GIVE ME TIME

ALICIA

I have been having a problem from the day I was attacked in the forest. My wolf disappeared completely. I think it's because of the serious injuries the beast inflicted on me.

Melissa told me that I spent about a week in bed unconscious. Since then I have tried severally to summon my wolf but to no avail. Right now I need her most but still she is nowhere to be found. Drake towers before me, the sleeves of his shirt rolled up to reveal muscular arms, networks of veins intertwined with toned muscles. That is all I can see for now because my head is bowed but I belief that he is a sight to behold. The girls didn't throw themselves at him for nothing.

Silence reigns for a very long time and I just wish that this ends soon so that I may go home. I am inside the biggest office in this pack and the owner is standing in front of me, saying nothing, watching me as I teetering on the brink of fear.

“What's your name?” He finally says and I lift up my eyes to look at his. They are still powerful, looking deep into me as if to warn me against lying.

“My name is Alicia Waters.” I reply. He goes silent for a while. Then he comes closer and holds up my chin. His gaze is now on my scar, my ugly scar. When I saw myself in the mirror after the attack I couldn't believe what I saw. The scar changed my appearance completely and it took time for me to accept myself. Drake runs his hand through the scar and I am almost trembling.

“Will you tell me about it?” He asks.

“Yes I will Alpha. I was attacked by a beast sometime ago. The wounds healed and that is all that was left.” I don't know what he is up to. If I committed an offense by not attending the party last night then he should cut to the chase. I am now finding it difficulty to continue standing.

“You can take a seat.” He says as he retreats to his swivel chair behind the desk. Immediately I take the only seat available, directly opposite him.

“Maybe I should tell you why you are here. But I think your wolf must have told you this already.” He says. My wolf? No? It's as if I am back to my childhood days when all I could hear people talking about was their wolves when I had none. Now Alpha Drake assumes that my wolf is active but it's not.

“Yesterday we had a very colourful party. Too bad that you didn't attend because it would have been more colourful. This is because I have found out that you are what I was looking for, my mate.”

My heart skips a beat and I almost stand up from my seat. I am his mate? I can't believe this. My wolf, where are you? Please come and confirm this. It's as if I am whispering this prayer.

I remember vividly the incident where Alpha Eric rejected me and threw me into the swimming pool. As I swam out I remember myself rejecting him too. I felt a lot of hatred for him and decided to inflict the rejection pain on him too. I also swore not to indulge myself in any other affairs any time soon because I wanted to exact revenge on Eric. In my mind, he had to pay dearly for what he did to me and until then I was to spend my time augmenting myself. No distractions. But now here we are.

“Alpha Drake, I am honoured.” I find myself saying. “About my wolf, she hasn't said anything about this so I guess we have to wait for her to say something about it.” I add.

H gets off his seat and goes round the massive desk to stand behind me. I can feel his presence just a few inches away.

“My wolf has already told me that you are the one. When yours comes around she will confirm the same so you need not worry.” His baritone voice is so near, it's as if he's speaking into my ear. I maintain my composure, but deep down I am thinking deeply.

“You will need to move in here with me now, because you are now going to become my mate and the Luna of this pack.” He adds.

“But Alpha....” I start to speak but he cuts me short.

“Call me Drake. You are my mate and I can't allow you to continue being so formal with me.” He says. He sits next to me and his hand is now on my chin again.

“There must be a problem with your wolf. She should have helped you in healing this. However, our pack doctor is an expert and he is going to correct this.”

Little does he know that my scar is like a badge of honor, a constant reminder that I must seek revenge for wrongs done to me.

“Thanks. You are so kind." I say. Just then the door opens and a boy, about ten years old walks in.

“Ah Victor, come in. Meet my mate Alicia. Alicia, meet my brother Victor.” Drake says. I can see now that he can really smile, a smile that melts away all the seriousness on his face. For the first time I have seen his teeth. He looks absolutely handsome.

The boy rushes to where I am seated and tightly hugs me. I hug him back, fighting not to get emotional. He reminds me of my brother Amos when he was young.

“Congratulations Drake for finding your mate. I was beginning to get worried for you. Alicia, I'm so happy to meet you.” Victor, whose hands are still on my shoulders says. I don't know what to say, but I must leave this office. I am confused. I don't know what to do now that events have turned up this way.

Drake's phone rings and he walks back to his seat and takes the call. From the conversation I figure out that it's pack stuff. Meanwhile, Victor, who is very talkative, keeps on talking to me.

“Who hurt you Alicia?” He points at my scar. I slowly raise my hand and caress it slowly.

“Injuries here and there Victor.” I say. He is all over me now.

“It looks nice. Makes you look extremely beautiful.” The conversation goes on. I really want to go away and think, maybe ask for opinions and advice from Benjamin. He is much like my father and I wouldn't take a step like the one Drake is suggesting without Benjamin's word.

I want to rise up and go but Drake is through with the phone and he joins us at the couch.

“There is nothing much to think about Alicia. The moon goddess had this planned from the time we were born. You are my mate from now until the end of time.” He says.

“That's great Drake. I like her already.” Says Victor. I can see that it will not be easy to disentangle myself from this, but I have to.

“Excuse me Alpha, sorry, Drake,” I muster all my energy and speak. I have found out that if I let the conversation with Victor to continue it will be very difficult to disengage. Drake and Victor all look at me, waiting patiently for my next word. I carefully compose my speech.

“This has found me unawares and I can't act upon it without thinking about it. Please give me some time to do so. I promise that I will be here in the pack if you need me.” Drake looks at me with unbelieving eyes, but I return the look with pleading eyes.

“Please.” I add. They're all wordless. The silence reigns for some time and my wish is to find myself outside the pack house.

“Please don't go. Stay here with us please.” Victor is almost crying, but I stand my ground. Drake stands up and I follow suit.

“No problem Alicia. No problem. You can go.” He says as he goes back to his chair.
