Linda's POV

My heart skipped a beat and I looked at Chris. “The police…” I was a bit nervous and I did not know why because I was innocent, I did not kill Mitch. I would never do such a thing!

“It’s okay, I will handle it,” He assured me, walking away and closing the distance between him and the door. When he reached it, he opened it and I caught sight of two officers.

It was a female and a male officer. They looked very familiar and it did not take long for my brain to remind me that they were the same officers at the scene of Mitch's death.

“Hello, officers, how may I help you?” Chris spoke smoothly, not a hint of nervousness in his voice.

“This is a visit to confirm that your wife is truly in the house,” The female officer began, peeking into the room and flashing me a stiff smile. “Also, we are here to talk to her.”

“I understand you wanting to talk to her and confirm that she is in the house with me, but I do not get why you had to come to the bedroom and could not wait in the

Linda's POVI sniffled dryly and ran my hand through my hair. All the evidence was truly pointing to me, but I knew that I did not kill my ex. “Yes, Mitch and I had an argument but that does not mean that I had him killed.”“Exactly…she and I had an argument too, I’m not dead, am I?” Chris chirped in, making his point. Zane sighed. “I know, I know. But the thing here is that we have enough evidence to have you locked up. That’s just the truth.” He was talking to me. “And if not for your husband here, you would have been behind bars, dear.” He chuckled to himself faintly. “Evidence or not, I didn't do it.” “Evidence or not?” Zane scoffed the words out. “Okay, you know what? Let’s get this thing over with.” He glanced at his partner, gesturing for her to stand up as he did. “We are going to ask you one last time, did you or did you not kill your ex?”“And just to add, if you admit to it, you might get a lighter sentence. The judge would take that into consideration,” The female offi

It was like I was not even in the room anymore. The words on the small white note danced in my eyes, causing my heart to race. I gulped, proceeding to read it again. And it read: ‘Hi, Mrs. Kingston. I hope you are doing well, dear. Especially considering your new murder charge against your ex. You see, everyone pays for their sins, and you dear, you’re certainly going to pay. I know you did not kill Mitch, but I swear on my life that I will make sure everyone believes that. I am going to give you three business days to figure out who I am. And if you can’t? Well, another person dies. Have a good night, babe! :)’What the hell? What the actual hell?! My hands were shaking as I read it one more time, especially the part that talked about someone dying again. It shook me to my bones. The first thing that came to my mind was going to the police. Or maybe even Chris. But I was scared, because considering that this person had Mitch killed smoothly and could pin it on me, I did not want

I swallowed, trying to take in the information. If the police had an arrest warrant for me then that meant that they must have gotten additional evidence. But again, I had nothing to do with Mitch’s death! Hell, I was traumatized by it!“Did you contact my husband?” I asked her, not knowing exactly what to do or say, so I just went along with whatever came to my head. The car started to move again, the traffic light was now green. “Um…we tried to do that but we could not. I think he was busy. So, for security reasons, the team was thinking that you try to get to Mr. Kingston as soon as you can.” “Yeah, yeah, of course.” “We were going to approach you about this but we did not want to be abrupt, it’s still early.” I forced a chuckle even though my heart was pounding. “Nonsense,” I said playfully. “It’s about me getting thrown in prison. To hell with abrupt!” I laughed, but it was yet again forced. The lady chuckled lightly, keeping her eyes on the road. I did not even know where

As the car came to a stop, my heart doubled its pace. This time, I was trying to calm my nerves not because of all the carp that was going on in my life. But because I was about to see Mitch again. “Thank you,” I told the lady but decided to ask, “I don’t know your name, may I?”She smiled warmly. “I’m Cristal, ma’am,” She replied. “Nice to meet you, Cristal. I would be in there for I don’t know how long but you can wait up for me anywhere you’d like.” She nodded, and I got out of the car, heading into the building that poured out an energy of heaviness. When I entered, I tried my best to not be the center of attention. My heart was racing and my throat was dry as I walked up to the receptionist's desk. It was a dark-skinned guy that stood behind it. I waited for him to take notice of me but he did not, he seemed busy. I cleared my throat. “Excuse me?” My voice was soft. “Yes,” He replied, his voice strong and comforting at the same time. He was a rather good-looking man. “I’m s

