Shira walked out of the house in pain. She just couldn't face that at the moment.
The cold air whipped harshly around her face as she made her way towards the club for an evening shift.
A tear dropped on her cheek and she wiped it off swiftly.
'Oh Shira, you have to be strong, you can't serve customers with leaky eyes.' She berated herself.
She got to Da Smith Club with 5 minutes to spare. She paused a bit at the entrance and breathe in and out.
'It'll be over before you know it' She thought to herself as she walked through the double doors.
The club was dimly lit and rock music played in the background. One of the reasons she loved working there was the noise and chaos of it all.
It was a good distraction from her thoughts. From seeing her brother suffer, from seeing her mother weep...
"Hey Shira! You're right on time today!" Shira's friend Damien greeted her from the bar counter. He was drying some glasses with a napkin.
"Good day, I guess." She shouted back with a smile and a small wave.
She needed it to be a good day. she was already stressed as it was.
She went round to the back to take of her coat and change into her apron then began serving drinks to customers.
After about two hours on the job, Shira was tired and needed a break.
"Get these drinks to that table and then you can take a short break, you look out of it Shira" Martha said. She was Shira's direct boss.
Shira smiled gratefully at the girthy black woman and took the tray. The club had gotten rowdier and majority of the people weren't sober anymore.
She made her way around the dancing, sweaty people untill someone bumped into her making her spill the drinks on a seated customer.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry, lemme get you a..."
"What the hell is wrong with you, stupid. Can't you watch where you're going?! Do you know how much this costs, you filthy thing?!"
The man ranted on and on chipping in insults in Russian.
"I said it was an accident, I didn't mean to, someone bumped into me!" Shira said to the huge-looking man feeling disgusted.
"You insult me?!"
"What? No! I just..."
The man had stood up threatening her with his height.
"You little..." Shira flinched.
"Get away from her!" Shira turned towards the commanding voice. The man approached them giving the huge man a killer glare.
Shira forgot about the bald Russian for a while and stared at the oncoming beauty. Who was this hottie?

Cole sipped his wine slowly, watching the dancing and grooving from his nest. The club was particularly rowdy tonight; noisier than a typical Friday night.
He observed the people below. The lights were dim but he could tell who was a first timer to the club or who was a regular. He also knew most of the workers by sight. The waiters, bartenders, dancers and even the strippers.
Cole was a workaholic to the core but Fridays were the days he just sat back and watched people let off steam from the week's hard work. It was his own way of letting off steam from the long hectic week.
He gave a signal to the waiter standing at the back of the room and he came over to refill his glass. He took a sip and spit it back out
“What is this?!” He thundered.
“Y…your wine s…sir.” The waiter said with a stutter.
“Are you nuts?! Don't you see that it's already room temperature?! Get me a chilled glass!”
“Y…yes sir,” The waiter said and left. He came back a while later with another bottle and made to pour a glass.
“What's that? Cole asked, shooting the waiter a murderous glare.
“Sir?”
“Does my cousin employ blind people now too? Can't you recognise a good red wine when you see one?!”
“I'm really sorry sir,” He said and went off again to get the right bottle. Cole shook his head as he fidgeted with the glass.
He took a sip relaxing further into the leather seat when suddenly, he noticed a disturbance below. He looked closely and it was one of the waitresses, the clumsy one being harassed by a bulky looking dude.
He dropped his drink and raced down the stairs not bothering with the elevators.
The dude was about to hit her when he got down
"Get away from her!" He shouted above the music. The big bald man turned to stare at him, his hand frozen in the air. The waitress who had been yelling at her attacker also had her mouth in the agape.
"I said, get away from her!" The sound of his voice surprised even him.
The bald man sized him up. He was a few inches taller.
"And if I don't what you gonna do about it." He said with a thick Russian accent raising his shoulders and puffing out his chest to intimidate but Cole was not intimidated. He had undergone years of self-defence training and went to the gym regularly. If anything, he could surely take the guy down
They both had a stare down then Cole mentally face-palmed.
'What the hell is wrong with me?' He thought. 'Why am I getting myself involved in this?'
Just then they were surrounded by Security men who hurled the bulky Russian out of the club
"Are you okay, sir?" One of the security men asked him. He was about to reply when he heard a voice behind him.
"Well hello, Brother"
Cole closed his eyes in exasperation. It was his annoying cousin, Smith. The owner of the club.
