Eden woke up with a splitting headache. Apart from that, she seemed well enough. There were no bruises, no scratches– nothing broken. Considering the intense earthquake that cracked the walls of the Hotel Setedesange.

A pair of deep grey eyes coated with worry is the first thing she saw. Eden was laying in an ambulance bed and Remus loomed beside her. He didn’t say anything when he saw her rouse. But there was an untold uneasiness with his usually tough features. Like he was anticipating a reaction from Eden. But on what, Eden can’t put her finger into it.

She moved her body to sit. It made her dizzy so she decided to lay back down. Remus was quick on her side touching her forehead and her arm, “No need to force yourself. Just stay still.”

Eden nodded. Just a while ago, Remus and her were bickering over what music to play during their car ride to the hotel. Of course, Remus had the last say. He always had anyway. But right now, there was no cockiness, no annoyance as he assisted Ed

Eden held a nicely made invitation in her hand. It seemed like an engagement invitation, with golden letterings of the names Daciana and Keiser and it was addressed for Remus and Lyall. She knocks gently on Remus’ door. From the outside, she can hear that he was on a call. He sounded displeased for some reason. But Eden isn’t scared of him anymore. After what happened at the Setedesange Hotel, he seemed a lot kinder to her. And for lack of any logical explanation for his sudden change of demeanour towards her, she can only assume that it was his guilt that made him so. Remus had just ended his call as Eden entered. He looked up and upon seeing her, he visibly calmed down. “What?” He asked, using his placid voice. Eden still wasn’t used to it. Somehow, she is still waiting for the always-irritated-boss to come back. She waves the invitation in her hand, “I have received this today. I gave one to Lyall and this one's for you.” Eden laid the invitation on Remus’ desk, who eyed it apa

The night of the engagement party, Eden got to know Remus through the eyes of the person who loves him most– his sister. Daisy. She was everything her brother wasn’t, playful, loquacious, impulsive and most importantly, she smiled a lot. Daisy was happy, elated even, that her brother had brought a date. He wasn’t the relationship type and despite the constant request of Grandpa Conri for him to find a mate, Remus would find another thing, another problem to focus on instead. It could be another client for the company or the growing number of Vargulfs. Hell, even Daisy’s romances were deemed a problem for him. And now, there’s the fall of one of the Sacred Gates and the threat of a new enemy. So when her brother rejected Helicent, she wasn’t surprised, even when everyone was.No other Alpha has refused a Conor. It was a pack, a blood bond that goes way beyond the old times. When the spirits of the wolves initially merged with men, only a certain bloodline was able to help them return a

  • Running with Wolves   Prologue

The air was cold, and the night was dark. But it doesn’t matter for the young wolf. What is cold to his thick, coarse fur– what is dark for his eyes that sees better in the shadows? This is his first night as a Delta Guard. Finally, a part of the pack and not just a litter pup. He runs through the woods, feeling the tree branches snap as he passes them by. Squirrels and rabbits, foxes and deers, all make way as they sense him near. Is this what freedom feels like? Is this what power is? The wilderness calls and he answers. And then there was a snap– a twig breaking but it wasn’t from him. The chirping of crickets died down, the croaking of frogs silenced. Even the leaves stopped rustling. As if every creature has suddenly gone into hiding. Which could only mean one thing– a predator is near. The young wolf stopped. His every sense is awake, watchful, cautious. And then there was a scent. Of something unfamiliar. They were taught since they were very young, the unknown is dangerous–

  • Running with Wolves   Chapter 1 - Young Alpha

The merger between the Volkov Corporation and Grand Freedman Incorporation has finally been settled. It was almost three years in the making, but Remus is just glad it’s finally out of the way. After the contract signing, the photo op and the shaking of hands, he immediately left onboard his private chopper. His stint as the young Chairman has ended for the day– now he needs to be the young Alpha. Back at the mansion, the four Betas await him– Lyall, Fridolf, Amarok and Zeeb. They were also joined by their grandfather, the previous Alpha, Conri Volkov and The Order of the Sabbath’s own Investigation Chief, Helicent Coinin-Conor. They have a much more important issue to discuss: The Dragon Gate has fallen. As Remus entered, the Betas and Helicent stood. Only Grandpa Conri remained seated, with his cane in front of him and a grave expression on his face. But nobody takes this defeat harder than Zeeb, who hangs his head low, with jaw clenched and hands closed into a tight fist. Remus