I was heading further away from the room when I bumped into Laurel. “Oh, are you done?” She asked. There was a look in her eyes that I could not describe but I did not like it. “Yes, I’m sorry but I could not wait for you. I felt like I was suffocating.” “Oh, honey, it’s alright.” She flashed a smile but it seemed forced. I could see a bit of fear dancing in her eyes now. Her body language also showed that she was nervous. Something was not right. “Excuse me, but I have to leave,” I said as I hurried out. When I reached the lobby area, the receptionist tried to stop me. “Mrs. Kingston? Why are you leaving so early?”I did not even reply to him, I rushed out of the building and could hear the sound of police sirens in the distance. They were getting louder every few seconds. I needed to get out of here. Someone had called the cops!Rushing towards the parking lot, I saw the car. Cristal must have clocked the cops too because she was already heading towards me with the vehicle. She

I watched him walk away, letting a scoff escape my lips. What just happened? You see, I would have been willing to talk to him about staying and tried to convince him but the way he just walked out and acted as if I’d bow down to his every command annoyed me. I tried to let the anger rising in me to cool down before walking out after a few minutes. When I was out of the Villa, I saw the car waiting for me. The engines were alive and Chris had a look of expectation plastered across his face. I walked right up to him, closing the distance before saying, “I am not going. I am not going to run away. I don’t want that kind of life.” Chris squinted his eyes a bit as if he was trying to understand something. Then he opened the door of the expensive car, getting down. “So which kind of life do you want? One which you are accused of murdering your ex?” I smiled, but it had no hint of being one that was of joy or humor. “Leave, Chris. Go take care of what you truly care about. Your compani

Would I be able to prove my innocence from behind bars? The ride to the police station was silent, broken only by the occasional radio chatter from the officers up front. I took deep breaths, attempting to steady my nerves and clear my thoughts. The gravity of the accusations against me began to sink in, and my mind felt very heavy. Upon arriving at the police station, I was led through a series of cold, dimly lit hallways. The familiar sounds of slamming cell doors and distant conversations created an atmosphere of tension. As they processed me, the officer maintained a professional demeanor, but their suspicion was palpable. In the interrogation room, a detective with a stern expression awaited me. I did not know him and it was my first time seeing him. The room felt sterile, and the harsh f

As the detective left the room, leaving me with my thoughts, I could not help but feel a sense of loneliness and vulnerability. The harsh reality of my situation started to sink in even deeper. The possibility of facing a trial, especially with such damning evidence against me, loomed over my head like a storm cloud. I hated it. I took a few deep breaths and released them as I began to reflect on the events that had led me to this point. The fight with Mitch, the accusations, the fingerprints on the alleged murder weapon–everything seemed like a piece of a puzzle that I had not fully grasped. The real killer was out there, and I needed to find a way to prove my innocence and uncover the truth, while at the same time being very careful and trying my best to please the killer and do what he or she wanted me to do. The sound of the door opening as someone walked in caught my attention. It was two guards, and I had an idea as to why they were in there; to take me to my cell. I stood

In seconds he was out of the room. Kirby flashed me a sad look before her features hardened again. She then walked out, the doctor guy following her.I sniffled and then sobbed out even more. He was wearing old and ragged clothes and seemed to be unconscious because his head was bent over in a weak way.“Are you okay?” I asked, attempting to see if he was awake even though I felt he was not. There was no reply. So I sighed and then glanced around the room, looking to see if I could find a way of escape, but it seemed like the only way to get out here was through the door. There were two windows in the room but both of them had iron bars that did not

Linda’s POVThe car soon came to a stop, it had been a long ride. “Take her inside,” Kirby commanded and the Doctor did as he was asked. He opened the door and got down before gesturing that I do the same. I did not want to be hurt and did not want my baby to be hurt either so I did as he told me. I got down from the car and glanced around. It was now dark but the lights from on the property were impressively bright. Acres of land stretched from both sides that I looked at, and a huge stood not too far from me. It looked like a castle. It was stunning but it had a dark energy that caused my heart to skip a beat. I already knew who was behind this. I mean, I had my suspicions at first but they had now been confirmed. The thought of Chris entered my mind and I felt a heaviness that I could not ignore. Why did they have me tell him that I was on a street that we were miles away from? Had it been a way to get him alone so they could harm him? Oh my gosh, I did not know what I would do

You said you’re being held at Clink Street?” I needed to make sure that I had heard her right. “Yes…” Her voice broke before a shudder followed shortly after. Then the call dropped. I tried to call but there was no answer. So I tried again; again and again. And with the cars honking behind me as I was parked at the traffic light, blocking their way, I knew that I had to put it all aside for only a few seconds. My mind raced as I tried to make sense of what had just happened. Lind, my wife, was kidnapped. The thought was incomprehensible, surreal. But I could not afford to dwell on it. I had to act, I had to act fast. With a deep breath, I refocused on the present. The light that was was still green, so I finally drove and ignored the road rage that I was getting as I pulled to the
