Thirty-Two - Carine

She could feel Marrin trying to pull her through the door but her hand refused to enter. It had connected with the wood and stopped utterly. As if she was trying to shove her way through, Carine pressed her hand against the wood.

Nothing. Her hand turned white where she shoved against the unforgiving wood, despair spurring her on.

I’ve got to get out of here. I have to!

Roughly dragging Marrin back through the door, Carine grabbed her hand, squeezing it tightly until the girl winced.

“It’s because I wasn’t touching your skin!” Carine declared. “I was touching your clothes so it didn’t work!”

“And it will not work now,” Marrin said sadly. “You are hurting me,” she added in a small voice.

Yet Carine did not care or even hear her fully, obsession with her plan working overriding everything else.

Now I can leave! Now I can get out!

She shoved Marrin through the door again and waited until she was almost entirely gone, her hand the only thing left in Carine’s room. She watched with eager a
