~JESSICA~
I don’t know why, but I closed my eyes as my lips waited for him. That's when he suddenly pulled away, and I shot my eyes open.
“I have to make a call; you know the bedroom. Make yourself comfortable; I’ll join you in a bit,” he said as he gave me his back. I knew where the bedroom was, so I seized the opportunity and rushed to it.
As I locked the door behind me, I caught some breaths. Exhaling out loud. “Shit!” I cursed as I made my way to the bed and took my phone from my purse.
"Hi, what’s up?” Loren said as soon as she picked.
“Hi…” I was panting.
“Jess, are you okay? What’s wrong?”
“No, he kidnapped me.”
“What? How can your own husband kidnap you?” She joked, but I was not in the mood.
“Wait, did you give him my number?”
“I’m kidnapped, and you’re here asking for his number?” She was truly shameless.
“You don’t want him; let me try my luck now.”
"Okay, talk to you tomorrow,” I said and ended the call, ignoring her request. I sat on the bed still catching my breath when he started knocking.
“Love, can you please open the door? I'm sleepy,” he said while knocking on the door, but I was not going to share the room with him; that’s just unacceptable.
“No, make yourself comfortable on the couch; I’m not sharing the bed with you,” I said.
“What? But it’s my bed, and besides, it’s not like it’s our first time.”
“Suit yourself, I’m sleepy!” I shouted to him as I made my way to the bathroom, disregarding his plea.
I removed my clothes and walked to the shower. I washed my body, still thinking of ways I would deal with this situation. I didn’t want to take revenge on Jade anymore; he didn’t betray me; he fulfilled a dying girl's wish. I just prayed he would never find out that I slept with his uncle and, worse, married him. I needed to sort this out as soon as possible.
I was now done washing my body. After drying my hair and applying lotion to my body, I wrapped the towel around my body and walked back to the bedroom. Only to spot him sleeping on the bed in nothing but underwear.
“Of course he has a key,” I said to myself as I walked up to him. I was naked; I didn't wear anything under; there was no way I was going to sleep next to him and expect nothing to happen.
“Hello?!” I called out loud for his attention, which he successfully ignored as he just changed his sleeping position, “Great, just great,” I gave up and went to the bed and grabbed a pillow and pulled the blanket from him. He just continued groaning as if he didn’t hear anything. I went in the living room to the couch and made myself comfortable.
——-
I woke up to the sound of an alarm. I was shocked to find myself on the bed and naked.
“Fuck!” I cursed as I slammed the alarm on the table.
The mysterious man was nowhere near; my attention was caught by the file on the table and a ring on top of it. He must be a comedian to even think I’ll wear his ring. I grabbed the file, making the ring fall to the floor; I didn’t care. I just wanted to find this man’s name, as I had forgotten it last time.
“Clinton?” I read out loud in disbelief.
I quickly searched for my phone and called my friend, who picked up the first ring.
“I was just about to call you; tell me what happened.”
“I don’t know; I was on the couch and just woke up naked in the bed he slept in.” I panicked—did he perhaps take advantage of me?
“Wait what?”
“Yes.”
"Alright, calm down. Are you sure you don’t remember anything?”
“I don’t.”
“Okay fine, dress up, get your stuff, and come here; I’ve taught you how to manipulate a man; use your lessons,” she advised, and disconnected, after taking in a deep breath I went to the shower to get my clothes, only to find my bra and panties there.
“What? Where's my dress?” I asked myself as I put on my undies and went to his wardrobe. I found his silk pajamas, and I put them on. I made my way to the living room, and luckily his house help was not here. I made my way to the door only to find it locked.
“Fuck!” I cursed and called out for his house help, but she wasn’t here; of course today is Saturday; she was off. Well, I guess I’m trapped here. I walked back to the couch and switched on the TV.
——
It’s been two days; I spent my weekend by force with Clinton. That Saturday, when Clinton came back, I talked to him about divorce but he still refused. I didn’t push it; he didn’t even let me go to work. I pretended to be sick, and Loren covered for me.
I was now back in my apartment as he said he had a meeting outside the city. I honestly didn’t care; I even hoped he could stay there forever.
I took out my phone and found his text.
HUSBAND: Be good; don’t miss me too much. Love you.
