The drive to the Italian restaurant was quite enjoyable. His cologne was intoxicating and swirling around me. The smell of his cologne was all over the car making it hard to think. As his scent filled the air I couldn't help but inhale deeply. The deep breaths were bringing back memories. The cologne he was wearing was one of my favorites but if I were being honest I’d never actually smelled it on anyone before. The first time I had smelled that cologne I was at Macy’s shopping for Bryce. At that time I had no clue what to get him as he had more than enough money to buy himself whatever he wanted.

That year I opted for cologne as it was easy enough and it was something he could return if needed. Of course I should have known nothing would ever be that easy when it came to Bryce. When he opened the gift he made a snide remark about the cologne and decided to give it to one of his buddies on the team. When I found out he had gifted my gift to someone else it hurt my feelings. We were sitting in a small room in the back of a quiet family owned Italian resturant. I was surprised to see the owner of the resturant talk to Jayce as if he had known him for quite some time. There was hardly anyone in the place but the atmosphere was pleasant and quaint. "I know it's a small place but they have some of the greatest food and I wanted a place where we could have some private quiet time," he said as I stared at his blue-green eyes. I smiled and knew that given his popularity and who he was, finding some place quiet would be difficult but it appeared as if he had gotten exactly what he wanted. "It's perfect," I told him as I smiled and looked down at the menu. We sat in silence for a moment then he cleared his throat and wanted to reassure me that he chose this place for privacy. He was quite specific in wanting to make sure we would not be interrupted and as he spoke I realized how difficult his life must be. People were always approaching him no matter where he was

I was surprised to learn that he had a younger sister and that his parents were still happily married and living in Florida. He proceeded to tell me that his sister recently got married and moved to Seattle. The way he talked about his family showed that he truly cared about them especially his sister. “You must really miss them?” He looked up at me but you could tell he wasn’t really looking at me. It was as if he was thinking about something from the past or remembering his family. “I do miss them. I try to visit them as often as I can but with my job it’s kind of difficult.” I nodded understanding what he meant. I continued asking him questions about his sister and parents and was surprised to learn more about him as a person. In watching him talk about his family I discovered a lot about his character and who he really was. He was more than a famous football player. He believed that his family saw him as just a son and brother and that was all he needed to be happy. I slowly reali

There was a part of me, the wounded and broken part of me that warned me to stay away from him but I couldn't let go. I wanted him with me, I wanted this moment, this kiss and everything it was giving me. Despite the war going on between my head and my heart a part of me sensed that he would never hurt me but I believed the same thing about Bryce. His kisses were getting deeper and more intense and my body was clearing giving him the signals that it wanted more. I hardly knew him and what he offered me right now was raw passion laced with lust. I continued kissing him knowing that I was in far more trouble than I could handle. I had only seen him twice and already I was willing to do whatever he asked of me. I felt like I was losing control with him and as the images of Bryce came flooding back to the surface I pushed him away.“Please stop.” I gushed with a ragged breath. He looked startled and confused then quickly apologized. “I’m sorry. I thought you wanted me to kiss you?” I loo

POV: JayceOne month later in October...“Jayce, what the hell is taking you so long? What are you thinking about man?” I put down the set of weights and turned to look at Tuck. “Sorry Tuck, I had a rough night. I tossed and turned all night.” Tuck sat beside me on the bench. “Please tell me you at least got laid before going home?” I got up from the bench and picked up another set of weights, “Nope, sorry to disappoint you man.” He shook his head in disapproval. There was no point explaining to him why I wasn’t sleeping because he wouldn’t understand. Ever since that day a month ago all I could do was think about her. She’s the reason I’d been losing sleep.I wondered what she was doing and how life was going for her since we last spoke. My parting words to her were cruel and insensitive. I could see the hurt in her eyes, yet in that moment I didn’t care. I knew it was unfair of me to ask her to trust me but it’s something I’ve struggled with myself. If I were truly being honest I’d

After completing my notes for the patient I had just seen I asked Marcy about the patient David was seeing. I viewed her electronic record and made my way to the room knowing that I was called in to provide the patient with a nutritional consult for a stomach stapling procedure. I had mixed feelings about these types of procedures and while having the surgery had its benefits, I also knew that some of them were not truly necessary all of the time. I knocked on the door and walked into the room. David was sitting next to the family explaining the procedure and discussing the risk factors. He glanced up from his paperwork as I entered and simply smiled. Once he finished his explanation he turned the floor over to me. I introduced myself and started with the routine clear liquid regimen for the first four to six weeks depending on how they were doing. I then went over the next phase which was solid foods. We ate our lunch, making conversation and enjoying each other's company. It felt like we were actually getting to know each other more. I knew there was no reason for me to rush back to the office as I no longer had any afternoon patients to see.“Are you ready to go?” He asked quietly. I shook my head yes while mentally saying no. We walked to the car hand in hand, which made me feel safe knowing he wanted to try at working on a relationship with me. As we got into the car I felt a sadness come over me. Was this impromptu lunch really ending? I turned to look at him as he put the car in drive and headed towards my office. As if he could feel my gaze on him he looked at me and smiled.“I want to take you out Friday night. Are you free?” The smile on his face as he asked me out on another date was vibrant. I looked up into his blue-green eyes and saw them shining with a bright sparkle. I quickly made a mental note about today's date and recalled that I had a speaking engagement this F

Danielle pushed open the door and smiled almost immediately when she saw me. I froze because I was not sure how she was going to react. I could tell she wanted to run up and hug me but she stopped herself when she saw Jayce standing next to me. She calmed her excitement and walked to the counter with a smile and eager face.“The usual Alexa?”I laughed at her lack of being coy but it was clear she wanted it known that she knew who I was. I smiled and nodded my head as Jayce looked down at me surprised. Danielle glanced at me then back at Jayce and noticed us holding hands. I silently held my breath as I was waiting for the questions and accusations to start. I watched her face eagerly as I noticed the information slowly registering. Much to my surprise she smiled from ear to ear, clearly showing her approval.“What can I get for you sir?”When Danielle didn’t call him by his first or last name I wondered if maybe she was just trying to be polite and not cause a scene in the cafe by a
