A week later, Lydia was ready to resume work. She dressed up and had breakfast with the kids, whose exams had already begun.

Carson made sure to drive her to work, where her bodyguards were waiting for her. Carson advised her to be careful of whatever she signed to avoid any problems.

She appreciated him for allowing her to return to work because he was sort of adamant about it. After his father's announcement, Carson asked him to give Lydia more time to rest.

She disagreed with him and stated that it would be the best distraction for her.

They finally reached the company and Carson stopped the car in the parking lot.

“Remember all that I said to you,” Carson said in a pleading tone.

“I've heard you say those words throughout the week, and you expect me not to remember,” She said, funnily.

Carson lowered his gaze and laughed briefly.

“Anyways, I've learned my lesson and never want to be involved with cops again. Be rest assured that careful will be my middle name” She said joki

Staring at him, the only feeling that Lydia had was total disgust. How dare he say that he loved her after so much time. During the six years of their marriage, he never showed her any love, the only situation he placed her in was misery and worthlessness. In all her years with him, she never experienced any ounce of affection even when she yearned and begged for it, she only received pain. And he dared to speak about love. What love? He certainly didn't understand its true meaning, what did he expect her to do or say after his stupid confession? Did he think his display of stupidity would melt her heart and bring her back to him? Was that his plan? Lydia looked around and said to the employees who had become onlookers. “All of you get back to work!” Lydia yelled and immediately they focused on their duties. No one dared to look at them because they had never heard Lydia yell in that manner or in such an angry tone. Lydia walked to him and shook her head in pity. “George, I sp

Lydia's heart pounded loudly in her chest, she was nervous about the conversation. “I've obtained from a certain source that your ex-husband has been coming to the company frequently, and the employees are already talking. I don't want such gossips” Mr. Ray said, he was displeased by it. Lydia sighed and quickly apologized; “I'm sorry for the chaos he has been causing, his actions are out of my control, but I've decided to file a restraining order against him.”“ I can assure you that there's nothing between George and I. That man destroyed my life, and I found a will to live again when I met Carson. I wouldn't do anything to betray him.” Mr. Ray shook his head and clarified. “I'm not accusing you of anything. I would never doubt you, I came to confirm the rumors I heard and also to ask if I should take care of George in my way.” “No, you shouldn't associate yourself with that sort of person. I'll file a restraining order before today ends. I'm sorry for the inconvenience that th

George snapped out of his imagination as the door closed. He clenched his hands and pursed his lips upwards. He might not kill Carson now, but because Carson was a huge obstacle to his new plans. He would still have to kill him. George turned away from the door and smirked. He removed his hands from his pockets and went back to his desk. He sat heavily on his swivel chair and turned around. He put his hand on his chin and rubbed it gently. Evil thoughts filled his mind. He realized that Carson was the only surviving child of Mr. Ray, if something happened to Carson, then Lydia would be the sole heir of the company or something close to that. George smiled at his thoughts. Once that happens, he seduces Lydia during her grief and finds a way to claim her back. He could get her pregnant or use the opportunity of her weakness to steal the company away from her. That was his plan. Begging Lydia and going as far as kneeling on the floor for her wasn't because he felt some kind of gui

It was quite hilarious running around the house like kids, but eventually, they got tired and sat on the couch. “On a serious note, are you angry?” Carson asked, staring curiously at her. “Why should I be? I trust you enough to know that you would do the right thing and as for her, I would love to scar her face” Lydia started warmly but in the last sentence, she gritted her teeth. Carson didn't talk further on the matter because he wouldn't want it to escalate into a huge fight between them. “Thanks for being an understanding fiancée,” Carson laughed and placed his hand on her left cheek. He pulled her closer to himself and kissed her cheek. Lydia's cheeks reddened and she smiled. “Do you want to watch a movie?” Lydia asked, but she went to the television before Carson could reply. She switched it on and held the remote. She went back to him and both of them decided to lie on the couch, Carson specifically laid behind her.She changed the channels till she found something good t

“Fighting isn't the right way to go about something like that, you should have reported it to a teacher because you seem like a bad person now,” Lydia said to Khloé. Khloé pouted her lips, not agreeing with her mother's words. “She deserved what she got. I couldn't bear the oppression anymore. She doesn't want to read but expects me to allow her to cheat. It's not fair” Khloé said, close to tears. She wasn't happy that her mother was scolding her over a situation that wasn't her fault at all. “Princess, life is unfair, but you have to learn how to make the right decisions. You shouldn't have taken matters to your end, everything would've been fine” Lydia muttered with a sigh. “I hit her and enjoyed every minute of it.” Khloé frowned and folded her arms on her chest, stubbornly. “That's the spirit girl!” Evelyn encouraged her, she was carrying Gary on her lap. “Evelyn, stop. Don't encourage such bad behavior. I know that the girl isn't a victim, but Khloé, resorting to violence

