I just got here after bringing the photocopy of the documents she asked of me, and yet her smirk is annoyingly smug as she sits comfortably across from Carlisle’s desk.

"Oh, good. You’re here," Violet hums, tapping her nails against the armrest. "I was just about to tell Carlisle about our little chat earlier."

I stiffened. “I don’t think it’s necessary, Miss Harrington.” I murmured.

Carlisle frowns, eyes flicking between them. “What chat?”

Violet’s smirk widens. “The one where we talked about how she’s not supposed to think everything you give her will last long.”

I froze at how straightforward she was. “I-it is improper to talk about something not work-related.” I tried to sound stern and righteous, but the shake of my voice gave away my anxiety with how this conversation is going on.

Carlisle’s eyes darken instantly, his expression hardening. “Violet.”

Violet shrugs. “Oh, don’t look at me like that, darling. I’m just trying to help her manage her expectations.”

Emma’s email was waiting to explode, and once it did, there would be no undoing it.I could already picture the headlines, the articles twisting my existence into a scandal, the whispers about how I had seduced my boss for power and wealth.I could handle humiliation. I had survived worse. But Carlisle? His reputation wasn’t just a title—it was a kingdom he had built through blood, sweat, and ruthless ambition. And Erwin? He was innocent. He didn’t deserve to wake up one day and have the world whisper

Reigna“I don’t trust my son around you.” Stern, Carlisle blocked Violet from approaching Erwin, her smile faltering as he bruised her ego.Because the school bus won’t come over because, apparently, it is “full”, Violet offered to drive Derwin to the daycare, and it left the twins, Lilly and Christy, left with no choice but to come back to the penthouse and tell us how Erwin will be riding a different vehicle today.“He is my son too.” she spoke, her soft voice sounded genuine, yet her eyes held no affection which tells me to interfere.“Carlisle can’t delay any more time because he’s got a scheduled meeting half an hour from now.” I spoke, making their attention fall on me.“But our son?”“I’ll accompany him.” I blinked. “Violet and I,” I paused, keeping my face straight and certain. “The two of us will go and bring him to school.”***I was confident in saying that because I don’t want to leave Erwin alone, or keep Carlisle even more occupied. But dang it, the tension in the car wa

ReignaI think we never really ran out of problems.“You don’t really have to go there, princess.” Carlisle sighed for the nth time, dressed casually in his white shirt and black sweatpants, and beside him in Erwin, copying his father.“Yeah mommy, don’t leave.” He sighed.I laughed at their reluctance of letting me go in this Sunday evening—well, if I were them, I would also be unconvinced that my parents who, unfortunately, disregards me all my life, is suddenly asking for me to come home and have a hearty family dinner with them. But…I can’t say no.“I’m sorry, boys. But as much as I hate to admit it, I really, really, wanted to go.” I smiled, pausing midway of curling my hair to turn and face them. “My parents asked me to come home for the first time. And it was father who messaged me.” I softly spoke.“It wasn’t every day I could receive a text, let alone an emoji.” I laughed, thinking I’m being too childish to think big of such a trivial thing.“I don’t trust them at all.” Carli

Carlisle“Maybe mommy will be home soon?” Erwin’s soft voice rang from his play room, making me sigh for the nth time this evening.I knew this dinner was a mistake. There’s no way in hell that the same family who birthed that sister of hers who sneers and steals her boyfriend, will actually feel and welcome her in their house—not when I pulled enough strings to ruin a part of their pride through their wealth. But Reigna…My princess laughed, genuinely, as if this meant something. She who worked for her life and not depend on her family.I had wanted to tell her the truth—that this wasn’t a reunion, that they weren’t suddenly welcoming her back out of love or regret. But I couldn’t bring myself to break her heart before she even stepped out the door. So instead, I let her go, forcing myself to watch as she walked away with a hopeful heart. And in return, I spent the evening with Erwin, making preparations.“Dada, should we put more pillows?” Erwin asked, struggling to carry one of the

Carlisle“Dada, why is mommy still sick?” Beside me, a sleepy Erwin stirred awake after a fixed the blanket on him, thinking it’s better if he’s not lying down beside Reigna of he might catch the cold. “I get better after some sleep, but is she still sick?”“Buddy, it’s just been two hours.” I sighed, picking him up. “Maybe we should have you sleep in your room, yeah?” I stood up, carrying him who is too sleepy to argue.“But dada, mommy…”“I’ll take care of mommy, don’t worry.” I reassured him, then I glanced down Reigna’s sleeping form, his breathing unsteady as she tried to breathe through her mouth.“I’ll just bring our son to bed, and I’ll come back after.” I spoke softly for permission before leaving her room.Once Erwin has settled down his bedroom, he gave me one last advice. “If mommy won’t wake up soon, maybe she needs dada’s kiss, like the princess in fairytales.”***I sat beside her, the dim glow of the bedside lamp casting uneven shadows across her face, highlighting the

