“Shimma, Be my girlfriend,” Mr Mattias said. I gasped softly as my eyes flew open in shock.

I was so dumbfounded, my tongue ceased words. Just then, my door opened as Lucas stood by the door. His eyes fell on Mr Mattias who squatted in front of me.

“Lucas,” Mr Mattias said. Still squatted in front of me. Mr Mattias seemed un-bothered, But the way Lucas glanced at me sent a shiver down my spine. I couldn't quite read his expression—was it anger, concern, or something else entirely?

LUCAS.

  • Seducing My Dad's Best Friend.   THE END.

SIX MONTHS LATER.SHIMMA’S POV:“Kids! Come down quickly! You’re going to be late for school!”I snapped the lids onto three lunch boxes before lining them neatly across the kitchen island.Peanut butter sandwiches for Noah.Cheese for Nora.Elara still insisted her apple slices be cut into tiny stars. Some things never changed. The sound of hurried footsteps thundered overhead.“No running!” I called. They all answered at once.“We’re not running!”I laughed.“Lies.”Noah appeared first, his backpack hanging halfway off one shoulder, his tie crooked as always.Nora came behind him, stopping long enough to fix her brother’s collar before rolling her eyes.“You’d lose your head if I wasn’t here.”“I wouldn’t.”“You would.”“I wouldn’t.”“You absolutely would.”Elara skipped down the last few stairs with mismatched socks and a grin that could melt glaciers.“I found my bunny!”She held the stuffed rabbit triumphantly over her head.I smiled.“WOW that’s wonderful.”I glanced at her feet

  • Seducing My Dad's Best Friend.   Survival.

SIX DAYS LATER;MATTIAS’S POV.Pain woke me before I did.It felt like someone had poured concrete into my chest.Because my breathing hurt so much.Every inhale dragged against something deep inside me, forcing me to take slow, careful breaths. My eyelids felt impossibly heavy.I tried opening them. But I couldn’t.I tried again.A sliver of light slipped through.White.Everything was white. The ceiling. The walls. Then came the steady beeping sound somewhere beside me.Hospital.The realization settled slowly.I was in a hospital. The memory came in fragments.Rain…Beau…Sh…Shimma.Gunfire.Then…There was nothing. I couldn’t remember anything else.Except for one thing.I had to know if Shimma was okay. The twins…Elara. Were they safe?I tried lifting my hand. But it barely moved.Something tugged against it.An IV.There was something beneath my nose too.Oxygen.My throat burned as though I’d swallowed glass.I tried to swallow anyway. That was a big mistake. The pain made my ey

  • Seducing My Dad's Best Friend.   No!

SHIMMA’S POV.Hospitals had a sound I’d grown to hate.It wasn’t silence or noise.Something in between. The rhythmic beeping of monitors. The hurried footsteps of nurses. The squeak of trolley wheels against polished floors.Distant cries.Every sound reminded me that someone, somewhere, was losing the person they loved. Please…Don’t let it be me.I sat outside the operating theatres, my soaked clothes had long since been replaced by a hospital gown someone had forced me into.I couldn’t remember changing.I couldn’t even remember letting go of Mattias’s hand.I only remembered the blood. So much blood. My fingers still trembled.I rubbed them together.I could still feel it.His blood.Mom’s blood. The image refused to leave me.Noah, Nora and Elara were asleep across the hall, exhausted after hours of crying. A nurse had stayed with them while I waited.I waited. And waited.Every second felt like another year. Two operating room doors. One for my mother, the other for Mattias.I

  • Seducing My Dad's Best Friend.   Don’t leave me.

MATTIAS’S POV: (continued).Just before they reached the main gate…My breath caught.A sharp, sick panic ripped through my chest.Because in that instant, I realized that…If they got out of this house…If Beau crossed that gate with Shimma…If he got her into that car…I’d lost her. There would be no catching them.No second chance.“Hey!… Wait!”The shout tore out of my throat, raw enough to burn.I forced my body forward.Pain ripped through my chest with every step, but I refused to stop.Rain lashed against my face, blurring my vision as my feet struggled for traction on the rain-slick concrete.Just a little farther.Just…I raised my gun.Steadied my shaking hand. And pulled the trigger. The shot rang through the storm.I saw Beau’s body jerk. Then every ounce of strength drained from me.My vision swam.My foot slipped on the rain-slick ground.I stumbled.I tried to catch myself, but I failed. The gun slipped from my fingers as I crashed hard onto the concrete.Pain exploded

  • Seducing My Dad's Best Friend.   “Hey!…Stop!”

SHIMMA’S POV.(continued)“Mattias!” I screamed in disbelief. No.Someone wake me up, someone please wake me up from the cruel nightmare. This can’t be real…this can’t be happening again. not after swearing it won’t.How could I have been so blind? Again!I didn’t even have the chance to go touch Mattias. To go see if all this was just a stupid nightmare, and he was just pretending to be dead.“Move!”Beau ordered immediately, his voice sounded more cold. Scary. How could I have not seen this coming?Beau was the kindest, most innocent and caring man I knew. At least, I thought. The same Beau who could hold a door open for everyone, the same man who could apologize for any little thing.I still can’t believe that he killed Doctor Ryle. He was the killer all this while and he Still had the gut to show his face here? No, this is not just terrifying but embarrassing as hell.He knew how dumb I was, he knew how careless and too trustworthy I was. That was why he wasn’t scared of showing

  • Seducing My Dad's Best Friend.   MATTIAS.

BEAU’S POV. (continued)“Bang!”For a split second I couldn’t tell whether I’d actually pulled the trigger… or if my body had moved on its own. Then the truth landed all at once.Mrs. Anna collapsed to the floor. Her light blue nightwear darkened fast….blood spreading across her waist and pooling where she hit the floor, her breath turning shallow, then stopping. Her eyes were still open, but they no longer saw anything. My gun was heavy in my hand, vibrating with the aftershock.I stared at her for one heartbeat too long.I didn’t have time to think.I just turned toward the stairs and began to run upstairs. The guards must have heard the sound, everyone must have heard it.And if I didn’t act fast, I’ll lose this chance.SHIMMA’S POV. (continued)We got back to my room and Mattias began pacing around, even before I sat down on my bed.“Why were you so concerned about him?” Mattias asked. “Is there something I should know.”My hands stayed folded like that would keep me from shaking.
