DRAKE
I can't believe what Alicia has just done. I don't know whether her actions are equal to a rejection or not. If it's a rejection then it will be too bad. As the Alpha, and as a man, it would have been better if I was the one doing the rejection. There is however something I don't understand. Where is her wolf or why is it not responding? Usually, when mates meet, it's their respective wolves that feel the attraction. My wolf already identified her as my mate, so why didn't her's do the same? So many questions linger in my brain after she left and I can't find any peace because my wolf won't let me. “She will come back brother, don't worry so much.” Victor says as he pours some coffee for me. Victor is my step brother. My mother died a long time ago when I was a small boy. I remember how much she loved me because I was her only child. When she died my father was very devastated and withdrawn. He retreated into some sort of cocoon and concentrated all his efforts on pack work. I was raised by our maidservants throughout my teenage years. Then at some party my father met another mate and things moved swiftly. He brought her to stay with us and within no time she begat Victor. I was so happy that I now had a brother. Since the day I first saw him, I have grown to love him and he is always in my life. The small boy is so full of wisdom and sometimes I allow him to advice me. When my father handed over the leadership of the pack to me he moved to a small house near the woods with his mate but Victor remained with me. We have lived together for three years now and our relationship is like that of real brothers, not step brothers. “So you think so? Why do you think so?” I ask him. “Because you are irresistible. You are the Alpha of this great pack and any girl will be honoured to be your mate. You saw last night, more than a hundred of them were here, all praying that they be the one who is chosen to be yours.” He says. For the first time I don't like his advice but I don't let him know. “Which makes this girl special. Look, all the others you have described were only too eager to throw themselves at me, but this one wasn't even interested in attending the party. And when I invited here, where I hear she unwillingly came, she blows hot and cold.” I reply. I can't understand this. This is the very first time a girl has behaved like this in my presence. Some years ago when I was in college the girls were all over me, asking to be my lovers but I never got close to them, except one. Josephine. The reason I chose to be in a relationship with her was because I wanted company. She was from a wealthy business family that spoilt her by giving her lots of money. She had cars, expensive clothes and jewelry and we lived large. But when I came back here and became the Alpha I had to call off the relationship. It was not going anywhere because she never wanted to be a mother and she had developed an affinity for traveling. I couldn't travel with her and that marked the end of us. Last I heard about her was that she was enjoying life in the Bahamas. Also, our parting was a relief because I was now free to do like other werewolves, I had to get a mate, the one chosen for me by our mother, the moon goddess. I started looking for my mate immediately after I became the Alpha. I did this by attending parties, organizing parties and even walking incognito within my pack but I was not finding her. Then some days ago I got a revelation while I slept, that my mate was right here in the pack and if I looked closely I was going to find her. That's why I organized the party and that's how we are where we are now. “No one can reject the trappings of power my brother. Just relax and it will only be a matter of days before she comes back here begging.” Victor says. If it were the ordinary girls, the one at the party yesterday, I would agree with him. But there is something different about Alicia that I saw, and that is what attracted me to her even more. Her face was once very beautiful, but the scar now makes her look otherwise. However, that's what I like about her. She's not like the others who had a thick layer of make-up on their faces and foul smelling perfumes on their bodies. Alicia was all natural, not pretending to be what she wasn't. Now this is one girl I can't allow to get away from me. She is going to be my mate. She is going to become the Luna of this pack. “This pack needs a Luna. As the Alpha I need support in leading it. The females of this pack need someone to look up to. Ever since father resigned and his mate followed suit, the office has always been vacant. I need to find Alicia. She is my destined mate.” I say. “Just don't look desperate. If you go looking for her she'll think that you need her so much while in real sense it's her who needs you most.” He says. “I don't care. I'm going to find out where she lives. I'm going there to meet her parents and convince her to come with me. That is the first thing I'll do tomorrow morning.” I conclude. “Well, good luck." He says. I need to get back to work. There are several phone calls I need to make before I sleep. I hear that rogues are wreaking havoc in nearby packs and I need to know from my border guards whether they have heard or seen something. “Well, Victor, I'll see you later. Let me do some work.” “Thanks brother. I'll be in my room if you need me.”THIRD PERSON'S POVBernice and Tiffany meet at the canteen on Sunday morning. Tiffany is Bernice's best friend and partner in crime. They have done so many despicable things together and what ties them to each other is the love for crime. As they drink their coffee they talk in low tones.