were pregnant?” he asked her, looking to his mate and notice how pale she seemed. While he was no doctor, nor did he know much about pregnancy for human females, he could tell that it was not a good sign for the mother. Just as he was about to comfort her, the scene changed again. Not really the scene itself, as it was mo
It took a while for Christen to calm down. Unlike the last time she had a panic attack, she was still awake. Just huddled against the corner with the blanket wrapped tightly around her. Her eyes were red and puffy from the frightful crying, and seemed very distant.Fenris walked to her, a cup of tea in hand. “Here. Something to warm you up,” he offered.Christen did not take the offering, much less acknowledge it. Her mind wondering around to other matters.Fenris did not know what to think or say now, as he licked his dry lips. He sat down by her with a light sigh, and brought his tail to her, hoping she would at least react to it. Even then, there was nothing. Fenris was at a loss. Why was his mate refusing to answer now? Was taking her out really that bad an idea? Then again, she was hesitant on coming out earlier.“Did you have some bad experience being outside? Maybe a kidnapping or something?” he asked. A question that was left unanswered, considering how unresponsive Christen h
"Okay, I think that’s enough combing now,” Fenris said to Christen, having endured the gentle grooming long enough, as he moved his tail out of his mate’s hold. He could sense the small dismay his beloved was feeling, but for once, chose to ignore it. For he knew for certain he would not be able to handle any more of that touch if he continued to let Christen continue. He glanced behind him, wondering if his mate’s mood has improved after all that combing. While she did have a small frown on her face, he could see that it was not from the earlier experience; just the loss of his tail. The moment she noticed him looking, however, the frown turned into a slightly frightened, hesitating expression. “As I said, this will be a part of your job,” he reminded her. “I have you cleaning the cabin, it will become too sparkling bright as a hideout. If you do feel restless not having anything else to do, you can comb my tail. In fact, I will even allow you to cook, if you so wish. It gets tireso
When Finral confirmed his son’s bond’s legitimacy, the other werewolves looked on in interest with what the evidence was. “Everyone here tell me first. Has there ever been a time when a werewolf has ever linked their mind to a human in any way?” he began. There were some murmurs at the question, all with uncertain expressions. There were even some who wanted to think that the man was about to talk nonsense- especially from the Krawlers, namely Winston- but could see from the tone and expression that Finral was quite serious in the topic. “My son is able to do that with the human. Linking his mind to her’s when asleep.”The moment the explanation left Finral’s mouth, Winston brushed off the claim. “In other words, the boy was doing nothing dreaming, as are you. And yet it is my and my daughter’s positions that are called to question? If this is dreams we’re talking about, I’m sure many of us here has had plenty of dreams where there are other people included. Loved ones or otherwise.
Back in Fenris's house, in the Diamanté-Krawler Pack, things have gotten quite troubling for the Advisors. “This is the last time we have let your daughter get any sort of freedom, Winston. Not once did she get in the way of another werewolf’s mate bond, but twice. Nay, THRICE, if you include her meeting with Alpha Fenris’s mate the other day!” a male elderly Advisor from the Diamante Pack scolded.“But Allister, this ‘mate’ Fenris claims to be with is human. How do we know for certain of that person if his mate? And furthermore, let’s not forget that the boy is cursed. His senses dulled to the point that they have become equal to that of a human’s senses. Who is to say that he is not mistaken in what he feels?” Winston reasoned. “He’s not wrong,” a male Advisor of the Krawler agreed. “While those of us amongst the Krawler know little of this curse your Alpha has, as the people who have watched over him, you should have some idea of the curse. Better than we do, at least. That being
