The doctor attended to us and we were done in no time. He prescribed some drugs for Liam and advised to let him rest more. Ever since my encounter with Stella, I haven’t been at peace with myself. I took my family for granted, something they don’t deserve at all. Dixon offered to take us home to which I agreed but not before seeing my brother.
“Hey, where were you guys?” Adeline rushed to me immediately I entered Ian’s room.
“Sorry, Adeline. We had to take Liam to see the doctor.” I looked at Dixon who smiled warmly at me.
“Ohh, it’s fine then. It’s no biggie.” I made my way to Ian’s bed. He’s still sleeping peacefully. His bruises seem to be healing perfectly and he looks fine except he isn’t waking up yet. Remembering my encounter with Stella earlier today, I realized how lucky I was and I didn’t even know or appreciate it.I felt more tears threatening to spill. I really miss my brother and my parents. It’s funny how we never appreciate the people in our lives until something takes them from us.
As the only female child in the family, I was pampered and I had less responsibilities on my shoulders. My parents were always in my hair constantly bugging me about everything, I was always so annoyed at their childish behaviors that I reduced the way the visit them. Now I just want one more opportunity to see and hug them, tell them I truly care and I’m sorry for my nonchalant attitude.
“Do you guys mind leaving me alone for some minutes? I’ll really love to be here with him alone.” I said to my friends.
“Yeah, sure. Let’s go guys.” Adeline and Vicky left the room.
“You okay, Princess? I don’t mind staying here with you.”
“I’m okay, Dixon. Thank you but I’ll love to be alone.” He nodded and left the room quietly with Liam.
I sat down quietly beside him and gently took his hand in my own cold ones. His hands are as warm as I can remember.
“How can I help you now, Ian? I always promised myself that I’ll do whatever I can to repay you. You were always there for me even when I never appreciate it. Thank you so much, Ian…Thanks for being the best brother in the world, thanks for never giving up on me, thanks for loving me even when I was so difficult to be loved. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry for realizing this late, I’m sorry for not seeing it sooner and most of all, I’m so sorry for taking you for granted.” I said with bitter tears spilling desperately from my face. I’m pretty sure everyone outside can hear my gasp and sniffs as I cried but I don’t care anymore.
I felt some warm big hands bring me closer. I hugged the person with dear life.
“Please, wake him up. You have to wake him up. I have to tell him how sorry I am and how thankful I am of him. Please! Please!”
“Ssshhh, it’s okay, Princess. It’s all going to be okay.” He said rubbing my back soothingly. I cried for everything I lost and can never get back. I cried for the time I had with them and I took for granted. I cried for the love I refused to show them. I cried for the fact that they’ll never know just how much I love them.
“It’s okay. You’re going to get sick if you keep this up. Just calm down, please.” Dixon whispered in my ears.
“Just wake him up, please.” I whispered.
“He will, very soon.” I nodded and finally calmed down. Dixon and I sat down in the same position for about 20 minutes.
“I’m so sorry. I just couldn’t control myself and I even got snot all over your shirt.” I said shyly.
“It’s okay, Princess. Are you okay now?”
“Yeah,I’m good. Thank you.”
“No problem, I’ll just go clean up.” I nodded and watched as he left the room. I wonder why he didn’t use the restroom in the room. I looked at Ian sleeping peacefully and smiled sadly. I gently brushed his hair carefully from his face.
“I miss you, you know. I miss you and our parents. Dad left a letter for me, something about some adventure, do you have any idea what that is? I don’t know what he planned or why he did that but I’m going to do it especially because it’s like his dying wish even though I know it’s far from it.” I said. “So please wake up soon.”
“McKenna, Dixon asked me to tell you he’s ready to leave.”
“Okay, I’m coming. Are you leaving with us?” I asked her.
“Uhh, no. Adeline offered to drive me home. I’ll be fine.”
“Alright then. Take care and thanks for today.”
“It’s always a pleasure.” She smiled hugging me and left the room. I bent down and placed a kiss on Ian’s forehead.
“Get well soon, big brother.” I placed a kiss on his forehead and made my way out of the room.
“McKenna, hold up.” Sophie called.
I turned around to face her as she came to a stop beside me gasping for breath.
“Hey, Soph. What’s up?”
“You came today. I’m sure he’ll be so happy.”
“Yeah, I’m sorry I don’t come earlier. Been busy with work.”
“I understand. Just remember that you visiting and talking to him will aid his recovery.” I nodded my head.
“I’ve got to go now. Liam’s sick.”
“Ohh my, is he okay?”
“We saw the doctor already. He’ll be fine, thanks anyway.” I hugged her and made my way outside. I saw Dixon resting on his car typing away on his phone. He’s wearing his sunglasses and boy, does he look delicious. I noticed that no matter how many times I look at him,I never get enough of his manliness and sexiness.