“Tiffany! Just tell me what I am going to do about Scarface because I am losing it.” Bernice seethes in cold rage. She's holding her cup so tightly as if in an attempt to crush it.“Who is Scarface?” Tiffany asks indifferently.Bernice looks at her in disbelief, wondering whether Tiffany has just landed from outer space. Scarface is a girl who is fast gaining popularity among the students and teaching fraternity, with almost everyone talking about her. Mostly, they talk about how goodhearted she is and her dislike for controversy. Just the other day the school administration was thinking about giving her some leadership position and they quietly interviewed some students regarding the same. Bernice k
ALICIAWhen I get home it's already late in the evening and everyone is worried about my lateness. I never stay out late and my routine is well known. Besides, I have duties assigned to me and I am expected to play my part. I find Benjamin watching TV with David. Melissa is in the kitchen.“Hi guys. Sorry I am late.” I say as I walk towards them. Melissa hears my voice and joins us, very happy to see me.“Hey dear.” She speaks. “I was almost about to call you. Dinner is ready. Come help me in serving.” She pulls me into the kitchen and we start with preparations. The sweet aroma of the food reminds me that I am starving.“I know you are eager to find out where I spent the day.” I break the silence at the dining table. I have now silenced my hunger pangs and I feel like talking. What I have gone through is not something I can keep away from my family anyway.“Yes please. I'll be only too glad to hear that. You see, earlier today the Beta and Gamma found me at work and asked me about y
ALICIAOn Monday morning I arrive at school very early eager to continue on where I left on Saturday morning. Classes are going to start at midmorning so I have some time alone to do my studies. There are no other students and I take advantage of the silence and delve into my books, but some shadow stands in front me. I think of telling whoever it is to walk away and let me study, but when I look up and find out who it is, I give up. Maybe I should just go back home and come back when classes start.“Hi Scarface.” Bernice says with a sly smile on her face. Behind her is another girl whose name I can't recall.“What do you want this time?” I ask her, cutting to the chase. Her smile changes into a sneer and I can see the contempt that she has for me, it's so tangible. I wonder what it is that I did to her.“You think you are so smart, don't you? But the truth is that you are just a big piece of crap.” She says to the amusement of the girl behind her who grins from ear to ear as she has
ALICIA“If it was someone else, I would have banished them Alicia.” Drake says. We are together in his office and he's seated behind his big desk while I sit on the couch. After the scene in school he asked the administration to give severe punishment to Bernice and Tiffany. As for me, he told me to come with him to his office and I was frightened all along the way. I thought that he was coming to read me the riot act and banish me from the pack. This alone instilled so much fear in me because Benjamin and his children were my family now and I couldn't fathom leaving them.“I am so sorry for allowing my anger to take control of me. I promise that I won't let that happen again.” I say. He scribbles something on an open file on his desk then looks up to face me.“What really happened?” He asks as he puts down his pen. I narrate to him everything, starting with the taunting by Bernice and the insults. I stress the point that all these actions against me happen without any provocation.“W
ALICIAAfter lunch I stay on for a while. I decide to help the workers with the dishes and cleaning up the house before leaving. Drake tries to talk me out of it but when I insist he gives up and tells me that he is going to his office and that should I need him I should go there. One of the maids, Katrina is very friendly and we talk a lot as we clean up the kitchen.“Are you his mate?” She asks me. I don't know how to answer this one because I don't know the answer.“Maybe, maybe not.” I say.“I'll stick with the maybe. Now, let me tell you Alicia, you are the most luckiest girl alive. Drake is a great man. He treats us his workers very well so it goes without saying that he will treat his mate like a queen.” She says with a motherly tone. Katrina is about thirty five years old and she has worked for this family since when she was about eighteen. She tells me that her mate is one of the fighters of this pack and when I ask her whether she knows Benjamin and David she says she does.
