RONNELL POV
I sat in my office, my thoughts still preoccupied with the benefits and drawbacks of hiring Blair. Sure, she has an impressive resume, plus, Ella kept vouching for her but could I trust her to handle the high-pressure world of contract negotiation for my security company? It could get dangerous at times. After all, our intimate night together gave me the impression that she was more delicate than I thought, a stunning sexual being rather than a hot head. And honestly, she seemed too nice, and soft. I could see rivals walking all over her. Ella's words replayed in my mind, snapping me out of my thoughts. “I know that you might be skeptical but Blair here is good at what she does, and you won't regret it!” she had said. So, I relent, exhaling deeply. I make the final decision to give her a shot, to perhaps prove herself. Blair joined me the next day at our meeting, dressed professionally with a determined expression that was work-related. I honestly did appreciate the fact that she was trying to be a business-minded person at work. She seemed to put away the passionate side away, and as much as those memories tempted me, I had to maintain a professional distance. I needed her to focus on her job. “Good morning, Blair,” I greet, keeping my voice as neutral as possible. “Good morning, sir,” she replied, barely meeting my eyes before turning her whole attention to the stack of documents on the well-arranged table. I could sense the tension between us, but I stubbornly tried to push it away. “Let's get started, then,” I say, taking a seat across her. “We have got this potential deal to work as security agents for this big wedding, and I want to make sure that we are getting the best term as possible. I'd like to get your take on it, if this is something you can handle.” She glimpses at me with a hint of annoyance behind her gaze. “Sure,” she agrees, her tone equally bland as she flips through the contract, making notes and asking relevant questions. I watch her work, impressed by her focus and attention to detail. Perhaps, she truly had what it takes to succeed in business. “I have found a few clues that should be negotiated in your favor, agreeing to secure a big wedding like this has its pros and cons. Your employees are at bigger risk than if it was a private wedding.” She says and I nodded in agreement. As she expertly outlined her strategy for securing a better deal, I felt a grudging respect for her abilities. Maybe Ella was right—-Maybe Blair is more than just a pretty face and a fun night between the sheets. But as we continued to work together, I just couldn't shake the nagging doubt that lingered between us. “Can you come back tomorrow after we have concluded?” “Of course, Mr Roman,” she responded, giving me a small smile while she packed her things. “See you tomorrow then.” As I watched her walk away, I just couldn't deny the fact that I was indeed attracted to her in more ways than I didn't expect. But for now, I need to keep my focus on the success of my company, and that means keeping my eyes off incredible female packages. • • • The following day, I noticed Blair from across my office as she kept talking on the phone with a frustrated expression. Her brows were furrowed slightly, and she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear in frustration. She seemed to be hiding it but I could tell that the call wasn't going well. When she hung up with a sigh, I approached her. “Trouble in paradise?” I asked but instead, she shot me a glare. “It's nothing that I can't possibly handle. The client here is being unreasonable, but I have a few stunts up my sleeve,” she responded. I raised an eyebrow, surprised by her cofidence. “You seem so confident.” She straightened up, staring me down defiantly. “I may not have years of experience in this company but I know how to get exactly what I want. And your security company is sure to benefit from it.” A smile tugs at the corner of my lips as I fold my arms across my chest. “Why don't you prove it?” Blair smirks at me, grabbing the phone and dialing the client number again. I listen in disbelief as she lays out an airtight talk, backed with facts and figures to support her case. By the end of the call, the client not only agreed to her terms but also thanked her for the “opportunity.” When Blair hung up again, her eyes met mine in a challenge. But this time, all I see is her skill, her passion for the job, and her dedication to the success of my company. She had proven herself in more ways than one, and for the first time, I realized Ella was right all along. Blair was perfect for this job. “Well?” She prompts, hands on her hips. I clear my throat, trying to find the right words. “Impressive,” I finally say. Blair's features soften into a smile, her eyes glowing. And in that moment, I know that I'm in trouble. As the day moves further, I bring my focus to my security system and my own training, while Blair continues to take care of most of the company's contracts. As business operations begin spiraling down for the day, I check in with Blair to review her progress. As she flips