Cole:
The human girl makes me dizzy.
She has olive skin with a tinge of red by her cheekbones. And the freckles on the edge of her cheekbones reminds me of the stars half-hiding in the rosy-pink clouds before the sunset. The sunset I always dream of in my nightmares.
“I’ve never seen a girl having such a sweet tooth. ” Avery, one of the twin boys, accosts her with a smile.
“I do physical exercise every day.”
Avery’s gaze runs over her beautiful body. “Yeah. You don’t have to limit your sugar intake to me. What sports do you do? Maybe I’d join you next time.”
My wolf is agitated. I don’t like her, but I hate it more that Avery’s flirting with her.
“Nobody cares about what you think. And if you really must know, I always do the sports which can make condescending assholes behave politely, especially to ladies. ”
“No babe, you got it wrong, I save all my respect for the ladies. Cole can testify, right?”
No way. I clinched my teeth to contain my wolf’s growl.
Weirdly, she glances at me quickly and replies to Avery as calmly as just now. “I’m not your babe, asshole.” Then her sparkling indomitable eyes fix on me. “Is there any rules about taking how many pieces of a dessert?”
Why do her eyes feel so familiar?
Suddenly, my nightmares flash back. I shake my head to shake off the sad segments.
“No. Help yourself but remember, we do have rules and you’ll learn from me soon.”
“Well good luck with that. I don’t conform to narcissistic assholes so you might learn from me instead”
I raise my chin.
This is why I don’t agree with Uncle Derek about allowing humans into our territory. They are just of indocility, though this one is quite pretty. We’re the largest, wealthiest and strongest pack, and PSA, the No.1 security company in the world, was founded by my grandfather to utilize our wolf senses to protect weak creatures like humans. But now, I, taking part in PSA since 16 as an enforcer, have to act just like a human.
I turn around and take my group out of the cafeteria, realizing that humans are not the worst part of this camp: the famous Jewel Coven from Bloomer University are here too.
Uncle Derek always asks me to be civil with those witches because of the recent treaty; and technically allowing the humans in can make them stop being suspicious that there is something supernatural here, and also make them the buffer amongst us wolves and the witches.
Bullshit.
Witches are vile, manipulative and they will just wait for when they can stab you in the back or more murder your entire pack.
How do I know?
They destroyed my family.
“Hey, look on the bright side, new chicks so fresh meat.” Uncle Derek’s son Skye winks at me.
“Like Sherry?” I notice the red-haired slut girl clinging to Skye all the way has been finally driven away to her people.
“Your plan for Sherry ain’t working? What a shame!” Skye’s sister Sam mocks.
“Damn! That chick is crazy, no matter how much I try to bore the shit out of her, she still sticks like a bad smell. I’m just grateful for not sleeping with her. She seems like the type who will force a mating onto you by telling the elders I took her virginity.” Skye drags a hand through his hair. “But Dad wants me on my best behavior because her uncle is the Alpha of the neighbor pack. ”
I roll my eyes. Sherry’s uncle sent her here to mate with Skye and become Luna of our pack for securing his alliance with us. She surely is acting as if she is in charge already by bossing some of the lower pack members. But she never achieves what she wishes because the next Alpha of our pack will be me.
The present Alpha, Uncle Derek, is my father’s fraternal twin brother. They have different facial features, personalities and life choices. Dad gave up the Alpha title because Mum wanted to travel around the world. So Uncle took over his job. But when he resigned, I’ll carry on the Alpha duty as I should do. Thanks to the Moon Goddess that Sherry doesn’t know the truth.
And I refuse to settle down with just anyone so our pack can have a Luna. The only person that will stand at my side is my Silver.
After the orientation patrol in the cafeteria, we go to the auditorium. Uncle Derek called a PSA pack meeting there while the visiting universities are stuck in the dorms.
“All right everyone, I know this evening is going to be the start of the longest three months of our life but if you really think about it, we are actually killing two birds with one stone: The humans that were poking around our area for our privacy have been shut with the internship, and the witches from the Jewel Coven have been roped to solidify our treaty now. ”
I look at my uncle standing on the podium where my father used to stand.
“I want all wolves attending campus to behave well, especially the enforcer candidates.” He turns to me with a meaningful look. “We need to maintain our appearance. So the shifting has been scheduled. As well as enforcer training has been relocated to the back of the mansion. Eat in the cafeteria. Never skip classes. Use the gym with the proper restraint that we have agreed on.”
That elicited groans from majority of the pack members.
“I know it is going to be hard but if we want to continue to enjoy our hard-earned peace, we are going to have to sacrifice a bit now. We do not want the humans questioning us. Just keep this in your mind: it is in your hands to let this pack stay honored and true for what we stand for!”
