Ava.
His pupils narrowed and he didn't answer me immediately. It must've surprised him that I would come up with such a question, and his reaction did nothing to kill my curiosity. Instead, I wanted to know more_ if she was really his mate and had his baby.
"Why do you ask?" He replied me with a question and I pretended to roll my eyes.
Perhaps, there was really something and Olivia was right. I was just the bride he gets to fuck legally because her pack had enough of her already and couldn't tolerate her nasty behaviour, so they gave her to him freely. And Olivia on the other hand was a prestigious Beta; his mate and his original lover. Whatever happened between them to not get married did not change the fact that I was just an imposter.
"I just wanted to know if she is one of your lovers." I said, trying my best to sound unbothered but even I could hear the concern in my tone.
I hurriedly continued so that he wouldn't mistake me for being jealous, "It seemed that she wouldn't mind making my life here a living hell so I wanted to know whose side you would be on if I decided to strike back."
Darwin chuckled amusedly and leant in to kiss my nose tip, the most sensitive part of my face after my earlobe. "I'm still waiting to properly claim you and until then, I'll constantly, with bended knees, daily worship you. If there's anyone's back I would have, it would be yours, little demon. I tell you, you have the most desirable one I've ever seen in my entire lifetime." He had his way with ambiguous words and to indirectly skirt giving me my answer.
But I would be honest that his reply was much better than the one I had expected. Perhaps, it did not much matter what Olivia had claimed as far as I had his words.
"Shower and go to bed. Turn the lights off and lock your door after I leave. I need to attend to some matters." He patted my head like a precious toy and hopped out of the bed. Seconds later, the door closed after him and I stood up, wrapped the towel ruined by my cum around me and walked to the door. I locked it, assuming that no one else could get in that way apart from himself.
-
After breakfast, I got dressed and waited for him to come get me until noon. The clothes arranged for me were mostly revealing or tight. I chose a loose silver gown made of thin satin. It was skimpy, stopping inches below my butts and had very thin straps. Nevertheless, it was indeed very beautiful and accentuated my long legs and collarbone.
But remembering Darwin's reaction when I wore that body revealing gown to the ceremony, I decided to wear a long coat over it. I chose gray, not knowing what his favorite color was but guessing the color of his eyes should be fine. I chose silver square boots to match with my dress and even packed my hair up.
It seemed I had prepared too much just to meet his mother but I couldn't help being super nervous about it and now, I was beginning to assume that I'm being stood up.
I waited for another hour before giving up on waiting. I grabbed my phone and left my room, strolled down the spacely hallway and down the stairs. Interestingly enough, I was not just given a room but a real house of my own. Darwin had given me one of the two royal residences in the palace, the other being where he lived. It had two lavishly furnished living rooms; a bar room containing different kinds of expensive wine; a master room and a guest room; a study room and well, a kitchen that did not contain much. Regina, one of my maids, had told me that he did not recommend meals being prepared in the two residences and so, the palace kitchen prepared all the meals.
As I stepped outside the residence, I found the two bodyguards assigned to me waiting there and I immediately asked one of them to take me to the palace kitchen. If it meant that I had to deliver meals just to see him, then I didn't mind. I would just keep in mind to scold him for standing me up.
The palace kitchen was really a heaven of appetizing aromas and the menu was especially enticing. As we made our ways to the other room where the food was usually prepared, I heard the girls chattering around. They were deeply drawn into their discussion that they hadn't noticed when I reached the entrance. Curious about what gossip could be so interesting for them to lose consciousness of their environment, I paused to listen to their conversation. They were a couple of girls, sitting around the bar and chatting and it appeared that they were gossiping about my marriage.
" I don't think she'll be able to cope with the Alpha. She's not his mate and they don't have any special bonding. Even Isabella, his mate couldn't stand the torture anymore and ran away." One red haired said, scratching the nape of her head with her overgrown fingers. She was short and dirty and so was her judgment_ shortsighted and very unclear.