It has been a week since Eden started her internship and she still isn't used to their Chairman's constant disregard of her presence. He's always just so apathetic and barely even smiles at all. She wondered how Lyall could endure working with him. Given that they're cousins, but still.Eden's main responsibility is to closely work with Lyall– with his schedules, his meetings, even making sure that his dates never overlap each other. But he's more often than not with Remus. Which means Eden has to constantly bear his patronising gaze.It was late on a Friday night and Eden was preparing to go home when Lyall tapped on her table. He was holding a thick rim of paper and had a puppy-dog look on his face. He only ever looks like that when he needs a favour which often involves facing Remus. She pointed at the thick set of papers he had on his hand, "Did you by any chance forgot to have Remus sign that?""I did…" Lyall breathes as he falls on the chair in front of Eden. He looked exaspera

Helicent called Remus early that morning, saying that she had more proof that only one Vampire attacked the East Delta Pack and not an entire army as what they wanted to believe. She was in the Volkov’s mansion in fifteen minutes, carrying more photos to show them. The photos are now all laid out on the long table for the scrutiny of the pack. It was the autopsy of the bodies the Investigation Unit had recovered at the crime scene. “If you would look at each of the wounds, the abrasions are all the same dimensions. And each of these are from different bodies.” In each of the bodies shown on the photo, there were four deep lacerations on the skin. Each is enough to kill a Wolf in one swing. Helicent continued, she produced another set of photos. This time of bite marks. “The bite marks are all the same as well.” Remus studied the shape of the teeth. And he felt that it wasn’t only him who felt the growing concern. Helicent’s next words confirmed what all of them had feared. “The bi

Over the weeks, the investigation on who attacked the Dragon Gate only led to dead ends after dead ends. Even the Betas are unable to catch the scent of this Hybrid. It didn’t leave any on the crime scene. It has masked itself well using wolfsbane. And even when they followed to where the smell of wolfsbane ended, it only led them to a cliff that overlooks the vast ocean. Either the Hybrid jumped and swam across another continent, or it just vanished into thin air, is another question. “Does it even burn in the sun?” Fridolf asked no one in particular. They were all sprawled at the Volkov’s library, trying and failing to find something about this new enemy. There was barely anything written about the Hybrid apart from a very old scroll dictating the prophecy:A war-born child comes to theeThe dark and light side of the moon it’ll beBlood of a Vampire, and a Lycan’s venomOn a red moon they’ll have one kind claim themAnd every and all shall fall on their kneesTo the child of all

  • Running with Wolves   Chapter 5 - Blood Bond

The moment Lyall said which island the Hybrid might have swam into, Remus felt a dark cloud loom over his head. Did he just send Eden to her death? It was unbearable to think so. Eden– soft and weak with only her resolve to impress him, now a meal to a monster they don’t even know how to fight. Remus was up like lighting and ordering Lyall to prepare a chopper to fly him there right away. There wasn’t much time to wait for everyone to get here and then fly there together. Every minute they wait, is a minute out of Eden’s life. And Remus wouldn’t be able to live with the guilt of sending an innocent girl towards her death over something as trivial as a final test. Zeeb insisted on tagging along, but Remus deemed him too close to the case to trust his stability. He instructed him to round up Fridolf and Amarok instead to ready the Delta Guards for back-up. Lyall wanted to come too, but Remus told him that if something terrible happens, Lyall shall take his place as the Alpha. They do

Lyall wouldn’t let Remus leave without a proper plan. This was his purpose. To be the voice of reason when Remus loses his.“Give me thirty-minutes.” He told Remus. It took both Zeeb and him to restrain their frenzied Alpha. Only when he said, “If you go there unarmed, do you think it’ll save Eden’s life?” did he calm down. Given that the Alpha possesses all the powers of the previous Alphas, the Hybrid is still an unknown enemy. And from when they were but younglings, the one thing drilled into them is that the unknown is dangerous. So what more is this being they have no experience in ever fighting before? Lyall was able to call on Fridolf and Amarok within minutes. They will be flying on their own choppers with the Best of their Deltas as back-ups. Helicent was also contacted and she managed to round up the most Elite Soldiers from The Order of the Sabbath to once again fill their guns and grenades with ultraviolet ammunition.