"Well this is a surprise. I don't expect you to be in the middle of fights with drunk guys." He said. He was a head shorter than Cole and had a lighted cigar between his fingers.
"He was being an asshole" Luke grunted.
"And that is your business how?" Smith asked with a raised eyelid.
Smith stared at him at loss for words. He also couldn't understand his actions.
"Well, Cousin, I believe I can handle the running of my club well, I don't need you meddling in my business." Smith said, walking away with his cigar in his mouth. He returns as an afterthought.
"why don't you stick to your company while I stick to mine, would you?" He said puffing out smoke then walked away.
Cole shot him a deadly stare until he was out of sight.
He cursed under his breath then turned to the lady he had just defended and she was gone. So much for a thanks.
"Weldone Shira, you managed to drench yet another customer." Shira stared at Damien at loss for words. At this point she was exasperated."I told you, someone bumped into me" She said cupping her face in her hands and resting her elbows on the bar counter. "People are always bumping into you," He said, shaking his head. He playfully slaps Shira's arms off the counter and wipes it down with a damp napkin. It was nearly 6:00 am and the club was relatively empty except for a handful of people. "Just be careful, I don't want a repeat of last night. You could have gotten hurt. But thank God Mr hot ass billionaire was there. But hold up, darling, there's something you're not telling me." He fakes a thinking face. "When did you start hanging out with hot CEOs?""Very funny, I don't know him." She brushed it off but her stomach began to tingle again. All through the night she didn't even think much about the Russian but was fascinated with the hottie. She fantasized about him all through t
Shira walked out of the Burger King fast food restaurant where she worked during the day. Her hands were deep in her pant pockets and her fingers fiddled with the few tips she had gotten that day. Today was a good day. She had also gotten compliments from three people on her smile and poise. Shira was very good at masking her emotions for sure. She never let her pains show. She got to her neighborhood and hastened her steps. She wanted to spend some more time with her brother before she left for the club. She wanted to finish reading him the story that they had started the previous evening.A few kids greeted her as she passed and she smiled at them, making way to the house.“Hey Mum, I'm home!” Shira announced as she walked through the front door. She took off her coat and went straight into Chuck's room.He was fast asleep in his bed looking so pale. Her once chubby and healthy little brother now looked so frail. She hated seeing him like this. He was only twelve but had to suffer d
Shira had facepalmed a hundred times that night. What was she thinking? She still felt so embarrassed about the bathroom incident. He seemed cool about it though and it wasn't like she stumbled upon him taking a dump or something but she still felt so awkward. And She had nearly fallen onto her face in front of him. So embarrassing! He had caught her though. Shira was still feeling a tingling sensation where he had held on to her to prevent her from falling. But after that he didn't so much as give her a second glance and ordered her around all evening. He was so confusing. What made matters worse was that she would be serving him all through the night and it was not going well at all. Shira and another waitress were setting up a table for what seemed like a dinner date. The CEO observed them with scrutiny. He had a very cold aura around him and seemed to have a problem with everything they did. He was presently sipping from his glass of white wine as he watched them set the table. H
“Of all the ladies in this city for Pete’s sake, John, the only one you could find was an obsessed pet owner with terrible taste in makeup?!” “In my defence, sir, she is the daughter of one of the wealthiest businessmen in town.” John said and Cole looked up from his laptop screen and glowered at him. It was the following afternoon. They were both in Cole’s office and John was standing to the side holding some files. He continued in his quest for self justification.“She didn't seem so bad when we spoke over the phone and she actually seemed like the perfect match. You know? Rich, classy, famous…” John said.“Indeed” Cole said with an eye roll. “I will definitely put Olivia in charge of setting up my blind dates from now on.” Cole said. “ What happened to Miss Felicia anyway? She disappeared after the incident.”“She went home, sir. She was really upset. I tried to stop her but she just ran off, threatening to sue the waitress and the entire club. What do we do about her sir, should
“Uncle Cole! Uncle Cole!”Cole quickly kept his phone in his pocket and opened his arms wide, bending to catch the two little girls that were running towards him at full speed.“Anna! Ava! Guys, how many times will I tell you to quit running within the house…” Rose Stuart was saying but the girls were focused on their uncle.Cole caught them and enveloped them in his arms. “Hey there, lovelies. How are you doing?” He asked, still crouched to accommodate the height difference.“Uncle Cole, I missed you so much.” Anna said.“Yes, Uncle Cole, we missed you,” said Ava.It was easier to differentiate them because they were wearing the exact same princess dresses but in different colors. Ava’s was pink while her sister's was a light blue. This was what helped Cole otherwise he wouldn’t know who was whom. “I missed you too guys” Cole said, staring at them adorably.“We wanted to come visit but Mummy said…” Anna was interrupted by Rose’s sudden cough.“Come now girls, let's go sit down, it’s
