Ethan looked at me, annoyed. "I've told you a thousand times—Bella and I are just friends now. Why can't you get that? You're being heartless to her, and now you're pushing for a divorce?"

My chest felt empty, but my voice cut through. "This marriage is over. I'm done."

I spun on my heel and headed for the door. He tried to follow, but Bella clung to his arm, voice weak. "Ethan... my neck hurts so bad. I can barely breathe."

"I'll get you to a doctor." Without a second thought, he scooped her up.

I bolted out of the hospital barefoot, rain pounding down, just desperate to get away—anywhere he wasn't.