ALICIAI am seated by a big gray house, wearing my sunglasses and enjoying the sunlight. I don't know how I have gotten here but that doesn't bother me. Somewhere within the compound someone is cooking a nice meal, my nostrils can tell me that. I am enjoying my life because I have finally found my mate. It's my wolf I should be celebrating really because after being absent for so long she is now active. She is the one who has led me to this mate and I am very grateful.I can sense his scent, a very intoxicating one, as he walks around the house and I am waiting patiently for him to come out so that I can meet him. I wonder why his wolf has not alerted him of my presence but I am willing to wait for as long as it takes until when he will come out. I have waited for this day for too long and I am glad that it has finally come. What makes me happy is that my mate is a person of means. His compound is so tidy. The grass has been mowed to an uniform height and watered properly to a dark gr
ALICIAIt's the first day of physical training. After classes we all troop to the pack's training grounds. It's not compulsory, but for every student who wants to train. We are all given some simple tasks to perform so that the best among us can be chosen. Exercises range from sit ups, press ups, jumping jacks and many more for girls. For men it's weight lifting and body building. Those who can lift heavy weights are given first chances, then other exercises are conducted on the others. Finally, we are told to run around the field. Those who finish first are given an opportunity to be among the best. I fail in all the categories, and so does Amos because we end up in the same category. We find some time to laugh at ourselves at some corner after the selection has been done.“Amos! I can't believe that you are so weak. You can't lift a fifty kilogram weight and you can't run?” I ask in jest, knowing only too well that I am no better.“I don't care. I may be weak in athletics and physic
ALICIAAmos cowers in fright. He doesn't know what to say to a visibly angry Alpha. He mutters a weak “excuse me” then walks away, leaving his coffee untouched. I watch as he walks towards the washrooms and feel some pity for him. Drake towers above me, waiting for me to speak.“I am here Alpha Drake. Please let me know what I can do for you.” I say, looking up to face him. I must admit that I am also scared of him too. He cuts the figure of someone worth fearing. I can feel everyone's eyes on us, the whole restaurant having come to a standstill.“In my car, right outside. Let's go now.” A command given in a low tone, but carrying huge weight. He starts walking out and I quickly follow closely behind. From the corner of my eye I see Amos, standing some distance away, in some recess in the restaurant, quietly watching what is happening.Once outside Drake opens the car door for me and once I am seated he gets in, reverses out of the parking lot and drives away at high speed. No one say
“I must go. Many of the trainees must leave with me too. The battle has already started.” Drake tells me. He is already up and in the sitting room. He has bathed, dressed up and shaved his beard. I can only admire his energy. It has been a very eventful night and I had a very hard time waking up. I felt like sleeping on and on to recover the sleep I missed. But here is Drake looking ever energetic. Maybe with time I will have the same energy.“It is still too early though, maybe you should go back and have some more sleep. You look very sleepy.” He says. I wonder whether he has read my mind. Not difficult though because since some time last night, we can mind link with him easily. This remarkable fit came with the marking. “No.” I say as I fall into his outstretched arms. “I must see you off. I must also pack some clothes and other essentials for your trip. I must stay awake now that I am up. There's a lot of work for me in my office and I know that delegations will start coming in a
ALICIA I thought the meeting between my parents and I would be difficult but it turned out just fine. Except for a few moments when my mother became emotional and cried for a while, prompting me to cry too, there wasn't much fuss. “My daughter, we all knew you were alive. We are werewolves remember, so it's very easy to detect when one of us dies. What we didn't know is whether we will ever see you again.” She says. “Mom, I had to leave abruptly. Actually, I was thinking about telling Drake to accompany me on a tour back home. Then this happened and here we are.” I say. We are in the dining room at the pack house, my parents, Drake and I. Earlier, we made a tour around the hall talking to the guests then came back here for this meeting. “I knew that you were in danger, my instincts told me. Now that you have explained about the scar I am satisfied that what I was feeling was right. However, we are now very happy to see you in good health.” Mum can't keep quiet and we let her s
ALICIA Silence reigns for a fleeting moment as I contemplate on what to say. The moment I was dreading has indeed come and I am now regretting yet again why I didn't tell Drake about Eric the moment we met.“I...um, I was going to tell you about it Alpha..” I start explaining myself as the two men look at me. Eric with victory, albeit temporary, written all over his face and Drake with confusion. I know I am in a deep hole.“Then what happened?” Drake asks me.“Tell him. Tell him now while I am here Alicia. I won't contradict you.” Eric jumps in with his hands flying in the air to emphasize his point. A few meters away I can see that the scene is attracting attention from other guests and some pack members.“He rejected me the moment I found out that he was my mate. I rejected him back and that's why I ran out of his pack. That's why I came here Drake.” I say, looking at Eric in the eye. I am seething with rage, I am feeling tonnes of hatred for him. As far as I am concerned, we were
