Upon reaching her room, Kimberly immediately slammed her bag on the floor. She grabbed her phone and called her father. Her face looked tense, with her breathing fast and erratic. She was no longer hiding her feelings at this moment. She only pretended to be calm in front of Deborah, although she felt like scratching the girl's face.
"Why is that woman's child in this house, Dad?" As soon as her father answered the call, Kimberly protested. Michael, her father, should know that Kimberly never liked Deborah.
"Oh, come on, Kim. You're not kids anymore. You're adults now. Forget about the past and learn to get along with each other." Michael sounded desperate. In his old age, he just wanted his daughters to gather and forget the past.
Kimberly dropped her jaw upon hearing her father's words. How could she forget the past that led to her mother's death?
She shook her head in disappointment, even though Michael couldn't see her. "I can't forget how that woman destroyed our family and caused Mom's death," she said with hatred. Because of that, her relationship with her father had never been good until now.
"I'm sorry about that. I feel so guilty for your mother's death. But haven't I redeemed myself by never bringing them to our house? I never forced you to like them all this time. But I'm old now; I want our family to come together." There was a sense of guilt haunting Michael ever since his first wife's death. Kimberly was only 10 years old when he was caught cheating with his secretary named Liana. They even had a daughter who was 2 years younger than Kimberly.
Georgina, his wife, immediately fainted upon learning the truth. She was hospitalised for a few days, and on the third day, she passed away.
Kimberly was devastated and continued to blame Michael for her mother's death. She also never acknowledged the presence of Liana and her daughter. Michael understood and never invited them to live with them. However, they had to meet a few times when attending an event. But lately, Kimberly chose not to join to avoid them.
Taking a deep breath, Kimberly tried to control her emotions. "I don't want to! I want her to leave this house!" Kimberly stood her ground. However, they would never be siblings, even though her father had married her mother and she had the same last name as hers.
"Kimberly!" A yell came from the other end of the phone that shocked Kimberly. "I've had enough patience with your childish behavior. You can hate her, but she's still my daughter, your sister! They will continue to live in that house, whether you agree or not!"
After saying that, Michael hung up the phone. Kimberly, still shocked, could only stay silent. Her phone was still stuck to her ear. She never expected her father to be so harsh on her. After all, that house was built by Michael for Georgina. Why would he allow that murderer to stay there now?
Kimberly felt like running away. However, remembering the many memories in that house with her mother, she couldn't possibly leave. Moreover, this house was a gift from her father to her mother. She would never allow those two women to take control of the house.
After calming herself for a few moments, Kimberly grabbed her car keys and left her room again. Under the stairs, she encountered Deborah again. This time, it wasn't just Deborah; Liana was there too. Liana tried to smile at Kimberly, but the woman ignored her, as if she couldn't be bothered. Kimberly kept walking, pretending the two women didn't exist.
"Kimberly! Will our relationship always be like this? Didn't we have a good relationship in the past?" Liana shouted, desperate with Kimberly's constant disregard. "I also want to be your mother!"
She and Kimberly used to get along so well that Kimberly even played with Deborah and considered her her little sister. But that was before she knew that Liana had been having an affair with her father and Deborah was the daughter of their affair. Everything was different after the truth came out and that's when her mom left for good.
Kimberly wanted to continue ignoring Liana, but her last sentence made Kimberly furious. She turned and walked arrogantly towards Liana.
"A mother? You want to be my mother?" Kimberly gave Liana a mocking smile to belittle her. "Don't even think about it! Trash will always be trash, and don't ever expect me to pick it up."
Hearing Kimberly's words about her mother, Deborah clenched her fists. She roughly grabbed Kimberly's shoulder, forcing the girl to face her.
"Don't you dare act like that towards my mom! Regardless, she's married to Daddy. You have no right to treat her like that!" Deborah shouted, her eyes glaring. But it didn't scare Kimberly. She even stepped forward, as if challenging the girl in front of her. Deborah was the one slowly stepping back in fear.
"You're just like your mother. Both of you are trash that will never be noble, even if you're placed in a palace." Kimberly's eyes were filled with hatred and capable of making Deborah fearful. Even her body trembled when faced with her stepsister's intimidating gaze.
Seeing Deborah's expression this time, Kimberly felt very satisfied. She then turned around, leaving the two women she despised behind. But as she passed Liana, she deliberately gave a mocking smile to the woman.
As Kimberly's car was heard leaving the driveway, Deborah screamed loudly. She went into a rage to vent her pent-up anger. Despite her efforts, she remained afraid when near Kimberly. The girl truly had a terrifying aura.
Once outside the gate, Kimberly screamed as loudly as she could. Fortunately, her car was soundproof, so no one could hear her screams. She pounded the steering wheel repeatedly to release her anger.
In a situation like this, there was only one person she wanted to contact, Nicholas.