He must’ve noticed my presence because he raised his head and looked at me. He smiled and nodded towards his car.
“Ready?”
“I drove here with Vicky actually. So I’ll just drive back anyway.”
“Ohh, Adeline offered to drive your car back while Vicky drive hers.”
“How in the world did she get my keys?” He shrugged and made his way to open the passenger side of the door. He opened the door and looked at me with a smirk.
“So are you coming?”
“You know, I have a feeling you guys ganged up on me.”
“We’ll never do that, Princess.”
I stood beside him and raised my head to look at him as I’m so small compared to him.
“Yeah, it’s written all over your face.”
“You’re reading it all wrong then.” He winked and I rolled my eyes before getting into the car. He closed the door and made his way to his side of the car. I turned to see Liam in the backseat sleeping peacefully. He got in and started the car.
“Ready, Princess?”
I giggled and yelled; “Step on it, old man.”
He looked at me in disbelief;
”Well, I’ve been called lot of names but I’ve definitely not been called old. I’ll have you know that there’s nothing old about me.”
”Yeah, yeah. I’m the only one who tells you the truth, you know.”
He laughed as he made his way to the streets. I smiled and leaned my head on the window, looking straight ahead out of the windshield just letting my thoughts roam about.
We seem to be moving at a very fast pace so I brought down the window a little to let fresh hair in. The cool autumn breeze fans my face and I felt so free.
I stuck my hand out the window and brought my head out too to get more breeze on my face. I’m crazy I know. I heard Dixon laughing at me. I turned to face him.
”Faster, dude.”
” Dude? You sure know where to get your words, Princess.”
I shrugged and adjusted myself back into position. I started laughing and screaming as more air blew past us. I know I’ll be fine.
One day.
The day is finally here. The day I get to see what my Dad planned before his death. I have waited for this day with such expectancy and curiosity. I desperately want to know what the adventure he planned is all about especially after what his lawyer told me.A tired sigh escaped my lips as I leaned further back into the comfortable seat. This week has been long and stressful. Dixon finally renewed his contract with our company, it was so urgent that we had to start work immediately. Dimitri is currently driving me to the house.I had almost lost hope about the said adventure because I did not know anything about it. I was only given an address to go to, I felt like it was a trap until my dad’s lawyer contacted me.Earlier that week….The telephone in my office rang making me jump 2 feet’s into the air in fright.I grunted in frustration as the papers I was holding flew all over the
The sound of the bell chimed throughout the cafe signaling a new customer's arrival. The strong scent of coffee lingered in the air as I opened the door to find a joyful Daisy adding the freshly made muffins and cookies in the display of glass. Toby, the man who ran the register was recounting and organizing the cash register from what I can see from here. He stood up straighter and smiled warmly at me as I approached the counter."Hello, McKenna. Welcome to Cathy's Cakes & Coffee." Toby is a blond haired man with bright green eyes, fresh out of community college. He had long wished to go to the university to pursue his career as a business major, however, while dreaming was easy, fulfilling those dreams is not. Universities cost a lot and Toby unfortunately didn't have the money he needed which is why I decided to sponsor him but my parents death happened and I couldn't visit anymore."Hey, Toby. How're you doing?" I waved at Daisy who is on her way to the kitchen
“Dixon, what are you doing here?” Jason asked.“Considering I have this, I’m supposed to be here.” He showed us the letter he was holding. It looks exactly like mine. Even from where I was standing, I can see my dad’s handwriting clear as the day. I seriously don’t get why dad will want Dixon to be here.“You have no business here, Get the fuck out.” Jason yelled.“That’s where you’re wrong. I have every right to be here. Greene’s is s major stockholder in the Wright’s company, so stop lying to the young lady and tell her the truth.”“Fine, I’ll leave but this is not over. Watch your back, Greene.” Jason said and left. I stood still in my spot wondering what on earth just happened.“Hey, are you okay?” He placed his hand on the small of my back and led me to a seat nearby. I nodded still in daze.I asked after I finally calmed down
We arrived at Luke’s house exactly 20 minutes later. I immediately got out of the vehicle after asking Dimitri to leave, I plan on getting a ride with Luke later on.I pressed the bell and waited for a response.”Who’s there?” I heard the voice of the security guard”It’s McKenna. Is Luke home? I need to see him. it’s urgent.”” Yeah, Sir Luke is in. I’ll let you in now.””Thanks.” I heard the door click open and I made my way to the house.Getting to the front door, I knocked. His housekeeper Vivian, opened the door.”Hello, McKenna. It’s been such a long time. How’re you doing?” She asked engulfing me in a bear hug.Vivian was Luke’s nanny since he was a kid. After his parents passed, she decided to stay back and take care of Luke till she’s up for retirement. She’s a very loving woman.”I’m good. How’re you? I hope Luke doesn’t stress you?” I asked as she released me.“Ohh, you know how the guy is.” She said chucklin
“What are you going to do now?” Luke asked.”I honestly don’t know, Luke. But one thing I’m sure of is the fact that I love him. I’m still in love with Jason.” I said.”McKenna, I get it. I totally do but you should understand what I’m saying too. Don’t let your love for Jason cloud your judgements. Your father had a reason for doing this, you know he never does anything without having a solid reason.” He said just as he parked the car at the underground parking of the hotel.”I know that. You wanna come in?” I got out and slammed the door.”Nahh, I’m gonna pass tonight. I have some work to turn in by Friday. Don’t want my boss giving me the ‘you ain’t doing the job I’m paying you for’ look.””I don’t have such look.” I said chuckling.”Uhh, yeah, you do.” He said.”Whatever.
