Double Crossing

The ring of a bell washes through the cafe as another patron opens the door.

Narrow eyes appraise the person who steps into the cafe before dismissing him when she sees it's not her target. The woman groans before lifting her wrist.

Opal checks her watch while surreptitiously sipping her cup of espresso.

She scrunches her nose, her tongue curdling due to the bitter taste of the drink.

'He's late.' she thinks, annoyance buzzing through her.

The man could have at least stuck to the time. It was already twenty-seven minutes past ten and she hasn't seen the hide or hair of the irritating man.

The door rings again and as if summoned by her thoughts the man in question is standing there.

Mark looks deceptively Charming in his charcoal blazer and snug sweater. He doesn't look like a man who has constant blood on his hands.

The man scans the establishment with his eyes, those dark orbs pausing when they spot opal.

The woman straightens on instinct, refusing to be intimidated by Mark. He nods