"Hmm. The Alpha isn't the type of person one should sign up a lifetime relationship with. I really do pity her. She was so tired yesterday that she immediately asked us to leave so she could rest. She's so young, very young." That one, Nadine, had a problem with her brain and couldn't use it to think straight, I wagered in myself. First of all, she barely knew me so how could she pity me? And I wasn't that tired yesterday, I just wasn't used to the feeling of being treated as a royal and needed some time alone. I also thought of asking them to rest because I imagined they must've been busy all day long. Next time, I would ask her to scrub the living room with a toothbrush. Moreover, I might be young but I'm not weak.
"Did you see the way he held her face at the ceremony? I could tell she almost felt like dying. I really saw her eyes watered." And do I have to tell them I've felt like dying a thousand times but did not die? Metaphorically speaking, I have been stabbed in the heart a thousand times but did not die.
"You guys are all just jealous. I think the new Luna is nice and better than Isabella. I also think she's strong. I think it's adorable that she went ahead with the marriage after that. A stubborn and fierce heart like that is what the master needs to counteract his cold one." That one, Regina, should be my favorite. I must say she already is. After all, she is the only knowledgeable one amongst them all. The rest seemed to have taken coke all their years in college.
"Right, Regina? Isabella is the weak one and anyone that thinks she's better is definitely insane. What is better in not trying? I'm the fierce one that has decided to stay." I said, walking into the room and announcing my presence. Seeing it was me, they all jumped out of their positions and immediately bowed their heads.
"Your highness!" They all chorused with a shaky voice and I sneered. Even when I was a lowlife rookie, I never spoke ill of anyone to people. Especially not someone I was not acquainted with.
"I am not your prince or princess, gossips. I'm your queen and Luna. It is only right that you address me as Your Majesty or Sire." I reprimanded them resentfully and quickly turned to face Regina. I did not wish to waste another minute thinking about what they had said and finding words to make them feel worse.
"Where is the head chef, Regina?" I beckoned her and she moved closer but like yesterday, still refused to look up at me.
"She is on sick leave. The acting head is Elena, she..." Knowing she must be part of those speaking bad of me, I did not wait for her to finish.
I hurriedly asked, "Did you serve him his breakfast this morning?"
She seemed to be lost for a moment before answering me, "No. No one is allowed to go in except we're called in."
And the excuse as to why I've been stood up is that he has been busy all morning? He even skipped breakfast all morning. How unhealthy, even as alpha!
"Microwave something now. I'll take it to him on my way." I told her, brushing past the rest of them like they did not exist and I sat on the stool, taking a quick rest after walking over a long distance while I waited for Regina to carry out the task.
"I'll take hot milk for him too; cake and a boiled egg also."
Back in Oakley, that was what I usually had for breakfast and however cheap it seemed, it always kept me happy and strong until the next meal was available.
"Okay, Sire." She nodded and sauntered around. I wanted to tell her to call me something informal but I brushed the idea away. Maybe it could not be any better than this way.
Regina soon finished and she packaged the dishes into three paper bags, handling it over to my bodyguard.
"Thank you, Reggie!" I said and waved her goodbye, despite her reluctance to have me leave on my own. She had insisted that it was her and her colleagues' duty to follow me around in case I might need some help.
Alpha Darwin's residence was just beside mine so it was easier to locate and access. Seeing it was me, his bodyguards immediately let me in and I took the paper bags from mine, asking him to wait outside. I headed into the building, expecting it to be quite similar to mine but I was wrong. The interior, designs and furniture were totally different from what I had back in my residence. They were dark and bland; no fashion and no taste. They were either gray or black, even the floorboards and the paintings on the walls. Only the light coming in through the window gave it some decency this way, with the lights out.
It appeared he wasn't home at the moment so I made to look around. I switched on the lights and took off my boots, changing to his own house slippers. I untied my hair and switched on the air conditioning before going upstairs, ready to explore all the secrets he was hiding.
I was starting to understand why he had disapproved of cooking in the residences. It wasn't that he had a problem with meals being cooked here, it was simply because he couldn't stand having people around, especially random strangers lacking direction in their lives. Someone like him had a dark soul and his patience was undoubtedly limited. Having strangers create a nuisance around him was definitely going to put him off.