"What's up, Kim? Did your date not go well that you're calling me tonight?" Nicholas chuckled from the other end of the phone. He didn't know what had happened to Kimberly, so he joked as usual. However, when Kimberly remained silent and didn't respond to his jokes, Nicholas realised that Kimberly was not okay.
"Um... did your date really go wrong, Kim?" Nicholas asked hesitantly.
Kimberly took a deep breath, as if holding something inside her that was about to explode.
"No! It's not like that!" Kimberly still tried to control herself. Her breath sounded heavy, and Nicholas could hear it from the other end. "I'll wait for you at the club."
Kimberly couldn't say anything and finally hung up the phone. She threw her phone behind her because she didn't want to be disturbed, not even by Harry. Nicholas would definitely find her even if he couldn't reach her. For some reason, Kimberly felt safer with Nicholas than with Harry. At least if she got drunk, Nicholas wouldn't take advantage of her because he wasn't interested in her.
Kimberly changed into a white crop top and a short black skirt before stepping out of her car. This was the nightclub she often visited with Nicholas since their college days. Many say that men and women can't be friends without involving feelings, but in reality, they can. That's because Kimberly knew that Nicholas's preference wasn't women. So even when she got drunk, she felt safe in Nicholas's hands.Passing the bouncers, Kimberly could enter immediately because they were familiar with her.The loud music echoed in her ears. Unconsciously, Kimberly moved her body, enjoying the music played by the DJ. The smell of alcohol grew stronger over time. But it didn't bother Kim at all. It seemed to pump her up even more.At the end of the hallway, she paused to look down at the dance floor below. Hundreds of people gathered, dancing as one. There were no boundaries between men and women. They blended into one, accompanied by the music that grew more spirited as the night progressed. She s
“Kim, you're safe now. The man has left.” Nicholas's gaze followed until the man's back disappeared from his sight.“Really?” Kimberly scanned around, relieved not to see the man anywhere. “Thank you for coming just in time.”“Can you stop doing this, Kim? Don't tempt them with your revealing outfit like this,” Nicholas scolded angrily, realising Kimberly's attire was very provocative and would certainly attract unsavoury attention.Kimberly rolled her eyes lazily as Nicholas started commenting on her appearance. “There's nothing wrong with my outfit, Nick. It's their dirty minds.” Kimberly turned and strode towards the bar.“But, Kim—”“But what, Nick?” Kimberly turned and locked eyes with Nicholas mid-stride. She walked with a sway in her step towards Nicholas. “How do you know what goes on in their minds when you don't know how they feel seeing a woman's body?” Kimberly pushed out her chest, as if trying to tease Nicholas, knowing it would be in vain. Nicholas was gay and wouldn't
Nicholas couldn't focus on driving because everything Kimberly did was distracting him. She even started to lean in and try to kiss him. Feeling angry and frustrated, Nicholas pulled over and stopped the car. He then reached for a rope he had placed in the back seat the day before."Come on, Nick. I want to have some fun. Aren't you attracted to this body of mine?" Kimberly laughed."Shut up, Kim!" Nicholas snapped as he tied Kimberly's hands behind the seat. He swallowed hard when his eyes accidentally landed on her chest. It was so round and full, showing that it had never been touched by any man.Kimberly was wild. She loved going to nightclubs and getting drunk. However, Nicholas knew that she was still a virgin. Kimberly had even told him that no man had ever kissed her. Although she had had many boyfriends, none had managed to steal her first kiss. After tying Kimberly's hands, Nicholas pulled her towards him. Just as his face was in front of hers, he froze. Until it was time to go home, Kimberly still couldn't meet Nicholas. Even the messages she had sent since earlier had gone unanswered. Kimberly also asked Clara about Nicholas's whereabouts, but the woman insisted that he was out of town. After tidying up her desk, Kimberly visited Nicholas's office once more before finally giving up. It seemed like something she had done the night before had made him avoid her. Kimberly realized that she had been too much, so she tried to apologize. In fact, all the messages she sent were full of apologies.Because Kimberly had other things to take care of, she left the office after failing to meet Nicholas. Taking a taxi, Kimberly returned to the club she had visited the night before. She wanted to find out who had dared to mess with her. After failing to find Harry anywhere, Kimberly decided to go home. Perhaps she had been mistaken, because when she called Harry, he said he was still at the office. Kimberly also didn't hear any noise like she had at the nightclub. She actually didn't want to go home, but if she didn't, Liana and Deborah would feel like they had won. She wouldn't let that happen. After all, this was her house. Kimberly wouldn't let anyone take it from her.Kimberly entered her house and continued walking towards the stairs leading to her room. She didn't care that there were two people sitting in the living room. As far as she was concerned, she was the only one in this house."Kimberly!" Michael's shout sounded ordinary to Kimberly. She even continued walking without paying any attention to her father. "Kimberly Spencer!"Kimberly took a deep breath as she stopped walking. Although she didn't want to consider Michael as her father, she couldn't erase the blood ties between them. So, she stopped, espe