After the almost unbearable family get-together, Cole greeted his parents and Grandparents goodnight. They were the last ones to leave the Stuart mansion. Everyone else had left. They stood at the entrance waiting for the driver to bring the car around.“It was good to see you today, Honey,” Cole's mother said, throwing her hands over his neck.“You too mum, Take care” Cole said. The driver had brought the car around. Cole shook hands with his father and they bid each other goodnight.“What a night.” Grandpa Stuart said as they watched the car drive out of the compound. “Yeah. Thanks for dinner Gran. It was delicious” Cole said, then bent stiffly to give her a kiss.“Take care son” She said rather coldly and returned to the house.“You sure you don't want to stay the night?” Grandpa Stuart said to Cole, placing an arm around his shoulders fondly.“Yes Grandpa, I have work tomorrow,” Cole said. “Right you are. You really should do something about that decline, Son.” He had switched t
“If I die, will you and Mum promise not to grieve for too long?”What?!Shira felt some ringing in her ears as if she had been slapped. She couldn't have heard him well.“Chuck, what are you saying? You're not gonna die.” She said immediately she found her voice but noticed that he had already drifted into a peaceful sleep, his chest rising and falling gently in tune with his breathing.“Oh, Chuck, You're not going to die, you can't die,” Shira said in a quiet voice, stroking his temple gently, a complete contrast to the heartache and turmoil she was feeling inside. Then she thought sadly that that was probably what occupied the mind of the little boy now and then. Chuck had always been mature for his age. He had taken the news of their father’s death far better than most twelve year-olds would and had always been supportive, and now he had to bear this weight as well. She felt broken, crushed. Tears welled up in her eyes and she let them fall down her face. Before she knew it, her bo
Immediately Shira got to the bar the following evening, she berated herself to put on her most cheerful smiles but she was in no mood for that. Chuck was getting worse by the day and she was getting tired of the whole situation. Mrs William took him to the clinic regularly for the dialysis treatment but nothing seemed to improve. The dialysis was supposed to help him feel better but it semed like no help at all. The doctor had suggested something else though; a transplant, but that would cost a huge amount of money. One she didn’t have at the moment. She took a deep breath as she changed into her apron, trying to put on a livelier countenance. She would continue to work and help her brother to the best of her ability. The day seemed to be determined to be stressful though as she got summoned to the VIP room immediately.“Shira, you're at the VIP section.” Martha said to her and went on to tell the other waitresses where they would be stationed for the day.Shira wondered why she was
"He's crazy! I'm crazy! What was I thinking?!" Shira said with a loud groan then buried her head on the table. "Oh come on Shira, stop over thinking it" Damien said, forcing her head up. They were at a cafe close to Da Smith bar. It was a Wednesday, Shira's day off but she had come to see Damien during the lunch break. Her thoughts were completely jumbled up and she needed someone to talk to."It isn't as bad as you're making it out to be, you know." Damien said, taking a bite of his muffin. He got a glare from Shira in return. Shira hadn't had time to really dwell on the deal she had made with the hot CEO because she had been worried about Chuck but now that the doctor said Chuck was out of harm's way, it dawned on her the gravity of the agreement she had made. Shira buried her head groaning loudly again just thinking about it."You're making a huge deal out of it trust me," Damien saidShira lifted her head. "Really?! Have you had a conversation with this guy? If arrogance was a
Cole had a lot of work on his desk but he couldn't stop himself from mulling over what had happened the previous night while flipping through Miss Clumsy's background check report. How dare she? Did she not know who he was? What was wrong with her? On the other hand, he wondered why he cared so much. It was one ordinary girl after all. But that was exactly the point. An ordinary girl rejected him. No, he just had to do something about this. But what?Try convincing her? That would be too shallow of him. Let it go? But he couldn't have it on his record that he was rejected by someone. Something had to be done.A shrill ring from the telephone cut into his stream of thoughts and he glared at the device before picking it up wondering who it was."Hello," He drawled an evidence that he was so having a bad day."Cole! Cole! You have to come quick! It's Grandpa!" Cole could barely make out the rest of what his cousin was saying as she was rambling on without break in a very frantic voice