I jogged the stairs until I reached the third floor which was apparently the top one. I excitedly opened the door to the master bedroom and walked in. This_ sneaking into the alpha's bedroom_ reminded me of my lively and daring days in Oakley where I would seduce old bastards and go home with them after drugging them. They would usually fall asleep in Zayn's truck and we would sneak into their home, taking every valuables we could eye during our stay. But we never left without taking nude pictures and proof that he had brought me to his house. We used those media to blackmail them into giving us their paychecks. Really, I have done a lot of bad thing and was never a saint but everyone I'd fuck up totally deserved it.
Alpha Darwin's bedroom was even more depressing than the living rooms. They were all black walls and paintings; furniture and ceilings. It did not look like it was made for a person. If I had missed my way here, I could've speculated a demon lived in it. I wondered how he slept in here... in a room that was nothing but dark. It was intensely dark and really depressing. And the paintings on the wall, they had no signature so I figured out he had done some handwork to communicate how dark his mind was. There was a dark heart, pierced all over and splashed with different colors. Right over his bed, a wolf was held high with a rope around his neck and it looked like he was dying. By his mirror, there was a broken dark star pieced together but missed a part, and hence didn't shine.
They were great artworks, but disturbing. Merely looking at it and one could feel the torture; the pain and the lonely heart.
"What're you doing here?" I flinched when I heard his voice right behind me. I jumped back, turning to face him in panic. Darwin caught my hand, helping me to steady my legs and I bit my bottom lip, not sure of what to say.
Why does he have the habit of appearing out of nowhere?
"I came to find you." I replied honestly and he immediately released my hand. Darwin looked down at me, his gaze cold and unwelcoming. I could not tell if he was exactly mad at me or because of some other matter but I knew he didn't want me here and I couldn't survive it if he did not ease his temper.
"No one is allowed here." He said coldly.
Ava. I nodded, trying my best not to feel hurt by his words. Or at least, not to show it. He seemed to have forgotten his promise to take me to meet his mom today. And I seemed to have become too weak to give him the tongue lashing I had planned. "I'll leave then." I told him and turned to go, not bothering to bring up the meal I had brought for him. It was probably not my business also. After all, this wasn't a real marriage and no one was responsible for anyone. "Were you the one that brought in the food?" He asked when I reached the door and I stopped. "Yes," I replied, not turning to face him. However, I waited to see if he was going to say something about it but I gave up when it took so long to hear a word from him. "Alright. Wait downstairs for me, I'm going to change." My heart leapt happily when he did not ask me to leave or try to scold me for poking my nose into his daily routine after just one day of being in his life. Even to me, it seemed like I was moving too fast
Ava."Ever since what?" I asked, curious about why I've never heard of him until now. Of course, I'm still so new but as the alpha's twin, it's strange that there's barely been a mention of him. "Damien died." Olivia answered me herself and I turned to face her, shocked and sorry."It's been six years but I have refused to break the bond between us. I believe he sees me in the most difficult moment of my life and will be there to guide me and Rainbows when we need him." Her eyes sparkled as she spoke about him and she flicked her hair, a forlorn smile appearing on her face. I wasn't sure if she needed my pity or comfort, considering the fact that we weren't close in the first place. And I wasn't sure if it was crazy_ her idea of the dead being able to be give one solace_ or worse still, true. Perhaps, there had always been a tiny part of me that never overlooked the fact that I never got to know my mother and maybe that tiny part wanted to know...to know if she loved me or not; if I
Ava."Darwin says you're a nice girl." Zenobia, Darwin's mother said, placing a slice of chocolate cake on my plate. She was beautiful and looked, without doubt, too young to have given birth to someone as old as Darwin. She looked like she was still in her twenties with the fairest of skin and most infecting smile ever. Looking at her, being cheerful and forever young, I was starting to think I might've been better as a vampire than a werewolf. "Did he?" I glanced over at Darwin where he sat across the hall, sipping on his wineglass while a gang of youngsters crowded him. He held his usual cold and intimidating look that made it seem like he knew everything that was going on in every other person's head. Well, maybe he knew. I couldn't help but notice how attractive he was, even when doing nothing. Even with that straight face and cold look, he still looked irresistible. "Yes. Usually, he would go for ladies that are several years older than him. When he told me I would like you,