Days went by so quickly and Nicholas still hadn't appeared before Kimberly. Even the message from a few days ago hadn't been read. However, Kimberly was a little forgetful because she had a lot of work. There were some new products that made the marketing team work overtime. They had to think about how to innovate in sales.Kimberly sighed deeply. She had not left her room since morning, and she had not even had lunch. Usually, Nicholas would bring her food when she was busy.Kimberly put down her glasses. She rubbed the bridge of her nose because it felt very stiff. Her phone rang and she turned her gaze. Harry's name was displayed as the caller. Although she was a little lazy, Kimberly still answered the man's call. Kimberly had been ignoring Harry for quite some time. Maybe this was the time to mend their relationship.“Hi, Kim. Finally, you answered my call.” Kimberly had opened her lips, intending to greet him, but Harry spoke first. Kimberly understood because Harry might be having problems with his work."Why has it been so quiet lately?" Kimberly, who was going down the stairs, stopped in her tracks. She looked around as if she was searching for something. Kimberly closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "The air is really fresh. I haven't smelt that foul odour for a few days. No wonder I feel so good."Kimberly opened her eyes. Her mouth broke into a wide smile. She realised that Deborah had not been within her reach for a few days. Kimberly turned around, ignoring Nicholas calling her name. She didn't know how to explain her feelings at the moment. She was devastated and disappointed when she saw Nicholas's intimacy with the man. She had seen the man who was with Nicholas before. He was the man rumoured to be Nicholas's lover. He had come to this office a few months ago.Kimberly had never met the man personally, and Nicholas had never introduced him to her.Kimberly took a deep breath as she entered the elevator. She stepped back until her back was against the side of the elevator. Her hands clenched her chest, which felt so painful. Kimberly knew this would happen, but she wasn't ready.Kimberly's eyes felt hot as clear tears forced their way out of the corners of her eyes. This time, she could no longer hold back the tears that had been dammed up in her eyelids. But she quickly wiped away her tears when the elevator door opened. She got out and went straight to her room. After grabbing her bag, Kimberly went
Kimberly, who had just stepped out of the elevator, stopped. Her eyes narrowed and her forehead furrowed as she saw someone walking towards her. She let out a harsh breath and immediately put on a cold face. She folded both hands in front of her, as if preparing to block the person."What are you doing here?" Kimberly asked in a firm tone. Her face showed an expression of dislike. She looked the person up and down and scoffed. "Who are you trying to seduce with that outfit? You're a real bitch!"Deborah suddenly appeared at the office where Kimberly worked, wearing very sexy clothes. A broken white crop top and a very short leather skirt. It was probably only as high as her bottom. Not to mention her black thigh-high boots that made Deborah look like she was going to a nightclub.Deborah rolled her eyes lazily when she passed Kimberly. She stopped and glared at Kimberly just to say, "None of your business!" After that, Deborah walked away from Kimberly.Kimberly snorted in annoyance b
Since that day, Kimberly had been trying to get closer to Harry. She even continued to ignore Nicholas, even though the man tried to act like before. Kimberly only spoke to Nicholas to maintain professionalism.“Kim. Why didn’t you answer my calls?” Nicholas walked with long strides, intending to catch up with Kimberly, who was already far ahead of him. It was quitting time, and they were heading towards the elevator. Kimberly looked confused when suddenly Nicholas was behind her. Their rooms were on different floors, but why was Nicholas on her floor?“I was busy, so I didn’t have time to read your message.” Kimberly replied without stopping. She didn’t even turn to look at Nicholas. She had been acting like this to him several times.Nicholas, who did not get a good response from Kimberly, stopped. He was silent while his eyes continued to stare at the girl’s back. This was the umpteenth time he had tried to mend his friendship with Kimberly, but now she was the one who kept her dis
Kimberly took a deep breath. Once again, she woke up in Nicholas's apartment. Even though she had just opened her eyes, she already knew where she was. Nicholas's room was so familiar to her that she could recognise it at a glance.Again and again, Kimberly always ended up in this apartment when she was drunk. It made her realise that she had been too dependent on Nicholas all this time. She always troubled him with her personal matters."I guess I’m too much of a burden," Kimberly muttered with a small laugh. "Maybe it’s time for me to keep my distance from Nicholas. We both have partners." Kimberly stared at the ceiling, her memories swirling back.Looking back, Nicholas knew almost everything about her, but Kimberly didn’t know anything about Nicholas. She had never even met her best friend’s family, even though Nicholas was very close to her father."Am I a bad friend?" she asked herself. Whenever there was a problem, she would seek Nicholas to listen to her stories. Yet Kimberly