I stood up and made my way to the door and there he stood. The man whom I intentionally broke his heart today. I hurt him and I wanna hate myself for it but I don’t.“Dixon!!” I called both their attention to myself. Dixon looked at me with heavy pleading eyes, he looked like he’s been stressing himself out too much.”McKenna, Princess, Please. I have to talk to you. It’s urgent.” He said.”It’s okay, Adeline. I got it.” My eyes focused on the owner of those mesmerizing grey eyes. Those captivating eyes belongs to an even more captivating man. His hair that looked as soft as a feather was styled messily on his head, his sharp jaw with a slight stubble made him look even more gorgeous. His cool grey eyes and the eyebrows that were scrunched together in concern and something else I couldn't point my finger on. The way his lips looked so pink, soft and luring me in. I felt my body tingling from just staring at him.”You sure? I can stay here if you want.”
The room suddenly became so silent that if a pin dropped, you'll have no problem hearing the sound. I've heard this before but why does it feel more real hearing it now? What are these feelings? As I stared at his eyes, for the first time in my life, I realized I want to keep staring at these mesmerizing orbs for as long as I'm permitted to."I told you I wasn't interested. I'm in love with Jason, I cant do that to you when I know deep within me that I'll always pick him." I said hoping to remind my heart of the truth. I watched as his eyes drooped in disappointment, he bent his head for a few seconds before looking back up."I know that but I've been friends with your family for years, I love your parents like they were mine. Don't do it cause of me, do it for them. I won't stand by and watch when I know something's wrong. I can't do it alone, I need your help." He said pleading with me with his eyes."Alright then. but..." My phone rang immediately cutting me
I took the elevator to the penthouse. Somehow, Ada seems to have disappeared from the lobby. I leaned my head to the cool wall of the elevator. Suddenly, I remember what transpired downstairs and a smile suddenly made its way to my face. I touched the cheek he kissed and I can swear I felt goosebumps all over my body. The elevator dinged indicating I have arrived on my floor. I stepped out and made my way to the house. I opened the door with my keys and entered."Adeline!!!! Are you here?""In the kitchen." She shouted back while I made my way to the kitchen. As I neared the kitchen, the sweet smell of the lasagna she was making filled the air. I entered to see her bent down placing the lasagna in the oven."What's with the cooking? You ordered Chinese food right before I ate." I said as I took my seat on the stand."Well, you left me here with nothing to do. I had to keep myself busy one way or the other. And for the food I ordered, I already ate all." S
Third Person's POV.BANG!It all happened in a split second. Dixon had turned around with a frown on his face as McKenna ran straight at him. But just as she reached him, her body jolted back into him, taking the impact of the bullet. It was the bullet that was to take his life. She took the bullet for him.One of the officers took the gun from Trevor quickly as another shot him in the leg. He let out a scream in pain. Sophie ran into the room, curious as to what caused the noise.Simon stared at the woman that came in with shock evident on his face. What was she doing here dressed as an FBI agent, he thought to himself as they stared at each other. He opened his mouth to say something, but the other agents pushed him and the others out of the room."MCKENNA!" Dixon shouted as he wrapped his arms around her, who came toppling down. Her eyes were filled with pain and tears, enough to make her u
McKenna's POV.Crying is the act of shedding tears in response to an emotional state. But after a certain threshold, even the tears runs out.My tears had long run out, and yet another sun was on the verge of setting. Another sunset without Dixon's arms wrapped around me every night when we'd go to the balcony after dinner to watch the sun disappear on the horizon and how he'd pull me closer when we played games in the living room with Ian and Liam.It had become their thing. A tradition that we never miss. I remember how Dixon would rush through meetings to make it back home in time before the sky is painted in various hues of purples and oranges. He'd kiss me softly as the last hue of orange disappeared, and I remember feeling like the happiest girl in the world.Dixon.He would have noticed her missing by now. I can't even imagine the pain and worry that he and every other person will