The kids weren't easy to control at all, Lydia realized how much they refused to listen to her. They listened more to Mrs. Isobel. This made Lydia a bit jealous and angry. She had to give Mrs. Isobel some hours off so that she could take care of the kids herself. “Both of you, sit down!” Lydia instructed and pointed at the couch. Gary and Khloé went to have a sit, seeing that their mother was more serious than ever. “It's not good to prove stubborn towards your parents, it causes sadness. Do you want Mommy to be sad?” Lydia pouted at her lips after speaking. They both shook their heads. “Alright, since you don't want me to be sad, then listen,” Lydia said. “It's truly depressing when I keep talking and you both keep disrespecting me by not listening!” “What are you supposed to do?” Lydia asked, looking angry, though she wasn't so angry. That news was so unexpected and shocking, she never expected to hear that the man who had ruined her life was out of prison, free to do the unimaginable. “How did he come out of prison? What exactly happened?” Evelyn asked, worried over the safety of Lydia. Carson shook his head. “I still don't know, but I'm going to that fucking prison to find out.” “How can he escape in just a week of being there? Many people have spent a decade trying to escape prison but haven't been able to, how can he make it seem so easy?” Evelyn asked questions that couldn't be answered by any of them. “The kids, we left the kids alone,” Lydia said agitated, and tried running out of the church. Carson held her back and pulled her into a hug. She was anxious, and her breathing had fastened like she was on the verge of having a panic attack. “There's nothing to be scared about, the children are secured, but George can be capricious. The next morning, Lydia woke up by Carson's side. She had a beautiful and joyful smile on her lips. Waking up by his side was the most amazing thing ever, and the scent of cologne was still on him. She brought her nose close to his chest and nuzzled him. Lydia grinned and raised her hand, she stared at the beautiful ring. “My name is Mrs. Lydia Walters' Lydia chuckled and kissed her ring. “It's so beautiful.” She was still staring at her ring when she suddenly had the urge to vomit, she touched her stomach as it churned. “Did I eat something wrong yesterday? Lydia pouted her lips. The nauseating feeling stopped for a while, but then the bile rushed up her throat and she couldn't keep it in. She rushed out of the bed and threw up into the sink. The sounds of vomiting woke Carson up. He wanted to sleep back but realized something was wrong with his wife. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. He asked her, worriedly. “Love, are you alright?” He still heard her throwing up and had to

Carson turned back with a little smile on his lips, his threats had worked. He wasn't planning on doing any of those things he said, but he decided to act as one of the bad guys. One can't stick to a technique and tactic all the time. Carson returned to his seat and called a prison warder inside to listen to what he had said. Carson also brought out his phone and decided to make a recording. “Can you repeat what you had said?” Carson requested. The man sighed and said everything that had transpired between him and Alma. Carson was delighted and left from there as the warder was taken away. He was going to face his penalty. Carson contacted the police to visit George's house where Alma stayed and also to arrest Felix in his house. Carson planned on also releasing the recording through his Father's connections. It would be anonymous and would ruin Felix's chances of becoming the governor. Carson was excited about his plans but would execute them after they were both arrested fo

George had killed a man, strangled him during the traffic, and taken his cab as a means of transportation. Presently, he walked to Mrs. Isobel's limp body and carried her into the back seat of the cab. He closed the door and entered the front seat. He wasn't ready to drive her anywhere in particular, he would make sure that he was far from a place where the cops could find him. He would question her in the car, but he had to wait till she awakened. He had planned to lie to Alma that he couldn't stand the boredom and had to leave the cabin. Anyway, she believed every lie he spoke.George drove for a long while before parking near a certain roadside, he waited till she awakened, which happened a few minutes after the drive. “Hm,” Mrs. Isobel moaned in pain. She felt a pounding pain in the back of her head, her hand reached for it and there was a little bloodstain. “Oh my God” She cried and slowly sat up, her blurry eyes cleared little by little. “Who are you?” Mrs. Isobel asked i

“Why are you smirking? Do you find the situation amusing or what?” Alma frowned at him. “I'm sorry, but I've thought about my decision, and I'm ready to accept your suggestion for plastic surgery,” George stuttered.Alma screamed excitedly and hugged him tightly.“That's the spirit, I'm so glad that you have thought more carefully about my proposal. I promise you that once you do this surgery and probably practice how to change other things about yourself. Everything would be great” Alma giggled. “The cops would be off your back and the both of us can travel the world after our wedding.” George rolled his eyes but faked a laugh. “I won't do the surgery now, give me some time to have my face then after a few days from now, I can do the surgery” George smiled and pushed her away from him. “I'm so happy” Alma clapped excitedly and tilted her head from side to side like a child. “I'm not too happy about losing my handsome face, but it's worth the change,” George said and acted like

“No, I'm not interested in altering my appearance” George disagreed firmly. “Why? It's a suitable option for you never to be found, why would you lose such a chance, just to stay locked up in this wretched cabin” Alma argued with him. “I'm not interested in continuing the conversation, I won't change my appearance to fort anything in this world. The best thing I love seeing when I look at my reflection in the mirror is my face and nothing more” George said and turned his face away from her. Alma gasped and was offended by his selfishness. “I want you to have a free life, we can fake your death that you were found and killed. It would make a lot of sense when I start dating the new you. Why are you acting so selfishly towards me?” Alma said, her voice cracking at the end of her statement. “I'm not being selfish but standing by my own rules. I get that you went the extra mile to bring me out of jail, but that doesn't give you the right to order me around” George frowned. Alma gasp
