ARIANA

Four years later…

The buzz of the city filtered through the glass walls of my office. On the table was a plaque on which my name was boldly inscribed.

Unapologetically mine.

My empire, fashion-forward and bold. It had risen like a phoenix, taking the other fashion houses in the city by surprise. Every event I attended, there were whispers of my name and achievements under a short time.

Those whispers fueled me, plus the words from Gerry, a chef in my ex-husband’s home. “Your accident was more than meets the eye, ma'am. Isabella had it planned.”

That devil. Plotted my accident and when she thought I was dead, got herself pregnant for Zayde and married him. By the time I'd be done with them, they'd be a sorry sight.

“Ms. Ariana,” my secretary's voice cut through my thoughts. She peeked her head in, her hands gripped a sleek tablet. “It's almost time for the stakeholders’ meeting. Oh, and there's a man in the conference room. Says he's a representative from an old friend.”

I nodded, already knowing who it was. “Got it. Let's not keep them waiting.”

Her heels clicked behind me as we headed down the hall. As we passed by a mirror, I took a brief look at it to see confidence radiate off me like heatwaves.

Of course, I turned heads as I passed. They always did. Why wouldn't they? The surgery was a huge success and although healing put me in so much pain, it was worth it in the end.

The man was already seated when I walked in. We exchanged quick pleasantries—handshakes and tight smiles. By the time the other investors arrived, the air in the room hummed with anticipation.

The meeting moved fast. All business talk about alliances and market domination. I kept my poker face on, speaking when needed and steering when necessary.

These men thought they ran the world. They didn't realize I'd been remaking it, one thread at a time. Minutes later, it was over. After a full minute of handshakes, nods and agreements, it was another win for Ariana Campbell.

The moment I stepped into the wide lounge, I was hit with a stench. Cheap perfume masking something foul.

Isabella.

She's perched on one of the chairs like a crow, dressed in an outfit so garish it screamed money can't buy taste. There's a gasp from her and a brief look of shock, then she tried to recover.

Too late. I'd noticed it already.

“You're surprised to see me,” I approached her, folding my arms as I stood in front of her.

She rose to her feet as well and her lips curl into a sneer. “Not surprised. Just amused.” She scanned me like a predator sizing up prey. “You’ve brush up well for someone who fell so far.”

I arhed a brow, refusing to rise to her bait.

“You know,” she continued in that venomous tone, “it's impressive, really. Most ex-wives of billionaires manage a quiet retirement, maybe a modest push to keep them relevant. But you…” she looked me over and released a cackle. “You're here, working nine-to-five in someone else's company in another state. How quaint.”

A smirk tugged at my lips. “It's cute that you think this isn't mine.”

Her face hardened. “What's that supposed to mean?”

“Figure it out,” I smirked and prepared to leave for the elevator.

Her nostrils glared but before she can retort, she tuned to my secretary. “I'm here for the stakeholders’ meeting.”

The words froze me in my steps. I glanced at my secretary, who fumbled over her response.

“The meeting?” I interjected, enjoying the way panic flashes across Isabella's face. “Oh, that ended. Punctuality isn't your strong suit.”

She stiffened, recovering with a derisive laugh. “And what kind of company finishes a meeting knowing I'm attending? Such arrogance for something so new. I should have a word with your CEO to teach her a thing or two about proper work ethics.”

My secretary's eyes darted to mine. I held her gaze and gave a subtle nod.

Clearing her throat, she said, “The CEO is…in another meeting. She'll attend to you shortly.”

Isabella huffed, flicking her hair over her shoulder. “Fine. But let her know I don't wait long.” She strutted to a seat and plopped down like she owned the place.

I turned to my secretary. “Elevator. Now.”

We stepped inside and as the doors closed, I spoke low. “Don't let her near my office. After two hours, tell her the meeting's cancelled.”

“Yes, Ms. Campbell.”

The elevator dinged open and I strode back to my sanctuary. Isabella's audacity burned fresh in my mind.

‘Your feathers might be bright now, Isabella,’ I thought to myself as we rode up, “but I'll pluck them one by one until you're nothing but bare bones.’