Third Person's POV.Everyone turned to look at the young woman who walked in like she had no care in the world with Dixon's father. Sophie knew that her coming here was a big step. The guys were intelligent, they would've uncovered the truth by now, but they don't know her mission yet.David stopped in his tracks when he saw his son. The two stared at each other, one not believing his eyes and the other thinking he doesn't want to see him. David moved closer to his son as he enveloped him in a tight hug. He couldn't believe his son was back after everything that had happened. Dixon smiled a little when he saw the exchange. Even though his dad never admits it, he knew how much he missed Leo. Luke saw red, anger coursing through every vein in his body. Sophie was the one that kidnapped her. What the hell was she doing here?"What are you doing here? Where did you take Kenna?" Ian said, his voice dripping with anger and hatred. "Wh
McKenna's POV.I opened my mouth to say something, but no words could form. The pain shooting from the back of my head also isn't helping matters. I watched as she walked to Trevor and placed a chaste kiss on his lips."What are you doing? I don't want my girl thinking we have a thing." He turned to me, an innocent smile on his face, but I knew better. "Don't worry, baby. I'm all yours."What the hell is he saying? He ran his finger down my cheek to my neck. Itried fighting him off, but I couldn't. His touch made my skin crawl, and I did the next reasonable thing I could think of at that moment. I spat on his face.He closed his eyes, letting my saliva trail down the side of his face. He laughed as he wiped it off. My face turned to the side as a harsh slap landed on my cheek. Another kick landed on the side of my stomach, making my insides churn. I swallowed my tears. If they think they can brea
McKenna's POV.My body hurts. I could feel the pain shooting at every single muscle in my body, my head pounding and some liquid flowing down my face. My hand reached out to massage my throbbing temples trying to alleviate some of the pain, but frustration coursed through my body at the inability to move.'Ugh, my head hurts.'I slowly opened my eyes to see that I was in a dark room except for the light peeking through the small window at the top of the room. I looked around the room for a way out, but there's nothing except the window. What am I doing here? How did I get here? I can't remember anything. Think, Kenny. Think. The only thing I seem to remember was the restroom and Sophie. My eyes seem to widen as I finally realized what happened. Yes, Sophie brought me here."Sophie!!! Sophie!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. My head hurts, but I need to talk to her. I'm sure she has he
Dixon's POV.I feel so happy and complete sitting here with Leo like old times. Seeing my brother after so many years has fulfilled me in more ways than one."She's a keeper then?" He asked me some minutes after McKenna left for the restroom. I looked up at him and smiled."Yeah, she is.""I'm proud of you, baby bro. You have no idea how much pride and joy I felt whenever I see you on television.""That weirdly made me feel good." I laughed out. I watched as his countenance changed within seconds. I know that look. He's beating himself up again."I'm sorry, Dix. I should have been there for you when you needed me the most. I should have believed in you sooner. I should've known you're strong enough to fight the disease. I shouldn't have walked out on you that day. I shouldn't---""You really need to stop apologizing. It's all behind us now.
McKenna's POV.I stared at the building in front of me in disbelief. I can't believe Dixon brought me here. I took my eyes off the building to look at him. He had both hands in his pockets as he stared in concentration at the building."A rehabilitation center?"He shrugged his shoulders before moving closer to the building. I placed my hand on his biceps to stop him. I can't, for the life of me, understand why he brought me here."What are we doing here, Dixon? You said we were going somewhere. I didn't know you were bringing me to a rehab center?""You don't want to come? We could go back if you want. I only came because you promised to come with me." His eyes looked sad as he said that. My brain seemed to receive some signal as I remembered the promise I made him."It's okay. I'm sorry you went through all that. I could go with you if you don't mind."
McKenna's POV."Well, well, well. If it isn't my favorite cousin."Dixon turned to him, anger emitting from him as he squeezed my hand.I placed my hand on his biceps, giving it a little squeeze, to calm him down. I don't want him getting angry at this event. It's supposed to be our breath of fresh air considering everything we've been through recently."What do you want, Trevor?" Trevor sipped his drink like he had no care in the world. The disgusting smirk on his face irks me to my bone, making my skin crawl."Can't a man be happy for his cousin? I came to celebrate with you. Congratulations on opening a new office, Dix.""Don't you fucking dare call me that!! You have no right." I can see the vein on his neck at this point. He's angry. I just hope he doesn't have a tantrum again. I looked at the man standing in front of me. He had a nasty smirk on his face and a glass with whiskey in his hand. I can't