“Honor, Truth and Peace!” The entire pack says together.
Uncle Derek nods his head towards us. “Okay then. Assistants for incoming university students will be led by Beta Marie; enforcers and trainees go to your enforcer head Ty for the new roster and patrolling plans. Dismiss!”
As we head towards Ty, the twins Andre and Avery catches up to us.
“What’s the enforcer training exactly for?” Avery asks Ty throwing an arm over my shoulders. I shrug it off and scowl at him; I don’t like to be touched by anyone.
“To you guys, the training will make you blend into human society. You’ll be sent to the human police department for investigation missions. ”
My scowl shifts to Ty. “You know my alpha vibes will definitely expose my strength. The humans might find out I’m not part of them and be unwilling to cooperate with us. We can’t afford for that because I need the witches to continue thinking that I am not a threat.”
“Exactly, that’s why this is your task. Besides the training, you’re also in charge of keeping our wolves from having fights with humans and witches in this university. So restrain yourself.” Ty says sternly. “When you see how badly other creatures are injured, hurt, and even murdered, you will understand how significant your job is.”
“I’ll only understand how weak they are and how unworthy to know them.” I mutter to him. But the next moment, the brave human girl’s face jumps out of my mind.
No, she won’t be an exception.
Emma: After enjoying the delicious meal and tart, we go to the auditorium for orientation. Cole and his “Paradigm Royalty Group” (a nickname Lei came up with for them) are taking their seats in the center as we walk in. He and I have an eye contact when I pass him by, which sends shivers down my spine. Grrrrrr... I stop and frown. There’s a restless growl somewhere but I don’t see any animal around. And it seems like nobody notices that except me. Cole looks away. I start to suspect that I just had an illusion because of his influence on me. Liz grabs me to sit down. She and Shanny, with the other students from Paradigm University sit in the front row of this aisle; Lei and I with the students from Trinity Universi
Cole: Emma. I think deeply, trying to figure out why her name sounds so familiar to me. But Rachel’s stagy voice is so annoying. “...We have the glass broken on the door, the dishes broken on the floor, and the blood splattered on the counter. There is a note that makes it like a suicide but the hand writing is rushed with a bit of blood droplets on it. And if we take a look at the body hanging from the fan, there is no chair anywhere around. So how could the dead hang himself? Besides, there’s hair on his clothes that does not belong to him. All of these mean he was murdered by someone.” I don’t like the superior and scornful way Rachel looks at Emma. Both of them are humans, weak and mediocre. She’s no better than Emma. “Well then Emma, what’s your deduction?” Dete
Emma: Sam is a nice, well-trained pair, even though she’s one of those snobs. We went blow for blow, really having fun until the beast growl started to haunt me. I ask Sam to stop and take a water break. My mouth is dry, not only because of the training, but also for catching a glimpse of Cole’s muscular arms. His t-shirt, which has become semitransparent, practically sticks to his sculpted body. I can almost feel the droplets of sweat carrying heat running over his skin. The beast keeps growling, sometimes excitedly, sometimes irritably. I’m not sure it’s from Cole or Avery because this pair are too close. They are good fighters with graceful movements. But I find myself hard to focus on both of them because my attention is always drawn back to Cole.
Cole: The yoga pants gluing to her body perfectly shows her body shape. She’s not skinny but more curvaceous. I see a tattoo on her lower back when her t-shirt rolled up as she raised her hands to coil her black hair into a bun. Every time she moves, the tattoo ripples on her silky skin. My wolf growls. I feel dizzy again. She suddenly turns around with her fear blowing to me. I become alert and tense my body. “You shouldn’t be here now.” It’s my shift to patrol around. I realized by scent that someone was in the gym. I thought it was because of the distance that the scent was ambiguous. She must have walked along the path near the forest to the gym. And dawn is dangerous for a human girl, especially here. We have wolves everywhere; besides, God knows what those witc
Emma: "What kind of monster are you? How are you even real? And who the hell are you calling a witch? Do I look like a fucking witch to you" I try to shove his hands off my neck. He looks like a maniac. Cole looks at me with his brow furrowed. I know I am not going crazy, everything about him points to something supernatural that I have come across in books. He adds more pressure to my neck making it a bit difficult to breathe properly. "Don't play innocent here" "Maybe we should take a few steps back" Gryphon interrupts. "What the hell is going on?" some guy screams and Cole's hands on my neck relaxes and I use all my strength to shove him off me. "She is a witch Ty" Cole points towards me. "No I am not and you are a monster" I try to get as far as I can away from him but he catches me by the back of my shirt. "I can solve this" Gryphon pipes in and we all turn towa