Zayde“What on earth do you want from me? My life?” I screamed within me as I stared at my phone. The loud and continuous buzz of my phone’s notifications got on my nerves as I went through the mountain of files cluttered around my desk. It was freaking me out and pissing me off. The worst part? The numbers of files to go through was very demotivating even though I was staring at the profit numbers that my company has made in the past two weeks. It was all supposed to be fulfilling but instead, I didn't feel that way. I felt a deep hollow in my heart that could not get filled up. Something was definitely wrong with me but, what could that be? I leaned back in my chair, staring outside my office window. All I could see in front of me was a city out before me. A city that was nothing but a jungle that bustled with life and numerous life changing opportunities. It might amaze you that so many people's destinies were tied up there. As I stared out, with countless thoughts running

His gaze burned into my back, dragging me into the past I had sworn to leave behind. My fingers curled around my handbag and I didn’t need to turn around to know it was him.Zayde Kincaid.Four years, and yet one could still know if he was within a vicinity. I had long anticipated this event but now, it felt like the world had become so suffocating because of his presence here. A waiter passed, offering a tray of an expensive drink. I ignored it and set my glass on the nearest table instead. If he wanted a confrontation, he would have to work for it.I took a step

Zayde’s POVI still haven't recovered from the disgrace and the humiliation that Arian put me through and at that gala, I got a lot of stares and whispers from people that made me call my driver to take me out there immediately. You know what? The past has a way of gripping you by the throat when you least expect it and this time, the shocking return of Ariana did that. I had spent four years forgetting about Ariana, forcing Ariana into the furthest corners of my mind, convincing myself she was nothing but a scar. Something that I healed from but never forgotten. I had sworn to myself that she wouldn't make my heart flutter. Not even for the last time but yet, here I was, drowning in the thoughts of her, unable to silence her voice in my head. Her accident. Her disappearance and above all, her shocking return. If I didn't see her physically, I could swear that it might be a doppelganger who looked exactly like her. But, it wasn't. I touched her. I held her hand even when she did

Ariana’s POVThe moment I stepped into the charity auction, I felt the shift in the air. Eyes followed me as I walked down and everyone had mixed expressions on their faces. Some were curious, others were anxious while a few others looked envious of me. People really whispered behind their champagne glasses, wondering if I was truly back for business or for something else and I smiled at myself because of the effect I had on them. Let them wonder. If that alone will make them sane, then let them do it. I walked past the decorated marble columns and my heels clicked against the polished floor.I had dressed for war tonight and my outfit was able to make heads turn. Ariana's POV I was just getting started. The same way they were shocked about my return, that was how my next move was going to throw them off balance. The plan is simple. Get Isabella and break her against her will. Then, I will fold my hands and watch her carefully constructed empire fall apart. It sounded so easy as I thought of it but nothing about this felt simple to execute. Despite the revenge I was planning against these folks, the memories of Zayde and everything we had kept haunting me like a ghost when I least expected it. I knew I had been acting tough and that I hated him. Yes, I do hate him. It’s been four years, and yet, every time I thought of him, my heart ached in places I didn’t even know could hurt. I needed to push those thoughts aside. It's already over. Zayde is no longer my concern. Isabella is. And I can’t afford to get distracted now. I took a look at Gabriel’s office, where the walls are covered with so much technology that could help me des

