CHAPTER 186

KYLO’S POV

Seated inside the hospital room, watching Varya’s unconscious form resting on that bed made my soul skip a few beats. For a second such scenes felt as if old regrets come back to clamor for attention, the blame squarely on me.

Just a minute ago, we had all been having dinners around the dining table with some light-hearted fun in welcoming Mrs. Luther back from the vacation.

And the next minute Varya’s face was all pale. She had just… passed out.

Panic gripped me when I called out her name, my voice cracking as I hurried over to her. Her eyelids dropped shut as she went slack in my grasp.

Everything thereafter had become hazy, my body moving her to the car almost instinctively, Grandpa barking orders, Mrs. Luther’s terrified screeching.

The aftermath of the events that occurred in that room only served to numb my senses, bright white lights, dull violent sounds and those words which I considered would be my salvation–erase my sadness.
