The process was well thought through. There were two guards manning the gate. Only two, at the most four, people were allowed to enter. At the counter stood six of the king’s most trusted men. They would take the entry and attach a number to the entry and give a cloth badge with the same number to the participant. This would then be put into the rolling drum like bin with other entries and the whole bin rotated so that no one could guess who the entry belonged to.