ReignaThe first thing I noticed when I woke up was the empty space beside me, the cold sheets a stark contrast to the warmth that had been there last night.“Rest for a while, princess. I just have to finish something, so you’ll be okay once you wake up.”I can still recall his voice, lulling me to sleep as e tells me every little thing he does whenever he leaves my side. His gentle caresses, soft kisses, and even his murmured prayers—one so faithful that it got my fevered head wonder: Is he taking care of his trusted person, or his…The second thing I noticed was the ache in my body, not just from the fever that had drained me for hours, but from the emotional weight of everything that had unraveled yesterday.I pushed myself up slowly, my limbs weak but functional, my breath coming out in a quiet sigh as memories of last night crept back into my mind. “I have to go to work.” I mumbled, steeling my resolve to leave my bed.A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts, and Lilly’s

ErwinI didn’t go to school today. Nanny Lucy told me I’d be staying home, but she didn’t explain why.“Can I at least go play with my friends later once their class was done?” I looked up, but she just gave me a little smile, and then ruffled my hair.“No, baby. I think it’s better for you to stay at home today.” She softly said, patting my cheeks since I huffed and crossed my arms as soon as I heard ‘no’.“Come on. You’ll like it! Didn’t you always say that you wanted to skip classes so you can stay with your mommy and dada?”“But mommy and dada aren’t here!” I stomped my foot, making her pick me up from where I was playing legos with, and then brought me to sit at my desk when my math is waiting. “This isn’t what I want when I said I want to skip school.” I pouted.“Your mommy is still recovering, Erwin.” She crouched down. “Your dada is taking care of her. Besides, don’t you like math and arts? How about you answer all of this,” points at the page that’s currently open. “And then

ReignaWhile Carlisle and I are in the middle of…erm, kissing, we heard a little voice that made me push him away.“No!I barely had time to react before he ran into the room, his tiny arms wrapping around my waist, clinging onto me as if I’d disappear if he let go. His small fingers dug into the fabric of my dress, holding on for dear life, his tiny chest heaving from holding back sobs."Mommy don’t leave! You and Dada have to get married so no one will be mean to you!" he wailed, pressing his face into my stomach. The weight of his words hit me like a brick wall.Married?Carlisle and I—?I looked up, my breath shallow, my eyes locking onto Carlisle’s. He looked just as stunned, his entire body rigid, his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides as if he wasn’t sure what to do. His lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but no words came out.I crouched down slowly, my hands shaking as I cupped Erwin’s chubby cheeks, forcing him to look at me. ErwinWhy was it that after they came back home from a long, long, trip, mommy was sad and dada is being unusual?I knew it.I could feel it.Even though she smiled when I woke up this morning, even though she kissed my forehead and brushed my hair like she always did, something felt wrong. Her smile wasn’t the same as before—it was stretched too thin, her voice a little too soft, like the way grown-ups talked when they were trying to hide something. And Dada—Dada was acting so odd too.Usually, when he came to see me in the mornings, he would look at Mommy in a way that made me feel warm inside. Like the way he looked at me when I did something good. Like she was special. But today, he didn’t.He barely even looked at her.And she barely looked at him.I didn’t like it.“Mommy, let’s eat breakfast with Dada today!” I said, kicking my feet while she helped me put on my socks. My words came out excitedly, hoping she'd say yes right away. She paused—just for a second. Then, she smiled a

CarlisleThe moment the wheels touched the tarmac, I felt the shift. It was subtle, almost imperceptible, but I felt it. The way Reigna straightened in her seat, the rigid tension in her shoulders, the way her fingers curled against the armrest as if bracing herself for impact. Not from the landing—but from everything that came after. She hadn't spoken a word to anyone since our confrontation in the lounge, not to me, not to Violet, not even to the flight attendants who offered her a drink she didn't acknowledge. She had locked herself in silence, a fortress built in mere hours, and I—I was the reason why.I want to believe her…I wanted to take her side and stop people from spreading malicious rumors about her. But I just can’t do it.Violet won’t drown herself on her own, right?Or she won’t lie and pretend she didn’t fell accidentally on her own, right?I just can’t see the point of her harming herself to paint Reigna bad. But I can’t truly convince myself that Reigna purposely hurt

Reigna“Miss Harrington shouldn’t go back by herself.”“I agree. She’s still shaken up from what happened yesterday. Please take care of her.”That is the picture: Violet Harrington is on the same ride as us.Carlisle’s private plane was luxurious—pristine leather seats, gleaming mahogany tables, the scent of aged whiskey lingering faintly in the air—but to me, it felt suffocating. Every breath I took was thick with tension, every glance stolen across the cabin a reminder that I didn’t belong here. Not anymore.I sat rigidly in my seat, hands clasped tightly in my lap, nails pressing into my skin hard enough to leave marks. Across from me, she lounged, draped in a silk blanket, her damp hair cascading over her shoulder in soft waves, her complexion artfully pale. Violet. She looked weak. Delicate. Like a woman who had suffered greatly. It was a lie. Every inch of it.I dug my nails deeper into my palms, forcing myself to stay quiet, to keep my expression neutral, even when the urge to

