Ch 7 Never Know Who's Watching

Paul watched the boy intently to see if the boy was believing anything he was saying. After a few moments, the boy seemed to start to relax. It seemed as if it was easier for him to believe what Paul was saying than what his own eyes had seen. "Are you ok now?" Paul asked. The boy nodded his head, "I must look like a fool, huh?" The boy asked red faced. "No harm done. I won't ever mention it." Paul assured him with a false smile.

 "Take care and stop smoking that shit." Paul told the boy, The boy turned a bright red once more. He nodded insuring Paul that he would stop and get some help. Paul quickly loaded the truck. He was disappointed in himself that he had been so careless. He nodded a goodbye to the boy that breathed a sigh of relief. He laid his head on the counter and closed his eyes when he heard the truck pull off.

He dozed off for a few moments. He laughed at himself. It was a dream. He must pissed himself in his sleep. Thirty more minutes he could lock up shop and go home, he thought with a smile. He stretched and turned to see a massive guy with a husky dog beside him. This guy was bigger than the first one that came in or the one he dreamed about. He had no idea which. Had he dreamed it? Had it really happened? 

This man was over seven feet. He had eyes as black as night and his white hair hung down his back. "I was told I can get packages sent here. Is that true?" The large man asked. His voice was deep as thunder. The boy nodded his head without uttering a word. "What would be the cost of a five hundred pound delivery?" He asked the young shopkeeper. "One thousand, eighteen dollars and fifty two cents." The tall man's eyebrow raised "You remember such an obscure number without checking . You must be excellent at your job. "He said with a bit of a sarcastic tone. The naive young boy smiled, "Guess so" He said. The huge man walked around slowly before he turned to look at the boy, "So tell me about your previous customer, the one that left as I was arriving." He asked the boy. He stared the boy directly into his eyes. The boy attempted to look bewildered as if he didn't know what the man was talking about. "Surely, you must remember the man that had five hundred pounds of packages?" The white haired man asked in a serious tone.

He watched the boy shift uncomfortably, "I don't understand what you mean. I was asleep before you came in." He said. The man's dog growled at the boy. The massive man walked to his dog and stroked its's fur to calm the animal. "I want to know his name. I want to know what was in the boxes. I want to know if there was anything strange about him." The young boy squared his shoulders. He tried to appear braver than he actually was. "Customer information is confidential. I can not help you. You must leave." A flash of anger went across the man's face. "Do you want to do this the hard way?" He said. The boy demonstrated a courage that he did not have. He was determined not to snitch on Paul. Paul was a good person. He even gave him money for rehab. "Are you gonna beat me up? The entire town will be here in seconds. I am not scared of you." The boy said standing strong.

The dog let out an angry howl and before the young boys eyes, it shifted. It was the beautiful woman that he had seen Paul knock down earlier. In a second she had the boy by the neck. The massive man walked up to the woman," Easy investigator" He said trying to calm the woman. She loosened the grip on his neck, "Yes Elder " She said. Yet she continued to hold him in the air. Suddenly she dropped him in a crumpled mass to the floor. "What the fuck Investigator? You are going to hurt the boy." The Elder from the council snapped at the woman.

"Sorry Elder, but he shit himself." She said looking at the boy with disgust. By this time, the young boy was sobbing in terror.

The elder's look softened. It was replaced by a look of pity and sympathy. This boy didn't deserve this. "Son, look at me."

 The elder said. "Let me explain who we are. "We are werewolves. Don't be afraid. We are simply looking for our prince." The elder said.

The elder expected the boy to try to run off, but he was staring at the investigator, "She is only one fourth werewolf. That is why her wolf is much smaller." The Elder explained. "She is a rancid bitch." The boy murmured under his breath. The elder chuckled. "I can't disagree with that." He said ignoring the sharp look the investigator gave him. 

"Lets make a deal. If you help us with our prince, I will make everything better for you." The elder said to him. The boy looked at him with tears streaming down his face. A look of doubt was in his eyes. "How can you make any of this better?" The boy asked him with doubt. The elder met his eyes. "If you answer our questions, tomorrow, you won't remember any of this. Plus you will mysteriously find a large sum of money in the shop addressed to you." The elder told the scared boy. For a tense few minutes, the elder focused on the boy. Finally the boy nodded his head in agreement.  The elder patted him on the back, "Lets get you home." He turned to look at the investigator. "Arrange some transportation."

Unknowingly, the Elder and the Alpha had made the same mistake. A mistake that was unheard-of by two wolves of their experience and knowledge. They did not check their surroundings. If they did, they would have seen the evil human watching everything.  He had seen everything and it was exactly what he had hoped to see. As soon as the elder, investigator and shopkeeper left, he walked to the vendor Paul had spoken to earlier. They both had evil smiles of satisfaction as they gave each other hive fives and shook hands.
