At Home

Elena's pov
**************
It felt surreal that I had a date with Anthony the next day. As I drove home I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear, it would be my first after almost two years.
The last date with Mike, the son of my father's childhood friend, left a sour taste in my mouth. He reeked of arrogance and wouldn't stop paying me compliments for my looks, though I didn't mind the compliment I was baffled at how he smiled and flirted with females we came in contact with.
"I'm just trying to be nice." He said over and over again. Trying to make light of his behavior, I endured the night for the sake of my father and to avoid my mother's nagging.
Though father understood why I wouldn't date Mike when I told him, mother threw tantrums. She pleaded and tried to make excuses for Mike but I knew she didn't choose him because he was going to be a good husband to me but because he was from a wealthy and affluent family like ours. When her nagging became too much father stepped in and cautioned her to put my happiness before hers.
She had cried and accused Father of accusing her falsely "You know I love Elena more than myself." She wailed and wouldn't stop till dad apologized and got her another set of expensive jewelry which would be discarded like the others once she had shown it off to her friends.
As I thought about my last date and mother, I made up my mind never to tell her about Anthony and our planned date. I didn't want it ruined, I would keep it a secret till it becomes necessary. After all, I wasn't even sure if it would work between us, the spark I feel around him might be my body reacting to sexual sparks.
When I got home later in the day, I was greeted with a loud shout of "surprise" from my parents and some guests. The downstairs sitting room was decorated with balloons and a sign with "Congratulations on your graduation" written on it. I should have known my mother would insist on throwing a party, she never misses an opportunity to throw a party no matter how irrelevant the reason for the party was, she always ensured it was glamorous and lavish.
"You are late." Mother chided me when we were alone. "Where have you been, you had your guests waiting for you. I've never been so embarrassed in my entire life."
"Sorry mum," I replied I knew defending myself would only make things worse.
"Saying sorry isn't enough, you were meant to be home two hours ago."
"I was stuck in traffic, I told you when you called."
She stared hard at me and I wondered if she knew that I was lying. Further throbbing from her and I would spill, I had never been able to tell a lie. Father must have noticed my discomfort and came calling.
"Elena, the guests are here to see you. Move around and greet them, you and your mother can continue with your discussion later on.
" Okay father," I said and from the mischievous look in his eyes, I knew he had come to rescue me. "Thank you." I smiled and walked away.
The next hour was spent talking to the guests, most of them were strangers to me. I was exhausted by the time the party was over, my legs were sore from standing for so long and I craved for my bed.
"Did you enjoy your party?" Father asked me. He sat beside me on the three-seater white leather chair in the sitting room.
"Yes, I did," I replied and took another bite into the shawarma that I was eating. I hadn't realized how hungry I was.
"So what are your plans now that you are home?"
"Can we talk about that tomorrow Dad? I'm exhausted already."
"The party was a huge success just as I hoped it would be. Thank God the guests were patient enough considering how late you came to your party." Mother said.
She was still angry that I was late, I had already forgotten about my date tomorrow, I blushed as I remembered about Anthony.
"I'm sorry for coming home late." I said again but didn't wait for my mother to reply "I have to go to bed now, I'm exhausted." I stood up and kissed them both on the cheeks before heading to my room. I could see the disappointment in my mother's eyes but I was too tired and crampy.
***********
I was so tired that I slumped on my bed and slept off almost immediately.
"You are here," I whispered to him, surprised to see him lying next to me on the bed.
"How did you get here, I can't remember giving you my address. Though I don't mind having you here with me." I said smiling down at him. His eyes sparkled as he held my face in his hands, he still didn't speak but his eyes, those eyes spoke words only my heart could comprehend.
His lips looked so soft that I wanted nothing but to kiss him, my lips parted on their own. He drew his head closer to mine, and I closed my eyes waiting, breathing heavily.
The loud knock on the door jolted me and I woke up. Feeling disoriented I searched for him, but he wasn't there. It had only been a dream, a sweet dream I would like to relive.
The knock on the door came again. I knew it would be one of the house servants, so I called for the person to enter the room.
"Good morning ma'am Elena. Madam said you should come down for breakfast." The young female servant said.
I was not hungry but I knew mother wouldn't take no for an answer. "Okay, let me freshen up," I said dismissing her.
I quickly showered and wore a t-shirt and shorts with a pair of slippers. When I got to the dining table, dad was almost through with his breakfast of fried eggs and toast.
"Good morning dad, mum," I said and sat at the chair facing mum. She glanced over me and I knew she wasn't pleased with my choice of clothing. She liked us to be fully dressed before coming to the table. According to her, a guest could walk in on us and we had to look presentable.
I had to give it to her as she was regally dressed as always, she wore a sparkly green dress with a tiny chain around her neck. Her hair was packed in a bun and her face had full makeup. She looked as though she was attending a business meeting rather than a simple breakfast.
"What are your plans for today," Mother asked me, as she scooped a spoonful of omelet into her mouth. She chewed her food slowly as if trying to imprint the taste into her mind. I have always been in awe of my mother, she was perfect in my eyes.
"Nothing much," I replied. I couldn't tell her about my date.
"I want you to follow me to the saloon later in the day, your hair looks tattered and your nails need new paint." Mother replied smiling at me
I smiled back thinking of how to say no to her suggestion.
"Tomorrow mum, I want to stay home today."
"Are you unwell, I could call the doctor."
"No," I replied too quickly and loudly, gaining myself a sharp look from both parents. "I just want to rest, I was really tired yesterday.
