The next few days were without events. Mira completed all the embroidery work that she had bought home by the time Jack returned home on Thursday.âI will come to the city with you tomorrow.â Mira informed Jack as they sat for supper.âSo fast?â Jack raised his eyebrows âDidnât your Madam give you 10 days?ââUmâ Mira nodded âBut I finished them early.ââLove donât tire yourself. I will work harder.â Jack frowned. He knew she was straining herself too much.âNot hard.â Mira smiled âThe stand you made for me is too good. I donât get tired that easily. We need to pay our debts and get better.ââI will make those stands.â Jack pursed his lips âLet me do the hard work.ââWe will work together.â Mira smiled sweetly as she leaned onto his shoulders.âUmâ Jack nodded with determination. He would work harder so that his wife didnât have to tire herself.âThe seedlings have all grown.â Mira remembered as they laid down.âUmâ Jack nodded. âI will go to Godfatherâs to pick up the horses for ploug
Mira was so happy, she literally skipped all the way to Almeraâs shop. âSomeoneâs very happy.â Almera spoke with a lopsided grin. âYour brother called you a dragon.â Mira giggled and whispered. âAnd heâs the baby dragon.â Almera scoffed. âWhat are you going to do with this?â Almera asked curiously as she saw Mira playing around with the cloth, she took from the rag section. âI was still thinking.â Mira kept fiddling with the cloth before asking with a curious expression âHow long does it take to make a neckerchief normally?â âVaries on the pattern and experience.â Almera shrugged âMy most experienced worker might take a day for a complex pattern with embroidery. The less experienced can take 2 days.â âUmâ Mira nodded pursing her lips. âDo you embroider?â Mira asked curiously. âYes⌠but only my own clothes.â Mira nodded as she carefully took the watch pendant Almera gave her, like a precious treasure and opened to look at the time. It was getting almost 2 pm. She decided to sl
Jack hurried over to Uncle Harryâs place. He wanted to get back to his wife quickly. He saw Uncle Harry loading sacks on to a cart. Jack rushed over to help. âGodfatherâ Jack called out as he bend down to pick a sack and load it. âJackâŚâ Harry laughed âI thought you guys have forgotten when I didnât see you yesterday.â âThatâŚâ Jack scratched the back of his head; his face filling with an unnatural color. How could he tell Godfather that he forgot time staring at his wife? âHaâŚ.haâŚ.haâŚ.â Harry laughed even louder without giving him any face. âGodfather, can I borrow the plough horses again this week?â âYes⌠yes⌠I have got everything ready for you.â Harry pointed at the cart that was loaded. âThisâŚ.â âIt is the manure that you need. I had to go to Larkinâs and got it along the way.â Harry lied with his eyes wide open. âThereâs 10 bags of cow manure, sheep manure and hen manure. You have to mix it properly before spreading it.â Harry started to explain but soon sighed shaking hi
âLove, what are you doing?â Jack raised his hand to tuck a loose strand of hair that fell on to her face. âI am getting dinner ready.â Mira smiled bashfully before raising her eyebrows in concern âHungry?â âUmâ Jack nodded truthfully; He lowered his voice and asked, âIs there enough for everyone?â âUmâ Mira nodded âI have used all our eggs and fish.â She added in after thought âLuckily we went fishing yesterday.â âUmâ Jack chuckled âMy wife is clever.â âI have made a special something with the eggs.â Mira smiled mysteriously as she lowered her voice and whispered, âThis is something I learned in my previous life.â âLove, I am even more hungry now.â Jack feigned a pitiful expression. âThere is enough for everyone.â Mira tapped his hands that were extending towards her but sighed softly âI hope.â âHelp me bring the table from the outer storeroom.â âThereâs a table in that room?â Jack asked in surprise. He had never really paid much attention to the things in the room. âUm⌠ther
Mira opened the second room and started to work once everyone went. She finished the neckerchief for Godmother before the daylight went off and then with the light from the fireplace, she started to look at the work she bought back from Almera. She chose one that she thought was easier. The pattern was a floral design starting at the waist going all the way down to the hem of skirt of the ball gown. This had to be repeated eight times. The design was a narrow single vine near the waist and would grow thicker as it went down, ending up at least 5 inches wide for a single pattern. The hem of the skirt was a single vine connecting all the vines radiating down. The cloth was a royal purple in color; Mira chose to use darkest shade of purple for the inner shadings of the flowers on the pattern while the parts were done in a lighter shade⌠almost close to pink⌠like a purple pink. The vines and leaves were done using dark and light shades of teal green. Jack cleared the backyard; He tidie
She lighted the rushlight and placed it near the stand. She examined the next 2 works before deciding on which one to start. She looked at the time on the pocket watch, it was 6 and a half hour, she scribbled the time on her cloth. The one she selected to work on, required a floral pattern all over the skirt; it was 5.5 yards wide and 1.5 yard long. Mira drew the pattern on skirt; the pattern was 1.5 yard long and 1 yard wide. She divided her work into 5 parts and set the task for her to finish one part today. Jack came in another 2 hours later âLove, I am hungry.â âUm.â Mira nodded as she quickly finished the stitch she was doing and got up after scribbling 8 and half on her cloth. âFinished?â Mira asked curiously; She had not seen him the whole day. âUmâ Jack lips curled up slyly as he saw her walk out of the room. He quickly entered and opened the back door. He came out and locked the door near the front room as Mira always does when she leaves the work room since learning the r
