Chapter 12
Scarlett pov
The sensation on my skin made my hair stand on end with unease. A man in dark sunglasses, hands tucked into his pockets, approached me. He felt otherworldly, radiating an energy that was hard to define.
"Hey, princess, can you hand me the cake posh? A customer needs it," a colleague called out, waving his hands. But my attention was solely on the man coming closer. I lost my balance on the stool I was using to organize the store's products. I took a deep breath as my colleague hurried over, his hand brushing against the man who was slowly making his way toward me.
"Oh, sorry, sir!" my colleague said, but the man only smirked in response.
"Scar..." he began to say my name, but I interrupted him, my jaw dropping in disbelief.
"What’s with that look?" he asked.
"Nothing, it’s not your concern."
He shrugged, opened the door, grabbed the cake posh, and walked away. I stepped back, wanting to avoid any connection. If he was indeed supernatural, he might sense my energy. My heart raced with anxiety.
"I need a baked cake and Bulger, can I get one, miss?" he asked, pulling me from my thoughts. My heart sank as I struggled to regain my composure. "Sure, sir."
"I'll fetch that from another area; just give me a moment," I lied, needing time to gather myself before things turned eerie.
I managed a faint smile, striving to regain my composure. "Certainly, sir. I will retrieve that for you immediately."
As I made my way to the storage room, a flurry of questions filled my mind. Who was that enigmatic individual? What were his intentions? And what sort of supernatural aura was he exuding?
My hands quivered slightly as I collected the baked cake and Bulger. I inhaled deeply several times, attempting to steady my racing heart.
Upon my return, the customer waited patiently. I handed him his items, deliberately avoiding eye contact. "That will be $5.50, please."
As he completed the payment, I found myself glancing toward the door, half-hoping to see the mysterious figure reemerge.
He was nowhere to be found. I peered through the entrance where he had exited, but he had truly vanished. There was no trace of him, not even a footprint. I let out a heavy sigh, leaning back in my chair, my eyes closed. In the brief moments I spent trying to gather my thoughts, my vision became hazy, and everything seemed to revolve around that man.
“Help me! He is taking me away!!”
“Help, Mommy!!!”
My body trembled, and I was unable to open my eyes. Sweat dripped from my forehead, soaking my shirt, while tears streamed down my face. It was a blend of fear and mystery; the child's face was indistinct in my vision, but his voice resonated like that of my son, Henry.
“Mom!! No!!”
“Henry!!!” I cried out, jolting awake from my disorienting vision. Breathing heavily, my eyes scanned the surroundings, the soft hum and chatter of customers enveloping me.
“She appears to be acting strangely; how can someone daydream on such a warm afternoon?” A plump woman with smoky hair and blue eyes stared at me with evident disdain.
“I apologize for the outburst.” I quickly offered my apologies, but everyone hastily returned to the shelves, focused on their shopping.
Stephanie hurried to my side, concern etched across her features. "Scarlett, what’s the matter? Are you alright?”
I fought to regain my composure, my heart still pounding. "It was just... a bad dream," I stuttered.
The stout woman with smoky hair and blue eyes scoffed. "More like daydreaming. Some children are truly suffering, and here you are, frightening the customers."
Her remarks cut deep, yet I chose to disregard them, concentrating instead on calming my tumultuous thoughts.
Henry's voice reverberated in my mind. My son. Where could he be? Was he in peril?
One of the employees from earlier approached, exchanging anxious glances. "Scarlett, what happened?" he inquired.
I paused, uncertain of how much to disclose. "Just... a vision. I thought I heard Henry's voice."
Stephanie's demeanor softened. "We are here for you, Scarlett. Always."
As I stepped outside, the bright sunlight starkly contrasted with the darkness that lingered within me.
The vision persisted, refusing to dissipate. Henry's urgent plea for help echoed in my thoughts.
Suddenly, a faint whisper seemed to ride the breeze: "Find me, Mommy."
