Chapter 12 — A Miracle

Mrs. Luz, Alma's mother, was supposed to be in the hospital for a few more days, however, Alma couldn't stay by her side for that long.

Not when she had three underage siblings alone at home, without adult supervision, and although her sister, Naomi, had promised to take over, she couldn't leave that responsibility entirely on her shoulders, she was just a teenager.

So, Alma had to go home and leave her mother in the hospital alone for the night.

When she got home, the atmosphere felt heavy and gloomy, her siblings were watching TV in the living room in silence, and the fact that Alma felt so tired didn't help her spirits up.

Apparently, their father's abandonment had affected them all quite a bit.

Thanks to Naomi, the youngest, twelve-year-old Santiago and six-year-old Diana, were already clean and showered, ready to go to bed.

With great affection, Alma hugged her little brothers, who looked sad and discouraged, she sent them to bed.