Emma: I am running again in the forest and the beast is just behind me. The exit of the woods seems so close and just as I turn out I come across a field full of wolves fighting with other wolves. There is different colors in the air and I can see people standing there. I turn looking for someone but I can't remember who. I run to the middle and something slams into me from behind. Then I see Lei and she is on fire. I can't control the pain that radiates through me and I fall. I awake with a splitting headache. I look towards the clock and it is after 6, well I have to admit that is first time. For the past two years my nightmare always woke me at 4. Rubbing my eyes I turn towards Lei and she is sitting there staring at me. “What?” “Who are you and what have you done to my best friend?” I look at her with confusion “Huh?” “You are late for work” “Oh shit” I run into the bath room and see that I have my sport
Cole:I was having such a relaxing evening and then trouble came in the form of Emma. I tried my best to keep my eyes off her when she was on the dance floor but once Malcom put his hands on her my wolf took over. Avery just agitates him more by flirting with Emma. I keep reminding my wolf that we belong to Silver.“What the hell is your problem?” Emma asks and I turn towards her and get a proper look of her up close and her scent fills my senses and my wolf starts fighting for control again. Wanting to show everyone that she belongs to us. I manage to shove him back and notice that Emma was not talking to Malcom but to me.“Come again” I say.“I could have handled that myself” she shoves me.“No doubt, trouble” I smirk at her because I know that pisses her off.“Huh?” she looks at me in confusion. Memory can be such a fickle thing.“Well what do expect to happen to you
Emma:Of course having a shitty night and tons of alcohol does not even stop the dreams from flooding in and here I am up at 4am. I have a quick shower and head out of the silent dorm because who would be up this early.I head to the gym and see that it is closed, I can’t take it I need to let out all this excess energy so ignore the rules and put my air pods on and strap my phone to my thighs and start to run. I know the route in the back of my head so I close my eyes and continue a head. The only good thing is that the running trail does not go into the forest.A sense of peace settles in me and I let my body do all the work.So caught up running I stumble on something, opening my eyes I see piece of a bloody arm on the ground and I let out a scream into the dead silence thinking that I am in my dream and that the monster is going to come for me next. I shut my eyes in the hopes that I am just imagining things.Someone grabs me and I scream
Cole:As soon as I felt something wrong in the air, I raced towards her room. When the earth started to shake my wolf pushed me even faster and then I threw myself over her.“Cole” she says as she begins to shiver so I rub my hands on her arms “I’m here”The ground then stops shaking and Em is practically frozen now and barely moving. I lift her from her best-friend who looks at her in concern and place her flat on the ground. Her body is so cold to the touch and my wolf is panicking and a small groan comes out.“Is she okay? Did something happen to her?” she places her hand against Em’s forehead and pulls back “Shit she is ice… do I need to hold her hand like yesterday?”I nod my head knowing I should do something but my body can’t move. I never even care for my pack, my first instinct was Em but she is my mate they would understand.Lei grabs Em’s hand and starts rubbing it and then Skye comes flying through the door with Sam behind him “Everyone okay?” he asks but his gaze is fixed
Cole: In a matter of minutes my life changed. The hope that I held onto has finally became a reality, at times I thought that I would never see her again. And then she turned out to be the one thing that I was avoiding. The person that I thought was making me betray my Silver turned out to be my Silver. What an absolute clusterfuck! I slam the stuff off the table. ‘I can’t do this now’ rings in my ears as I picture her running away from me and my wolf eats at me to chase her. Skye rushes into the room and pauses “Cole?” he calls out. I look at him knowing that he is my best friend, family and brother. He pulls me away from the broken shit on the floor “It will be okay, just give her some time. She is still in shock that her life took a complete 180 degree turn” “She is strong, I don’t think that her finding out that she is a supernatural is affecting as much as the fact that betrayed her. I betrayed my mate and she wants nothing to do with me” “I don’t think she wants anything t
Emma: We are back in that medical room and my mind is spinning, the last time that I was here… Cole had Gryphon remove my memories. He allowed him to tamper with my mind. I let out a growl of frustration and it seems to be heightened by what’s inside of me. ‘You know I have a name right’ the voice says distracting from wanting to attack all the people in this room and letting Lei have free reign to burn it all down. ‘Wow that’s dark’ the voice continues. ‘Yeah well I know monsters are created not born’ I say back ‘and what should I call you?’ ‘Moon Goddess’ and I laugh. Lei looks out at me weirdly. I shrug my shoulders “I have a voice in my head now” “Come again” she screeches out. I roll my eyes at her “There is a voice in my head that says that she is a Goddess” at that everyone in the room looks at me and start speaking at once. “Did you just say goddess?” “This is so insane” “Damn spitfire”