He saved himself as my husband in my phone. I will fix that later for now, I just wanted to hear Jade’s voice, as he hasn't texted or called me since that day. “You better stay away from my husband, Jessica; you don’t want me to come after you.” It was Lucy who picked up and hanged.
What?
Jade now lets her have his phone? I quickly called Loren for advice. “Spill,” she said as soon as she picked up.
"Jade, let’s her have his phone. I mean, why would he do that? And you know what’s funnier, he hasn't tried to contact me all this weekend. Now I call him, and this Lucy girl picks up. What does he take me for?…” I said all at once, I didn't even realise Loren was laughing.
“I’m lost; what’s funny?”
“You refused Clinton because of this Jade guy knowing fully well that the guy is married,” she sounded like she was scolding me.
“I see calling you was a mistake.”
“The truth hurts Jessie; can’t you see Jade is just playing you? He’s obviously laughing at you right now." Loren never liked Jade.
"Okay, I’m hanging up.”
“And what? Try Jade’s number so you get insulted by his wife again. Jessie, you’re smarter than that.”
“I don’t know what gave her the right to talk to me in that manner when I’m actually doing her a favor.”
“Are you sure that’s the same story Jade has told her?” Her question made sense.
“What do you want me to do?” I was desperate.
“I will come by the house later and will tell you what to do. Be good, okay,” she said before hanging. I knew she might be with her boyfriend or at work.
I couldn’t even cry at this point. Instead, I just hit the shower, so I prepare for work. I'll clock in early today. Pretending to want to make up for the weekend when really I just wanted to ease my brain and I knew a couple of shots would do the trick.
———
It’s been days; I haven’t heard anything from Jade or Clinton. I was at my favorite grocery store with a trolley as I picked up groceries.
My thoughts were on Jade; he hasn't been responding to my texts even when it shows that he had received them. Has he perhaps fallen for Lucy—impossible? I needed a way to remind him of how irreplaceable I was. I’ve sent him endless nudes but still no response.
Maybe I should visit him.
With that in mind, I hurriedly made my way to the fridge where they kept yogurt so I could get his favorite, and that’s when my trolley hit another customer's trolley.
“I’m so sorry I-”
“Of course you are, prostitute,” my apology was cut short. It was Lucy, but how did I bump into Jade's sick wife?
“I’m surprised a prostitute also goes shopping." Her comment stirred something in me.
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me right, prostitute. So you thought what? Your fake body could make my husband cheat on me.”
“Wait what?”
"Listen, I was very nice to you the time you showed up at my house because I thought you didn’t know about my marriage, but you seducing him after learning the truth is just ridiculous. Like I know you do it for money, but please leave the married man off your table,” she accused.
“Seducing your husband?” I was stunned and was about to throw it in her face that I knew Jade was only married to her because she was about to die, but luckily Jade showed up. He kissed her cheeks and asked what was happening.
“Jade, you told her I was seducing you?” I asked him as I disregarded their little chat.
“I mean those weird night texts and nudes; I guess that’s what they call them, right?” He turned to his wife, who had a huge smile on her face. I knew Jade was doing this not to hurt her, but it made my heart ache. I watched as he held her hands and led her away.
As they disappeared, I left the trolley there and rushed out of the shop—holding in tears. I stopped a cab, which drove me to my apartment.
After paying the cab driver, I rushed to my apartment. Maggie was waving at me in a way, asking me to go to her, but I ignored her this time.
My door was unlocked; I knew it could only be Jade, so he rushed here after embarrassing me?
“Listen, Jade, I don’t think I can take this any longer you need to…" I stopped myself as I realized it wasn’t Jade, "Clinton?"
How did he get into my apartment?