through her notes, I lean over her shoulder for a better look, inhaling the alluring scent of her hair. And just as my thought is about to betray me, Ella bursts through the office door, and sees Blair and me in my office going over revised contracts, a knowing smile spread across her face. “I knew I made the right choice!” She says. “I'm so glad to see you two working so well together.” Her words deceptively casual, causing me to take a second look. “Ronnell, do you have a minute? I wanted to talk to you about something.” Blair excuses herself to make a call, leaving me alone with my sister. As soon as Blair is out of earshot, Ella turns to me with a stern look, her dark hair shadowing her features to near threatening level. “I know that look___ the way you stare at Blair.” She says with a sharp look in her eyes. “Don't even think about it, Ronnell, I knew how much your company meant to you, and I don't want you screwing her over. I know that she is hot but getting entangled with her is not a good idea.” “What are you talking about?” I grumbled, but I felt the flush creeping up my neck. Ella knows me too well. “I don't know what ideas you might be getting but I'm only impressed with her skills, nothing more.” “I'm dead serious,” she insists. “Blair is my best friend and I care about you both a lot to see things go the other way. You have to keep things professional or I would have no choice but to find you another person.” I opened my mouth to protest, but Ella silenced me with a glare. As much as I hate to admit it. She had a point. My life is finally getting back on track after years of struggle, and I can't afford to complicate that no matter how intriguing Blair might be. With a sigh, I nod in resignation. “Yes, Captain,” I told Ella. “All we would be doing is strictly professional.” “Good. I'm glad we understand each other.” Ella smiles, relieved, and gives me a quick hug. “Now, tell me how she's doing. I knew she'd be great.” As we discussed, I glanced at Blair's direction every now and then, her laughter drifting over to where we stood. Ella was right that I needed to be careful, but that doesn't mean I could ignore the tension between Blair and me, I was challenging all the barriers I had not to cross the line, and that is what I'm going to do.BLAIR POVThe moment I finished making the call, I walked back to Ronnell's office to notice that he had finished his conversation with Ella. I composed myself while he reviewed my work. Well, mostly. My cheeks still burn at the thought of our first night together, his fingers running through every angle of my body, and the sight of him sitting in front of me right now, looking very gorgeous, made my body quiver.I just couldn't deny the chemistry I felt between us, as much as I might want to. It was foolish of me to think one incredible night with him wouldn't impact things or make our working relationship awkward. Ronnell wheels something deep inside me, a craving I have never known. And it was one that threatens to consume me whole if I'm not careful. “Blair, are you here with us?” Ronnell's voice brought me back from my thoughts. I can't even remember what we had been discussing, and it all thanks to him, he was just too close to me and staring at me with those seductive eyes o
BLAIR POV“Well, you seem happy and relaxed. I see you have wasted no time moving on.” Smith voiced out in anger. “What the hell are you doing here, Smith?” I blasted back, causing Ronnell to straighten himself. “Does he have any idea that you are just using him to get back at me?” Smith spit out, shaking his head in the process. I blink my eyes, certain his attack can't be real. I walked up to him with furrowed brows. “Smith, why on earth are you here?” I hit him with clenched teeth, still shocked by his presence. His expression only tends to lighten up as he gets even more closer and regret washes across his eyes. “I saw your car parked out front and I was skeptical if it was yours. I wanted to see you, I guess but I never expected to see that___.” he gestures towards Ronnell, who continues to watch our every move, wound tight. “Well, you can't just walk into my life whenever you want because you are not going to like what you see,” I fire back. “You can't always insinuate that
BLAIR POVFor one hundred and one days of working in Ronnell's company, I arrived at the office at eight a.m., sat down at my desk, flipped open a notepad, and neatly wrote my schedule down. And at the bottom, following the notation for the last meeting of the day. I pulled open the drawer of my desk to restock them with candy. Those were the only things that allowed me to release a tiny drip of the anger I swallowed down daily. When Ronnell's demands became unbearable, I used them to sort my own anger. I took out the file, and ran my fingers over it before sighing deeply. The therapist I'd been forced to see when I was a young teen would definitely be proud of me right now. Once I had gone through the file and my desk was back to its neat position. I ran through my usual routine before Ronnell arrived for the day. Lately, it has been me going to the bathroom, break room, bathroom, Fatigue, backache. My bladder seems like it would burst out from frequent urination, which meant I spe