Ava. "Nakayla, are you alright?" Halsey stood up worriedly as I stomped back to their booth. He rushed forward to me and caught my drunk self in his arms but I didn't want him to hold me longer. I struggled and tried to writhe free from his grip. I desperately wanted to question Adele."I didn't intend to get her drunk but she kept pushing further." Renata said behind me. She fisted the sides of her skirt fearfully beside me and tore it, even. The wine was weird_ it heightened my senses and made me pay attention to these things. Or I was tipsy, really."You're just some bad news, aren't you?" Adele scowled at Renata as she stood up with the rest of the guys. "Why are you even here? You should just disappear like you've always done." That was harsh. Definitely, it wasn't just about the drink. "T... This has nothing t..to do with our fight. I.. just came here for fun and..." Renata stuttered pitifully. Yoshimi stepped in their middle and grabbed her before she could resume her state
Ava.The way he called my name...The way those words sounded helplessly seductive leaving his lips despite the menace they were meant to pass. No one ever talked to me like that or made me feel this way_ submissive and rendered to their will. I wrapped my hand around it and tried to imitate those adult actresses when they give a handjob. I could barely get my hand around the whole of it but I made do with what I could hold. He was... fucking huge. Now, the more I thought about it, the more it felt like he really meant all those threats he gave me about fucking me till I could no longer move. "Come here now. Open your mouth better." He held the back of my head and brought me even closer. I needn't be told to take off my hands, I was perhaps doing it the wrong way. He put his erection into my mouth and held my jaw firmly. With his two hands holding my head, I couldn't move back or stop him if I wanted to. I rolled my eyes up to him and saw that a corner of his lips was curled up as he
Ava."Ava, how's married life?" Eric asked, drawing a stool by my side. He'd finally done what I had expected him to do_ come over and practice his silly interviewing skills. I nodded inattentively and rolled my eyes to his friends' booth. Eric moved around with a bunch of self obsessed gamblers who drank all day and partied all night. He was the most silly among them, with more bravery than sense and that's why each time he made some big money, he always ended up losing it in that one night and never left the club until he was drained of cash. And again, he had proven his stupidity before me. Change was surely a hard thing. "It's better than being drained in debts all my life, Eric. We should talk of when you're finally going to pay up all your debtors or if you're actually here to borrow some from me now." Of course, I had no fucking money but I knew Oakley Backwoods too much. Here, words went around faster than the wind and even a day old infant must've known that I had married
Ava."She is going to be fine. It looks like she'll come out of her sleep soon enough and you'll be able to talk to her." That voice wasn't very familiar but my senses had gotten better and the spinning headache that I had been struggling with had gone. It was a relief. The only thing I had to fight now was this numb feeling and the darkness that enveloped me. I felt limp and helpless. "How long is she going to be asleep?" That voice belonged to father, or it just sounded similar to his. Even if I was on my deathbed, I wouldn't expect him to miss a game to visit. I couldn't recollect what exactly had happened. The last thing I remember was dressing up as a maid and sneaking out of the palace. I had run all the way to the fields and managed to get help from a local jackal. It had been a miracle but I couldn't be bothered to think much about it. I had gone to the palace with Jared, only to find out it was only a trick to lure me into their trap. The rest of the incident had eluded my
Ava."Ava, how are you?" Zayn asked as he and the rest of the gangs except Jared walked into the room. They all came by my side and Zayn sat on the chair beside the bed. He, of them all, looked especially pale and haggard. "I am fine." I said, wishing they had come a little later. I could've had time to grieve my failed marriage, at least. "Where is Jared?" "Don't try that shit next time, Ava. I ought to have told you before you left but Zayn told me not to." Tristan's lips twitched downwards as he glanced around his environment. After his mom died in one, he despised hospitals the most and wouldn't often visit because he couldn't hold his temper so long in one. At a time, there had been several sequential incidents where he had ruined the hospital facilities and beat up their doctors. It almost landed him in Edward's courtyard but his father had been a loyal servant and an old friend of dad. Even with his temper, he was still the most patient and honest of us all. "Tell me what?"