My heart raced. Was I losing my sanity, or was there something more ominous at work?
I murmured to myself, feeling a surge of emotion coursing through my veins, a powerful instinct that my son was in danger. I needed to call Elena to validate my fears. I hoped he was at school or somewhere safe.
I searched through my purse, my fingers trembling as I located my phone. My gaze swept across the screen, and I promptly dialed Elena's number.
A momentary silence on the line heightened my anxiety.
"Scarlett, Henry is fine. He’s in class. What’s the matter?" Elena responded, her voice both reassuring and inquisitive.
I took a deep breath, a wave of relief washing over me. "It’s just... a troubling dream. I apologize for bothering you."
Elena's tone softened. "No problem, Scarlett. You know I’m always here for you. Perhaps you should take a moment to unwind; you sound unsettled."
I nodded, even though she could not see me. "Yes, I will. Thank you, Elena."
As I ended the call, my friends gathered around me, their expressions filled with concern.
"Scarlett, what’s happening?" Stephanie inquired gently.
I paused, uncertain of how much to disclose. "Just... a vision. I feared Henry was in danger."
As dusk settled, I glanced at my wristwatch and realized it was time to leave. Upon exiting the store and looking around to hail a taxi, I noticed someone. The same man from my vision, the same individual I had seen in the store. Is he following me?
Chapter 1Scarlett POV I practiced swinging my staff with a few quick movements, relishing the sensation of manipulating metals as a means to concentrate without distractions. As I took in the metals surrounding me, my Aura pulsed strongly within my chest. With a quick motion, I hurled the metals into the swimming pool of the abandoned warehouse that served as my refuge.I am Scarlett, the last mutant and werewolf following the rogue-led third-world invasion. I've been in hiding for years, and I despise interruptions... My thoughts drifted as the metals, previously floating in the air, suddenly plummeted to the ground. I couldn't dodge the heavy iron pieces crashing down on me, nor could I shift into my wolf form for safety. "What on earth is happening?" I shouted, shielding my head with my arms. My eyes widened in horror, realizing that each falling piece could seriously harm an ordinary human.A few minutes later, I entered the kitchen, scanning for something easy to prepare when s

"You're here without Scarlett? Are you sure everything is okay? Did you two have another fight?"She rummaged through her worn leather bag, tied around her waist, as she spoke. The mention of Scarlett's name brought up memories of our past, and I felt a low growl rising in my throat. It had been months since I last saw her, but the wound still felt raw."Can I have my slot card, Melissa? I don't want to miss out on any of the games," I said.Melissa's expression turned hostile. "Fine, take it! You're desperate to break free from your shackles. I can't stand sluggish men like you," she snapped, tossing the card at me with force. Her words cut deep, and I felt a shiver run down my spine as she added, "Poor fucking werewolf."My eyes locked onto hers, and I nodded curtly. "How did you know I'm a werewol
Chapter 3Markus pov“ Scarlett, I've missed you so much," I whispered, my eyes gazing lovingly at the figure before me. Her gentle touch sent shivers down my spine as she tickled my ribs, leaving me giggling helplessly."What are you doing to me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, as her cold hands sent waves of pleasure through my body. I trailed off, my head spinning with delight, as I succumbed to the sensation of her presence. Her gentle movements left me breathless, and I couldn't help but moan softly, my fingers clutching the bed sheets as I lost myself in the moment."Is it just magic?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. Chapter 4Scarlett pov"I'd prefer a real drink, not this bubbly stuff," I told the bartender, my tone firm. Just then, a gruff voice beside me spoke up, "Scarlett is your go-to, what's with the rejection?" I felt a sudden itch in my throat, urging me to lash out, but instead, a loud, uncharacteristic belch escaped my lips, filling the room and drawing curious glances from nearby patrons. "Excuse me," I said calmly, my voice laced with genuine apology."Ah, we're used to that from you!" someone in the crowd quipped, prompting a burst of laughter at my expense. I shot back, "Yeah, that's because I'm an ass!" - a retort that only seemed to amuse them further. Realizing I'd said too much, I hastily grabbed my jacket from the bartender's counter and made a swift exit, slamming the wooden door behind me. The door's cheerful Christmas bell above it seemed jarringly out of place as I emerged into the bright sunlight, which hit me like a slap in the face."City bound?" the Uber driver asked,