RONNELL POVWe had just finished my meeting with Mathew and William. Blair and I were in the back of my Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire drop-tail, being driven to the office. Traffic crawled, taking several minutes of travel a handful of feet. Fortunately, I had my phone and laptop. Blair on the other hand sat silently, while tapping away on her phone. Perhaps, she was making efficient use of her time. I stared at the email on my laptop. Details were very important to me. If I missed a single word or number, it could be a huge problem for me. That was why I didn't miss anything untouched, I studied details to avoid fumbling. Yet, I'd missed a glaring one.Blair was pregnant. But how? I know for sure that she wasn't married ___was this for her ex-boyfriend that came in the other day or was this my child from the one-night stand we shared? Was that even possible? I honestly had no idea about it until Mathew who was a doctor told me. How could I have missed noticing the changes in her? Her
BLAIR POVI halted a little the moment I noticed an unfamiliar face behind my office desk doing something around my chair. I hated that chair ever since I sat on it, and I even hated it more ever since I started feeling so much backache and fatigue lately. I was fairly certain that it would shove me to the floor if I shifted the wrong way but still. It was mine. My steps picked up speed, intent on defending my chair. But as I drew closer, the butter-like leather and plush cushions came into focus. It wasn't my chair after all. My exhaustion from a night of interrupted sleep— my sleep time seemed to be short recently, due to the fact that my thoughts were clustered with so many worries. Could I raise this child alone as a single mom? Whose child was I even carrying?I sighed heavily trying to push the thought away. It took me a long moment to realize that the man behind my desk was a delivery guy, not some random man off the street.“Hey,” I called calmly while I approached my desk.
BLAIR POVI looked through the clothing price tag and my eyes wouldn't stop bulging out at the ridiculous prices, and right now, I had next to no budget. I hadn't even told Ella yet about my newfound secret___she had been away preparing for her wedding and I just didn't want to shove this kind of news down her throat. Finally, I was able to find a few things at a thrift store close to my house. Brown and black where what picked my interest, since those were my ideal types these days. Hopefully, I’d be up to douse for Ronnell. If he said anything else about my clothes. I'd likely jab him with my pen. I honestly didn't like how it felt when he'd told me that I couldn't wear my dress anymore. I should be the only one to stop wearing them when I wanted to. I kept replaying the way he'd looked at me when he said it. Like he had been embarrassed for me that I couldn't fit my body into an item of proper clothing. It wasn't like he paid me a whole hell of a lot that would make me a millio
RONNELL POVThe weekend brunch Tradition we started after college had balloned. today, it wasn't just William, Mathew, and me. Today, William's sister, Mia, graced us with her presence. Not that Mia was bad, exactly. there was just...a friction between us, a static charge built from year's of childhood sniping. But williiam was practically a brother, so I endured Mia for his sake. (besides, she drove William equally crazy)Our table was situated at our favorite brunch spot, overlooking the sidewalk. The early autumn sun was positioned directly above us, providing a beacon of warmth on a mildly chilly day. “I'm surprised you're here, Ron, you have been less active__” Sarah remarked. “It seems like you've made It to more brunches than you've missed lately.” I looked up from my menu, which I didn't really need since I almost always ordered the same thing. “Is that a complaint?”I knew that it wasn't. Sarah was my cousin who was married to Mathew, and we were really close. Both our pare
RONNELL POVBlair was already hailing a cab when I caught up. Her shoulders were hunched, a stark unlikeness to her usual posture, and she clutched her bag tightly to her side."You should come back," I said, stopping in front of her. "Sarah will have my head if I let you leave without joining us."Blair was usually impeccably dressed, with her hair styled and clothes nice and simple. Today, her hair was pulled back willy-nilly in a bun, and a baggy hoodie and leggings replaced her usual attire."I don't think—I can't really," she stammered, tugging self-consciously at the hem of her hoodie. "Honestly, I don't know about crashing an unplanned dinner, and everyone else—""You look good, Blair," I interrupted gently. "No one will judge you for a hoodie, especially at nearly four months pregnant."Surprise flickered across her face, followed by a flicker of confusion. "Wait, you know how far—?""Of course," I said with a smile. "You told me, and it wasn't exactly a math equation after th