ZaydeI have never been the one to beg. I don’t chase women even if I like them to death. I don’t plead with them even when I make mistakes. I don't do anything that will hurt my ego as a man. But with Ariana, I find myself breaking my own rules. For the past few days, I have been meaning to talk to her. I wanted to talk to her in a fancy restaurant, over a cup of hot tea. But, she seemed not to be interested even when I made it clear that it was not my intention to go on a date with her. She was getting a wrong impression of me and I could not change that with how desperate I have become. To make things worse for me, I sent her expensive flowers and to my greatest surprise, she sent them back to me. I had so many flowers in my office now that I had no idea what to do with them. Zayde’s POV I never liked waiting even for the slightest thing and Patience had never been something I knew how to do best, especially when it came to business. I didn’t wait for things to fall apart, I made sure they never did. But as I sat in my office, scanning the latest reports. I could not ignore the Isabella’s company unravelling disaster. Another client gone. Another contract terminated. Another headline questioning the integrity of her brand. I exhaled sharply, tossing the papers onto my desk. "What the hell is going on, Isabella? What exactly went wrong? Have you seen the latest report about your company?” I asked, a little but concerned because whatever was happening in her company slightly rubbed on me too because I was her husband. Isabella stood across from me, looking so sad with her arms crossed. I had been closely monitoring the progress of her company and this time, I wondered what excuse she was going to give concerning this massive failure. "Arian

Ariana’s POV I had no idea how I got into this small dark room but I knew that Gabriel was also with me in here "You really thought you could outsmart me, didn’t you?" He asked and he sounded so dangerous. His voice made my skin crawl and I struggled against the ropes tied around my wrists. The ropes were too tight and I wish I could get them out by pushing too hard. My heart pounded as I scanned the room. There were no windows. There was also no easy way out. It was just me and him. "I swear to God, Gabriel, if you don’t untie me right now…" I blurted out. My eyes were almost falling out of my socket as I tried hard to push my body against the wall. "You will what? Tell me, what the hell are you going to do?” He asked with a smirk on his face. I wished he was as tense as I was but no, he looked too calm and was at ease, like he hadn’t just kidnapped me and shoved me into some dark, empty office space. "You’re insane. Ariana’s POV"You have no choice, Ariana. You either come back to me, or your mother pays the price."Gabriel’s words still kept echoing in my head like a death sentence and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I knew that he was not joking after he said such a thing to me.I had now convinced myself that Gabriel was a psycho who wasn't capable of loving. My hands trembled as I gripped my phone, rereading the message over and over. The evidence he claimed to have, the threat he had so casually thrown at me was all real and I could feel it.He couldn't possibly be joking about something like this. I stood in my apartment, resting my head on the wall. My mother had her faults, but she didn’t deserve to have her name dragged through the mud. And the child... my child. His damn child too…no, no. Gabriel was heartless. I pressed a hand against my stomach, and my tongue tasted so bitter. How had I let it come to this? How had I become so trapped here?I couldn’t go to Zayde. No, I ca

Gabriel’s POVI was guilty as charged. I was not just a man who was in love. I was a stalker and I made sure I monitored wherever Zayde and Ariana where going. It had become a daily routine for me. I had not seen myself taking my eyes off my phone. After the last encounter with the both of them, I was very humiliated. Zayde punched me so hard and I couldn't fight back. When I got home, I slapped myself countless times for allowing myself to get beaten up by Zayde in front of Ariana. Why couldn't I fight or defend myself? I thought I had taken taekwondo classes the other year. Yet, he keeps beating me anytime we fight. I think I might have forgotten why wee were rivals. Zayde seemed to be ahead of me in most areas and I didn't want that. You think you have won, Zayde? You have no idea what is coming. I'm preparing something that will come to you as a shocker. I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth, rolling my jaw. The bastard got a good hit in, I had give him that. But

Zayde’s POVI knew I had to try one more time. You can't blame me for trying to get Ariana back to me. The truth is, I love her and I was going to do anything to get her back if only she let me. I had called Ariana out and was pleased to see because I had a lot of things to tell her. We were in a dark park with few people around. She stood in front of me, standing akimbo like she was shielding herself from me, from this moment.“I don't think we can keep doing this Zayde. We have to cut ties and stop seeing each other,” she informed me and she pressed her lips together.“That might not work quite well. If you want that, I need you to look me in the eyes and say it,” I said, almost pleading with her. She lifted her head and for a second, I saw everything that was hidden in her. The love, the pain and the confusion. But then she blinked, and it was all gone.Ariana once loved me. I didn't want it to be so. I want her to love. “Zayde, this isn’t fair,” she said to me and I couldn