ReignaThe heat of the midday sun bore down on my skin, but I felt nothing but the ice curling around my veins, spreading like poison. The murmurs grew, swelling like a tidal wave, each whispered accusation crashing against me, pressing me down until I could barely breathe.“She actually pushed her…”“I always knew something was off about her.”“This is exactly why people like her don’t belong here.”No. No, no, no.I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails bit into my palms, my breaths coming in short, uneven gasps. My entire body trembled—not with fear, not with guilt, but with the suffocating, helpless frustration of knowing that nothing I said would matter.Because they had already made up their minds.Jonathan Devereaux, standing like some self-appointed judge, let out a disappointed sigh, shaking his head."Harrington has been nothing but gracious to you, and this is how you choose to repay her?" His voice was coated with condescension, as if he were disappointed in me, as if

Reigna“I shouldn’t have drunk all that last night.” I sighed, not remembering a thing from last night,Carlisle had left early for a meeting, leaving me to navigate the battlefield alone. I was accustomed to the treatment by now—the sidelong glances, the backhanded comments disguised as politeness. But today, it was worse.Because today, I was expected to be silent. The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and saltwater as I made my way toward the poolside lounge. Guests were scattered across the area—some reclined on plush sunbeds, others gathered in small groups beneath the canopy, engaged in conversations I had no part in.And at the center of it all, Violet. She was draped effortlessly on a chaise lounge, a delicate flute of champagne resting between her fingers. Dressed in an elegant ivory wrap dress, she looked like she belonged here, like she was the centerpiece of the entire world. And, in many ways, she was.Her soft laughter carried across the terrace as she c

CarlisleShe stumbled out of the elevator, her bare feet padding against the plush carpet, the soft giggle that left her lips laced with both defiance and exhaustion.I should have let her go. Should have let her retreat into whatever messy, alcohol-induced thoughts were swirling in her head. But I didn’t.Instead, I followed. The suite was dimly lit, the glow from the city lights outside casting faint shadows across the room. She walked—no, wobbled—toward the sitting area, her movements slow, almost hesitant, as if the weight of tonight was pressing down on her all at once.“You’re going to regret drinking this much in the morning,” I said, closing the door behind me.She scoffed, collapsing onto the couch with an exaggerated sigh. “Good. Maybe a hangover will distract me from the bigger problem.”I exhaled sharply, slipping off my suit jacket and tossing it over the armchair. “And what problem is that?”Reigna lifted her gaze, her expression a mix of frustration and sadness. “You.”

CarlisleEveryone is testing my patience.I sat beside Violet, my posture relaxed, my fingers grazing the rim of my whiskey glass as I listened to Devereaux retell a story I had already heard twice this evening. I had no real interest in the conversation, but I made the occasional comment when necessary, maintaining the effortless control expected of me.Violet, meanwhile, was in her element. She laughed, leaned in closer than she needed to, brushing her fingers against my arm as if she had every right to. And I let her—because letting her act familiar with me, letting her bask in the attention, was the easiest way to keep her content."Remember when we stayed in Paris that summer?" Violet mused, swirling the golden liquid in her glass. "That tiny villa overlooking the Seine? We were barely indoors."I nodded, but said nothing.Violet hated silence, and true to form, she filled it."But then again," she sighed dramatically, "you’ve always had a habit of leaving things unfinished, have

But hell, things kept on going south—and before I knew it, we are already here…celebrating Violet Harrington’s birthday.“Anxious?” I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard Carlisle’s voice, making me turn and face him. Dressed in his suit fit for his status, he looked too dazzling just to be alone with someone like me. His green orbs looked intimidating, yet his presence screams for everyone to approach him and pay respect.Currently, we are at the elevator, slowly approaching the venue where I’m about to be grilled alive once more. “I think I can’t stop myself from feeling it.”He stared at me for a short while, ad instead of responding through words, he tilted my chin and kissed me, causing my eyes to widen before I savored the feeling. Carlisle“Carlisle,” Reigna spoke, her voice soft as I fix my polo while watching her reflection through the mirror. “Uhm, maybe tomorrow, I should just stay inside?” she asked, her voice getting smaller as she finished her question.Ah. She’s bothered by it.“I’m not attending.” I finished fixing myself and kept my eyes on hers through the mirror that keeps us connected. “It’s just a birthday, princess. We’re not needed on it.”“But Carlisle-”“Let’s go out.” I turned to pick up my sports bag, ready to tackle another afternoon activity with the acquaintances involved in this hypocritic gathering. “The others are waiting. I was told we’re playing golf today.”“Carlisle…” her tone sounded defeated, but I heard no other complaints or suggestions, rather, I can hear the faint ruffling of her preparing her own things to bring as we face those ridiculous people once more.***The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the pristine green of the private golf course.