Emma: I remember now… they kept on erasing my memories and I thought that I was going crazy. I look at Cole and I touch my lips. I kissed him first and he removed that. I ignore the intense voice insisting that he is what I need but I shove him away from me “Don’t touch me” and I move closer to Lei. Lei looks at me “Can someone please explain what the hell is happening? Did you do this to us?” She points her hand at Gryphon and fire shoots out of her finger and it barely misses his ear. “ARGH” she jumps up waving her hand as the fire starts to spread “Help, I’m on fucking fire” “You’re a fire elemental” Gryphon holds his hand to his ear and I think that this might not really be happening… maybe I am dreaming. “Put it out. Put it out” she keeps on screaming but it does not look like she is actually getting harmed. I am so dreaming, wow it seems so real. ‘You are not dreaming girl, she is so on fire’ I hear and look around but ev
Cole:We were losing people on both ends, witches and wolves were dying. The dark witch is too powerful and the monster heals very quickly. Cinnamon infiltrates my nose and then I turn my head as I see Emma jumping in the middle of the witches. All the magic hit her and I feel so dizzy as if I am going to die. We all start howling as does the black monster.I run towards her but I am shoved back by some form of magic and change back to my human form. My wolf enraged that he can’t get to Emma and keeps growling at anyone else that comes close.I shake my head as everyone has come to a standstill as the smoke clears from the area. There is a silver and red shield over both the girls and I can barely see them. I hear a scream and turn to see that uncle Aiden had taken a piece of flesh out of the dark witch. She then vanishes and appears next to the monster and they both disappear.Skye shifts next to me “What the fuck just happened?” he ask
Cole: Tonight we have the hopes of catching the witch but it is as if the forest is on her side. That toxic smell permeates it completely confusing the shit out of all of us. We joined forces with the Jewel coven and some of them are working on the spell to contain the witch, while others cast a spell on the dorms so that the rest of the humans sleeps through the ensuing chaos about to take place. Some of wolves up ahead starts to chase something and that triggers my senses to zone in, I hear something huge and heavy treading through the forest. I shift and start chasing, I can only see flashes of something black and it is moving very fast. Then a scream pierces the forest and light shoots into the sky… a witch just died. We move in that direction until we come across an open field and a hooded figure is dancing around a mutilated body on the ground. I can barely make out the face but I know that it is a female. “Come on’ welcome to my party”
Emma: I rub my lips as the overwhelming feelings crash over me and I keep losing focus. What in the ever-loving shit just happened? Cole kissed me. He kissed the shit out of me. Oh my god. I am so going freaking crazy. I’m pretty sure I saw myself running past me and then Cole crashes into me and takes my lips hostage. My body is such a traitor, Cole is an A-grade asshole but then my rational side turns to mush as soon as I come into contact with him. That heated sensations gives me a feeling of déjà vu and I picture myself in a room pressing my lips to Cole’s ones. “Are you okay?” Avery asks bringing me back to reality. I look at him in confusion and I notice that Cole left and anger starts to settle in. “I’m fine” I move away, I can’t handle this,
Emma: I awake with a splitting headache and take a look at my surroundings white walls, an IV connected to my veins and consistent beeping from the machine on the side of me. Hospital. I look to my side and see Lei fast asleep on a single chair with a blanket covering her. I try to sit up and the machine’s beeping increases… Lei rushes over to my side “You’re awake” she says pressing a button on the side of the bed. “I was so worried about you” I look at her confused “What happened?” “You had a concussion and were in a temporary coma for about 18 hours” I can’t remember a thing. Every time I try to focus I get this stabbing pain in my head. “Don’t do that” Skye says as he walks into the room dressed in a white coat and a stethoscope around his neck. A doctor. Never would have guessed what with his body shape and all. “What do you mean?” I ask. “Stop forcing yourself to remember, you will only make it worse.” He says as
Cole: My wolf has been going insane with pride ever since I entered the room and when I realized that Emma was using my shirt I was in complete shock. For a wolf’s scent to be on someone is a sign as marking them. Trying to force my wolf back, I did not see Emma move and the next thing I know her lips press against mines and then it was as if fireworks went off throughout my entire body. I was completely unable to force my wolf back. He was in complete control and all he wanted was this trouble in front of me. He wanted all of her, he does not even care that she is human. “What are you?” she asks with some distance between us and I move away quickly. I use all my strength and shove my wolf aside putting up a mental wall to block him from influencing my actions “You were in a coma so there will be side effects. Skye wants to do a check-up” She continues to look at me shocked and then her hand touches her lips and that intense feeling courses th