Chapter 5Scarlett pov"Elena?" I whispered, my face pale with shock, as I struggled to comprehend the sight before me. I rushed forward, arms open wide, but instead of a warm embrace, she pushed me away, her hands firm on my chest. I stumbled back, my hair whipping sideways as I collided with the door. "Why...why are you pushing me away?" I demanded, confusion and hurt etched on my face. "What are you doing here?" I asked again, but her response only added to my bewilderment. She looked at me with a mix of surprise and curiosity, shaking her head gracefully. "Who are you?" she countered, her question sending shivers down my spine."Hey, miss, I brought you here to stay, not to cause trouble," Nyx said, gently grasping my wrist, but I pulled away, crossing my arms under my chest and turning to face him. "What now? Are you saying I'm causing trouble? That's my friend Elena! Don't make me feel like I'm losing my mind," I exclaimed, playfully punching his chest. He winced, groaning loud
Chapter 6Katherine povI found myself uncomfortable with the woman's gaze, which seemed to linger on me. Her intense stare, accompanied by dramatic eye rolls, made me feel uneasy. I would often force a smile when our eyes met.Scarlett's gruff tone was unmistakable as she said, “How does it feel to live alone, like a loner?” The emphasis on the word “loner’ sparked a defensive response within me, but I chose to laugh it off. “That's my problem to deal with, don't you think?” I replied, my voice dripping with sarcasm as I shrugged my shoulders and pocketed my hands. I turned to escape into a book, but my solitude was short-lived. A gentle hand on my shoulder sent shivers down my spine, and I spun around to face Scarlett, my eyes wide with surprise. “How did you get here?” I asked, my voice laced with astonishment. She replied simply, “I walked.'"The sound of footsteps on the stairs caught our attention, and we both turned to look in that direction. “Nyx,” I whispered, smiling at the
Scarlett povAs I stepped into the new building, my mind was totally preoccupied with that wild woman who looked just like Elena. Please, let it not be Elena trying to play games with me; I would never let her live that down."Welcome, Scarlett, to my little abode," she greeted, all calm and collected, her smile shining like she was trying to sell me a house. I couldn't help but roll my eyes, brushing off her overly friendly vibe."Thanks, miss," I managed to mutter, my lips twitching as a reluctant smile threatened to escape.“It’s all good! Katherine has mentioned you a lot; maybe we could be friends. I…” she trailed off, her brow scrunching up in thought. I found myself at a loss for words, caught off guard."Miss," I called softly, motioning to her as she nervously fidgeted with her fingers. A wave of guilt hit me; maybe I was being too harsh. I wrapped my arms around her, lifting her chin to meet my gaze, and noticed a tear resting on my palm."Wait, were you crying?" I asked, my
Chapter 8Scarlett povIt's a new week, and it's time to get ready for work. Marina landed me a sales position at a supermarket to hold me over until she can find something better in an office. I realize that's just a dream for someone like me, who feels uneducated and out of place.I was still rolling around in bed, completely naked. My hands sluggishly reached for the duck-shaped alarm clock, struggling to silence it. With a heavy sigh, I glanced at the main wall clock, blinking in disbelief at the time. "Crap!" I shouted, quickly swinging my legs off the bed. A sharp pain shot through me as my skin pinched. What was that? I wondered, gently probing the mattress with my hands. My heart raced as I rubbed the sore spot. I then shuffled to the wardrobe to slip into a revealing dress. My stomach growled, and I felt lightheaded as I stumbled toward the wardrobe, my legs moving without much thought."Scarlett! It's time for work; the bus for store staff is here," Marina called from the h