" Tomorrow then." Mother replied and continued eating. I took a plate and added a toast and one boiled egg with a cup of black coffee. My mind was in a daze and my stomach churned in anticipation of my date with Anthony. As I ate I couldn't help but imagine what he was doing at that moment, a sigh escaped my mouth followed by a grin.
First Date***************Narrators pov***************He stood at the cafe door patiently waiting for her, she was already 10 minutes late.Anthony made up his mind that even if she doesn't come, he would understand. Their meeting each other had been a coincidence and whatever spark he felt they both had must have diminished for her. However, he waited and hoped it wasn't the case. He wanted to know her better, she had been on his mind all day long. Though he didn't have much money to offer, he knew he had the emotional support and care to give, and someday he would have the money too. He hoped to get a good job soon.Anthony glanced at his watch again, he had been standing here close to 30minutes now and people were beginning to stare and this made him uncomfortable. He began to give up, "she probably wouldn't come, what was I thinking" he admonished himself.
Is this love****************Anthony's pov*****************I felt dejected and unworthy when Elena didn't show up on time. I wondered if I had been over my head thinking she would love me or even have an interest in me. She was beautiful, rich, and probably had everything she wanted, even male admirers.I felt like kicking myself in the guts, how could I be so foolish, a girl like her could not be single, or could she. I paced the lawn of the restaurant, as different thoughts came to my mind.I wanted to call her number but stopped midway, for the first time in my life I didn't know what I would say to her. So I decided to wait for her and when I lost all hope of Elena coming I felt a gentle tap on my shoulder and there she was standing before me looking elegant and graceful.I forgot my worries and apprehension, I wanted nothing more than to be with
His home*************Elena's pov*************The day went fast. After breakfast, I went up to my room to start preparing for my visit to Anthony's home. He had wanted us to meet again after our date and I couldn't have asked for anything else. All I wanted was to be close to him always.I quickly showered, moisturized, and applied my makeup. I took my time to ensure that I did a good job on my face and what I saw in the mirror pleased me.My blue jumpsuit was carefully laid on the bed and at the foot of my bed was my high-heeled white shoes. It pleased me a lot that Anthony was tall and I could wear my heels without making him look smaller than me."Are you going somewhere?" My mother asked as she walked into my room. I wasn't expecting her and also I did not want her to know where I was going. Intruding on my privacy never bothered her, she walked in and out of my room wheneve
I want you******************Anthony's pov******************When I saw Elena standing close to her car, clutching her bag in one hand and trying to put a call through her phone in the other hand, while a young boy stood facing her, I felt my heart skip a bit. My immediate thought was that she was in danger and being harassed by the young man. However, when I got closer to where she was standing, I noticed it was Haruna standing close to her looking smitten by her. I didn't blame him though, I was also smitten and mesmerized by her."Hello beautiful," I said tapping her on the shoulder as I came close to where they were standing."Anthony." She replied and turned to face me, I could see the relief wash through her, and the way she called out my name seductively as if caressing the words made my body react with want."Is Haruna bothering you," I said to
Anxious***************Narrators pov****************"Who is she?" Josh asked as he walked around the pool table. He needed to pot the last ball to win the game."Who?" Anthony understood what he meant by the question but ignored his friend. He didn't want to talk about his relationship with Elena especially since he wasn't sure about his stand with her. They had been inseparable this past month, they went for quick strolls, dates and made passionate love but he still didn't know where she lived. He had asked her to introduce him to her parents but she gav
Positive*************Elena's pov*************I woke up feeling worse for wear, my head pinned and my stomach felt bloated. My first thought was that I might be coming up with the flu but when nausea hit me hard and I threw up, I immediately changed my mind. I surely had malaria and not the flu, or so I thought.I managed to have a bath before going down for breakfast, mother had asked the servant to get me otherwise I would have preferred to stay in bed.
I wasn't expecting this****************Anthonys pov****************"We are pregnant"That was the last thing I was expecting to hear when Elena called me. I had tried reaching her for two days straight but always met a dead end. Her phone was switched off and I didn't know where she lived as she had refused my coming over to her home. "Very soon." She would say anytime I brought the issue up.I was so worried and thought the worst had happened. When my ph

Making a decision***************Elena's POV***************I have always imagined what it would be like when Anthony returned with Emma, the thought had kept me going for all these years.I planned to ask him for forgiveness and beg him to take me back. But as days went by, the possibility of his return began to diminish. My heart started turning cold towards him, sometimes I blamed Anthony for our failed marriage, and other times I blamed myself.Anthony's r
I want us back*****************Narrators POV*****************"The kids seemed to be having lots of fun." Anthony sipped his cocktail enjoying the scene before him. Emma and Ava were splashing water around inside in the pool giggling and swimming around the pool. First date,(sort of)****************Narrators pov****************Anthony and Emma left the mansion for their own home a few minutes past nine at night. Regrets******************Anthony's POV******************I left with anger and vowed never to return. My mind was made up concerning my marriage to Elena, for the sanity I had to end it all.My only regret was leaving my other daughter behind. I knew I would miss her growing up, I might never get to hear her call me Daddy. But at that moment when I took Emma with me, all I could think about was getting away, far from the Badmus family. It was either that or lose my self-respect and dignity.
My love, my life, my everything*************Elena's pov*************I've had it up to my neck with Ava's whining and complaining. The new girl had rattled her up so bad, nothing seems to satisfy her any longer, all she does now is trying to outdo the new girl.I have shouted, cajoled, and even threatened to withdraw her pocket money but she has become worse. I only pray it's just a passing phase, sometimes I wish her father was around to talk to her, maybe he would have done a better job than me.I will be filing for a divorce tomorrow at my lawyer's office. I'm hoping that this would give me the closure I need to move on with my life.