Ava."Where is the celebrant?" Adele asked, handpicking desserts for herself. She was the last person to arrive, it wasn't so surprising. "He had something urgent to attend to." I told her, wiping my mouth. Mea had been crying ceaselessly in her grandmother's arms and it was pitiful enough to watch the both. Zenobia had made a lot of effort to try to calm the little princess but it wasn't working. "Here, let me have her." I stretched my arms forward and collected her from her."The little tigress doesn't like me at all. It's such a pity, her elder sister and I were inseparable when she was little." Zenobia managed to express her pride and sufferings in those two sentences. I laughed and kissed my baby, giving her no reply about her remarks. Mea had immediately quietened down once she was in my arms. "See, she is in love with her mother." Zenobia continued to express her bitterness over the issue. You would've thought it was something so important. "Your first daughter is just li
Ava."I think this one is more conservative and fits me more, Tessa." I smiled as I caressed the diamond stone that complimented the thin necklace around my neck. It was more enviable in comparison to the gold chain, yet very simple. "Yes, yes. Everything fits you, my queen. That's because you're so beautiful!" We laughed. She had always had a sugar coated tongue, although she could be very plain and quite naive, that made her my favorite amongst the others. She had originally been introduced into the royal household as the new nanny sometime back but once I got to know her true self, I decided she was worthy enough to be the housekeeper. I sighed and stood up and swirled around to face the full-length mirror. The reflection that stared back at me was very satisfying. The blue ball gown was a good choice, indeed."I like it." I said to no one in particular.Perhaps, I could wear more of this color in the future."You're very gorgeous, my queen. No maiden or lady could compare to
Ava."Do you dare to?" Six pairs of eyes had turned towards the entrance, stunned by that voice."Darwin!" I had sprung forward and writhed free from Olivia's now weak grip, taking that she was distracted."Darwin! Darwin...!" I had jumped into his arms, only to be shocked with the sound of a gunshot. For one, I found it difficult to believe I hadn't been shot. It was a task convincing myself that I wasn't already dead but still very alive and unharmed.Darwin's kiss reassured me of the fact and I blinked my lids as I slowly turned to see what had transpired within the past seconds. "You fucking betrayer!" Olivia cursed, her eyes turning bright red with fury. The bullet had narrowly missed her and gone through the wall behind her, causing a few blocks to break. "Sick woman!" Zayn spat and tossed the gun away. And he had transformed with a growl. Zayn's wolf was a red hairy one that I had always found admirable and different amongst others but in such a situation, I was convinced t
Ava."Is it true?" I turned to Takeshi, "Will feeding him with my blood fasten his recovery?""I think we could try that too. There's a high chance it'll do him a lot of good but I can't assure you anything. I haven't seen him in this state ever, taking his identity as a special being."Too much information there. "Okay. Okay." I wasn't interested in their history together,"Let's get to action then."The longer we delayed, the more dangerous the situation got."What? What? No, there's no way I'll let you lose any blood in your state, Ava. Nothing can happen to you too." Zenobia blurted, grabbing the razor Takeshi was supposed to hand over to me.I frowned, "Zenobia, I'll be fine."Nobby shook her head, her expression as fierce and determined, "That was what you said when I let you leave earlier. I won't forgive myself if I let you put yourself to risk just because you feel responsible. "She was right. I was most especially responsible for all of this and I wasn't retreating when it