Isabella pov“Are these people joking?” I asked myself after letting out a thunderous laughter. I leaned back in my chair, watching the chaos unfold on my screen. The video of Zayde and Gabriel’s fight had spread like wildfire. Social media was on fire with their clips, memes, and heated debates about who was in the wrong. Some defended Zayde, calling him a hero. Others insulted him, painting him as a violent and possessive monster who didn't Wang But one thing was clear. He had already shattered his reputation. It was clear that I had been the one saving his reputation all these while. “Very good. I hope he learns something new about this. He would know that the only way he could keep up with the public is when he was with me.”A slow smile crept onto my lips as I scrolled through the comments. I loved everything I was looking out because this was another type of revenge that I was getting. Now, everything was working in my favour. “Zayde totally lost control. Can’t believe

Ariana’s POVCall me stupid for all I care but, I didn't know when I called Zayde to come and save me from Gabriel's cruel hands. I was beginning to regret everything that I did simply because he was acting so caring. I made a mistake. I shouldn't have called him. Myself and Zayde had hurt each other for a long time, yet he still came to help me when I needed him. My conscience won't let me take it all in so I had a quick switch that threw him off balance. "You should have let me handle it!" I yelled at him, pushing him off my body. My voice was raw, shaking, but I didn’t care. I shoved Zayde’s chest, hard but he barely moved and his dark eyes couldn't leave my body. “What do you mean? You called me on the phone and you kept crying because you couldn't handle it and you are in danger. Why are you now suddenly saying this?” He asked and he wiped the blood off his knuckles. His breathing kept coming in heavy but I had already made up my mind not to allow him close to me. He sud

Zayde’s POV"Zayde... please. Help me. Please.”I was enjoying my peace when Ariana’s voice shook through the phone. I had not expected her to call since we were both not on good terms but from her voice, I could tell that she was in trouble and I needed to be there to help her. I know fear when it comes to me. I had seen it in others. I had felt it in myself more times than I cared to admit. But hearing it in her voice? That was different. That was a kind of fear that set my blood on fire."Ariana? What happened? Talk to me now! I swear, I'm listening to you and I'm going to come and save you," I said to her and my grip tightened around my phone. My body was already moving and I grabbed my car keys. "I…it's…Gabriel…"she tried to speak but her breath wasn't letting her to. I heard a sharp sound in the background, something crashing into something and then her voice dropped to a whisper. "Please, just come. Now.”I didn’t need to hear more. Ariana’s POV“I never thought it would come to this. I thought I had everything under control,” that was what boomed in my head, distracting me from everything. I kept staring at the anonymous message on my phone screen. It was strange to look at and the more I looked at it, the more fear settled within me. Now, I had believed that everything I had now was crumbling around me. The message had come out of nowhere, and there was no way to trace the source. But it hit me so hard in the right place. "Gabriel isn’t who you think he is. His love for you is all part of a game. He doesn’t even care about you the way you think he does. He’s just using you like he always uses everyone else. Ask yourself why you are with him when you know how he really is.”I read it over and over, hoping for some kind of sense to emerge, something that would convince me to dismiss it as a lie.But the more I thought about it, the more I couldn’t ignore the nagging feeling in my gut that something was not ri

  • Second Chance: The Return Of Ariana   Chapter 68

Isabella’s POVI was able to make sure that Zayde was still very much afraid of me and it was. It was quite easy. Everything’s going exactly as planned.I leaned back against the chair, the cold surface of the phone in my hand, feeling a wicked satisfaction wash over me. The video I wanted to use was out now. I had sent it to the media, knowing exactly how it would spread like wildfire, destroying Zayde’s reputation further. I didn't give a damn about anything whatsoever. I was going to take him down. That was what mattered to me. He thought he could escape the consequences, but no one ever escapes me.Not Zayde, not Gabriel, and certainly not Ariana. The video had been recorded months ago, when Zayde and I were... well, less than friendly. The moment I saw it, I knew it had the potential to bring him down completely so I had already kept it with me ever since. Zayde had always been careful about his image, always playing the role of the untouchable, perfect CEO. But that was
