"Mindy, I'm taking you with me. Stop clinging to me," Max said irritably as Mindy stuck to him like glue, muttering incessantly.

"You need to behave. If you keep this up, I'll leave you behind," Max warned.

"You can't leave me! I've lost everything for you. I won't let you abandon me!" Mindy's already fragile mental state crumbled further at his words. She clung tightly to Max's arm, shaking him desperately.

"Let go of me, Mindy!" Max yelled, noticing that I had already pushed open the stairwell door. He shoved her aside.

"You yelled at me again. You can't treat me like this," Mindy sobbed, gripping Max's coat even tighter.

"Let go!" Max struggled as Mindy continued to cry and cling to him, making it hard for him to move. In her desperation, she tried to grab the knife from his hand.

Max wasn't about to hand over the knife to a ticking time bomb like Mindy. He quickly lifted his arm to keep it out of her reach.