Ava."Hey, are you okay?" I was stirred back to consciousness by Celia's continuous tapping on my left arm.I snapped my eyes open and gasped for breath. Fuck! That had been too sudden and totally unexpected. "Yea, I am." I brushed my hair back and nodded my head quickly. I was still quite in shock about the whole thing that had transpired. That was Marianne Sauber... and I felt her anguish. It was so painful... I don't even dare to imagine such. Takeshi had told me that I could see visions about those I had felt their pain, if I ever wanted to. But I had never seen mom, not to talk of healing her... what was happening? My phone's continuous ringing brought me out of my thoughts and I took it out from the purse. The name that flashed on the screen relieved me a bit."Darwin!" I called out as I placed the phone by my ear, "I am not fine."I didn't realize how terrified I was until a tear slid down my right cheek. I quickly wiped it away with my thumb and rubbed my nose. "What hap
Ava.Diane helped her sit up straight against the wall, a pillow supporting her head. I didn't know where to start. Or rather I'd say I was still trying to figure it all out."Ahem!" Diane pulled forward an empty chair for me to sit in.That was at least better than being too shocked or too lost."So where do you come from, young lady?" She asked once I'd settled down. Celia's wandering eyes paused momentarily, and then continued, glancing especially back at Diane and I. It was creepy. "I am from Oakley Backwoods." She said after some time.It seemed she was really healed but it was weird enough_ she was yet to say something about my presence."We shall contact your people and...""No!" She had cut her off and hopped out of bed immediately. "I don't want to go there. Do not take me back, please." She panicked for a while before rushing to my side and getting on her knees. She held my leg and started crying sooner than I would've figured, "He will kill me if you take me back ther
Ava.Why did that sound like the most ridiculous apology ever?Yoshimi was simply insane but what was even more crazy was the drama behind it.So...Heidi liked Halsey even when he liked Renata but he couldn't be with Renata because he doesn't want to break her and he hadn't forgiven Renata for being in a fake relationship with Darwin? But Renata thinks she and Yoshimi could be a thing and wants to keep his baby? It's none of his fault, is it?"I thought we agreed that you wouldn't be concerned about that whore, Halsey?" Heidi stepped forward and tugged at his sleeve.Wait, they are really together? How come I missed that information? "Don't call her a whore, Heidi. I'm not that patient."Heidi sniggered, "She's played the three of you _ Darwin; Yoshimi and you. What does that make her?""Renata was in a fake relationship with Darwin. There was nothing else between them." Or who exactly amongst us was mistaken? I or they? "That doesn't matter. She's a witch that once threatened to
Ava."Does Darwin know?" I asked as I examined the two dresses I held in my hands. One was a plain white slip-on gown, it was a simple look but the sequin designs at the sides along with the white rose at the waistline added a touch of elegance to it. The other was a red gown that screamed bad ass. It had thin straps and needed to be laced at the sides, plus the neckline was really low. Originally, if I were still that old Nakayla that didn't have to consider her position as a queen and an expecting mother, I would've directly gone for the red dress. But the white dress was more likely to hide my bump a little so I dropped the red one."I didn't tell him. He wouldn't approve of it if I had." She said as I walked over to the full-length mirror to see how I'd look in the dress.I nodded. She was right _ Darwin wouldn't allow us to do this if he knew about it in the first place. The dress wasn't so bad. It made me look noble and classy so I wasn't exactly being too much. It was enough
Ava."We've searched everywhere and sent out fliers but there has been no result. I am beginning to lose hope, Ava. I don't want her to die...Can you help me talk to your husband? Please, he can help."I knew it..!"Bullshit!" I slammed the table, getting on my feet at once. "I hope you do find her dead body." I stomped out of the room and left despite his calls and pleads.I couldn't believe what he just did. Could greediness be anymore real? And Celia was missing? It was less likely that she had gone missing or even wanted to be found. I thought Edward really had her under his watch. Alas, she finally got away with all her sins. I wasn't interested in worrying over her whereabouts. I had something even more pressing to think of.Yoshi...How did him impregnating someone have to deal with Darwin? What was the connection there? Should I tell Darwin about the text I saw? Or not?I pulled myself together and cleared all these sensitive thoughts from my head once I'd gotten in Darwin's
