POV Zara

I sat at the restaurant table, my fingers tracing the rim of the glass, waiting for Kayden. Time ticked by slowly, and with each passing minute, the hope that he would walk through the door dwindled. I knew it was foolish to wait, especially since he was with Monica, but I couldn’t help myself. I kept telling myself that he might still come, but deep down, I knew he wouldn’t.

Feeling a gnawing emptiness in my stomach, I finally gave in and ordered some food. If nothing else, I could at least fill my stomach. The waiter brought my meal, and I started eating, trying to push away the disappointment that was steadily building inside me.
