Her Kidneys

Lillian’s POV

Darting my gaze at my tossed wheelchair, frustration surged through me. Crawling over to it would be an incredible struggle.

Feeling defeated, I lowered my face to the floor, tears spilling onto it. As more tears rolled on the spot she slapped, my skin burned in irritation. I had always had delicate skin, and tears weren't good for me.

But strangely, that wasn't the only spot I felt pain. When I was pushed to the floor by my husband's devilish mistress, one of the knitting pins pierced me.

I felt the prick of the needle. I had never felt anything in my legs  since the accident. I didn't understand why this happened now, but there was a flicker of hope in my heart.

I might walk again. Maybe I was being delusional but I wanted to hold onto the last hope that I could walk again. Maybe, Dustin would love me again.

"Lilian!"

I lifted my head, and my gaze met with his cold, dark eyes. Those were the eyes I once adored, but they were just hollow orbs to me.

"Dustin, why exactly are you doing this? I know that my condition has limited some things in our lives, but this is too much," I cried out. "You're treating me like you've never loved me,"

"Even if you didn't love me, your actions are too heartless. You're treating me like the accident is my fault, or I relish losing a part of my body," I said, sobbing in between. "Dustin, this is so unfair..."

"Just stop playing the victim, and sign the papers already..." Dustin uttered coldly, disdain evident in his voice.

I parted my lips to tell him that there was a chance that I might walk again, and not be a burden to him, but then his phone rang, interrupting me.

He answered the call and stepped aside for a few moments.

His mistress and I exchanged glares. She had ruined my marriage, and my life as well. I might no longer have a roof over my head because of her.

"What are you staring at? Should I come there and smack your disgusting face again!" She sneered, giving me the stink eye while balanced on the couch.

I should be the one disgusted by her existence.

"You're the disgusting one here. You're the one that took away my husband from me. You know very well that you don't belong here, you fucking whore!" I insulted, my voice shaky but filled with rage.

I wasn't one to curse, but I had to defend myself against a vile person like her.

"What did you just—" Her words were cut off by Dustin's return.

“You don’t have to stress yourself over her, my love.” He rushed to her and held her hand. “The doctor just called and he has finally cleared his schedule for you.”

He then turned to me with a smirk, “She just needs to sign the divorce papers and she will be shipped away," He revealed, tucking his phone into his pocket.

"Shipped away?" I gasped, my eyes wide in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

He ignored me, and said to his mistress, "You need to rest, my love. Let's head upstairs."

He held her waist with such gentleness, as if holding her any tighter would break her.

They turned to go, leaving my question unanswered.

"Dustin! Dustin, you need to answer me!" I called, but he ignored me.

I had to get my questions answered somehow, so I began glancing around for something that would get their attention. I spotted the television remote on the center table and decided to reach for it.

As best I could, I crawled to the center table and grabbed the remote. Raising myself slightly, I targeted his mistress and threw the remote hard at her head.

"Ah!" She whimpered, lowering her hand to touch the back of her head. "It hurts..."

She turned to look at me, and I couldn't stop a satisfied smirk from appearing on my lips. That was payback for smacking me in the face.

"How dare you!" She rushed to me and grabbed my arm. Her face looked gaunt, pale and scary.

Her hand quickly moved to clench my chin, and she spat, "If it wasn't for those stupid kidneys in you, do you think you would be here? He wouldn't have married you at all!"

Kidneys?

"What are you..." I trailed off, my eyes dilating in fear.

She released my chin and laughed at my confusion.

"Dustin, what is she talking about?" I asked, hoping that it wasn't what I was thinking.

He sighed, and then shrugged his shoulders, nonchalantly, “Since we're done with this sham of a marriage then there's nothing to hide anymore," He said with a nonchalant tone. "Your kidney is a perfect match for my future wife. I only married you because your father, who was a match died right after the surgical operation,"

Painful tears stung my eyes terribly, my heart almost stopped. It felt like my whole life had crumbled right in front of me.

"You monster!!!" I screamed as realization dawned on me. My father had died mysteriously and Dustin was responsible. Tears gushed out of my eyes like a flood. "How could you kill my father?"

"Oh shut up. He did it for money but then died like the poor fool he was. Anyways, we were trying to see if his kidney would last long, so I married you as an option so you wouldn't get away, if Maureen ever needed another transplant," He revealed with an emotionless expression.

My jaw dropped in shock.  I recalled when I had been seriously ill toward the period of my father's death. While I was in the hospital, Dustin came to me, offering to help with the bills. I was so happy that such a generous billionaire was helping me.

Shortly after, I learned that my father had died. Dustin comforted me through everything. I fell in love with him, not knowing that he was my father's murderer.

"You knew that my father was too old for a transplant, but you were too selfish to help him. You led him to his death!" I burst into louder tears, my heart wrenching.

I didn't care if both of them were watching me. I couldn't stop yelling out the pain in my heart. My poor father died alone and miserable. He died because of me.

"Daddy, I'm sorry..." I cried bitterly.

I wished I could beg for his forgiveness. I had married, loved, and cherished the man who separated us.

"Dustin," I heard his Mistress' faint voice. "I don't feel well,"

I slowly lifted my hateful gaze to her and watched as he rushed to hold her. She looked so pale and could barely remain on her feet.

"Maureen," Dustin panicked, his eyes filled with fear.

"I need to go to the hospital. I am getting too sick...I don't want to die," She panted, her voice shaky.

"I won't let you die. The transplant is going to happen soon," He said, and my teary eyes widened.

"No, no way!" I protested, trying to crawl away from them.

I watched him pull out his phone and dial a number.

"You can start coming, I want the preparations for the transplant to start immediately!" He yelled into the phone, desperation laced in his voice.

As he hung up, he looked at her and said menacingly, "Her kidney will be yours, my love."