ALICIA “As for you, I have no words. But you should look yourself in the mirror.” I remember Josephine's words as if they were spoken yesterday. This is because in the middle of the gathering, just as I stood up to talk, I saw her seated, looking at us. Her blonde hair is so distinguishable, and so is her face. I am sure that it's her.Drake knows that something is wrong immediately because I am hesitant to taking the microphone. The reason for this is that I know this girl and I know what she is capable of doing, or worse still, saying. Slowly, Drake looks into the crowd and he sees her, then his face changes. Anger is displayed in him and I get it that he is furious at those who let her in. But he takes control of himself and gets closer to me, then he whispers into my ear.“It is fine don't worry. Go ahead with your speech. I'm going to take care of this personally.” He says. He takes my hand and walks me the short distance to the microphone, then he adjusts the stand by lowering
ALICIA“Jim, I am not surprised. I know he is here already and it's okay. But there is something I would like to know later after this party.” Drake says as he fixes a hard glance on me. I lower my eyes from his powerful stare.“A few minutes ago that wretched man was spotted here in the changing rooms and I would like to know who is that in this pack who allowed him in and what is it that he wanted.” My heart beats extra hard but I try to remain composed. Jim is silent, waiting for the Alpha to speak.“Well, I am going in now. You are in charge of the program and I trust that you will do a great job.” Drake says to Jim. Then he comes closer, places a peck on my cheek and tells me, “Remember to be strong and courageous. See you in a few.”I watch as he takes the few steps to the door, then he opens it and takes a quick glance at us before stepping into the hall. Before the door closes behind him, I can hear loud applauses from those inside. After the door closes there is silence.I am
ALICIA“Well, well, well. Look what we have here.” The familiar voice booms behind me as his scent wafts along. I can distinguish Eric's voice from far and the fact that he is already here in my private space brings butterflies to my stomach. In our conversation with Drake in the morning we discussed Eric, and it was obvious that Drake didn't want to see him at the party. Now that he is already here, not in the hall but in my changing room, the situation is complicated. Something told me that Drake suspects Eric of something, I wonder what will happen if he ever finds out that I was his mate and he rejected me. What if he finds him here?I wish I told him the truth.“Alicia, what's wrong? Are you pretending that you don't know me?” Eric asks as he gets closer.“Get away from me Eric. This is a restricted area and no one is supposed to come here without the express permission of Alpha Drake.” I shout at him as I retreat into the changing room. My aide Joyce hears me shouting and comes
ALICIAToday I am feeling great. I am as fit as a fiddle, getting stronger and stronger. I can't believe that I was feeling so sick and in so much pain just a few days ago. Whatever magic Drake applied on me did a lot of good and I am forever grateful.I now have an office in the pack house complete with an assistant. Her name is Joyce and she is always at my beck and call. Right now she is writing for me the speech that I am going to deliver at the party tonight, an acceptance speech. All I need is to do is to memorize it so that I won't appear to be reading from a piece of paper. I know that speaking in public is not for everyone but I will give it a try.Drake is out for some Alpha duties, something to do with border security. He walked out abruptly after receiving a call from his border guards. Before leaving the two of us were in the office and he was giving me some tips on public speaking.“The people will all keep quiet and fix their eyes on you. Just don't panic. Be yourself.
THIRD PERSON'S POVAlpha Eric sits on his swivel chair and looks outside. There is rain, heavy rain. He adjusts the volume of his music system and the sound drowns the noise from the rain. He doesn't love rain and he wishes it goes away soon. He takes a glass from a sideboard and pours in some strong drink which he takes in one swig. As it goes down his throat he closes his eyes to savour it's taste. Then he takes out an expensive cigar from his equally expensive humidor, clips the tip with a pair of scissors and lights it. He lets the smoke into his lungs and holds his breath. When he exhales the blue smoke, he places his legs on the table and sits back. It's only then that he presses a button on the table and a bell rings at the reception. He is now ready to receive his visitors. They have been waiting for about two hours, not because he was busy, but because he wants them to know that he is not easily available.Bernice and Tiffany walk in slowly as the blue smoke from the cigar dr
ALICIA.I am completely healed now. All the pain has disappeared and I am now as fit as a fiddle. Also, I feel more energized than ever before and something else, I feel so much attracted to Alpha Drake. I think my wolf is on her way back. This must be her doing. Drake has insisted that I am not going to leave and as such my room has been remodified to the way it was before. All the hospital equipments have been removed and it's just a normal room.I miss school. I have really missed a lot but the doctor said that I must rest for two weeks. Even though I am now fine, I have to obey his instructions. School can wait.I have started meeting other Pack members, especially those who come to the Pack House on a daily basis. As usual, I'm introduced as the Alpha's guest but that doesn't bother me as much. Drake has already told me that he is going to introduce me formally. Anything else before then has been left to the imagination of the pack members, except the very few who know the truth.
