Chapter 6

The cab dropped us in front of my house, where I had been living secretly for the past five years now, Flora helped me with the groceries while I got the kids out and took them inside the house after paying the driver.

I sent the twins to their bedroom to stay in the meantime, until I could figure out the punishment they had for being notorious and causing Aunt Flora some trouble.

Alex and Kevin looked sorry and tried to bat their eyes at me to make me forget my resolve to be harsh as I could, on them.

"We are sorry mummy, we didn't mean to do this. Please don't punish us." Alex said as I pressed my lips in a tight line willing myself not to fall for their puppy eyes.

It would only be a recipe for disaster at this point.

"Go in first and stay there. I want to get started on dinner. Then I'll decide what I'll do with you. If you keep begging me, then I'll extend your punishment." I said to them and it worked as they quickly scrambled away not willing to get into any bigger trouble that they are already in.

Sighing, I made my way to the kitchen as I slumped on one of the chairs exhausted as Flora was being an angel helping me put away the groceries and started on dinner.

"You are literally a godsend!" I exclaimed happily as Flora gave me a look that seemed to show how much she disapproved of that statement.

"Trying to butter me up in order to keep me from leaving isn't going to help your case. Your children are trouble magnets and you know it." She said as I nodded alongside with her agreeing with it because this wasn't the first time that they had done something this terrifying.

"I know, that they are a lot. And you are really trying with them and that's a lot I can say. Ever since they could walk, and understand things, they have been causing a lot of trouble for you and I know that you love them too much to leave them hanging, don't you?" I said smiling at her trying to win her over again with a puppy look as Flora rolled her eyes.

"Fine, I won't stop babysitting them but this is the last one. If they do something else that they shouldn't do. I'll step down. I have been in the police station twice. One was when they acted like I kidnapped them because I refused to let them leave the park to head home. And it took you and their birth certificate and a signed agreement between us to bail me out and they looked sheepishly and said sorry. You are lucky they are kids. Or.... Nevermind." Flora said shaking her head as she tried to calm herself down from getting agitated.

"Do you know who the father of your twins are?" She asked instead surprising me. This wasn't the first time she had tried to get information about my past but this was the first time she was actively asking me questions directly to get answers.

"Yes I know the father of my kids." I replied bluntly not happy to think about that asshole Damon anymore. Remembering what he almost did to me, killing our kids, I had no reason to even talk about him.

"And you are certain it's not Mr Callum. I saw that man, they looked alike, too much for me to even consider maybe this is who you are running from. I overheard the guards talking about it when they were holding us, and even Mr Callum was fixated on the twins, asking me if I had met him before. Luckily due to my quick thinking and he assuming I was the mum, I was able to get out of that fix. I don't know if that man would drop everything and think maybe it's just a joke or if he is going to dig around until he can find out the identity of your kids and if they are related to him." She said as I paled in consideration hearing every thing.

"What....what are you saying then?" I asked as Flora looked at me and shook her head.

"I don't want to scare you. I just think that you should be careful. That spoilt car is going to be a source of reminder to him about the kids and we will be very lucky if he decides not to give two shits about it. Let's forget about that and get started on dinner. It's getting late."she said switching the topic to a more safer topic as I allowed myself to dwell on her words.

Making dinner was routine, I did everything, and made more for Flora to take home as thanks for helping me today.

"You shouldn't have. Thank you so much though." She said with a smile as I smiled back,

"Please I insist. You deserve it. Don't worry about coming tomorrow. I'll be on break so I'll look after the kids. You need a day to yourself after the day you have. You look quite shaken up." I said pressing my hand on her forehead to make sure that she had not gotten a cold.

"Alright then, but you can call me if something comes up, if nothing happens, I'll see you next tomorrow. And Clara, don't you dare forget this but you ar doing an excellent job with your twins okay. You got this!" She said as I smiled feeling a bit relieved.

It seemed like Flora always knew what to say at all times making me feel better about myself and not like a failure. I struggle all the time always questioning myself if I wasn't raising them right. I know Flora has her grievances with the twins sometimes but she never for once made me feel like I was a failure or something.

"I'll leave first. Take care." She said waving at me before taking off as I waved back before closing the door behind her sighing heavily.