~JESSICA~“Clinton, how did you get in here?” I asked as I removed my coat.“Is that how you greet your husband?” He sounded serious.“What’s that smell?” I asked and then walked to the kitchen.“I tried to cook, but it didn't turn out well,” he followed behind me, and it turned out the smell was from burnt eggs. I couldn’t hold my laughter.“So you’re telling me you can’t even fry eggs?” “Yes, why are you laughing?” He looked so innocent.“You never learnt to cook?” I asked,“Why learn when you can just employ someone to do it? The thing is, I didn’t know I would one day wake up married, or I could have learned." He confessed. No matter how angry I was at him, I just couldn’t help but feel butterflies in my stomach. Jade had never even once tried to cook for me. “Let’s eat out.” He invited, snapping me back to reality.“Of course, let me just put on a clean dress,” I said and quickly left the kitchen. I couldn’t afford to start feeling something for this man. He was my fiancé's unc
~JESSICA~She pushed me aside and let herself in, I landed on the floor on my butt.“Jade! Where the fuck are you?” She screamed. Jade came running with his pants between his legs.“Babe, I'm so sorry.” He started apologizing to her; I was still on the floor now watching them, “She seduced me; you know I'm a man. I don't even know how I got-”“Get to the car. Now!” She ordered him, and he went running. It really surprised me how he accused me of seducing him, “And you listen to me carefully...” She turned to me. I was still on the floor now looking at her; her confidence made me think maybe this was more than just a contract. “This is my second warning. I know you and Jade had some things going on, but that's the past, I'm his wife now. The sooner you accept that, the better for both of us.” She warned. “You don't want me to rest on you, trust me.” She then walked out. I didn't have the energy to even stand up and close my door; I just remained on the floor and cried my heart out.B
~JESSICA~Clinton drove us to his apartment. I didn't complain or say anything, as he had just saved my life. I was in the bathroom cleaning up, and when I was done, I went to his wardrobe and searched for his pajamas. I didn't want to put on just anything as I wanted to look attractive—well, I need money—clearly it's only him who could help me at this point, so seducing him was a great choice. I only put on his shirt, which only covered my ass. I went to the living room, and I spotted him in the kitchen; he had removed his shirt just in his trousers, and guess what? He was holding a pan. I stood by the door with crossed legs as I watched his moves. He was humming to a song, then as he turned, he noticed me.“Just in time for dinner, are you hungry?” He asked as he dished the food. My eyes were on his six packs; I've never seen such a sexy man in my life.“Maybe.” I playfully responded as I sat on the kitchen counter; he was avoiding eye contact with me.“You didn't find the pants?”
{Warning: Sexual Content Ahead!} ~JESSICA~“Are you okay?” He turned and asked, realizing my uneasiness. I nodded and cleared my throat; he was now parking exactly next to Jade’s car. “Why are we here?” I asked, trying to sound normal as I didn’t want him to suspect me. “You’ll see.” He said as he got out, I didn’t even wait for him to come open the door as I got out and walked to him. “It’s a beautiful view, right?” He asked and looked around. I just nodded, still uncertain of what was going on. We were now approaching Jade’s apartment; he was holding my hand, and I couldn’t make any excuse to get away, but luckily we entered the apartment opposite Jade's. That's when my heart settled back to its original place. “That’s my nephew's apartment,” he pointed, and I just nodded, knowing well that it was—as he was my fiancé. We entered inside; it was much bigger than the rest, even bigger than Jade’s. Inside, I noticed everything was new; there was a couch and a flatscreen in the
~JESSICA~He was looking around in disbelief, “I just got lucky; okay, my boss helped me get it.” I lied, and he looked relieved.“I see, so what? We're neighbors now? Jess, why did you even choose this location?”“Like I said, my boss chose it for me. Alright, thanks for bringing my bag. I'm busy now.” I said dismissing him as I playfully pushed him out of the bedroom.“Alright fine, I'll go because my wife needs me; you know her condition. But I'll come by later.” He sounded like he was trying to manipulate me.“No problem; see you later.” I hoped when he comes over he finds his uncle undressing me. As he left, I did a happy dance before calling Loren.“Jess, I'm so sorry. I didn't honestly mean to.” She apologized as soon as she picked up.“That’s okay, Loren; I think it happened for the best.”“Wait what? Spill girl.”"Well, there's a lot of tea; just come by this address.” I said.“On my way.” Hearing that, I hung up and sent her a text with the address.I quickly went to the livi