âHow are we going to take the slate stands to the city?â Mira frowned as she ate her breakfast and thought of the troublesome problem. âYou stay.â Jack hurried to the carriage ride stop. Sometimes they would be carts for hire at 50 silver pieces for a day. Luckily there were two; Jack needed only one. He decided to spend the money. He paid from the pouch Mira had given him and rode back home. Mira was waiting anxiously at the door. âHow did you get it?â Mira asked as her frown disappeared. âHire for a day.â Jack pursed his lips âWife, I have spent 50 silver pieces.â He handed the money pouch back to her. âThatâs okay.â Mira smiled although her heart was bleeding; She knew there was no other way for them to carry the frames. Jack loaded all the five frames and helped Mira into the cart before getting in. They talked all the way and rode at a leisurely pace. Along the way, Jack taught Mira to ride the cart. Even so, they reached earlier than normal. Jack left the cart with Mira so
Almera wanted to find her younger brother and box his ears out when his footman arrived requesting if she could go over to his shop. âMy dear sister, tell me which one of us loves you best when I show what I have for you.â Aldrin grinned as he saw his sister entering. Almera hooked her eyebrows. Aldrin took her to the back room where stock was stored and showed her the adjustable height stand that he bought from Mira with a grand unveiling gesture. âJust this!â Almera twisted her lips in disdain. âJust this???â Aldrin shrieked miserably. If he put this on display, the grand madams would buy it for even 20 gold coins without blinking. He thought of his sister and wanted the best to be hers and didnât even flinch at the thought of losing the easy pie. âI own one better than this.â Almera rolled her eyes and lifted her chin with feigned contempt. She would have drooled if she saw this yesterday, but todayâŚ. Mira had already gifted her one that could not only adjust the height of the
Jerome lifted his eyebrows quizzically towards Cyan, who looked equally baffled; Neither could make sense of the duoâs ramblings and yet strangely, they could feel the regret and sadness emanating from them.âDid we know each other before?â Jerome turned back to the two sloths who were drowning in self- blame and asked cautiously.âKnow???â Harry scoffed before shaking his head regretfully âNoâŚ. we donât deserve to claim to know you⌠we couldnât even find you in so many yearsâŚ. How could we claim to know you?âThey say men never cry and yet, streams of hot tears ran down the faces of the two men sitting before him and oddly this made his heart ache as well.The four men sat silently sipping their drinks, gloom looming in the room; no one dared to break the solemness in the room, partly because they didnât know how to.Jerome, who was rarely short for words suddenly didnât know what to say; he wasnât sure if he had unknowingly hurt the two men in front of him.Matthew and Harry sunk in
âSearch the whole mansion.â The man roared in anger âI want those old bastards before me in 5 minutes or I will skin you all alive.âThe men, guards and servants all scattered in fear, searching frantically.Meanwhile, neither Matthew nor Harry was in a rush, they methodically searched the mansion, from one end to the other. Not only did they search all the rooms, but also the tunnels and secret rooms that not even the men in the mansion were aware of.The man stood frozen among the chaos as he heard cry of a goshawk; although the cry of a goshawk was strange in their mansion as there were no goshawks and no hunting grounds nearby to justify the sound, he seemed to be very familiar with this sound. He frowned trying to place the sound, only to have triggered a headache.âChief are you alright?â one of the guards went forward and stretched out his hands in concern, in an attempt to steady his boss; the man slowly straightened his back and without any change or reflection of his inner t
Matthew and Harry stood in front of the weird looking mansion with an unreadable expression. There was a reason for their mood; this was the very mansion that they had won in a gamble along with their dear friend, Jerome in their carefree younger days. The mansions aesthetics were the result of their rebellion towards the norms that existed regarding the do's and donât of building mansions for nobility.They had never thought of this place as they had never returned after wining the bet and remodelling the place. Gradually as their days and exploits became too many to count on fingers, as their adventures and achievements started to leave a mark on every feat they undertook, as one of the first and more insignificant feat, this place seemed to lose its original lustre and was tucked away in their memories, only to be forgotten; But now that they were standing in front of it, how could they not remember?The trio had personally deformed the place with their own hands and with the guidan