~JESSICA~“Jade, meet my wife Jessica, Jessica, my nephew, the one who stays in your neighborhood." Clinton introduced.“Lovely to meet you.” I brought out my hand with a smile on my face. This is what I wanted—to see his face when his uncle introduces me as his wife. His face didn't disappoint me; he looked exactly like I pictured him, and most importantly, he looked scared. Clinton held my hand as he led me in as if he knew what was happening.“This should be Jessica.” A lady took me in her arms as soon as we got inside. “Yes,” Clinton confirmed. She pulled away and hugged Clinton while I spotted Lucy seated on a couch; she was eyeing me in a way that one might think she had something to say.“I'm Grace—his only sister. Come and meet my daughter-in-law." She said, taking my hand as she led me to Lucy's side.“Darling, meet my sister-in-law; Jessica, meet Lucy.” She introduced us, and to think she was supposed to be my mother-in-law was just crazy.“A pleasure to formally meet you,
~JESSICA~“I know about you and my nephew. I know he is your ex-fiancé who got married without properly breaking up with you.” He revealed, I just remained silent and ashamed. Was this the end of me?“But listen,” he said and cupped my face. We were just alongside the road waiting for his car, “I have you now; maybe that’s how we are supposed to meet, so I please request you stop talking to him, and if he does, let me know. Promise?” He looked desperate, so I touched his hands from my cheeks.“I promise.” I said, meaning it. I was done with Jade. But I was not going to fall in love with Clinton—not after my experience with Jade.“I registered you this morning with a law firm; you’ll just attend for months, then you can get your qualification. I don’t need to ask you to quit your job, as I’ve already spoken to your boss.” “W-what?”“Yes, he charged me quite an amount though; he said he would come up with ways to make you quit.” He explained, which made me understand why he pushed me t
~JESSICA~We were seated across from each other as we had just finished ordering. I settled for water.“So you just want water?” He asked as the waitress walked away.“Yes, start talking.” I was a bit hush.“Well…” he cleared his throat and raked a hand through his hair.“I don’t have much time; talk, Jade.” I was already feeling guilty talking to him when Loren asked me to do the opposite. “Is he the one texting?” He asked as I glanced at my phone; it was actually Loren asking me to do what she said.“Yes,” I lied.He cleared his voice again before he started talking. "Well, you know how things turned out between us; I honestly didn’t expect them to go this way.” “Yeah, but at least we both found our true love, right?”“No.” I eyed him with a clueless look, “I told you my relationship with Lucy is a contract, only fulfilling her wish before she dies.” “I know, but the way you accused me of seducing you and your behavior with her.” “It was all a lie. Please know that I love you. An
I gently squeezed her hands and asked, “What did she say?”“Nothing, she only apologized and told me she's going to seek help,” she said. Even though she tried to hide her pain, I could still tell she was hurting for her—Sophia was her mother after all."Okay, that's good. What did you tell her?”“Nothing, I ended the call in her ear.”“Kiki…”"No, Mom, Sophia is an evil person, she doesn't deserve anyone's forgiveness.”“True, what Sophia did was bad.”“Not bad, separating a mother and child is unforgivable, talk of the pain Layla went through, no, I can't forgive her.”“I understand, I'm not saying what she did was right, no, Sophia caused not only Layla but all of us pain. What I'm saying is that everyone deserves a second chance, especially if they are willing to accept and work on their mistake,” I explained, and she nodded. “You might not be ready by now, but I'm sure one day you will.”“But…”“She will always be the woman who gave birth to you, you will forgive her someday,” I
~JESSICA~I looked around and saw that the whole family was there even Jade who was holding his baby.“Jessica, come here,” Mrs. Smith said, taking me in her arms. I was confused. The last time we were together, she was not pleased with me, she blamed me for Clinton’s conditoin—when Accardo shot him, she even threatened to force him to divorce me if it weren't for the kids. “I hope all is well?” she asked as we pulled away. I only nodded, as I was sure my breath was still full of alcohol. I didn't want to give her a reason to judge me.“Clinton, my boy,” Mr. Smith said, taking Clinton in his arms. When I pulled away from Mrs. Smith's arms, I walked to Mr. Smith, who also took me into his arms. I didn't stay for long in Mr. Smith's arms. "Oh, my baby, look at you,” Mrs. Smith said, walking to Jade. The baby was crying, so she took him from his arms.I turned to Grace, who was chatting with Layla, her daughter-in-law. “Good evening, Grace,” I said, and they both stood to their feet, Gr