Matthew left Southamberston palace in the wee hours of the morning, he didnât take the carriage that was carefully prepared for him and took the horse that he had taken a fancy to and rode off; his first stop was his office to leave instructions for his assistant and also to let them know that he wouldnât be coming in for the next 2 days due to urgent family matter.As soon as Matthew came out of the chamber of trade and book of hereditary rights, he saw Harry waiting anxiously, next to his ride, mounted and ready to bolt the minute he came.âYou took the beauty even before I woke upâŚâ Harry chuckled as he leaned forward and rubbed the mane of Matthew's ride âYou didnât play fair.ââHur ⌠.hurâŚhurâŚâ Matthew chuckled smugly as he jumped on to his ride and the two friends rode, bickering non-stop just like the good old days.It took half a day of riding non-stop to reach the west end of the water tribe county, the poor horses were ridden to their death when they finally alighted at the i
They returned to the manor by late afternoon and had the footman deliver all the items that they had purchased from Old Joe to the cottage where Martha and the rest were staying.As they were planning to leave, Jack called Lazarus to instruct him to leave behind 2 men to guard the manor.âYour grace, two men wonât be enough to cover the expanse of the land.â Lazarus shook his head as he explained âThe woods of the manor border three other properties of which one is commoner property, and one belongs to someone who does not have a good reputation. Now that your graceâs status has been elevated, there might be unnecessary eyes on the property.â He paused before adding âI have brought six men that can be left here to guard the place if your grace permits.ââGo ahead.â Jack nodded while Mira asked in a low voice âCan those men cook on their own? Should we transfer a cook from the main house?ââThey are rough men⌠they can take care of themselves.â Lazarus shook his head although he was hap
For the rest of the morning, Mira taught Sierra how to make the flowers and leaves with the remaining satin cloth she had in space; of course, she pretended to take the spare cloths from her work room in the manor. She stayed with them for the entire morning, until the Jack came over with grievance in his eyes âWife, I am hungry.ââAhaâŚ. I forgot âŚ. Wait, I will make you, your favorite meal.â Mira smiled sweetly as she rushed to pacify her husband.Jessie, Martha and Sierra struggled to hold their laughter till the shameless couple walked away before bursting out laughing.Once lunch was ready, Mira didnât forget to give more than half of the meal to Martha âCall everyone and share among yourself.ââThank youâ Martha bowed as she whispered in a soft voice. They were just worrying about food when their master brought them a generous share of meat and bread. In their excitement to start a new life, at Miraâs invitation, they grabbed their belonging and set off in the morning without thin
âAre you crazy?â Mira frowned once she saw what was written; previously when they were discussing although she couldnât hear them, she assumed that they were discussing how long they wanted to work for her. She felt like she had crows flying around her head once she read what Sierra had scribbled; before she could stop them, she had done the same to Marthaâs contract. Martha hurriedly signed as she heard Mira, worried that she would stop her and grinned happily as she handed the contract saying, âIts signed.â âYeah⌠now you cannot get rid of us in this lifetime.â Sierra too laughed happily. Mira seemed momentarily lost in a daze; she forgot to respond; she remembered that they had said the same thing in their last life when they found her sitting on her own and crying her heart out, overwhelmed by loneliness. They sat on either side of her and promised her that they would always accompany her, never leaving her side and even joked with the same words 'you cannot get rid of us in thi
The carriage stopped at the manor; it was a short ride. Jack and Mira alighted from the carriage without waiting for the etiquette that was customary in the circle of nobility.Miraâs face lit up, her lips curling up into a blissfully happy arc as she whispered, âWe are back.ââUmâ Jack habitually snaked his arm around her waist and walked forward; he raised his hand to gesture the footman to stay back, conveying that their services were no longer required.âHelp the ladies with their luggage and rest after that till we are ready to leave.â Mira turned around and instructed in a gentle tone at the footman who was waiting eagerly for his masterâs orders while Jack opened the doors.âLetâs open the side gate and lead the ladies to their homes before resting.â Mira spoke softly, as she looked at the footmen who were carrying the heavy suitcase over.âUmâ Jack nodded and silently walked over to the side wicket gate on the right side of the manor and opened it. He walked in along with Mira;
âI asked you if there is a chanceâŚ.â Mira smiled mischievously âWhat will you be willing to do to get that chance?ââI could sell my soul to the devil for that chance.â Jessieâs face beamed with genuine happiness as she boldly declared; there wasn't even the slightest hint of hesitation on her face.âHow about selling it to me?â Mira lifted her chin arrogantly, her lips curling in a happy arc âI am much prettier and kinder than the devil.âJack inwardly shook his head helplessly as he looked at his wife, who was smiling happily like a sly fox, with eyes filled with affection.âHaâŚ.haâŚhaâŚâ Jessie laughed watching Miraâs adorable actions before sighing âThank you for listening so patiently. I donât know why I told you all this. I donât even know you.ââI am not joking.â Miraâs expression turned serious âWhat if I can give you that chance? Are you willing?âJessie looked at Mira for a long time with a sizing gaze before shaking her head, âWhy me? I have nothing to offer.âMira pursed her