~JESSICA~He didn't say anything, he instead sped up and I said, “Clinton, I'm just joking.”“No, you're not, now I understand why you acted like you couldn't see me when those girls talked to me,” he said, and I looked out the window.Since Clinton drove at a fast speed, it only took a few minutes to reach the house. I got out first, and Clinton followed behind.“What did I even do that you played such a trick on me?”“Nothing, you didn't do anything
~JESSICA~“Clinton, how are you? H-how is Kiara?“She's fine, why did you call?” Clinton harshly asked.“I'm glad, and Jessica, how is she?”“She's fine too. Do you have anything to actually say because I'm busy?”“Yes, I want to apologize for everything. I know what I did is unforgivable, especially stealing Sophie from Layla and using her against you. I shouldn't have done that.”"Yes, you shouldn't have.”“I caused another woman pain, I didn't want to accept that what we had or what I thought we had was over, and Jessica,” her voice cracked. I grabbed the phone from Clinton.“Hi Sophia, it's okay, we…” I paused and looked at Clinton, who didn't look happy. “We forgive you and Kiara, she might not forgive you now, but she will, she just needs time.”“Thank you, Jessica, you are such a good person.”“You are good too, you saved Clinton,” I told her, and after bidding goodbye, she ended the call, and we walked toward the entrance.“Why are you such a good person after what Sophia did
~JESSICA~~LONDON~~A WEEK LATER~“Come on, Clinton, she told me he is a friend,” I argued and took a sip of my glass of water as I watched my husband chop vegetables.“I don't care, she can't be friends with boys.” “Kiara is smart, I don't think anyone can play her.” I placed the glass on the counter and leaned on the counter.“Play her, okay, that's it, she's coming back, they will be going to school from the house,” he said, sounding serious.“And you think that will stop her? She will still be going to school.”“At least I will monitor her every move.” He was worried about Kiara's new friend, they came over yesterday for dinner, and because he was a boy, he thought it was dangerous, as he didn't want anyone to play her heart. I trusted Kiara, she was smart, and I knew no one could play her.“I won't let you do that.”“Love, you don't understand boys, they like to experiment and do funny things, I don't want that to happen to my daughters.”“Says a man with three sons.” I rolled m
~JESSICA~I struggled to open my eyes because of the little dim light that was foreign to my eyes. My room's curtain was black because I hated sun rays, so this was definitely not my room.“Stand by the window; she hates light!” I heard Clinton's voice, and I shot my eyes open. “Thank God you're awake, I was getting worried.” He ran to my side and took my hands into his. I looked at him, confused, before my eyes roamed to take in my surroundings. It was a small room, everything was white, and by the ceiling, I easily figured we were on a yacht. I sat up and looked at him, confused.
~JESSICA~The priest started the ceremony, and my eyes somehow found their way to the door. I knew no one could save me as I locked up the only person who could, but I still hoped he found a way.I didn't want to marry Accardo, Clinton was my husband, he will always be the man I love, and marrying another man was wrong. I knew this was for the best, so I blinked away the tears and looked back at the priest, who asked us to hold hands.“You are mine, no one will come and save you now, even if they try. My guards surround the church. They won't hesitate to shoot anyone who was not invited.” He grabbe
~JESSICA~“I'm sorry,” I ran my hand through my hair, not knowing how to defend myself."Sorry, cannot fix this, I'm so disappointed in you.” I didn't respond because what was there to say? I betrayed him, but only because I thought he cheated on me. “We have five kids, five kids, and you just went ahead and slept with another man?”“I thought you cheated on me.”“That is not an excuse, I have never cheated on you, and I never slept with anyone since I met you, but you—you keep betraying my love.” He sounded both angry and disappointed. That
“When do you want the delivery, ma’am?”“Now, I want it now, if you please.”“Alright, just say out your address, and it will be delivered to you within a few minutes,” she said, and I gave her the house address before I ended the call, just like magic Clinton appeared.“Who were you talking to?” he suspiciously asked, and I shook my head.“No one, hehe, did you get it?” “Yes, do you need anything else?” He asked, and I looked down. He had, like, ten packets of pads in his hands.“Why did you bring all this?” I laughed.“I didn't know which one you preferred, and you have like ten different brands, I didn't want you to send me away again,” he said, walking toward me."Okay, it's fine, j–just take them to the guest bathroom, I will be there,” I nervously said. I wanted him to be far away so I could go and receive the delivery.“Are you sure?”“Yes, I'm very sure, please.” I made a pitiful look, and he looked at me suspiciously before he spoke.“Can I get a kiss for being such a wonder
